The DEFTONES Interviewed At SLIPKNOT's "KnotFest" About Their NEW Album!

Recently, Woody of the Minneapolis, Minnesota radio station 93X chatted with the DEFTONES at SLIPKNOT's first-ever "KnotFest": the two-date Metal and Hard Rock festival that took place on August 17 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and August 18 in Somerset, Wisconsin. Here is what went down:

As previously reported, on Friday, July 27, the DEFTONES performed at a private event at Warner Bros. Records in Burbank, California. During this special performance, they debuted two NEW songs called "Rosemary" and "Roller Derby". The as of yet entitled NEW DEFTONES album is scheduled to be released on October 9, 2012. The follow up to the critically acclaimed 'Diamond Eyes', released on May 4, 2010, is a lethal album for the DEFTONES and they know this. This is why once again they have lined up producer Nick Raskulinecz, who also produced 'Diamond Eyes'.

Lead singer Chino Moreno told Billboard.com why the band got back to work faster than usual. "It was important that we wanted to not drag it out," he said. "We have a well-documented history of taking forever to make records. But with our last record, we did it in a really short, good amount of time, probably four or five months from the time we started writing until we finished it. For us, that was record time, so this time the idea was, 'Let's go in and start a record on this date and let's try to be finished by summertime and keep this work ethic we kind of stumbled upon on the last one,' and we did."

'Diamond Eyes' sold 62,000 copies in the US in its first week and debuted at the Number 6 position on The Billboard 200 chart. 'Diamond Eyes' was the deftones first album, since their bassist Chi Cheng had a horrific car accident on November 4, 2008. The accident left him in a comatose state. Sergio Vega recorded 'Diamond Eyes', toured with the band, and is back in the studio to record the bands seventh studio album.

Asked how the NEW DEFTONES disc sounds, Moreno told Billboard.com, "It's not a super fast or slow record. It's very dynamic. Some of my favorite things about DEFTONES are the dynamics. Yes, we're a heavy band, but we're not just in-your-face aggro the whole time, punching you in the face. There's a lot of aggression in some of the music, but there's also this very soothing element where there's a lot of soundscapes rather than attack, attack, attack the whole time. I understand that's a big part of our sound, but I really feel like we reached a peak on our dynamics on this record with those two qualities — the beauty of something and just straight, ruthless aggression."

DEFTONES Set Release Date For Seventh Studio Album; Elvis Presley Cover To Be Included?

The as of yet entitled NEW DEFTONES album is scheduled to be released on October 9, 2012. The follow up to the critically acclaimed 'Diamond Eyes', released on May 4, 2010, is a lethal album for the DEFTONES and they know this. This is why once again they have lined up producer Nick Raskulinecz, who also produced 'Diamond Eyes'.

Entertainment Weekly recently chatted with Chino Moreno about the bands seventh studio album, here are some excerpts from the interview:

"When we’re writing a song… we always come up with a name so we can reference it, and usually it’s just the silliest thing off the top of the head of Abe [Cunningham, drums] or Stephen [Carpenter, guitars]. Usually it’s outrageously dumb or an inside joke, [which] forces me to come up with great song titles so those [fake] titles will never live on. It’s much easier for me in hindsight to step back and look at it."

Returning for his second outing with the Deftones is producer Nick Raskulinecz, fresh off the triumphant 'Clockwork Angels' album with Rush. Moreno talks about NEW structure with Raskulniecz:

"We adopted a work ethic that was really productive on [Diamond Eyes]. We said we [would] work eight hours a day, and since we had those hours, everybody was super focused. Before that we had been working up in Sacramento, and the vibe was everybody would come in, hang out, and we would work when we got around to it. We had to get more efficient."
Okay finally, the cover song talk. What u think?

"We’ve done a lot of ’80s stuff, but we wanted to do something from farther back. We sat down and everybody… was playing songs that we like. So we’re going to do an Elvis Presley song; we have five Elvis songs that we’ve been talking about. And we’re going to do Earth, Wind, and Fire. Hopefully we’ll get at least two, maybe three or four. It’s always fun. We’re done with the real creative part of having to come up with music out of thin air, and now we can be experimental with someone else’s song."

As previously reported, the DEFTONES and SYSTEM OF A DOWN will be joining forces on what will be a series of live shows, that promise to be loud and dangerous! Here is the confirmed list of tour dates:

NEW deftones - Diamond Eyes!

The day many of us have been waiting for has finally arrived. The new deftones album titled "Diamond Eyes" is in stores now and it is a record that will help the band add a new layer of success to their amazing career. "Diamond Eyes" is the sixth studio album from the deftones and it is an instant classic. "Diamond Eyes" is the type of album that once you start listening to it, you are so consumed by their adrenalized sound that the next thing you know, you are giving it a second spin. Every song on the album is crisp, Chino's vocals are beautifully destructive, the rhythm section is tighter than Giselle's body and the guitar sounds are heavy and dirty.

In my opinion "Diamond Eyes" is on the same scale as "Adrenaline", "Around the Fur" and "White Pony". And if you want to have the most sensual musical experience with your significant other, this is the album you want to have as soundtrack to your sexual healing adventures, add some candle light and you should experience the night of your lives. Enough said!

While I know that many of you have heard it before today, since it leaked on the Internet over a month ago. Horns Up Rocks is a huge supporter of purchasing music. So support the band and remember that the money the band makes from the sales of "Diamond Eyes" will help to cover the medical bills of bassist Chi Cheng.

Here is the video for Diamond Eyes:

Here is an interview of deftones with our good friend Jose Mangin, at the Revolver Golden God Awards:
