Katatonia Discusses Rise to Musical Success & Life on the Road!

Swedish Heavy Metal band Katatonia is celebrating their 20th anniversary of musical existence this year. Katatonia was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1991 when Jonas Renkse (formerly aka Lord Seth) and Anders Nyström (formerly aka Blakkheim) joined musical forces. The bands anniversary celebration is currently taking place in North America in an extensive tour with fellow countrymen Opeth.

Sonically speaking, after carefully analyzing the rise of the Swedish Death Metal scene in the early 90s, Katatonia made the conscious decision of adding melodic elements to the Skandinavian signature sound in order to create something fresh and unique. Ever since their inception the band has been hard at work perfecting their musical craft both on and off stage. In order to keep their creative flow going strong, once they get back home from their current trek across North America, their plan is get busy with the production of their eighth studio album.

Recently, Katatonia and Opeth performed two sold out shows at the Webster Hall in New York City and before Katatonia took center stage we had the chance to sit down to chat with guitarist/co-founder Anders "Blakkheim" Nyström, who was joined by his co-guitarist Per "Sodomizer" Eriksson. During the conversation, we chatted about the bands rise to musical success, about life on the road, and much more. So sit back, relax and enjoy!

NYC Rock Band PUi Performs Video Stunt on a Rooftop in Midtown Manhattan!

Yesterday afternoon, midtown Manhattan was taken by surprise when New York City band PUi performed a video stunt on top of a rooftop. The stunt was organized by the band in order to shoot a brand new music video for their single 'Army Of Slaves'. The concept of the video is to have the fans shoot the video, in order to capture the moment as organic as possible.

Ironically, the band performed next to an Apple Inc. billboard, a day after the passing of Steve Jobs. This was merely a coincidence, since the band had planned this video stunt for months. The members of the band were arrested after delivering the masses their unique blend of Metal, Rock, R&B, Punk, Middle Eastern motifs, and Electronica.

Here is a statement from the band:

"Yesterday we showed the world that Human Spirit is not dead. Got on top of a Billboard on top a building and blasted loud Metal all over society and got arrested for it. Thank you People Of The Moon, for being there and capturing everything. Email the footage to: puicontact@gmail.com ASAP so we can start editing. Special thanks to the NYPD for being incredibly professional and courteous. It was a pleasant surprise. One!"

Tonight, PUi will be performing an acoustic set at White Noise in New York City at 10:30pm for "THE WILD ONES" 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY!

The video release of the video for 'Army Of Slaves' will be delivered to the masses on Saturday, November 5th, at a very special PUi concert that will take place at New York City's legendary venue Irving Plaza. Here are all the details:

Trailer for Sick Of It All's "Nonstop"!

This year New York City Hardcore legends Sick Of It All are celebrating their 25th anniversary. After touring the world, the band made time to enter Antfarm Studio with Producer Tue Madsen and recorded "Nonstop", an album full of re-recorded classics. Set to be released on October 31 in Europe and on November 1 in the United States via Century Media Records, "Nonstop" is the follow up of "Based On A True Story" (2010).

This is what Sick Of It All had to say about this upcoming release.

"It was a fun recording session, and a relatively easy one because we're so used to playing so many of these songs live. They're like second nature. Most of these songs make their way into our live sets all the time, so they're current — they reach new ears and are constantly refreshed by their exposure to a brand new audience. It's not like they had to be dusted off.

"We changed tempos mostly and some of the arrangements, but we didn't want to do anything too drastic. We wanted to keep most of the songs true to the originals, but with a more powerful sound that we feel makes them all they can be."

Trailer for "Nonstop":

Steve Jobs Loses Battle to Cancer at 56 - Memoir by Alex Skonick (Testament)

Steve Jobs, founder of Apple Inc., lost his battle to pancreatic cancer yesterday in Palo Alto, California, USA, after struggling for many years with this horrible disease. Jobs will finally Rest In Peace, and there is no question that he will be remembered forever as one the most important visionaries in the history of the world. We want to extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fans all over the world.

Here is a memoir that guitar master Alex Skolnick (Testament) wrote in regards to the passing of Mr. Steve Jobs.

"With the passing of Steve Jobs, we've lost one of the great ones.

"Like many, I've spent thousands of dollars on Apple products and admit occasionally grumbling about the prices, the upgrades and the compatibility of Apple products. But stop for one moment and consider the amount of human productivity, the advances in business, entertainment and communications, the enjoyment of these processes and the resulting higher quality of life (for both creator and consumer alike) that has been a direct result of Steve Jobs' visions. When you put it in perspective, there is no comparison to the amount of personal dollars spent. So while there are going to be tributes from technological and cultural commentators far more qualified than myself, the least I can do is put in my proverbial two cents.

"In my own case, this human productivity has included capturing music on digital software designed for the Macintosh computer. Often the songs of which were fleshed out on a MacBook pro laptop and in many cases the initial ideas were captured via the iPhone Voice Memo. Eventually these songs would be heard by many listeners via iTunes on computers, iPods and more recently something that I didn't quite understand when it first came out: the iPad, as reflected in a blog post: 'Confessions Of A Reluctant iPad Owner.'

"There was one thing I hadn't realized yet when I wrote that post: when you listen to music on the iPad — the cover art takes over the whole screen (unless you choose the option of opening up another iPad window while listening). Whether Jobs himself thought of this, or someone else at Apple (no doubt enabled and inspired by Jobs), it a recapturing something so precious: the appreciation of album cover art, a joy which got lost as the primary medium for music switched from vinyl records to CD's and more recently, MP3s. Clearly Steve Jobs was a true fan and connoisseur of music and art as well as computer nerd.

"To me, that little touch with the album cover art, a minor detail compared to the iPad's other features, captures the essence of what made Steve Jobs so special. Part of his genius was his ability to take very complex technology and make it palatable, even enjoyable, to non-technically minded people. Another good reflection of this can be seen in the way he introduced the iPad Nano onstage in 2005: rather than describing the intricacies of microcircuits and MP3 technology, he simply had a video camera do a close up of the coin pocket on his blue jeans and, like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat, he introduced a tiny iPod, the likes of which had been previously unimaginable (as was the concept of the iPod itself about five years earlier). Although he had numerous unique qualities — leadership skills, a keen business sense and a vigilant work ethic not the least of them — it was Jobs' sense of presentation, whether himself onstage delivering a keynote address, or in the sleek appearance of Apple's products and retail stores, which set him apart from other technological innovators.

"I can think of very few people in this world that I've never even met, yet have had such a profound influence on my own life and so many others. He has helped defined the era in which we live; a shining light in the turbulent darkness. Indeed, as America has undergone so much embarrassment from leaders and citizens alike (from Dick Cheney to Casey Anthony, from the mortgage meltdown to chronic obesity), Steve Jobs has represented the potential of America and given us something we're to share with the rest of the world. Steve Jobs is one of the few people for whom his passing causes the world to seem a little bit emptier.

"As a remembrance, take a look at this Apple ad from 1997, in which Steve Jobs could unarguably be placed among these iconic figures: THINK DIFFERENT.

"And here is his compelling speech to the 2005 graduating class of Stanford University: Steve Job's Stanford Speech. This last line here is one I wish I'd heard when I was much, much younger: 'Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice.'

"Here's one more great quote from the great Steve Jobs. He will be sorely missed:

'Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work and the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on.'"

STEVE JOBS WILL BE REMEMBERED FOREVER! REST IN PEACE and THANK YOU FOR BEING A HUGE INFLUENCE ON HORNS UP ROCKS!!!

New York City natives PUi, known for independently selling out venues in New York City and putting on electrifying performances, are getting ready to be filmed for their brand new music video for the single ‘Army Of Slaves’ which is being re-recorded independent of a set release specifically for the video. A brand new video featuring vocalist/guitarist Prince Nazimcan Shuva has surfaced outlining details about the filming of the video, the idea behind the fan filming, and more. The video unveils details about the date and time of the stunt, which can now be revealed as October 6th at 12:30pm, somewhere in Midtown Manhattan, NYC.

More details about the location will be revealed to the world at 11am ET tomorrow morning on all of PUi’s sites.

The band is making it up to you, the fans, to direct their music video. There will be no cameramen hired by the band. All fans have to do is check back with the website periodically for details and show up with a camera when the information is released, ready to film. The best footage submitted to PUicontact@gmail.com will be PUi’s first ever music video.

'Unto the Locust' - Highest Debut in Machine Head's History on Billboard Top 200!

On Tuesday, September 27, 2011, Machine Head released their seventh studio album entitled "Unto The Locust" via Roadrunner Records. After the success of "The Blackening", Machine Head decided that they were going to close the door on that album, and create something fresh sounding. This is exactly what the band accomplished! Once again Machine has proven their elite status amongst today’s massive array of Heavy Metal artists.

More than doubling on the #54 Billboard Top 200 debut chart position of the band’s 2007 Grammy-nominated release, "The Blackening", Machine Head have topped themselves again with a remarkable #22 Billboard Top 200 chart debut for their new album, "Unto The Locust", with over 17,000 albums scanned.

The new Machine Head album debuts at #4 on the Hard Music chart and the Current Hard Music chart, as well as the top internet chart at #26. The album came in at #19 on the overall digital albums chart with nearly 6,000 albums sold digitally, 35% of the overall scan. Even more impressive, this is the third consecutive album to show at least a 20% increase in sales over the previous release; a virtually unprecedented feat for any band or artist, let alone a Metal band in 2011. To date the band has sold a staggering 2.4 million albums worldwide.

"Unto The Locust" is seeing amazing charting numbers overseas as well. The album charted at #5 on the German charts, #6 on the Austrian charts, #10 in Australia and Switzerland, #13 on the French charts, #18 on the Japanese charts, #19 on the New Zealand charts, #22 on the Belgian charts, #28 in Norway, and #82 on the United Kingdom charts (the album release in the United Kingdom was via the Metal Hammer fan pack, which does not counted towards UK chart numbers. The #82 chart number solely represents digital sales).

We recently visited the Roadrunner Records headquarters in New York City and had the chance to interview Machine Head's front-man Robb Flynn about 'Unto The Locust'. We also talked to Flynn about the bands recent Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival experience. Check it out!

Corey Taylor Releases "Seven Deadly Sins" Audiobook & Announces "An Evening With Corey Taylor" Solo Performances!

"I always had a plan that if I didn't get to read it, I had three people that I wanted to read it: Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken or Betty White. Those are my three that, I'm just like, I would love to have that happen. But I'm not gonna get out of it; I'm gonna have to read it myself. Which is fine, seeing as it's my kind of flow.

"People who know me, they call me and it's like, 'Dude, I can't get your voice out of my head when I'm reading this book. It's like I'm talking to you!'. And that, that's the best compliment I could ever get, you know, because that's really what it's supposed to be, is a conversation. It's supposed to be me trying to make a point and trying to make an argument, and apparently I've done pretty well."

GWAR-B-Q TV Special on G4's "Attack Of The Show"!

On Saturday, September 17th, a legion of headbangers took over Hadad's Water Park in Richmond, Virginia, for the 2011 GWAR B-Q: one of the wildest parties of the summer. The event featured two full stages of Rock, and it was headlined by the mighty GWAR. This was no ordinary GWAR set (if such a thing could exist...) as original GWAR bass player Mike Bishop (the first Beefcake the Mighty) joined the band for a very special set of songs from the "Scumdogs" era, this special set was followed by the latest incarnation of the universes most dangerous band, who took center stage and GWARified the crowd!

If you weren't there you missed a hell of a time, but luckily enough for you Bohabs, G4's "Attack of the Show" was there to document it all. Host Candace Bailey was there to check out all the bands, spend some quality time with her lords and masters GWAR and even got fed to The World Maggot.

The segment featuring the GWAR-B-Q airs tonight on G4TV at 7:00 PM Eastern (4:00 PM Pacific). The episode will be repeated throughout the week and starting on Wednesday October 5th the segment will be available for viewing of at the"Attack of the Show" website.

"Candace Bailey had on the tightest pair of jeans I had ever seen. It looked like they had dipped her halfway into a bucket of blue ink, and it outlined her camel-toe perfectly." - Oderus Urungus

Behemoth - Music Video Premiere for 'Lucifer'!

Poland's Heavy Metal meisters Behemoth have teamed up again with Grupa 13 to produce a music video for their song 'Lucifer'; which is a track taken from their 2009 release titled "Evangelion". The song clocks in at over eight minutes long and is one of the most atmospheric and foreboding songs in Behemoth's vast catalogue.

The video was shot in Wroclaw, Poland and stars the song's guest vocalist, Maciej Malenczuk.

Here is a behind the scenes video of the making of 'Lucifer'.

Back in print and newly repackaged, "Demonica" chronicles the earliest recordings of Polish blackened Death Metal legends Behemoth! "Demonica" will include two booklets; a 28 page booklet and a 16 page booklet with rare photos and lyrics that were not included with the original release. Painstakingly compiled by the band, and in particular, front-man and founding member Nergal, who had this to say about compiling lyrics:

"Finding and collecting all the lyrics was a difficult task, demanding patience and time. With an aim of preserving the so-called historical authenticity, I have resolved to forward the lyrics in their original form, even though some of the language mistakes in them may obscure the overall meaning of the work… The fact that none of them has ever been published before, speaks of their exceptional collectors or even historical value… All the lyrics, despite their imperfections and just terrible English, depict me from the time of their creation. I still believe that it was a very straightforward and honest material, which had its mighty influence on who I am today."

"Demonica" will be available in North America November 22 in North America, via Metal Blade Records.

Disc 1:

1. Of My Worship
2. Summoning of the Ancient Gods
3. The Arrival (Instrumental)
4. Dark Triumph
5. Monumentum (Instrumental)
6. Rise of the Blackstorm of Evil
7. Aggressor
8. Goat With a Thousand Young (Instrumental)
9. Bless Thee for Granting Me Pain
10. Cursed Angel of Doom
11. Transylvanian Forest

Disc 2:

1. From Hornedlands to Lindisfarne
2. Thy Winter Kingdom
3. Summoning (Of the Ancient Ones)
4. The Dance of the Pagan Flames
5. Blackvisions of the Almighty
6. Fields of Haar-Meggido
7. Deathcrush (Mayhem cover)
8. Moonspell Rites
9. Blackvisions of the Almighty
10. Pure Evil & Hate
11. The Oak Between the Snows (Instrumental)
12. Spellcraft & Heathendom

Cradle Of Filth Premieres Clip from Upcoming "Evermore Darkly..." DVD!

As previously announced, the UK’s premier extreme Metal antagonist, Cradle Of Filth, will be releasing a CD/DVD mini-album titled “Evermore Darkly…" on October 18th via Nuclear Blast Records. This mini-album is the follow-on to last year’s triumphant, "Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa". This is what vocalist Dani Filth had to say about
this new release.

“It is a much-loved musical stop-gap between albums, a pleasure treasure trove of wild and wicked wonders primed especially for fans. Something for them to sink their teeth into this autumn as the Cradle invasion fleet is primed for future contagion.”

In addition to the new clip (which you can watch below), the Cradle Of Filth mini-site contains an 'Evermore Darkly…' video trailer, the music video for 'Lilith Immaculate', album info, downloads and more.

"Evermore Darkly…" will feature the brand new musical beast, “Thank Your Lucky Stars,” a special remix of “Forgive Me Father,” courtesy of Rob C. from Anthrax, an extended rendition of “Lilith Immaculate,” as well as tempered demo versions of three Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa songs. The CD closes with a special taster from Cradle Of Filth’s impending orchestral project, in the form of a haunting, classic reworking of fan-favorite, “Summer Dying Fast.”

"Evermore Darkly…" DVD contains footage from Summer 2011, when Cradle Of Filth embarked on a rapid spat of tours, accompanied by two eager filmmakers. The resulting documentary, 'You Can't Polish A Turd… But You Can Roll It In Glitter,' combined with performance and interview footage, culminates in a forty five minute film of the not so glamorous reality of life in a touring band at work and play, as they trawl their way across Europe over eight performances. The DVD includes an interview with ghoul-guide, Dani Filth, interspersed and peppered with live footage and backstage shenanigans, culminating in the entire hour long set from this year's highly anticipated Graspop festival appearance.

Here is a clip from the forthcoming DVD "Evermore Darkly...":

Cradle of Filth - "Evermore Darkly..." (clip from the documentary) from Peaceville Records on Vimeo.

The track list for "Evermore Darkly..." is:

4. Lilith Immaculate (Extended Length)
5. The Persecution Song - Elder Version
6. Forgive Me Father (I'm In A Trance)
7. The Spawn Of Love And War - Elder Version
8. Summer Dying Fast ('Midnight in The Labyrinth' breadcrumb trail)

Venus Diversa DVD…:

1. Lilith Immaculate Promo Video
2. ‘You Can't Polish A Turd…But You Can Roll It In Glitter’ Rockumentary

"Now the good news: the new Album is ready! All the music and lyrics are waiting to be recorded. Joe Duplantier (vocalist/guitarist) is already in New York to check out the studio and make sure everything is sorted so we can begin to record next month.

"A new website is being built and we are working on ways to improve the communication between the band and our fans."

"I've been about spirituality since the first album. It's hard to define what spirituality is, but it's more like getting closer to [oneself]. It's where each thing we do is sacred; not like going to a church or when you are with a dying person, but waking up in the morning… I've tried to take this dimension when I've written the music, like sometimes I don't even know what I'm going to sing and the words come out fluently. It's not a concept album like in the past, it's more about being spontaneous with feeling, and it's more true and honest."
