MEGADETH Gets Turned Down At Madison Square Garden, But Manage To Shred The Audience To Pieces!
This past weekend, the 2012 version of Gigantour took over The Theater at Madison Square Garden! This time around Dave Mustaine from Megadeth, who is the creator of Gigantour, brought with him Motörhead, Volbeat, and Lacuna Coil! The sold out show, which welcomed over 6,000 headbangers, had a lot of ups and downs! While the bands all performed their very best, the volume for all four bands was too low for such a big show. As a result, many concertgoers felt ripped off! We can't blame them! Heavy Music is meant to be loud and proud.
After a stellar set from the Kings of Old School Metal, Motörhead, Megadeth took center stage and without needing to warm up started delivering the goods to a very hungry crowd. While it is obvious that Mustaine does not have the same vocal power that he used to have when he was a youngster, he still has the guitar skills that placed him in the Heavy Music spotlight many years ago. But lets not forget about the talented musicians that he is lucky enough to call his bandmates. Lets face it, its real hard to find a band that is as tight as Megadeth. Not only are bassist Dave Ellefson and drummer Shawn Drover in perfect synch when it comes to the grooving machine behind Megadeth, but the shredding skills of guitarist Chris Broderick compliment the bands overall sound perfectly.
Some of the higlights of Megadeth's set included: a duet between Dave Mustaine and Cristina Scabbia, the two very talented musicians joined forces and sang together "A Tout Le Monde" (see the video below). Another epic moment of the night was when Mustaine brought his 14 year old daughter on stage and the entire crowd sang her happy birthday! It was very cool to see Mustaine to pay tribute to his daughter in front of 6,000 maniacs. Our only complains about Megadeth's set were that their set was too short and that the volume wasn't loud enough. Apparently, those who were sitting all the way on top couldn't hear a thing!
Megadeth's setlist - New York City (1/28/2012):
1) Trust
2) Wake Up Dead
3) Hangar 18
4) Sweating Bullets
5) Angry Again
6) Public Enemy No. 1
7) Whose Life (Is It Anyways?)
8) Guns, Drugs & Money
9) A Tout Le Monde (with Cristina Scabbia)
10) Symphony Of Destruction
11) Peace Sells (Dave sang Happy Birthday to his daughter)
Encore:
12) Holy Wars... The Punishment Due

Tour of Dave Mustaine's Room - Video Available!
Megadeth's leader, Dave Mustaine, recently sat down with Spin.com and gave them a tour of the room where he keeps his most priceless possessions. During the video segment, Mustaine also talked about his religious background and his recent neck injury.
Some of this possessions include:
- AC/DC's "Let There Be Rock": "I used to sell pot, and this girl who worked at a record store would pay me in albums. I remember putting this one on — the first song is called "Go Down" and the cover shows the scruffiest-looking hooligans I'd ever seen. I thought, "This is my band." It changed my life."
- Crossbow: "When we moved [to San Diego] from Arizona, my son Justis and I wanted to have a sport that we did together, so I got him a plastic bow and he was like, "Dad, this sucks — I want a real one." He's really good with this thing. We almost got a compound bow, but that's too serious. I don't wanna be Ted Nugent."
- Shofar: "I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness, rebelled by doing witchcraft, and got into all kinds of bad stuff before I saw a cross on a hill one day and said, "What've I got to lose?" [Mustaine is now a Christian.] But my mom is Jewish, and on holidays I blow this ram's horn to get rid of bad spirits."
In other Megadeth news, in late January the band will be headlining "Gigantour" 2012, also performing during this North American trek will be Motörhead, Volbeat, and Lacuna Coil! Here are the tour dates!

Megadeth's Dave Ellefson Issues Tour Update From Th1rt3en World Tour - Video Available!
Megadeth unleashed their thirteenth studio album entitled "TH1RT3EN" on November 1st, 2011, via Roadrunner Records. Today (Wednesday, November 9th), Megadeth is kicking off their Th1rt3en World Tour in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Here is a video update recorded today by Megadeth's bassist Dave Ellefson.
CD track listing:
01. Sudden Death
02. Public Enemy No. 1
03. Whose Life (Is It Anyways?)
04. We The People
05. Guns, Drugs & Money
06. Never Dead
07. New World Order
08. Fast Lane
09. Black Swan
10. Wrecker
11. Millennium Of The Blind
12. Deadly Nightshade
13. 13
So far Megadeth's NEW studio album has sold 42,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 11 on The Billboard 200 chart.
"TH1RT3EN" first-week chart positions:
Australia: #13
Belgium: #83
Ireland: #43
Netherlands: #42
Norway: #32
UK: #34
USA: #11
Metal Hammer asked Megadeth's front-man Dave Mustaine: Your latest album, "TH1RT3EN", has just hit the shelves. What can fans expect from that album?
Mustaine: I think fans are going to be able to expect a very exciting record. With David Ellefson [bass] coming back, it brought back the classic sound, but also with the progress that we made with Shawn Drover [drums] and Chris Broderick [guitar]. I think that it's a very heavy, modern sound, and then adding Johnny K [producer] to that with his production skills, this is the optimum record that we could've made right now. So I think that the fans are going to be very happy with this record.
Additionally, the band recently premiered the music video for the first single out of Th1rt3en for the song "Public Enemy No. 1". The comical video was shot in California, a few days after Megadeth performed at the Big Four Concert at Yankee Stadium. Oh, and it features a very badass monkey! Watch it now!

Are you ready for what promises to be one of the hardest hitting tours of 2012? It has just been announced that Megadeth will be joined by Motörhead, Volbeat, and Lacuna Coil for the 2012 version of "Gigantour"! This epic tour will kickoff on January 26th at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, NJ, and will conclude on February 28th at the The Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, CO. Tickets are on sale beginning November 4th. Additionally, Megadeth has teamed up with VIPNation.com to provide fans with Ultimate VIP packages including premium tickets, meet-and-greets, exclusive gifts and more. More tour-dates to be announced soon.
"Gigantour is a chance to tour with like-minded artists that play heavy music in a high-energy environment, with a fan-friendly ticket price." - Dave Mustaine (Megadeth)
"We've done festivals in Europe with Lacuna Coil and they're workaholics as well! Volbeat are great, too; the whole bill is pretty diverse and I advise everyone who likes being deaf, and/or can lip-read already, to come out and see what the stuff that doesn't get any MTV Video Awards sounds like! 'Gigantour' is just that!
"Megadeth are one of the greatest bands to tread a stage anywhere and me and Dave have been promising each other we'd tour together ever since we met! Volbeat and Lacuna Coil are interesting choices and I think it's gonna be incredible trying to understand each other backstage! Come and see what eclectic means! (look THAT up in your Funk & Wagnall's)! See you!" - Lemmy Kilmister (Motörhead)

Megadeth's Dave Mustaine - Update on Medical Condition!
A few days before the Big Four concert in New York City, featuring Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Megadeth's front-man Dave Mustaine faced the arduous decision of having to cancel his bands appearance at Yankee Stadium, after his doctor told him that he needed surgery on his neck. The reason for the surgery is that he suffers from stenosis, a neck and spine condition that Mustaine attributes to "years of headbanging". Fortunately, Dave Mustaine is a true Metal warrior and decided to perform the show.
Mustaine recently went under the knife, and his recovery is going very well. This is what he had to say about this via his Twitter account.
On a recent interview with Metal Obsession, Megadeth's skin man Shawn Drover commented: "He's recovered really well. Everything went really well and the surgery was a complete success. You know, he just needs time to heal. It takes time to heal. He needs to rest up before our South American tour in November. He really needed to have it done. He was in a lot of pain for the last several shows that we did during the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival tour and at the Big Four show at Yankee Stadium in New York City as well. It sucks seeing him in pain, but he's a real trooper. As soon as we were done with Yankee Stadium, we flew right back home and ran him to the doctor and got the results. Now we're really happy that he did that."

On November 1st, 2011, Thrash Metal titans Megadeth are releasing their 13th studio album appropriately titled TH1RT3EN via Roadrunner Records. Here is the track-listing of one of the most anticipated records of 2011.
CD track listing:
01. Sudden Death
02. Public Enemy No. 1
03. Whose Life (Is It Anyways?)
04. We The People
05. Guns, Drugs & Money
06. Never Dead

Here is a track by track breakdown by Megadeth's bassist Dave Ellefson, courtesy of MusicRadar.com.
1) "Sudden Death":
Ellefson: "This is a track that was being worked on when I rejoined the band. I came in on a Friday, I played my part on a Saturday, and on Monday we put out the press release that I was back in MEGADETH. So this song represents a real homecoming for me. Musically, I wanted to combine a New Wave Of British Heavy Metal and a thrash style in my bass playing. There's some great rhythmic work going on, particularly in the intro, and the riff, especially towards the end, gives me a chance to move up an octave and create tension underneath the guitars. All by itself, it's a very exciting song. But when I think about what it represents, it's deep on an emotional level."
2) "Public Enemy No. 1":
Ellefson: "We started writing this song during a soundcheck in Croatia last year, and we finished it in Vienna, Austria a short while later. Funnily enough, earlier this year we wrote another song on the record called 'Never Dead' in the same venue in Austria. So that place has magic in it. Again, it's another New Wave Of British Heavy Metal-type song, at least as far as what I do. I loved the early DEF LEPPARD records, and I'm copping a bit of a Rick Savage bass approach on it. I really tried to write around the vocals. I love to hear as much of the band, especially the vocals, when I record a bass part. As a player, I want to be the mortar between the blocks that glue the building together. Once the vocal melody developed, Johnny [K, producer] and I worked with Dave [Mustaine, guitar/vocals], and that allowed me to put down a strong bass part. It was a fun way to record. I had a lot of note choices available to me, and there's a cool moving bassline in the B section of the verse as well as the chorus. As a listener, none of that matters, but hopefully, you'll feel the song jump."
3) "Whose Life (Is It Anyways?)":
Ellefson: “This is some of my favorite kind of bass playing. In a not very obvious way, it harkens back to a kind of punk-rock style of picking.
“I went at it with a lot of fervor and tried not to overthink what I was doing. My main goal was to lock in with the drums. It’s a blazing song. Total attitude, lots of fun.”
4) "We The People":
Ellefson: “This song is like riff-mania. Dave has a great ability to write a fantastic array of riffs, and he’s a master at compiling them to create a song. He writes a riff, then he writes another riff, and when you think he can’t come up with another one, he does so – and then he puts them all together.
“Anybody who loves amazing Megadeth riffs will really be into We The People. It’s a total explosion of great parts.”
5) "Guns, Drugs & Money":
Ellefson: “I can’t even tell you how happy I am that we have a song that is made up of one riff. [laughs] That’s not always easy to do. I know a lot of metal fans don’t like Green Day, but I think they’re masters of the one-riff song. That’s what we did here, and it works beautifully.
“It’s so punk rock, the one-riff idea. The Ramones did it on so many of their songs - maybe all of them. When I heard Dave play this part, I knew that was all we needed. The band shifted dynamics in the chorus, Dave played around with the vocal melody…and it was a song!
“Many of our tracks are quite complex; that’s probably something a lot of our fans like about what we do. The genius of Guns, Drugs & Money, however, is in its simplicity.”
6) "Never Dead":
Ellefson: "When Dave first played me this riff, I was floored. It was so violent and in your face, it reminded me of the 'Peace Sells' album. In particular, it sounded a little like 'Good Mourning/Black Friday', but in a great new way. I loved it. What's funny is, Dave forgot about it for a while. We got together earlier this year to work on some stuff, and I reminded him about this one, and he couldn't remember it. Fortunately, he had recorded it on his BlackBerry, so he was able to find it. As soon as we all started playing it for real, we were like four little kids jumping around a room. It's such a strong riff. It's so huge, you can't help but get crazy when you hear it."
7) "New World Order":
Ellefson: “This one goes way back. We wrote it on the Clash Of The Titans tour in 1991 and made a demo of it for Countdown To Extinction, but it didn’t fit on that album for whatever reason. So it sat on the shelf all these years – however, it was included on the remixed and remastered Youthanasia record.
“Shawn Drover really pushed to have New World Order be on this record. Of all the songs that have never been officially released as formal master recordings, he really thought it was ready.
“It’s such an old-school thrash tune. We re-recorded it, and I think we improved the outro section for the solos. Dave updated some parts and made them more violent. It’s so cool! [laughs] Here we are, 20 years later, finally getting the song right and made into a master recording.”
8) "Fast Lane":
Ellefson: “Fast Lane was a funny one. As a bass player, it was all about learning some fancy licks, going into the studio and having the producer say, ‘Man, can’t you just play some eighth notes?’ [laughs]
“This song was me hunkering down and knocking it out and making my wrist a fulcrum. I'm just playing eighth notes, sixteenth notes, holding down the fort. I got going and locked in with the drums, and pretty soon, I didn't even know the tune was over – I was in the zone.
“Another cool driving song. You put this one on in your car, and you’re flying.”
9) "Black Swan":
Ellefson: “Black Swan had been recorded and not officially released during my time away from the band. When I heard it, it was one of my favorite tunes, and I could never figure out why it was never put out there. [laughs]
“I love the melody, the lyrics, the whole vibe. It was written before the movie Black Swan, so it has nothing to do with that - although people might naturally assume that's the case.
"I was really happy that Johnny K picked Black Swan out and said we should finish it up. As a listener, it really gets me.”
10) "Wrecker":
Ellefson: “This has one of the wittiest and funniest set of lyrics. I know Dave’s words are sometimes kind of dark, but Wrecker represents more of the humorous side to him.
“The riff is massive. It’s one of those parts where the whole band just rallied around and dug in and blew the house down. Some riffs are good, others are great, and then there’s riffs that just rock your world. Wrecker is the last example.”
11) "Millenium Of The Blind":
Ellefson: “Funnily enough, another song that was started in 1991. I don't know what it was about 1991. Anyway, a demo was made, but it was never released. We only had a few minutes of it on tape, so it needed some development. Dave and Johnny K really brought it up and made it into a full-length song.
“I’m glad they took the time with it, because it always had the startings of greatness, but it was never nurtured properly. Now it’s lived up to its promise.
“A lot of our stuff has to sit for a while. A great idea is a great idea, and if you come back to it, there’s gotta be a reason. I’m glad this song’s time has finally come.”
12) "Deadly Nightshade":
Ellefson: “Originally, the riff was written during the sessions for Youthanasia, or maybe Cryptic Writings. It’s been around for a while. See what I mean? Some of our stuff has to sit for a while.
“I’m so happy that the riff matured into a complete song – it's so menacing. [laughs] I seem to recall playing the basis for the song in Rome, Italy, during a soundcheck, and I remember seeing the janitor and the popcorn lady turning around and getting into it. That meant something to me.
“When you get right down to it, that’s the true test of a great song. Plenty of people will tell you something is cool, but if you can get the janitor and the popcorn lady at a venue rocking out to an unfinished song, come on, then you know it’s cool!” [laughs]
13) "13":
Ellefson: “It really epitomizes the story of Megadeth. Before starting the record, Johnny K had read Dave’s autobiography, and I think that helped him understand Dave’s psyche, as well as what Megadeth is all about.
“As the song was being developed musically, the words started to spill out onto the page, largely from Johnny’s conversations with Dave. If you ever wanted to hear a song that summed up the arc of Megadeth as a band, 13 is it.
“Chris Broderick did a great job with the acoustic and clean-sounding electric guitars. As a bassist, I love playing to those kinds of tones. They’re very open, and they let me be creative with the licks and the lines. It’s like bass playing from the 1970s, or even the ‘60s. James Jamerson, the great Motown bassist – I definitely tried to cop some of his groove, a very flowing style.
“The song ends on such a high. Megadeth hasn’t had a big, theatrical kind of song since In My Darkest Hour, so now we’ve got another one with 13. It’s the perfect ending to a great album.”

Slayer's Dave Lombardo at the Big Four Concert at Yankee Stadium!
This past Wednesday, September 14, 2011, Slayer performed an extremely tight set at the Big Four Concert at Yankee Stadium. The man to blame for Slayer's flawless performance is drummer Dave Lombardo. As we all know, Lombardo is considered one of the best drummers in Heavy Music and since his return to Slayer in 2002 he has been an instrumental component of the bands musical tightness both on and off stage. Here is some footage of Lombardo getting on stage and doing what he does best!
