DREAM THEATER's John Petrucci Featured On Guitar Player Magazine - Video Interview Available!
Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci is featured on the cover of the February 2012 issue of Guitar Player magazine. The lengthy feature includes an extended interview with Petrucci about technique, the band's NEW album 'A Dramatic Turn of Events', production, and much more. It's also accompanied by a transcription of a section of the song "Outcry," from the NEW album, and a sidebar in which Petrucci answers questions posed by students from the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. But how did Petrucci achieve musical heaven?
Petrucci was born in Long Island, New York, on July 12, 1967, and picked up the guitar at the young age of 8 simply because he wanted to go to bed later. Apparently, his older sister was allowed to go to bed later since she was practicing the piano. This backfired on Petrucci, who ended up quitting playing guitar when his parents didn't allow him to stay up late to practice the guitar. Petrucci picked up the guitar again at the age of 12 when his childhood friend and future Dream Theater keyboardist Kevin Moore invited him to join his cover band.
Once Petrucci founded Dream Theater in 1985, the band quickly became the Kings of Progressive Metal and many blame Petrucci's skills-set for this. His guitar and songwriting skills are to be reckoned with, and lets not forget that he has also produced every single Dream Theater album.
The rest is history!
