U2: Bono's Accident Affects his Future in the Band (el Accidente que Sufrió Bono Afecta su Futuro con la Banda)!

We have some very alarming news to report: U2's Bono has announced that he might no be able to play guitar ever again due to the massive injury to his arm caused by a major bicycle accident. This very crappy news was announced by Bono himself via a letter he posted on the band's website.

A few excerpts of Bono's letter follow:

On the day of my 50th birthday I received an injury because I was over indulging in exercise boxing and cycling, which was itself an overcompensation for overindulging on alcohol coming up to the big birthday. I promised myself I would be more mindful of my limits, but just four years on, it happened again - a massive injury I can't blame on anyone but myself, mainly because I blanked out on impact and have no memory of how I ended up in New York Presbyterian with my humerus bone sticking through my leather jacket. Very punk rock as injuries go.

The consequences of this freak accident are significant enough that I will have to concentrate hard to be ready for the U2 tour in fitness terms… as a result I have cancelled every public appearance and decided this missive is all the communication I can manage for the first half of 2015, beyond muttering and singing to myself of course.

I broke my hand, my shoulder, my elbow and my face but the real injury this year was to my Irish pride as it was discovered that under my tracksuit I was wearing yellow and black Lycra cycling shorts. Yes, LYCRA. This is not very rock 'n' roll.

Recovery has been more difficult than I thought... As I write this, it is not clear that I will ever play guitar again. The band have reminded me that neither they nor Western civilization are depending on this.

I personally would very much miss fingering the frets of my green Irish falcon or my (RED) Gretsch. Just for the pleasure, aside from writing tunes. But then does the Edge, or Jimmy Page, or any guitarist you know have a titanium elbow, as I do now? I'm all elbows, I am.

Jon Bon Jovi Talks About Richie Sambora's Departure From The Band

As previously reported, Jon Bon Jovi is currently touring without his guitarist Richie Sambora who allegedly is going through rehab again. Bon Jovi recently sat down with the London Evening Standard to talk about the Sambora situation:

“It’s getting more and more difficult every day to not just sit here and say something… Because all I can say is this — it’s for personal reasons. He’s been through it before, fortunately for us the same guy who filled in last time was available this time.”

He continued to snub Sambora by comparing him to U2’s The Edge, who would not be so easy to substitute.

“Life goes on, so if someone chooses not to be here… unlike if this were, God forbid, The Edge, and he for some reason couldn’t make a U2 show, [then] it would be very difficult to just step in,” he said.

“You have a choice — you either figure it out, go and grow, not only survive but thrive. Or, you say, ‘I hate my brother and I’m gonna quit the band.’”

During the interview, Bon Jovi called Justin Bieber “an a**hole” for showing up to his O2 arena concert in March 2013 two hours late.

Guitarist & Manager Of THE DOORS Talk About Ray Manzarek!

As reported earlier this week, Ray Manzarek, founding member and keyboardist of THE DOORS, passed away at the age of 74 in Rosenheim, Germany from bile duct cancer. Here is the bands official statement.

His band-mate and guitarist Robby Krieger, reflected on how Manzarek took the chance of meeting with Jim Morrison at Venice Beach in 1965 and how this lead to the formation of the band.

Manzarek, who was born in Chicago, moved to Los Angeles to study film at UCLA. While at UCLA, he met Morrison on the Westwood campus during the singers short stint at college.

“[Manzarek] was the only one at UCLA who was smart enough to know that Jim Morrison wasn’t just a jerk, like a lot of people thought. To me, that make him a genius.” – Doors guitarist Robby Krieger
After Manzarek graduated in 1965, him and Morrison met again at Venice Beach and decided to start THE DOORS. This is when they added guitar player Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore. Since the band lacked a bass player, Manzarek usually played the bass lines on his Fender Rhodes piano. Manzarek was the oldest in the band and occasionally sang as well.

“[Manzarek] was relentless in his pursuit of the vision. And you have to give Ray a lot of credit because he understood what Jim [Morrison] was and what was magic about Jim, and he just never backed down from that.” – Bill Siddons, former manager for The Doors

In lieu of flowers, please make a memoriam donation in Ray Manzarek's name at www.standup2cancer.org

Rock In Peace Mr. Manzarek, your music will surely live forever!

Heavy Music history was written on Thursday, May 2 at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles, CA. Not only did the Revolver Golden Gods Awards welcome the elite of the music we all love, but the energy inside the sold out venue was incomparable. Here is a scoop of who won what, and who performed with whom.

Prior to the event we took over the Black Carpet and got harassed by SLIPKNOT's Shawn "Clown" Crahan (#3) and Chris Fehn (#6)! During their hostile takeover of the Horns Up Rocks microphone, the two maniacs announced the bands plans for 2014 and discussed the Golden Gods Awards. They also paid tribute to Jeff Hanneman and Chi Cheng (both men recently passed away).

The entire event was dedicated to SLAYER's Jeff Hanneman, who passed away recently from liver failure. Details HERE!

Drama Alert: Richie Sambora Leaves BON JOVI Due To Monetary Differences

This past Wednesday, April 3, Jon Bon Jovi released a statement saying, "Due to personal issues, Richie Sambora will not be performing on this upcoming leg. All shows will go on as scheduled". This is the first time that Bon Jovi performs without Richie Sambora on guitar, and as of right now it doesn't seem like Sambora will be back on board anytime soon.

According to TMZ, those "personal issues" have to do with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora "fighting over money."

"Sources directly connected to Bon Jovi tell TMZ that tensions between Jon and Richie have been running high for years and it's finally erupted," reports the website. "One source tells us, 'It's a classic Jagger/Richards blowup."

The site adds that part of the problem is that "Jon constantly belittles Richie."

In September, Sambora told The Hollywood Reporter:

"Jon’s the leader, and there are no bones about that — and no hard feelings. Everyone has a specific role in the caste system of what this band is, and that’s why it has lasted for 30 years."

But it appears all is not well behind the current concert curtain, as JBJ told the crowd Tuesday in Calgary: "I had two choices: pack up and go home or give you everything I got... Richie Sambora won't be performing for a while. If there's ever a night I need you, it's tonight, Calgary!"

As of right now, the bands hasn't announced a temporary replacement for Sambora.

31 Years Since The Heavy Music World Lost RANDY RHOADS - Tribute Available!

Today (March 19), marks the 31st death anniversary of legendary Heavy Metal guitarist RANDY RHOADS. His tragic death is still mourned by the Heavy Music world. On March 19, 1982, RHOADS went on a plane ride around Leesburg, Florida, on board a small plane around while on tour with Ozzy when all of a sudden the pilot lost control and the plane clipped into the side of Ozzy's tour bus. Next thing you know, the plane crashed into a mansion garage. RHOADS died immediately from the impact! He was only 25 years old.

RHOADS was born on December 6, 1956 at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California. He was the youngest of three children. His older brother, Doug, is a drummer and vocalist who also arrange classical compositions, who goes by the name of Kelle Rhoads. His sister's name is Kathy.

RHOADS can be blamed for being not a only a phenomenal musician, but also a true innovator when it came to music writing. His guitar skills with early Quiet Riot and obviously with Ozzy Osbourne, revolutionized music forever. His angelic face, blonde hair, and his amazing personality, will be remembered forever! To this very day his musical style and songwriting skills remain unmatched. RHOADS has influenced thousands of musicians worldwide, some of this musicians are: the late great Dimebag Darrell Abbott (Pantera & Damageplan), Zakk Wylde from Black Label Society, and many more!

Listen To ANTHRAX's Cover Of BOSTON's "Smokin"!

'Anthems', Anthrax's long-awaited, eight-track EP that pays tribute to the classic songs by some of Anthrax's favorite bands from the 1970s, will be released in North America on March 19 (MRI/Megaforce), and on March 22 in Europe (Nuclear Blast). The track listing for 'Anthems' features Rush's "Anthem," Thin Lizzy's "Jailbreak," "TNT" by AC/DC, Boston's "Smokin'," "Big Eyes" by Cheap Trick, Journey's "Keep on Runnin," as well as the album version and a special remix of Anthrax's "Crawl" from the band's critically-acclaimed 2011 album 'Worship Music'.

Right now, you can crank Anthrax's cover of BOSTON's song "Smokin":

The EP will be available on CD as well as digitally via iTunes and other online retailers. In addition to the cover art for 'Anthems', Benante and artist Stephen Thompson have subtly redesigned each track's original album cover art to "Anthrax" it. The 'Anthems' EP will first be housed in one of the "re-imagined" digipak covers, and then inserted inside the main CD cover sleeve. The main cover sleeve has been designed in such a way so fans will be able to see which one of the six "re-imagined" covers is inside.

'Anthems' was produced by Anthrax, Jay Ruston and the bands former guitarist Rob Caggiano, and recorded for the most part throughout 2012 literally all over the world: at Benante's home studio, in Ruston's New York studio, on the band's tour bus while on last summer's Mayhem Tour, in hotel rooms, and backstage at their Berlin show last December.

Don't forget that ANTHRAX - Belladonna/vocals, Benante/drums, Scott Ian/guitar and Frank Bello/bass - will hit the road in support 'Anthems' on February 16 with dates in India and Australia, and then return to North America to headline the Metal Alliance Tour that kicks off March 22 in California. For all of these dates, Anthrax will be joined by Shadows Fall guitarist Jon Donais.

Once again, ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante is sitting out during his bands live performances. It has been confirmed that Benante did not travel with the band due to personal issues, Jon Dette (former SLAYER drummer) is replacing Benante during ANTHRAX's Australian tour. "Charlie is dealing with personal issues right now and can't leave the country", commented Scott Ian. "He's really bummed about not being able to head down there."

Additionally, the band will not be performing with guitarist Rob Caggiano, who left the band to join VOLBEAT (More info HERE)! He was temporarily replaced by Jon Donais from SHADOWS FALL.

Benante is expected to be back with ANTHRAX during this year's Metal Alliance tour, which they will be headlining (tour dates below).

ANTHRAX's Charlie Benante Talks About Metal Alliance Tour & NEW Covers EP 'Anthems'!

Additionally, ANTHRAX will be headlining this year's Metal Alliance Tour. The band will be performing their classic 'Among The Living' in its entirety. Our friends over at Metal Assault conducted an interview with Charlie Benante about 'Anthems' and about Metal Alliance 2013! A few excerpts of the interview follow:

What are you up to these days, man? Just doing press for the tour?

Yeah, pretty much. And I’m also doing some artwork for t-shirts and stuff like that too.

That’s cool. So, you have this Metal Alliance Tour coming up which should be awesome, looking at that lineup.

Oh yeah. For me, going out and playing this Among The Living record, which is one of our biggest records, playing that in its entirety is a little bit of a challenge but we’re going to do it!

Usually you’ve been playing at least three songs off of that album in your set anyway, but this time you’re playing the whole thing. How much of a challenge is it actually, and how much did you have to prepare to play these songs?

I’ve been actually preparing for it, because one of the songs we haven’t really played it live. So you have to relearn how to play it and see what type of approach you’re going to put on the song too, because it’s a very, very fast song. So, I have to kind of pace myself, and it’s a challenge but I’m sure I’ll pull it off.

You’re going to play club venues across North America, which I think is perfect for Anthrax even though you play bigger venues when opening for other bands. The vibe is that much better.

I guess we just want to go and sell these places out, and basically see how that goes. Honestly, I don’t care where we play (laughs).

Coming to this new release of yours which is coming out in a couple of weeks, the ‘Anthems’ EP which has six covers, the Worship Music track ‘Crawl’ and its remix version too. How did that come about? I think a few members of Anthrax have been talking about it for a few months, so is it something that’s been in the works for a while?

What happened was, we would always record B-sides and stuff, and we had a bunch of them that were recorded musically but we didn’t really finish them. Then we were talking, and I said we should really do something with these and may be do a bit more. So I mentioned Rush, and ‘Anthem’ was the song that came out. Then we were talking about more songs and the Journey song came out. So I said I’m going to record these, do the drums and everything, and then I’ll put a scratch guitar part on it and send it. So I sent it to Scott and then Frankie got it and Joey got it, and then we just finished all the stuff that way. We were so happy with the way it was turing out that I was like, ‘Wow, I bet our fans would really like to hear this!’ And that’s how it happened. But we wanted to keep it as an EP and not a full record because we wanted to have it priced very well, you know? I mean, originally I jokingly said let’s charge $6.66, but iTunes wouldn’t do it.

Read the entire interview HERE

As previously reported HERE, after a long and successful run as guitarist for the legendary Thrash Metal act Anthrax, Rob Caggiano has decided that it's time to move on and focus on his other passion: producing records for the time being.

The dates for the Metal Alliance tour are as follows (General-admission tickets are available now at this link):

KING DIAMOND To Appear On The NEW VOLBEAT Album?

Denmark's VOLBEAT has recorded an album that seamlessly brings together all of the band's influences and reshapes them into something gleaming and NEW. Set to be released on April 9 all over the world, 'Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies' is a record that’s rich with stories and characters woven throughout its lyrics.  Some are real – like the noble lady outlaw Pearl Hart, who held up a stagecoach to buy medicine for her dying mother, or Lola Montez, the erotic dancer with her infamous ‘Spider Dance,’ or Black Bart, the gentleman highwayman who wrote poems for the people he robbed. Others are entirely fictional. "The Nameless One" is a cautionary tale of dabbling in the dark arts, featuring the mysterious and sinister character of the title.  Elsewhere, "Room 24" was inspired by a terrifying experience in a hotel room somewhere in the heart of America.

"Room 24" features a massive coup for VOLBEAT with the guest appearance from KING DIAMOND, the legendary front man of Danish Metal pioneers Mercyful Fate, and one of Poulsen’s  musical idols. Poulsen commented:

"I’m a huge fan of Mercyful Fate and King Diamond. Having King on the record is a huge privilege. Normally, it’s not something he does. He wrote his own lines, and it is half my lyrics and half his. It’s a weird, scary story, and he’s the perfect person for it."

Get stoked for the NEW VOLBEAT! "Wanna get a sneak peak of the album recording session and listen to new music? Check out this trailer on the brand NEW Volbeat homepage! So sign in, turn up & freak out!" Access the video at this link:

DEATH TO ALL Tour Singer/Guitarist Announced!

The "Death To All Tour" (presented by Perseverance Holdings Ltd.) is returning this year in benefit of Sweet Relief. Once again, the short tour will feature a handful of DEATH All-Starts, as well as various special guests. This tour is to celebrate the life and music of Chuck Schuldiner, as well as to raise awareness of Sweet Relief Musicians Fund — a charity that provides financial assistance to career musicians faced with illness, disability or age-related problems.

Today, the singer for the DEATH TO ALL TOUR has been reveled. As you probably know, Matt Harvey is on tour with Exhumed, Charles Elliott has a heavy workload at that time, and Steffen Kummerer has commitments keeping him in Europe. This is why Max Phelps was an easy decision - because he is a huge DEATH fan and he is a killer guitar player & vocalist. Nuff said.

Here are the confirmed tour dates, as you can see here there are no plans to have the DEATH tribute event featured at Orion Music + More:

April 13 - West Hollywood, CA - House Of Blues
April 15 - Denver, CO - Gothic Theatre
April 18 - Detroit, MI - St. Andrew’s Hall
April 19 - Cleveland, OH - House of Blues
April 20 - Cincinnati, OH - Bogart’s
April 21 - Chicago, IL - House of Blues
April 23 - Montreal, QC - Club Soda
April 24 - New York, NY - Irving Plaza
April 25 - Philadelphia, PA - Theater Of Living Arts
April 26 - Silver Springs, MD - The Fillmore
April 27 - Worcester, MA - Palladium
April 28 - Toronto, ON - Phoenix Concert Theatre
April 29 - Mexico City, MEX - Circo Volador

Tickets are available HERE.

The first leg of the trek will feature the three surviving members of DEATH's "Human" lineup (guitarist Paul Masvidal, bassist Steve DiGiorgio and drummer Sean Reinert) performing material from the group's first four albums. A vocalist for the shows has yet to be announced.
