OVERKILL Releases Statement Regarding The Health Status Of Bobby "Blitz' Ellsworth

As previously reported, "The Dark Roots Of Thrash Tour" was dented last night in Huntington, New York. Unfortunately, OVERKILL were forced to cancel their appearance last night at The Paramount Theater in Huntington, Long Island, NY because their singer Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth was rushed to the hospital after falling ill with walking pneumonia. The bands has just released the following update:

"We are terribly sorry that we had to cancel our performance last night, but let's put the rumors to rest, before speculation runs rampant.

"Blitz was diagnosed with what is called "walking pneumonia", and was medically advised to not perform due to it potentially getting worse if he did. When the health risk is no longer an issue, he'll be ready to kick ass once again."

So it is safe to assume that OVERKILL will not be performing on "The Dark Roots Of Thrash Tour" until further notice.

OVERKILL bassist DD Vernie commented: "We live just on the other side of the bridge, we will make up the show".

The epic tour, which features TESTAMENT, OVERKILL, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, and 4ARM, marks the first time that TESTAMENT and OVERKILL share the stage in over 25 years.

We wish Bobby a speedy recovery! Please keep flexing your muscles like on the picture above for many years to come!

SLAYER's Dave Lombardo Celebrates His 47th Birthday!

Today (February 16), SLAYER's badass drummer Dave Lombardo is celebrating his 47th birthday. Lombardo was born in La Havana, Cuba on February 16, 1965. When he was two years old, his family moved to South Gate, California. During the third grade at the age of eight, Lombardo brought a set of bongo drums with a Santana record to school for show and tell and played the bongos along with the record. This inspired his musical interest in drums, prompting him to join the school band where he played the marching drum, although he soon viewed the marching drum as "not for him." Lombardo's father saw his persistent interest in music at age ten and bought him a five-piece Maxwin drum set for $350. As Lombardo now had a drumkit, he purchased his first record, Alive! by Kiss to play along to. He taught himself the song "100,000 Years" by listening to the record repeatedly. Able to perform the drum solo on the song, word of Lombardo's ability spread.

At the age of 16, Dave remembered his friends from a Huntington Park, California based band called, Sinister, telling him about a guitar player that lived a few blocks away. One afternoon, after making a delivery for the restaurant he worked for, Dave drove by the guitarist's house and saw Kerry King. Dave introduced himself, mentioned he played drums and that he heard of him being a guitar player. Lombardo asked King if he would like to jam with him. King agreed and then offered to show Lombardo his guitar collection later that night. The two realized they shared some of the same musical interests and they then rehearsed in Lombardo's garage several times. King then introduced Jeff Hanneman. The three rehearsed a few more times and decided they needed a singer and bass player. Kerry had played with Tom Araya in a band called Quits and decided to introduce Lombardo and Hanneman to Araya. This is when SLAYER's history began, and after 30+ years they are still reigning.

We want to wish Dave a HEAVY BEERS DAY!

What is very surprising to us is that we interviewed Bobby 24 hours before the tour arrived in Long Island, and he seemed to be completely healthy. As a matter of fact, he seemed to be in very high spirits and was on fire while on stage at the Best Buy Theater in New York City. Can someone fall ill with pneumonia in less than 24 hours? We think not.

Whatever the situation is, we will keep you posted as more information becomes available. We wish Bobby a speedy recovery, regardless!

Mårten Hagström: MESSHUGAH's Experience Of Performing Without Their Vocalist Jens Kidman!

As previously reported, MESHUGGAH have been performing without their vocalist Jens Kidman (HERE is what he had to say about this). Jens caught that nasty flu that has been floating around and so far has been unavailable for the bands concerts in Atlanta GA, Charlotte NC and
Philadelphia PA.

Whether he'll join his bandmates onstage tonight at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City remains to be seen, but rhythm guitarist Mårten Hagström spoke to The Village Voice about the experience of playing sans vocalist.

How does not having a vocalist change the performance experience for you?

The way it sounds is not that different...but it's more the way you feel walking up onstage, not seeing the entire band, because we've never done this before. You're used to being that five-piece unit, walking up and doing this together...but there's no use complaining about it. The only thing we can do is try to make the most out of it. We travelled over here now. A lot of places we play on this tour we haven't really played for a long time, so canceling is not really an option.

Here is some footage of MESHUGGAH performing without Jens Kidman!

Randy Blythe Visits The Prison Were He Would Pay His Sentence If Convicted For Manslaughter

As we all know, David Randall Blythe from LAMB OF GOD is fighting the fight of his life.
Blythe was imprisoned for five weeks in the Czech Republic after being detained on June 27, 2012 when the Grammy-nominated, Richmond, Virginia-based band arrived there for a show. The singer was freed without charge in August but had to post $400,000 bail, then left the country.

According to the prosecution, Blythe shoved Daniel Nosek, a 19 years old fan, off stage, thus inflicting fatal wounds on him. After being released on bail, which was contended by the State Attorney, Blythe refused responsibility for Nosek's death and pledged to return to attend the trial.

While the trial began on Monday, February 4, the trial had
to be postponed until March 4, due to the fact that one witness fell ill and two criminal psychologists who were expected to testify were unable to attend during that week.

Before returning back to the United States of Metal, Randy visited the prison were he would pay for his sentence if convicted for manslaughter. After visiting the prison, this is what he posted via Instagram account:

"
Pankrác is a grim place, but I kept my spirits up in there. If I felt sorry for myself, I quickly reminded myself that there are many in the world who would be grateful to have the food I had, to escape a war-torn homeland in exchange for three hits and a cot, even in a prison for a bit. Suddenly being thrown into a foreign prison wasn't fun, but it wasn't the worst thing that could happen to a man. I had food, clothes, and shelter. Remain grateful for what you DO have, not resentful over what you DON'T.

"We finished walking and got on a subway back to the center of Prague. I was glad I came to look at the prison. I would love to have a camera in there- it's amazing inside, in a really messed up way. I do not know what the future holds for me- maybe I will return to behind these walls- but I do know that I have to do the right thing as my conscious dictates. For me that is going back to finish the trial, as I said I would. The family of the young man who is dead is in court everyday, along with mine. They have shown remarkable kindness by not attacking me in the press or anywhere else. It must be very difficult for them to look at my face, regardless of my guilt or innocence. They have behaved honorably, and so shall I. I will do my best to give them the answers they deserve. I ask people not to judge the family of this young man for wanting these answers- their family has lost a son- who would not want answers? I'm not so sure I would have displayed the class and reserve they have if the tables were turned. Remember, no story has just one side. Try to look at everything from different angles, to not make snap judgements. Put yourself in another's shoes for a second. Otherwise we all just remain in a prison of our own making. Thanks for all your support. I will put up some cheerier pictures soon, I promise."

Is Your Music On iTunes? Find Out The Value Behind Having Your Music On Digital Music Platforms!

MACHINE HEAD's Robb Flynn recently stated how he doesn't purchase "physical music" anymore thanks to digital streaming. He also stated that he probably wont ever purchase "physical music" again. With him being a musician and a key player in Heavy Music, his comments caused a massive stir up from the purists out there who still believe that the music industry can return to what it used to be.  Here is Flynn's reaction to all the stir up, followed by some key recent data regarding iTunes (the #1 provider of non "physical music").

"Look, I'm in a band, I've lived on a bus/van/plane for well over 25 years of my life now. I live out of a suitcase, that resides on a tour bus, with 10 people (imagine a studio apartment on wheels, with 9 roommates) for 10 months out of a year at times. My life needs to be efficient, it needs to be compact, it needs to be portable. Sure, I used to carry a big-ass CD wallet everywhere with beer-soaked, scratched up CD's and it was a pain, so yeah, the Spotify / iTunes world fits me perfect.

"But, I also realize this isn't most people's life.

"Most people don't need the portability I do. Lot's of people said they love iTunes and streaming. Lot's of people said they would like a CD, and of course, for the time being we will continue to sell CD's. That's never been a question, as long as there are stores to stock CD's, we will sell CD's. And with Bandcamp.com and HDfiles.com offering CD quality and higher files, that's a cool thing the future is bringing to files. But also, as I'm sure as most of you know, stores to purchase CD's are getting harder and harder to find. HMV (the last UK based CD chain) just closed shop, FNAC and Virgin France just closed. Here in the US Best Buy has cut CD rack space down from 24 racks to 4 racks!

"I have a ritual I've done for every release since Burn My Eyes in 1994, where first day I go in and buy our album. Call it good luck or whatever, I love my rituals. But believe you me, I was stunned, STUNNED, when I went into Ameoba Records in Hollywood (I was in LA on the Jason Ellis show day of release) and saw our regular album NOT on sale, but full price for $16.99. I spent $40 bucks buying the 2 editions. It was wrong, it's supposed to be on sale the first week / first month. You reward the die-hards, reward the Head Cases for going out there and supporting you first day/week/month. It's a thank you. We were pissed and fans weren't stoked. Shit like this has to change, it has to, and we as a band (with your help) have to figure out a way around it."

The impact of iTunes:

Recently, Apple® announced that music fans have purchased and downloaded more than 25 billion songs from the iTunes Store® (www.itunes.com), the world’s most popular online music, TV and movie store. The 25 billionth song, “Monkey Drums” (Goksel Vancin Remix) by Chase Buch, was purchased by Phillip Lüpke from Germany. As the downloader of the 25 billionth song, Phillip will received a €10,000 iTunes® Gift Card.
“We are grateful to our users whose passion for music over the past 10 years has made iTunes the number one music retailer in the world,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “Averaging over 15,000 songs downloaded per minute, the iTunes Store connects music fans with their favorite artists, including global sensations like Adele and Coldplay and new artists like The Lumineers, on a scale we never imagined possible.”

“In a lot of ways, iTunes has leveled the playing field for musicians. Whether you’re unsigned, indie, major, whatever—it’s the place most people go to buy digital music,” said Wesley Schultz, guitarist and lead vocalist of The Lumineers. “iTunes doesn’t exclude any musicians simply because they’re not yet established or popular.”

The iTunes Store is the world’s most popular music store with a catalog of over 26 million songs and over 25 billion songs downloaded, and is available in 119 countries. The iTunes Store is the best way for iPhone®, iPad®, iPod®, Mac® and PC users to legally discover, purchase and download music online. All music on the iTunes Store comes in iTunes Plus®, Apple’s DRM-free format with high-quality 256 kbps AAC encoding for audio virtually indistinguishable from the original recordings. iTunes in the Cloud lets you download your previously purchased iTunes music to your devices at no additional cost, and new music purchases can be downloaded automatically to your iOS devices.

In our humble opinion, "physical music" still has a certain value to the music industry as a whole. However, with music stores closing their doors thanks to the digital era we are all part of, it is essential for musicians from all walks of life to upload their music to iTunes and other digital media sources. If you are reading this and you are a musician, make sure your music is on iTunes before uploading the content unto any other site. iTunes is the NEW Tower Records, the NEW Virgin Records, and will continue to be for many years to come.

Philip Anselmo & Corey Mitchell Announce First Ever Housecore Horror Film & Metal Festival in Austin!

In what can only be described as a match made in hell, the worlds of Heavy Metal and horror collide this fall as the first-ever Housecore Horror Film Festival (HHFF) erupts in Austin, Texas. World famous Heavy Metal pioneer Philip H. Anselmo (Pantera, Down, Superjoint Ritual, et al.) and internationally renowned, best-selling true crime author Corey Mitchell (Hollywood Death Scenes, Dead and Buried, et al.) have teamed up to create the ultimate underground, three-day horror and Heavy Metal fan event that will combine live concerts from some of the biggest bands in Metal and Hard Rock with more than 70 screenings of horror, true crime, and Heavy Metal films, music videos, and more—and special guest appearances from three of the world’s most revered underground directors of horror.

The Housecore Horror Film Festival will take over the entire Emo’s complex in the newly revitalized area of East Austin for three days of shock and roll. HHFF will feature seven screens, which will display more than 70 horror, true crime, and heavy metal film screenings, including feature-length films, short films, documentaries, classic horror films, world premieres, music videos, vintage and faux movie trailers, and more. As darkness descends each night, a dozen Heavy Metal and Hard Rock acts, handpicked by Anselmo himself, will hit the stage.

The nefarious brainchild of Anselmo and Mitchell, the Housecore Horror Film Festival spawned from a mutual love for all things horror that was discovered while the two were collaborating on Anselmo’s upcoming autobiography (Simon & Schuster, 2014). Wanting to bring their passion for —and knowledge of—extreme music and horror films to legions of fans, HHFF was born, with the goal of showcasing the best in a wide range of horror films—from the obscure to the extreme, from quality mainstream to the most unrepentant gore—and the heavy music that goes hand-in-hand with it.

Two confirmed special guest film directors include the notoriously controversial Jörg Buttgereit (Nekromantik, Nekromantik 2, Schramm) and revered do-it-yourself guerilla filmmaker Jim VanBebber (The Manson Family, Deadbeat at Dawn). Additional guest film directors will be announced as the festival nears.

Several top tier Metal and Hard Rock bands have signed on to perform at the inaugural event, and HHFF today announces the first round of confirmed artists: Anselmo’s own Southern metal supergroup, Down, which also features former Corrosion of Conformity guitarist and lead singer, Pepper Keenan, Crowbar guitarist and lead singer, Kirk Windstein, Eyehategod and Superjoint Ritual guitarist Jimmy Bower on drums, and Crowbar bassist, Patrick Bruders; New Orleans masters of metallic doom, Crowbar; and the Texas premiere of Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals, Anselmo’s greatly anticipated extreme Metal solo project.

Horror film director and rock star Rob Zombie said of Philip Anselmo and the Housecore Horror Film Festival: “Philip’s done lots of great things for heavy metal. I believe the Housecore Horror Film Festival will be great for horror!”

MEGADETH Announce NEW Album Title; Dave Mustaine Launches His Own Label!

Thrash Metallers MEGADETH are currently locked up at Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California, recording the follow up to 2011's 'THIRT3EN' (available now via Roadrunner Records). The bands 14th studio album is being produced by Johnny K. The band has released the following statement regarding the name of their NEW album, the release month, and their NEW label home:

For a Heavy Metal band that's been around for nearly three decades, selling more than 38 million albums worldwide, earning numerous accolades including 11 Grammy® nominations, scoring five consecutive platinum albums-including 1992's two-million-selling 'Countdown to Extinction' - Megadeth's founder, leader and primal guitar-slinger and lyricist Dave Mustaine feels the best is yet to come, especially after signing an exclusive worldwide deal with Universal Music Enterprises.

NEW L
ABEL HOME:

Dave Mustaine brings legendary Thrash-Metal pioneers to his own label called Tradecraft who has united
with Universal for the first time with his multi-platinum Capitol/EMI catalog.

NEW ALBUM TITLE & RELEASE DATE:

Currently working in their studio in San Diego on their 14th studio album titled 'Super Collider', Mustaine, along with bassist Dave Ellefson, drummer Shawn Drover and guitarist Chris Broderick, are looking forward to its release in June 2013

Megadeth's 'Super Collider' is the first release through Mustaine's new label, Tradecraft, through UMe.

"It was a real thrill for us to learn there was an opportunity to join Universal," said Mustaine during a break in the sessions. "It seems like every time you see a great band or music video, it comes from the Universal label. Being with Universal is by far the most exciting and prestigious home for Megadeth ever! We are electrified with what the future holds and the possibilities such a powerhouse like Uni will bring for us all. We have worked with some great people over the years, and it is amazing to see so many of them on the Universal team for our new record, 'Super Collider'. If Megadeth being here isn't satiating enough, having Tradecraft as my own label is going to be really amazing for metal bands around the world."

With a NEW found energy with the band, Mustaine is raring to go, preparing for his latest tour, marking the 20th anniversary of their best-selling 'Countdown to Extinction' album. Mustaine added, "Shawn, Chris and David have all been feverishly contributing some great music and I believe we are doing our best work ever together in the studio right now!"

"Megadeth is not just one of the most successful Metal bands, but one of the most influential Rock bands of the past 30 years," said UMe President/CEO Bruce Resnikoff in making the announcement. "They continue to be a huge draw on the road with their longtime fans as well as continually adding new fans. I look forward to working together with them."

Mustaine formed Megadeth in Los Angeles in 1983, and with a string of five consecutive platinum and multi-platinum albums Megadeth became one of the biggest bands of the mid-'80s and '90s, boasting such arena anthems as "Symphony of Destruction," "Peace Sells, But Who's Buying," "Holy Wars," and "Sweating Bullets," along with the top singles in 1997/98 off Cryptic Writings, "Trust," (No. 1 track) "Almost Honest," "Use The Man" and "A Secret Place."

With the recent acquisition of EMI, UMe now brings together Megadeth's classic, 14-year, seven-album Capitol catalog, which includes one multi-platinum release ('92's Countdown to Extinction), four platinum records ('86's Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?; '88's So Far, So Good... So What?; '90's Rust in Peace; '94's Youthanasia), and one gold ('97's Cryptic Writings). In all, the band has scored five Top 10 albums (including 2007's United Abominations and 2009's Endgame) and two Top 5 releases, with 2011’s TH1RT3EN debuting at No.11 on the Billboard Top 200 and No.1 on the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart.

Jens Kidman (Meshuggah) Releases Statement Regarding His Current Unavailability!

As previously reported, last night the band were forced to perform without their vocalist Jens Kidman at Center Stage in Atlanta, Georgia.

Unfortunately, Jens is still under the weather and wont be able to perform tonight at The Fillmore in Charlotte, North Carolina. He has released the following statement regarding his unavailability due to the flu:
"I just need to say a few words here guys. I'm truly unable to perform tonight. Again.

"Me not being able to do what I'm supposed to do is really really frustrating and I feel that I'm letting you all down. Not just you, the fans, but the band as well.

"But we try to make the absolute best we can out of this situation.

"So its either cancel OR play for you guys anyway. We opt for playing. Its what we're here to do. So that's what we'll do. With your help it'll be awesome.

"I will see the doctor again tomorrow and will hopefully get a green light to perform in Philly. Fingers crossed.

"So a big humble thanks goes out to all of you for your support and understanding!!

"Let the mayhem commence Charlotte!!!"

GWAR Announces Leg II Of The "Fate or Chaos" Tour; WARBEAST To Support!

After spending months deep inside their arctic fortress working on what will be their next album, your Lords and Masters GWAR have announced their return to the road in North America. The second leg of the "Fate or Chaos" tour is scheduled to kick off on April 10th in Tucson, AZ and will conclude on April 25th in Jacksonville, Florida. Support on the tour will come from Warbeast and Wilson. Tickets go on sale this Friday February 15th.

Briefly putting down the crack pipe, lead throat thing Oderus Urungus spoke about going back on tour:

"As you humans amuse yourself with your mundane holidays, it has been a time of intense activity for GWAR, as we record our 13th studio album-- the first one with our new Scumdog brother, Pustulus Maximus!"

The Filth-Lord continued-- "We begin this years festivities with the second and final leg of our Fate or Chaos tour, so everybody who missed the first leg can see Cyber-Jesus get his fucking ass handed to him. Then it's back in the studio to work on all the hulking war machines we shall need on our devastating, brand-spanking new tour, after the album drops at the end of the summer! Can you believe I said drop? How fucking stupid!"

Oderus Urungus and Balsac the Jaws of Death, recently took New York by storm when they were in town filming a segment for the SyFy TV Show "Oddities".

The guys were once again recruited by MTV's Next Movie to give their critique of another Steven Spielberg directed, Oscar nominated film. The last time they reviewed a movie for Next Movie they reviewed "War Horse" it was only fitting that "Lincoln" be next. Check out Oderus and Balsac's review HERE.

Oderus and Balsac recently stole the show as guests on the "Artie Lange Show". Check out highlights of their appearance HERE.

The summer will also herald the fourth annual GWAR-B-Q, and this year is shaping-up to have the most colossal, bone-crushing line-up yet! But that's not all from your toxic mutant under-lords. Rumors of boxed sets, GWAR-B-Q sauce, GWAR beer, and long-awaited "comedy" albums abound. Further details about all of these projects would have to wait until "we get our shit together", said Oderus.

MESHUGGAH Flashed Their Cojones Last Night By Performing Without Their Singer Jens Kidman - Video Available!

This past Monday, February 11, Sweden's MESHUGGAH ignited the second leg of the "Ophidian Trek" at the Beacham Theatre in Orlando, Florida.

As previously reported, last night the band were forced to perform without their vocalist Jens Kidman at Center Stage in Atlanta, Georgia. "Jens is down with the flu. And this flu means business. He has been forbidden to even speak. He's mute for now. WE WILL PLAY ANYWAY", commented the band before the show. "So memorize the lyrics and bring your very best growl Atlanta. You will all be Jens tonight!! Lets make this happen! We hope he's back tomorrow, or it'll be vocal-duties Charlotte!"

After the show, they commented: "Atlanta!! You have our deepest gratitude. You helped us turn a really shitty situation into an unbelievable night for us. YOU are Meshuggah. Much love!!" There is no word yet whither or not Jens will be back with the band tonight in Charlotte.

We got to hand it to MESHUGGAH for having the cojones of stepping out of their comfort zone and performing without their singer for the first time ever. And from what we heard, the crowd were very pleased on having the unique opportunity of seeing an instrumental set by one of the most ferocious bands in Heavy Music history. Here is some video footage of the bands performance last night:
