DISTURBED's David Draiman Bashes "Irresponsible" Parents Who Take Kids To Late-Night Movie Showings!

On Friday morning, Denver Police confirmed that a masked gunman (James Holmes) killed 12 people at a midnight showing of the NEW Batman movie: "Dark Knight Rises". This very sad event took place at a mall in Aurora, Colorado (a suburb of Denver). The gunman turned joy into tragedy when he hurled a gas canister into the auditorium and opened fire on moviegoers.

According to hospital officials, about fifty others (including children) were wounded in the attack on the showing of  the movie, some of whom were treated for the effects of tear gas, hospital officials said.

This is obviously extremely tragic news but one of the issues that surfaced after this sad news made International headlines, is the irresponsibility of parents who bring small children to a midnight viewing. One of the victims was Veronica Moser-Sullivan, a 6-year old girl.

David Draiman, vocalist and frontman of DISTURBED, never bites his tongue when it comes to controversial issues. Here is what Draiman expressed via Twitter, following a CNN report which posed the question if infants were too young to be at late-night movie showings. Draiman first wrote "Yes, they are. All you parents out there that think it's OK to take your infants out on the town with you, to a movie theater or otherwise, do the world a favor. Give your children up for adoption to parents who know what it is to be a responsible parent, and sacrifice on behalf of their children. Get a damn babysitter.”

He added, "Maybe we should take infants to nightclubs and restaurants in the late hours of the night as well? Honestly, fuck off. This is why only certain people should be allowed the gift of a child. Too many simply aren't ready for the responsibility.”

  1. David is so right if you can't find a babysitter then tuff you can't go out.your kids come first and if you can't deal with that then you shouldn't be raising any kids if having kids invade your good times, then why not give them to someone who wish they could have kids, that dream of having kids.people need to grow the help up !

  2. I totally understand this and believe it to be true. I'll be honest. I was, at one time, one of these people. I dragged a 1 year old to 24-hour restaurants at 2 AM. I don't know how I thought it was right back then -- then again, I was a teenage father. As a true adult now who has custody of that same child full time, I hated seeing footage of a couple bringing a baby to that movie. I have an infant whom I would never even imagine doing that to. Live and learn.

  3. I don't see why what he is saying on the subject is so controversial. Its a fact. I have two children. I stopped going out all together for the first 2 years of their lives for both of them and got a sitter otherwise. I don't actually see why its okay to bring a child under a certain age to see an R rated film, even with parent presence, at any time of the day but thats totally beside the point. Too many people who don't actually want children are having children. Its not just limited to taking small children out late night. There are millions of children being medicated by their parents so that they don't have to deal with them. "Why is Johnny on ritalin?" "Because he exhibits behaviors that are annoying to me as an adult". I seriously wish these people who don't want their lives to change once they've had a child would STOP screwing already, or at least get a sterilization surgery. You like your life the way it is? Keep it in your pants. You think you're still young and entitled to fun? Get the ol' snip snip. If its that important to you later in life and you can afford the reversal, THEN you can have a kid. If you can't afford the reversal, you can't afford to have a child. Simple as.

  4. It's just common sense, but some parents don't have have it. My kids are 9 & 10 and wouldn't have them out that late. I would feel bad if the movie ended at 10. That being said, it's always the people who don't have kids that seem to know everything about raising them. Draiman is the master of the obvious on this one (it's like speaking out against the shooter, "I don't think it's right he shot all those people", oh really? what an original & noble thing to say). I honestly don't care what he says about anything. Until he has kids of his own he should stick to screaming in the mic and leave parenting to the parents.
