Courtney Love On NIRVANA's "Reunion": "Look, if John [Lennon] were alive it would be cool."

This past Wednesday, December 12, many of Rock N' Roll's finest stars took over New York City's Madison Square Garden for "12.12.12" the Concert For Sandy Relief. The live music event helped provide assistance to the millions of people throughout the tri-state area who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Towards the end of the event, which finalized around 1 AM Eastern Time, THE BEATLES' legend Paul McCartney was joined by the surviving members of NIRVANA - Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic - and Pat Smears from the FOO FIGHTERS. The group performed "Cut Me Some Slack", a song that will be available to purchase as part of a live compilation album of songs from the evening. It will also be included on the soundtrack of Grohl's NEW movie, "Sound City Movie" (Watch the trailer HERE).

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Courtney Love (Kurt Cobain's widow), went on Facebook even before the event and wrote that she was "not amused" by McCartney's involvement, adding, "Look, if John [Lennon] were alive it would be cool."

After the performance, she returned online to post a series of trademark incoherent comments. For example: "if they don't do songs they didn't write (Nirvana songs they don't own) i don't care."

The famously controversial Love, also bashed Krist Novoselic's bass playing. Love responsed to a comment from a Facebook user named Scott, who really enjoyed the performance. Love replied, "Scott really? I will repeat, with Krist's bass playing? Lets be clear hes not exactly known for its brilliance." Watch video of this historic performance HERE!

Before introducing the song, McCartney said: "Recently some guys asked me to go and jam with them. So I showed up... and in the middle of it, these guys kept saying, 'We haven't played together for years, you know?'

"The penny finally dropped, I finally understood that I was in the middle of a NIRVANA reunion."

Legendary Rock Photographer Mark Weiss To Hold Gallery Show In New York City This Thursday - Details Available!

This Thursday, September 6, legendary Rock N' Roll photographer Mark Weiss will be displaying many of his kick ass photos at Grit N' Glory in New York City. The event will also feature sexy fashion designs by Leggblings presented by very attractive women.

Who is Mark Weiss?

Well, here is some information about the very talented Mark Weiss: In 1973, 14-year -old Mark made a deal with a guy in his New Jersey neighborhood to cut the neighbor’s lawn all summer in exchange for a 35 mm camera. While still in high school, Mark snuck his camera into concerts, making his way up to the stage to shoot. He developed the prints in his parent’s bathroom and sold them for a buck a piece.

In 1977 Mark was arrested for selling his photos outside of the KISS Concert at Madison Square Garden and spent the night in jail. The next day he walked into the offices of Circus magazine with his portfolio. The timing was perfect. The art director needed AEROSMITH pictures. Mark’s first published work was a centerfold of Steven Tyler. Soon thereafter, Mark was hired as staff photographer for Circus, shooting covers and features. Fast forward a few years and Mark was shooting KISS, Steven Tyler, OZZY and other rock legends in his own studio, just two blocks away from Madison Square Garden where it all started.

Ozzy Osbourne has said of the photographer: “I’ve known Mark Weiss since he was a teenager. He was relentless in the pursuit of his art. Mark would knock on my hotel door all hours of the day and night wanting to take photos. He definitely had and still has the Rock N' Roll spirit.”

By the age of 20, Mark was publishing his photos worldwide in major Rock magazines such as Rolling Stone, Creem, Hit Parader and Rock Scene. He branched further into editorial work, shooting iconic celebrities of the 80’s, including Drew Barrymore, Rodney Dangerfield, Jack Nicholson and Cheech & Chong, to name a few. Mark was the primary photographer for MTV when it debuted in 1981, documenting many pop music firsts, including Madonna’s first sit-down interview.

Mark developed relationships with musicians and their managers, becoming immersed in creating the visual imagery of the Rock N' roll scene through his photography, art direction and video direction. Mark traveled around the world photographing tours for OZZY, AEROSMITH, MOTLEY CRUE, GUNS N' ROSES, KISS and BON JOVI, while creating album covers such as BON JOVI’s 'Slippery When Wet' and TWISTED SISTER’s 'Stay Hungry'.

More recently, Mark has added to his Rock archives by photographing rap, hip hop and pop stars, including album covers for Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani. Today, Mark’s iconic images line the walls of Broadway’s hit musical Rock of Ages at the Helen Hayes Theater. Mark continues to work with the iconic bands he started with more than 30 years ago, as well as with new artists. He also is involved with many charitable organizations, donating his photographs and time.

VAN HALEN Prove That The Old School Rock Mentality Will Always DOMINATE!

FROM VAN HALEN's NEWS DESK:

A grinning David Lee Roth stood at center stage at Madison Square Garden, his red handkerchief aflutter. He was the matador and guitarist Eddie Van Halen was the raging bull. Moments later, he was peering over Eddie’s shoulder as if he were a schoolroom cheat and the answers to the science test were printed on Van Halen’s fretboard. Then he spun away, hands in the air, as proud as a parent with a prize-winning son.

Roth perfected this dance in the early ’80s. For almost a quarter-century, he didn’t get to do it: He left Van Halen for a solo career in 1985 and the group carried on without him. But he is now back, and the latest Van Halen tour, timed to support “A Different Kind of Truth” — the band’s first album with Roth in decades — is suffused with the joy of a thing put right. Diamond Dave is back where he belongs, and when he asked the capacity crowd to exercise some selective amnesia, they were happy to comply.

In the years following Roth’s departure, the band continued churning out hits. None were in Tuesday’s set. Instead, the band charged gleefully through nearly two hours of selections from its first six albums, with a sprinkling of material from “Truth.” The new songs, built from demos left over from early sessions, fit in fine alongside hard rock evergreens like “Running With the Devil,” “Unchained” and “Beautiful Girls.” Even “Tattoo,” the rote new single, sprang to life. The pulverizing “China Town,” another platform for Eddie Van Halen’s fantasia, was a concert highlight marred only by Roth’s silly pantomime of a servile Asian stereotype.

Roth, 56, is a bit like grenadine: sticky and syrupy, and certainly not something you’d want to consume straight. But he can make an intoxicating mixture brighter and sweeter. The prancing, hyperactive lead singer was born for the stage — had he not become a hard rock frontman, he would have made an outstanding circus clown. His greatest talent, however, is coaxing the best out of musicians with the Van Halen surname. At the Garden, there were three of them: the sorcerous Eddie, 57; his brother Alex, 58, a drummer of tremendous power and precision; and Eddie’s capable son Wolfgang, 20, who has taken over for Michael Anthony as the group’s bassist. Like many long-running firms, Van Halen has become a family business, with Roth as the hired CEO giving the concern with its public face and pushing the team to choose risk over complacency.

Eddie Van Halen remains one of the miraculous musicians of the past 40 years. Much of what he can accomplish with a six-string defies explanation. Not only can he switch between rhythm and lead parts so deftly that it seems like he’s playing both simultaneously, he can simulate the sound of a classical string section, a forest full of insects and tree frogs, or a helicopter crash. His instrument sounds like it was strung with live wires — if it started smoking or shooting off sparks as he played, no one would be surprised. His style has been imitated by so many hard rockers, it’s amazing he still has the capacity to astonish. But astonish he does and he does it effortlessly, with an imaginative faculty that never takes a measure off.

“Eruption,” the exercise in fretboard-tapping that has become a metal cliché rehashed by a thousand guitar-store clerks, was a revelation in the hands of its originator on Tuesday. Most hard rock guitar solos are indulgent. Eddie’s could have gone on for twice as long and nobody would have minded.

With his black clothing and slightly disaffected stance, Wolfgang looks like an alt-rocker, but he discharged Anthony’s parts — and the high backing vocals that are an underappreciated component of the Van Halen sound — with confidence and a few pleasing embellishments of his own.

Alex is nearly as imitated as his famous brother. As inspiring as the frenetic double-bass part on “Hot for Teacher” or the menacing rolls on “Ain’t Talkin’ ’Bout Love” are on record, watching Alex hammer out those beats in concert is a deeper pleasure.

As for Roth, his voice is not the supple instrument it once was. His performance of “Jump” was mostly an enthusiastic guess. But even in his prime, Roth was never the most accurate or mellifluous singer.

He made up for his deficiencies with his sense of humor, his theatrical style and his perpetual delight. Those were always crucial parts of Van Halen’s personality and kept the band from falling into the self-serious trap that ensnared many of its peers.

Time has not dented Roth’s showmanship, although the years have softened his stance. In the ’80s, he was a font of sexuality and danger; these days, he’s more goofy than salacious. It didn’t matter much: Van Halen was Van Halen again, and that was a gift that only Roth could give.

It wasn’t his only gift. Roth enlisted Kool and the Gang to open the show. On paper, this was a head-scratcher: What did the Jersey City funk-pop stalwarts have to do with Van Halen?

More than a bit, as it turned out. Roth, frontman of a great party band, recognizes another great party band when he sees it. In a 50-minute opening set, the 11-piece combo swept through 30 years of music history, encompassing hard-grooving disco-soul (“Ladies Night”), raw funk (“Jungle Boogie”), cheesy but wonderful ’80s dance classics (“Celebration”), guitar rock (“Misled”) and even a little hip-hop. Some Van Halen fans were skeptical at first, but by the time Robert “Kool” Bell locked into the bass strut on “Hollywood Shuffle,” they were swaying in their seats. By “Get Down on It,” many were dancing.

THE OLD SCHOOL WILL NEVER DAY! THANK YOU VAN HALEN!!!

VAN HALEN Make Triumphant Return To New York City's Madison Square Garden - Video Available!

Photo by: I Rock The Shot

Last night (Tuesday, February 28), VAN HALEN made a triumphant return to Madison Square Garden, "The Worlds Most Famous Arena", in New York City. The highly anticipated show was in celebration of the bands NEW album entitled 'A Different Kind Of Truth'. VAN HALEN were joined by Kool and the Gang, who VAN HALEN handpicked for this very special tour. If you missed last nights New York City show, make sure you check the band out this Thursday, March 1st at MSG.

While this was the return of VAN HALEN to MSG, it wasn't their return to the city that never stops Rocking. A few months ago, the band returned to New York City and performed at a tiny nightclub in New York City called Cafe Wha? The private show welcomed 250 VIP guests and it ended up being as successful as the bands 2007/2008 reunion tour with original singer David Lee Roth. This show was considered a warm up gig and it also served as the bands promotional campaign kick off for their NEW album.

Motörhead Prove Their Legacy At Gigantour In New York Rock City!

Last Saturday (January 28) we had the chance to catch the legendary Heavy Metal band Motörhead live and loud at New York City's WaMu Theater, located inside Madison Square Garden. The occasion? The 2012 version of Gigantour, which also featured Megadeth, Volbeat, and Lacuna Coil! The sold out show, which welcomed over 6,000 headbangers, had a lot of ups and downs! While the bands all performed their very best, the volume for all four bands was too low for such a big show. As a result, many concertgoers felt ripped off! We can't blame them! Heavy Music is meant to be loud and proud.

As we all know not only is Motörhead one of the most influential Heavy Metal bands of all time, but lets not forget that their singer/song writer/bassist/badass Lemmy Kilmister is GOD! Or as Oderus from Gwar puts it: "the Metallic Pope"!

After over 35 years of extreme hard work, drinking, partying and taking all over the world, some may think that the band might be getting old and that they are becoming irrelevant. Rest assured that when it comes to Motörhead this equation does not apply, specially not after the release of their new album titled "The World Is Yours". The band sounds fresh, tight as hell, and just like with fine Whiskey: the more they age, the better they get.

From the moment they stepped on stage and faced the rabid fans who sold it out the show, the entire room went absolutely insane! In the many years we have been attending concerts, we have never seen a crowd throw so many Horns UP as they did whenever Lemmy interacted with the furious crowd! The band played classics such as "Ace Of Spades" and "Overkill". Additionally, drummer Mikkey Dee performed a very impressive solo!

SETLIST:

1) Bomber
2) Damage Case
3) I Know How To Die
4) Metropolis
5) Over the Top
6) The Chase Is Better Than the Catch
7) The One to Sing the Blues (Drum solo)
8) Going to Brazil
9) Killed by Death
10) Ace of Spades
11) Overkill

If there is a man that should have a statue in London's Trafalgar Square, its Lemmy Kilmister! And if Motörhead does not get inducted into the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame, we will personally start a riot! \m/

MEGADETH Gets Turned Down At Madison Square Garden, But Manage To Shred The Audience To Pieces!

This past weekend, the 2012 version of Gigantour took over The Theater at Madison Square Garden! This time around Dave Mustaine from Megadeth, who is the creator of Gigantour, brought with him Motörhead, Volbeat, and Lacuna Coil!

After a stellar set from the Kings of Old School Metal, Motörhead, Megadeth took center stage and without needing to warm up started delivering the goods to a very hungry crowd. While it is obvious that Mustaine does not have the same vocal power that he used to have when he was a youngster, he still has the guitar skills that placed him in the Heavy Music spotlight many years ago. But lets not forget about the talented musicians that he is lucky enough to call his bandmates. Lets face it, its real hard to find a band that is as tight as Megadeth. Not only are bassist Dave Ellefson and drummer Shawn Drover in perfect synch when it comes to the grooving machine behind Megadeth, but the shredding skills of guitarist Chris Broderick compliment the bands overall sound perfectly.

Some of the higlights of Megadeth's set included: a duet between Dave Mustaine and Cristina Scabbia, the two very talented musicians joined forces and sang together "A Tout Le Monde" (see the video below). Another epic moment of the night was when Mustaine brought his 14 year old daughter on stage and the entire crowd sang her happy birthday! It was very cool to see Mustaine to pay tribute to his daughter in front of 6,000 maniacs. Our only complains about Megadeth's set were that their set was too short and that the volume wasn't loud enough. Apparently, those who were sitting all the way on top couldn't hear a thing!

Megadeth's setlist - New York City (1/28/2012):

1) Trust
2) Wake Up Dead
3) Hangar 18
4) Sweating Bullets
5) Angry Again
6) Public Enemy No. 1
7) Whose Life (Is It Anyways?)
8) Guns, Drugs & Money
9) A Tout Le Monde (with Cristina Scabbia)
10) Symphony Of Destruction
11) Peace Sells (Dave sang Happy Birthday to his daughter)

Encore:

12) Holy Wars... The Punishment Due

BLACKDIAMONDSKYE at Madison Square Garden

On Friday night, Madison Square Garden welcomed the "BLACKDIAMONDSKYE" tour. The national tour features Alice In Chains, deftones and Mastodon. A lineup that is simply unmatched by any tour thus far in 2010. Both 3 bands represent different times in music, in which they have managed to become huge influences on many bands thanks to their statuses as flag holders. As we all know, Madison Square Garden is the dream venue for any musician to perform at, and Alice In Chains, deftones and Mastodon all made history together. Let us tell you about this magical night.

Earlier this year, we ran into Mastodon's singer/bassist Troy Sanders and drummer Brann Dailor at the Slipknot show at Madison Square Garden and told them: "You guys will be on that stage very soon!" Both of them sighed and smiled. Fast forward 7 months and they are opening the "BLACKDIAMONDSKYE" tour at the worlds largest arena. Thankfully we arrived just as Mastodon were starting their set with their song "Naked Burn", and we were very happy to witness this historical event. Mastodon warmed up the crowd with songs like "Divinations" and "Colony of Birchmen". The band kept blowing peoples minds throughout their 8 song set, which was concluded with "Blood and Thunder".

Then it was time for Sacramento's deftones to take over center stage at Madison Square Garden. From the get-go the band was on point and Chino looked and sounded phenomenal. It was evident that Chino needed to change his lifestyle in order to improve his performance-ship and after hearing members of the crowd say: "The deftones are back, Chino is definitely back!" It was evident that the band is in fact, back in style.

They opened their set with "Rocket Skates" and got the crowd grooving, then they got into Around the Fur mode and played "Around the Fur", "Be Quiet and Drive", and "My Own Summer". After a few new songs from their latest album "Diamond Eyes", the band played all the crowds favorites like "Change (In The House of Flies)", "Engine No. 9" and they left in a very high note after playing "7 Words". The deftones owned Madison Square Garden, and we expect them back within the next few years on their own headlining tour.

Then it was time for Alice In Chains to headline Madison Square Garden. As many of us know they are missing their original front-man Layne Staley, who died in 2002 from an overdose. In our opinion they have proved all skeptics wrong, and Alice In Chains did justice by bringing in William DuVall to replace Staley. Any doubt doubt anyone had on his performance before their performance, was quickly washed away by his amazing performance-ship and original stage antics.

The band kicked off their set with "Them Bones", which immediately made the crowd lose their minds. During the next hour and a half, Alice In Chains performed songs like "No Excuses", "Down in a Hole", "Rooster", "Man In The Box" and ended the amazing music night with "Would?". What impressed us the most about Alice In Chains, was the fact that all their older songs sounded timeless, their stage presence was intact and the light show was simple yet colorful.

If you get a chance to catch the "BLACKDIAMONDSKY" tour, do your ears a favor and take them to this sonically perfect tour.
