Legions of fans worldwide were expecting a reunion tour following LED ZEPPELIN's triumphant reunion concert at London's O2 Arena in 2007. And apparently some of the members of the band also expected the reunion tour to happen. "Some of us thought we would be continuing, that there were going to be more concerts in the not-too-distant-future," Jimmy Page told Rolling Stone Senior Writer David Fricke in the NEW issue (on stands Friday). "Because there was a lot of work being put into the show."

"He was busy," says Page. "He was doing his Alison Krauss project. I wasn't fully aware it was going to be launched at the same time. So what do you do in a situation like that? I'd been working with the other two guys for the percentage of the rehearsals at the O2. We were connecting well. The weakness was that none of us sang."

LED ZEPPELIN Receive Award From President Barack Obama - Video Available!

British rock band Led Zeppelin have received a prestigious award from Barack Obama for their significant contribution to American culture and the arts.

Dressed in black suits and bow ties, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page were among a group of artists who received Kennedy Centre Honours at a dinner event at the White House.

Frontman Plant said he was flattered and overwhelmed by the award, adding that he was glad to see Jones and Page using "good table manners".

In his tribute to the band, Obama said: "When Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham burst onto the musical scene in the late 1960s, the world never saw it coming.

"There was this singer with a mane like a lion and a voice like a banshee, a guitar prodigy who left people's jaws on the floor, a versatile bassist who was equally at home on the keyboards, a drummer who played like his life depended on it.

"And when the Brits initially kept their distance, Led Zeppelin grabbed America from the opening chord. We were ready for what Jimmy called songs with "a lot of light and shade".

"It's been said that a generation of young people survived teenage angst with a pair of headphones and a Zeppelin album ... but even now, 32 years after John Bonham's passing - and we all I think appreciate the fact - the Zeppelin legacy lives on."

The president drew laughter from guests when he thanked the former band members for behaving themselves at the White House given their history of "hotel rooms being trashed and mayhem all around".

Barack Obama, Buddy Guy, Dustin Hoffman, David Letterman, Natalia Makarova, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant The band were among those honoured at a White House dinner.

He ended his speech saying: "We honour Led Zeppelin for making us all feel young, and for showing us that some guys who are not completely youthful can still Rock!"

Jimmy Page Discusses The Reasons Why LED ZEPPELIN Didn't Do A Reunion Tour!

With Plant out of the picture, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and drummer Jason Bonham continued rehearsing together in early 2008. "We didn't do any professional recording," says Page. "We just had a little digital recorder. I thought it was good. I wasn't going to walk away from it. But the weakness came up again. It was, 'We gotta have a singer.'"

LED ZEPPELIN Clashes With The Press At The "Celebration Day" Press Conference In New York City As Band Discusses Possible Reunion - Video Available!

Legendary Rock N' Roll band LED ZEPPELIN met the press yesterday (Tuesday, October 9) at New York City's Museum of Modern Art, following a screening of their NEW concert film, "Celebration Day". The band — Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and Jason Bonham filling in for his late dad John Bonham — talked about the one-off reunion concert filmed on December 10, 2007 at London's O2 Arena and performed as a tribute to Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun.

The chance of seeing more LED ZEPPELIN shows:

Plant: "That night, back then, we were just hangin' on for dear life. We were just watching each other, we were so happy we were getting it right. There were moments in it where we just took off, pushed off into some place. The responsibility of doing that four nights of week for the rest of time is a different thing. We're pretty good at what we do, but the tail should never wag the dog. If we're capable of doing something in our own time, that will be what will happen. So any inane questions from people from syndicated outlets, you should just really think about what it takes to answer a question like that in one second. We know what we've got."

Page: "I think if we had the opportunity to get back together again, which is what we had there to do the O2, things had left us a little uncomfortable like Live Aid and the Atlantic 40th, etc., we just really wanted to get it right and go out and play to people who maybe never heard us, who had heard about this reputation and what we were about, and basically stand up and be counted for what we were. That's my feeling, anyway."

Plant: "I think expectations are a horrific thing. If you go off and play in North Africa, you know you're going to have a good time and work with people and there's nothing else about it. That's how we started in a room with Jason's dad all that time ago. So to do anything at all together is such a kind of incredible weight, because sometimes we were fucking awful. And sometimes we were stunning and a couple of times we tried to get together in the meantime. I think we were really propelled by Jason and his enthusiasm and his dark glasses. He really brought the atmosphere and expectation because he knows far more about us than we do. He's got all the bootlegs, and he's in touch with the people who make the bootlegs."

The band also appeared last night at the gala premiere of the movie at the Ziegfeld Theater.
