DICK CLARK, A Man Who Revolutionized The Music Industry, Dies At 82!
Today is a sad day in the entertainment world, media personality and businessman Dick Clark (A.K.A. The World's Oldest Teenager) died earlier today from a massive heart attack following a medical procedure. Our condolences go out to Clark's family, friends, and fans.
We all obviously know Dick Clark as the presenter and ambassador of ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ bash and we all know that New Year's won't be the same without watching and hearing Clark ringing in the NEW year with the entire American community.
However, for us in the music world Dick Clarke will always be remembered for being a Rock N' Roll pioneer. Clarke is to blame for bringing Rock music to the masses. Under Clarke's wing, the Philadelphia-based TV show ‘American Bandstand’ went national in 1957. The show immediately became a vehicle for Rock band to be exposed to a mass audience. Over the years, his guests ranged from early rockers like Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry in the 1950s to Def Leppard, Bon Jovi and even Christian band Stryper, in the ’80s.
There is no question that the TV show is a vital part of the history of Rock music as it showed parents what their kids were interested in and lifted some of the stigma that was originally associated with the genre. Thank you Mr. Clarke, and may your soul ROCK IN PEACE!
