Jimmy Bower From EYEHATEGOD & DOWN Gets Married By Mike Williams - Images Available!
Guitarist and drummer Jimmy Bower (EYEHATEGOD, DOWN) is officially married to the love of his life: Dana Kieferle Bower. And guess who married them? Noneother than Mike Williams, who is EYEHATEGOD's scremaer! Now, that's METAL!
We want to congratulate them and wish them a life full of joy!
Upcoming EYEHATEGOD shows:
- 05/24/2012 Maryland Deathfest @ Sonar: Baltimore, MD
Eyehategod unleashed their Live DVD last year via MVD. The 88-minute production features multi-camera footage from 2009 (Baltimore, MD) and 2010 (Cleveland, OH), with bonus clips from the last show of their 2010 European tour and videos never before released before on DVD. Commented popular Canadian web portal Hellbound in a recent review of the film: "Trust Eyehategod to put out a live DVD that looks like a fifth-generation VHS bootleg from 25 years ago. And bless ‘em for it. After all, the pure grit and amateurishness of the way the two live sets on Live are shot are far more appropriate for the New Orleans sludge legends than, say, a lavish light show, crane shots galore, and a five-channel surround mix. Nah, instead we’re privy to poorly lit, hand-held shots from various angles, most of which are right smack in the middle of the chaos the band is creating, and sound quality that’s muddy and distorted. It looks and sounds absolutely filthy, and it’s perfect." Added Cvlt Nation simply: "...a piece of Eyehategod cinematic history." A perfect dose of Black Flag meets Black Sabbath in ragged, live glory. Order your copy HERE where you'll also find a new selections of T-shirts and hoodies.

Exhumed, Goatwhore & Havok = Triple ThreaT of meTal (Video Available)!
Last Wednesday (November 9th), three very dangerous bands took center stage at Club Europa in Brooklyn, NY and pummeled the audience with an extreme dose of Metal. We are talking about Exhumed, Goatwhore and Havok, of course. This tour package is definitely one of the hardest hitting North American tours in the Fall of 2012. Not only does each band possess a unique blend of ear piercing sounds, but the three bands offered a very cohesive night of razor sharp Metal for all those who dared to attend! While we were there, we conducted interviewed with members from each band, and came up with a real cool piece titled "Triple ThreaT of meTal!" that you should all watch after you read our exclusive show review!
The show at Club Europa was set on fire by Havok from Denver, Colorado. A band that has been making plenty of Thrashing noise ever since their inception in 2004. The energy that this band delivered while on stage to the headbangers of New York was lethal and they definitely brought joy to the audience thanks to their positive vibrating Metal. If you haven't checked Havok out, you must!
Next up, was the one and only Goatwhore. A band that ignites any venue up thanks to the crushing in your face Blackened Death Metal that's delivered with precision by Ben Falgoust and company. When this band steps on stage nobody is allowed to stand still, and if they do, they might be ran over by the members of the pit. There is no question that when Goatwhore comes to New York City, the most extreme Metalheads leave their basements to pay homage to one of the most crushing Heavy Metal bands today. If you missed them this time around, they will be returning in 2012 with Lock Up (click here for details)! They will also be releasing their fifth studio album on this upcoming Valentine's Day, how lovely!
Finalizing the night of neck crushing Metal was the mighty Exhumed. Ever since they surfaced in 1990, these guys have been constantly mixing the envelope of Metal with their unique flavors of Gore Metal. From the second they step on stage they are like a stick of dynamite that's ready to explode, and as a result the fans go absolutely ape shit. Their groundbreaking music is to blame for kids going home with a sore neck, a nice buzz, and definitely drenched with sweat, or maybe even some blood. Their NEW songs from "No Guts, No Glory" (available now via Relapse Records) are transmitted effortlessly live; even the faster technical parts sound pretty damn tight. If you haven't seen Exhumed live yet, do your ears and neck a favor by checking these extremists out!
Without further due, here is a video entitled "Triple ThreaT of meTal!", starring Exhumed, Goatwhore, and Havok! Watch and share!
Remaining tour-dates:

No Mercy Metal defined by Open Denile

From the moment they get on stage, these young guys jam their souls out and make sure that everyones face is melted. Their is no doubt that this band works very hard at crafting their music. This is evident when they take the listener through various Metallic passages during their well structured songs. Open Denile is definitely taking a smart risk by writing longer songs then most up and coming bands, and this can only be accomplished thanks to their great musicianship. If you think about Old School Metal bands and compare them to newer bands, their songs are much better structured. How has this influenced the destructful sounds of the band?

Well, all the members of Open Denile have very different musical influences and this makes them challenge each other when composing music. However, when it comes to Old School Metal they all agree that watching and learning from the legends of the genre, have helped them to shape up the sound of the overall sound of the band. This is really important because when you have musicians that have different procedures when writing music, it is essential to find that common ground in order to make sure that nothing clashes. If anything Open Denile is clashing the New York Heavy Music scene with No Mercy Metal!
Here is an EXLUSIVE interview with the entire band after they outperformed every band that took part of the No Mercy Metal Brooklyn edition!

The Impact of Eyehategod

If there is a band that is living proof of all of this, it is Eyehategod. The band was founded in 1988 by Jimmy Bower and Joey Delatte, who were joined by Joe Fazzio and Kevin Bond from Crawlspace NoLa & Superjoint Ritual. Ever since their inception their have been various lineup changes, but regardless of whose in the band they have always been a driving force within the Heavy Music scene in NOLA. Their sludge Metal became a trademark within Heavy Music worldwide and their unique sound is incomparable. Eyehategod's music is the result of a group of friends getting together in a jam room and writing some simple, heavy and balls out music!

At their most recent stop in New York, we did the most chaotic interview in Horns Up Rocks history! This serves us and them right, specially since the only way to define Eyehategod is by using the word chaos! During the interview we discussed the past, the present, and the future of the band, as well as the comradery of the band. We also discussed their new Live DVD which is coming out on March 22nd, as well as when the fans can expect a new Eyehategod album.
Without further due, here is the exclusive interview we did with Eyehategod at Club Europa in Brooklyn. We want to thank our friends at Earsplit PR for hooking us up!

Hardcore Headliners Brooklyn Invasion
Ever since we started Horns Up Rocks we have come across hundreds of bands, promoters, and fans, that are helping to resurrect the scene. We believe that a big beneficiary of the global economic crisis is the underground Heavy Music scene! And since going to a show is a necessity for any Heavy Music fan, it works beautifully.

Sunday SEVEREDness with Heart Beat Still

On Sunday March 14th 2010, Horns Up Rocks joined hundreds of rockers over at Club Europa in Brooklyn, to witness the video shoot of New York's SEVERED! The video was shot for their song "A Better Way". I had completely forgotten about this event since I was out of it that entire weekend, but good ol' Facebook reminded me. It's amazing how lazy we all became thanks to the internet. The night was packed with great bands, great people and plenty of booze! It was a "New York Raging 101" type of night.
I got their early since I wanted to catch all the bands, so I could write a kick ass article for all of you to enjoy. The first band that played was A Striking Resemblance who managed to warm the crowd up by playing a decent. Next up was Heart Beats Still from Queens; the band possesses a perfect blend of Heavy Metal and New York Hard Core. As soon as they got on stage they where ready to scream and jam their heads off! After a few songs I recognized their lead singer Mike because of his chaotic display of vocal power. Mike and I had met many years ago in Queens at a rehearsal of his previous band. It's always cool when music brings people together. Mike is a very outgoing guy with a lot to say and always manages to insult people with respect. Makes no sense? Check the ROCKAST out and you might figure him out. And since music speaks louder than words, especially Heavy Music! We threw in some of their songs for all of you to enjoy!

The next band up was The Wrath of Hera who played some nasty Grind Core and touched on a lot of explicit themes. They definitely enjoyed pushing the envelope and made a few of us laugh at their antics. As the night progressed the crowd was getting rowdy, Horns Up Rocks was backstage and it was a rager! Once Until Ashes and Empyreon finished their killer sets, the crowd was getting anxious to see Severed. Why? Let me tell you about Severed.
Severed is one of the bands in New York that is raising the flag of New York Metal high up in the air. Their music is well thought crushing heaviness, combined with some melodies a la Swedish Metal. As soon as Severed got on stage the crowd went nuts, the pit erupted and Club Europa was jumping up and down. Oh, there was also a dude break-dancing in the middle of the circle pit. We will have some video up of that night real soon on the “Horns Up Eye” You Tube channel.

After a few songs crushed all our ear drums, some unnecessary drama almost ruined the night for some of us. All of a sudden this dude is getting on some girls faces. I have no idea what went down that caused this dude to erupt at these young girls. But a MAN must never harass or touch a woman aggressively, regardless of what the situation is. As soon as I saw this I got in front of the girls and calmed them down, he also mellowed out for a second.
Then he comes back to continue harassing them and one of the girls started crying. Thanks to this dude who can't control his drinking, some of us lost sight for a couple of minutes of the madness Severed was displaying on stage. So I go to try to talk some sense into the guy, I tell him: "Fight anyone you want, but not a girl!" He just looked at me pissed off, but I wasn't scared at all. I was born and raised in Colombia during the most dangerous era, so he had no impact on me no matter how tough he looked.
All of a sudden since he sees that I am not reacting to his cowardliness, he pushes me towards the girls. I grab him as I am falling so he wouldn't hit the girls, he falls too and security shuffles him out of the venue. Here is some advice to all of you out there: if you are going drink to lose control, stay home and lose control by yourself, don't ruin other peoples nights just because you can't control your own addictions.
Once the drama was kicked out of the door, the focus was back on Severed. Once Severed completed their furious set, the crowd immediately started chanting: "One more song!" Their lead singer Christian replied with a simple: "OK!" On the last song the crowd went wild and if you take a look at the Video teaser for "A Better Way", you will get an idea of what I am talking about. You can also check out the Severed photo gallery.
With bands like Severed and Heart Beats Still, New York Metal is in good hands!
We will post the interview with Christian soon, for now you can listen to it right here.
Here is the trailer for Severed's "A Better Way". You can expect to see the video very soon and you can expect Horns Up Rocks to have it on the site for your viewing pleasure.
