STONE TEMPLE PILOTS Wave Good Bye To Scott Weiland!
So how relevant is STONE TEMPLE PILOTS in today's music world? Good question ah? After trying to return to the musical spectrum various times, they were never able to pick were they left off. Many point the finger at Scott Weiland's erratic behavior throuhgout the years due to his drug addiction. The band hit rock bottom at their last show in the Fall of 2002 when vocalist Scott Weiland and guitarist Dean De Leo had an altercation. The band would never be the same. STP last reformed in 2008 after a five year hiatus and toured heavily through last year.
They lost a lot of respect from their fans, when the band's claim of putting together a fall tour in order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of 'Core' was nothing but a false promise. Then at a show in Abbotsford, British Columbia, STP took the stage nearly two hours after their scheduled time, and cut their set 30 minutes short, angering many fans. The following day, the band released a brief statement announcing that that night's show in Lethbridge, Alberta was cancelled due to Scott Weiland being ordered to go on "48 hours complete vocal rest due to strained vocal cords."
By apparent coincidence, Rolling Stone spoke with Scott Weiland late yesterday (February 26) and he denied all rumors that he had been fired from the band. "STP has not broken up," he said. "I haven't quit. I haven't been fired." The rumors began a couple of months ago when Slash said in an interview that STP had fired Weiland.
"Slash doesn't know anything about STP," Weiland countered yesterday. "We're talking right now about when we want to tour next."
Well, apparently SLASH was right. The band just posted the following statement:
"Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland - no further information is available at this time."
It's unclear if they plan on carrying on with a new vocalist. Stay tuned for more news.
UPDATE: Scott Weiland responds to this piece of news!
