Last year, GREEN DAY were performing at the IHeartRadio music awards and allegedly, the promoter cut the bands set in half in order to give USHER some extra time during his set. As a result, Billie Joe Armstrong had an onstage melt down when the band is prompted that they have 1 minute left during their hit song "Basket Case".
Following this incident, Billy Joe checked himself into rehab due to substance abuse. As a result, the bands was forced to postpone their North American tour. The good news is that Billy Joe is out of rehab and ready to hit the road in support of the bands NEW music trilogy: '¡Uno!', ¡'Dos!' and '¡Tré!' (available now via Reprise Records). The bad news is that they did had to cancel a bunch of tour dates due to scheduling conflicts.
On the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone magazine (in stands this Friday), Billie Joe Armstrong talks about his years of alcohol and prescription drug abuse and his stint in rehab following his onstage meltdown.
"I couldn't predict where I was going to end up at the end of the night," he tells Rolling Stone senior writer David Fricke. "I'd wake up in a strange house on a couch. I wouldn't remember how. It was a complete blackout." He finally confronted his problem after the Vegas radio festival, where the frontman smashed his guitar onstage and shouted, "I'm not fucking Justin Bieber, you motherfuckers."
"I remember tiny things," Armstrong says of the Vegas incident. "The next morning, I woke up. I asked [my wife] Adrienne, 'How bad was it?' She said, 'It's bad.' I called my manager. He said, 'You're getting on a plane, going back to Oakland and going into rehab immediately.'"
Read the full story tomorrow, Friday, March 1st.
The postponed tour dates are as follows:
- 3/28 - Chicago, IL - Allstate Arena
- 3/29 - Moline, IL - Wireless Center
- 3/31 - Pittsburgh, PA - Consol Energy Center
- 4/1 - Rochester, NY - Blue Cross Arena

FAITH NO MORE's Mike Patton Says No To NEW Music!
Following their mini tour in 2010, FAITH NO MORE have been laying low and so far the band hasn't announced a full comeback tour and album. However, the band did perform this past June in Europe at a series of shows.
Mike Patton recently told Australia's News.com.au that FAITH NO MORE have no plans to work on NEW material anytime in the near future. "We're pretty happy with just touring. There was talk: 'Should we write new stuff?' and we all looked at each other and said 'Nahhh, fuck it.' We did work up one NEW little thing [a song with the working title 'Matador', performance footage of which can be seen below] and that was really energizing."
Patton previously told RollingStone.com: "Reunions can be done very distastefully I think, and we were all very worried about that. But I think we were all very surprised with how good it felt. It's a tired old script: band splits up, gets hard up for cash, goes on tour and records a shitty record. We don't want to be part of that kind of history."

STEVE VAI Premieres NEW Song "John The Revelator"!
Virtuoso guitarist and visionary composer Steve Vai will be releasing 'The Story of Light' on August 14th. The album, which will be released on Vai's own Favored Nations Entertainment, contains 12 NEW songs, including the track "John The Revelator," which just received a premiere on Rollingstone.com (link available below).
Vai's rendition of the gospel call-and-response standard features vocals from The Voice finalist Beverly McClellan. The version, says Vai, was inspired by the 1930 recording by Blind Willie Johnson.
"I heard Blind Willie Johnson's version and it oozed with mojo," Vai says. "I was overwhelmed with the compunction to add some voodoo hot sauce to it."
'The Story of Light' is a sprawling and expressive 12-song set that continues a conceptual and cosmic narrative arc that began with the artist's most recent studio release, 2005's acclaimed 'Real Illusions: Reflections'.
Although 'The Story of Light' is largely instrumental, the album does feature guest vocalists including singer-songwriter Aimee Mann-dueting with Vai on "No More Amsterdam," which she also co-wrote. Other highlights include the title track (which opens the album), "Gravity Storm," "The Moon and I," and "Velorum."
Click here to listen to STEVE VAI's "John The Revelator"

Pre-order Steve Vai's NEW album!

Lita Ford's NEW Album 'Living Like A Runaway' Streaming Right Now; Listen & Then Buy It!
Today sees the release of the highly anticipated NEW album 'Living Like A Runaway', from Metal Icon LITA FORD via Steamhammer/SPV. The album will be available in four configurations: a double LP, limited edition CD, standard CD and digital download.
LITA commented on the release of 'Living Like a Runaway':
"The new album 'Living Like A Runaway' is finally ready for the universe to hear. You will feel it your bones when you listen to it. So get your NEW CD, put it in your car (or wherever your favorite place is to listen to music is) and BLAST IT LOUDER THAN LOUD!!!"
In celebration of the release RollingStone.com the online home of Rolling Stone Magazine is hosting an exclusive stream of the entire album. Listen to Living Like a Runaway in its entirety HERE.
FORD is beyond stoked to be sharing the new album with the help of Rolling Stone:
"Thanks to Rolling Stone for all their support and for streaming 'Living Like A Runaway' in its entirety!!! Rolling Stone rocks it big time as usual!!!"
Following
the demise of the Runaways, LITA FORD concentrated on her own career
and now looks back on many memorable hits including: the chart topping
duet with Ozzy Osbourne "Close Your Eyes Forever" "What Do You Know About Love", "Shot Of Poison", "Larger Than Life" and "Kiss Me Deadly". With the release of 'Living Like A Runaway', expect many more songs to be added to the list of hits.
LITA FORD
has teamed up with producer Gary Hoey and lyricist Michael Dan Ehmig to
work on 'Living Like A Runaway'. Together the team invested a lot of
time and effort into this kick ass project: "We worked on the lyrics
intensively to really give the songs a lot of meaning and that special
emotional depth. I think that these are some of the best lyrics ever,
period. FORD is referring to numbers such as "Devil In My Head",
"Hate", and "The Asylum" which see her bare her soul in a way which she
has never done before.
Coinciding with the album's release, LITA is hitting the road this summer with Def Leppard and Poison on the "Rock of Ages Tour". In addition to the dates with Def Leppard and Poison, LITA has confirmed additional headlining shows during the run. METALLICA's James Hetfield Has Hundreds Of Killer Riffs Ready For NEW Album - Interview Available!
Recently, Rolling Stone magazine sat down with all the four members of METALLICA - — guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo — at the bands headquarters in San Rafael, California. The full interviews can be found in Rolling Stone's "The Big Issue", available on newsstands now. A few excerpts follow below.
Rolling Stone: How far have you gotten into writing for a new album?
James Hetfield: "I only have 846 riffs."
Rolling Stone: Is that an exact figure?
James Hetfield: "In iTunes, you can see how many things you've got. And that does not include the soundchecks, the stuff we goof around with here. You plug in an amp. Suddenly it makes you feel good — you come up with a riff. 'Dude, did you get that?' You can't get away from being recorded here.
"But Lars, the hoarder of METALLICA, is obsessed with revisiting every stone, turning it over: 'That could be great!' Yeah, it could all be great. But I've got a new one right now. That's the Catch-22. You've got a riff from five years on tour that's amazing. Do I still feel it? Don't worry. Something better will show up."
Rolling Stone: Are there too many distractions — tours, the [Orion Music + More] festival, the [upcoming 3D] movie — that take you away from the primary business of…
James Hetfield: "Writing songs? Absolutely. This week is interviews, photo shoots, shooting videos for things. When are we going to start writing? 'We've got to rehearse the 'black' album.' I would love to sit and write without having to think of other stuff."
Rolling Stone: How much will playing [the "black" album in its entirety on METALLICA's current tour] affect your next album?
Lars Ulrich: "I've been sitting with [the songs from the 'black' album] for a month now, listening to them while I'm driving, immersing myself before we play them: 'Why did we go one key up there? Why did we repeat that thing four times instead of two?' I was thinking about it again today. There was a moment in 'Sad But True' with that half-chorus in the middle. Then it went back to the guitar solo, and then there was a little break before it goes into the third verse.
"I couldn't help thinking, 'Why was it put together like that?' Maybe we can slightly borrow that?' If you can't rip yourself off, what's the [oint? It will be interesting to see, once we take this album out to people in different countries, what we'll come back with for the writing sessions in the fall."
Rolling Stone: You do have a lot of projects that get in the way of making new music.
Lars Ulrich: "I don't want to be that band that just does record, tour; record, tour. I will say to my dying day, 'Who wouldn't want to make a record with Lou Reed?' They are adventures, uncharted territory, places where you do more than just use muscle memory. I want to get away from that model, that the sole reason for a band to exist is to just make another record."
Rolling Stone: How do you look at your long-term future? You just celebrated your 30th anniversary. Another 30 years might be optimistic.
Lars Ulrich: "I still don't feel we've challenged ourselves enough. We still talk about 'the next album.' We can do whatever we want with our music. 'We've hidden a new METALLICA CD in each ZIP code in America. Go find it!' There's nothing but options.
"Just don't mention the word 'work.' The a.m. grind, getting my three kids ready for school — that is the work part of my day. When I come in here, that's when the fun starts."
Rolling Stone: You've fallen way behind in making new music, because you're so busy with touring, the festival and the 3D movie.
Kirk Hammett: "We've known for at least two years that we have to start writing songs. It feels like I'm standing on the side of a hill: There's this big boulder at the top that I know is going to start rolling one of these days. And when it does, we won't be able to stop it. But it hasn't started rolling yet.
"It's on everybody's mind. When we finished [playing the 30th-anniversary shows] at the Fillmore [in San Francisco] last year, I thought, 'A year from now, I'm going to be 50. At this rate, does that mean I have two albums left in me? Three?' But if we run at a different rate, who knows? Five? The one thing I've learned is you can't be too prophectic in this band, because something happens, and things completely change."
Rolling Stone: How much have you written, riff-wise, for the next record?
Robert Trujillo: I have about 20 ideas that I feel really good about, whereas on 'Death Magnetic' I had one or two. But one of them ended up being 'Suicide And Redemption'. Hetfield — he's a writing machine. Kirk has over 300 ideas. There's so much stuff from the tuning-room jams, from all those years of touring. I like to think I have 20 ideas I believe in."
Rolling Stone: What's the best one so far?
Robert Trujillo: "[Grins] There's one that reminds me of something off BLACK SABBATH's 'Vol. 4'."
