Philip Anselmo Is Not Happy About The Super Bowl Coming To New Orleans, Find Out Why!

Last year, when Artisan News spoke with Philip Anselmo (PANTERA, DOWN) about his favorite NFL team the NOLA Saints, Anselmo said that because of bountygate and botched suspensions he's got no love for the NFL, comissioner Roger Goodell, and the Super Bowl in his city (scheduled to take place this Saturday, 2/3).

Here is what Anselmo had to say at the time:

As previously reported, Anselmo and Housecore Records thrashers WARBEAST have released a NEW split album entitled 'War of the Gargantuas'. The split, which is a total tease, includes two songs from each artist. This album serves as the first release of any solo work by Anselmo. Also, the two WARBEAST tracks on the split feature former bassist Alan Bovee before his amicable departure from the band. Since then, Dre Karst has joined on bass. Get it HERE!

Don't forget to catch Anselmo on tour with DOWN on “The Weed & Speed Tour: West Coast Throwdown in the Year of XIII”. The tour also features WARBEAST. The entire upcoming tour is dedicated to the memory of the late Mike Scaccia.

THE CULT Set To Headline The SXSW Auditorium Shores Stage!

The Cult will make its 2012 concert debut when the band plays the South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival next month, headlining the "Auditorium Shores Stage" on Saturday, March 17. The "Auditorium Shores Stage" show will be FREE and open to the public, and The Cult will take the stage at 8:00PM.

"SXSW is thrilled that The Cult is returning to play our biggest stage at Auditorium Shores," said Darin Klein, SXSW Festival Producer. "We're excited to hear their NEW tunes and their classic hits. The show is FREE and open to the public, so everyone in Austin should get fired up for a great night of music."

The Cult - Ian Astbury/vocals, Billy Duffy/guitar, Chris Wyse/bass and John Tempesta/drums - will make the appearance in support of 'Choice of Weapon', the band's first NEW studio album in five years, due out May 22 (Cooking Vinyl). Written by founding members Astbury and Duffy and produced by Chris Goss (Queens of the Stone Age, U.N.K.L.E., Masters of Reality) and Bob Rock (Metallica, Bush and The Cult's Platinum-certified Sonic Temple), the album reveals the band at its rawest and most visceral, and reflects the current discontent and destruction of our eco systems, the search for individual meaning against a tide of rampant materialism, narcissism and disconnected lives.

"The title of the record reflects the fact that here we are, we have a choice to make right now," Astbury recently told Rolling Stone. "In a metaphorical sense, a weapon can be a camera, a weapon can be a pen, a weapon can be a statement, a verbal statement, a weapon can be an article of clothing. I think what needs to be said is that we have to start looking inward. Our spiritual lives are almost bankrupt. The material systems are not going to fix where we are."

'Choice of Weapon', The Cult's first NEW studio album in five years, will be released on May 22 (Cooking Vinyl), and the band - Asbury, Duffy, drummer John Tempesta, and bassist Chris Wyse - will tour extensively in support of it.

The Cult's "Sanctuary" Featured On One Of The Best Super Bowl Commercials!

If you missed Budweiser's "Eternal Optimism," the inspirational, one-minute commercial that aired on yesterday's Super Bowl between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots (the Giants won 21-17), featuring a mashup of The Cult's international hit "She Sells Sanctuary" and rapper Flo-Rida's Top 10 smash "Good Feelin,'" you can check it out below.

The one-minute spot is a celebratory romp through several decades of great times in America that begins with the end of Prohibition in 1933.

Written by The Cult's vocalist Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, "She Sells Sanctuary" reached #15 on the UK charts and was a Top 40 dance hit in the U.S. In a review, one journalist wrote, "Duffy's liquid, quasi-psychedelic guitar intro over a buzz of flanged feedback suddenly rips into a triumphant, driving lead melody that's jaw dropping."

'Choice of Weapon', The Cult's first NEW studio album in five years, will be released on May 22 (Cooking Vinyl), and the band - Asbury, Duffy, drummer John Tempesta, and bassist Chris Wyse - will tour extensively in support of it.

'Choice of Weapon' is aimed at the heart of The Cult's loyal following. It reflects the current discontent and destruction of our eco systems, the search for individual meaning against a tide of rampant materialism, narcissism and disconnected lives. "We went deeper... we worked a bit harder on this record. We have great fans and they deserve our best," added Duffy, "and I feel this is as strong as any album we have ever released.

The Cult 'Choice of Weapon' Track Listing:

1) Honey From a Knife
2) Elemental Light
3) For The Animals
4) Life>Death
5) The Wolf
6) Amnesia
7) Lucifer
8) Wilderness Now
