LINKIN PARK: 1 Fan Dead, Dozens Injured At A Concert In South Africa!

This just in! Tonight (November 7), tragedy struck in Cape Town, South Africa, during a stadium concert featuring LINKIN PARK. Reportedly, one female fan died and about 20 others were injured when an advertising structure collapsed prior to the concert due to high winds.

So what caused this horrible accident? Apparently, the wind gusts caused a temporary scaffolding structure to collapse onto fans who were heading towards the concert venue. What is very appalling to to us is that the show went on as scheduled. Linkin Park learned of the tragedy shortly after the concert ended.

The band was performing in South Africa as part of their International Linkin Park Underground Summit in which they interact with fans. Here is the statement posted by the band shortly after they got off the stage on their Facebook page.

"Following our performance tonight at Cape Town Stadium, we were advised that several people were injured as a result of the collapse of an advertising tower erected by Lucozade in the parking area outside the venue.

"We wish to express our deep sadness and concern for those injured and our heartfelt condolences to the family of the fan who died as a result of her injuries.

"Though we have had no relationship with the sponsor or the entity responsible for erecting the structure, we take the safety of our fans very seriously and our thoughts are with all of those who were affected by this tragedy.

Prior to the news of the concertgoer’s death, Cape Town authorities released this statement:

"Twenty concert attendees were injured at the Cape Town Stadium this evening when a temporary scaffolding structure in the stadium precinct collapsed due to high winds. The injured were treated on scene and have been taken to nearby hospitals for further medical attention.”

Here is some footage of the incident:

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the fans families and friends!

LIMP BIZKIT Call It A Day? Fred Durst: "We were a moment in time and it's over."

From 1997 until 2000, LIMP BIZKIT was one of the biggest Heavy Music bands in the world. Their blend of Heavy Metal and Hip Hop, won the band tons of fans that were excited about hearing something completely different. The bands short lived triumphant career came to a stop when in Woodstock 99, the bands front man Fred Durst caused a huge riot that ended up turning the "peace and love" festival into a "war and hate" festival.

The '90s are obviously gone and LINKIN PARK took LIMP BIZKIT's thrones a long time ago, and Fred Durst says "it's time everyone moved on — if they haven't already." Fred: everyone moved on a long time ago!

During an interview with Kerrang! magazine, the singer said that, despite recently signing with Lil Wayne's Cash Money label, the Bizkit is, for all intents and purposes, done:

"Say in 2000, there were 35 million people who connected to this band. Twelve years later, lots of those people have moved on. We were a moment in time and it's over."

If LIMP BIZKIT was "a moment in time and it's over", why the hell sign a record contract with Cash Money? Apparently Durst and crew are not giving up on the bands wholesale — just that the U.S. population is unlikely to see LIMP BIZKIT on stage ever again:

"We've boycotted America for many years now... The reason? We just don't know what's going on in America. It's all about the new catchy thing and that's always changing. America is driven by record sales. It's the home of corporations. We're just LIMP BIZKIT, so we don't know how to do anything but LIMP BIZKIT."

Who the hell "boycotts" their own market? The truth of the matter is that no venue here in the U.S. is going to take the risk of booking LIMP BIZKIT after what happened at Woodstock.  Maybe it is time for LIMP BIZKIT to call it a day!
