Heavy Music Demolishes the Billboard Charts with Releases by Charred Walls Of The Damned, Skeletonwitch, Five Finger Death Punch & Evanescence!

This week Heavy Music was very well represented on the Billboard Charts. Last week someone asked us if the Billboard Charts are still relevant? Absolutely! Why? Well, it not only helps Record Labels to see where there artists are standing compared to other similar artists/competitors, but it also helps bands to be placed on bigger and better tours. Here are the hard hitters in Heavy Music this week!

1) Evanescence's self-titled third major label album sold 127,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart.

2) "American Capitalist", the third album from Las Vegas, Nevada-based Metallers Five Finger Death Punch, sold 91,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 3 on The Billboard 200 chart.

3) "Cold Winds On Timeless Days", the sophomore album from Charred Walls Of The Damned — the project led by acclaimed metal drummer Richard Christy (Iced Earth, Death, Leash Law, Control Denied, Burning Inside) — sold around 1,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at No. 14 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

4) "Forever Abomination", the new album from Athens, Ohio's Skeletonwitch, sold 3,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 153 on The Billboard 200 chart.

'Unto the Locust' - Highest Debut in Machine Head's History on Billboard Top 200!

On Tuesday, September 27, 2011, Machine Head released their seventh studio album entitled "Unto The Locust" via Roadrunner Records. After the success of "The Blackening", Machine Head decided that they were going to close the door on that album, and create something fresh sounding. This is exactly what the band accomplished! Once again Machine has proven their elite status amongst today’s massive array of Heavy Metal artists.

More than doubling on the #54 Billboard Top 200 debut chart position of the band’s 2007 Grammy-nominated release, "The Blackening", Machine Head have topped themselves again with a remarkable #22 Billboard Top 200 chart debut for their new album, "Unto The Locust", with over 17,000 albums scanned.

The new Machine Head album debuts at #4 on the Hard Music chart and the Current Hard Music chart, as well as the top internet chart at #26. The album came in at #19 on the overall digital albums chart with nearly 6,000 albums sold digitally, 35% of the overall scan. Even more impressive, this is the third consecutive album to show at least a 20% increase in sales over the previous release; a virtually unprecedented feat for any band or artist, let alone a Metal band in 2011. To date the band has sold a staggering 2.4 million albums worldwide.

"Unto The Locust" is seeing amazing charting numbers overseas as well. The album charted at #5 on the German charts, #6 on the Austrian charts, #10 in Australia and Switzerland, #13 on the French charts, #18 on the Japanese charts, #19 on the New Zealand charts, #22 on the Belgian charts, #28 in Norway, and #82 on the United Kingdom charts (the album release in the United Kingdom was via the Metal Hammer fan pack, which does not counted towards UK chart numbers. The #82 chart number solely represents digital sales).

We recently visited the Roadrunner Records headquarters in New York City and had the chance to interview Machine Head's front-man Robb Flynn about 'Unto The Locust'. We also talked to Flynn about the bands recent Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival experience. Check it out!

Anthrax's 'Worship Music' Debuts at #12 on the Billboard Charts!

Legendary Thrash Metal band Anthrax, released their tenth studio entitled 'Worship Music' on Tuesday, September 13 via Megaforce. The very next day the band performed at the 'Big Four' Concert at Yankee Stadium. Today, it was announced that Anthrax's first studio album in eight years and its first with vocalist Joey Belladonna since 1990's Persistence of Time, blasted onto next week's Billboard Top 200 Albums chart at #12, the band's highest chart debut in two decades, and second-highest in its career, selling 28,500 copies.

And if that's not enough, 'Worship Music' debuted at #4 on Billboard's Hard Rock Chart, #3 on the Hard Music Core Chart, and #2 at both the Indie and Indie Core Stores charts.

"I am most proud of our fans who came out and gave us the amazing support they did," said Anthrax's Charlie Benante. "To have our record debut at #12 is a great accomplishment."

Added the band's Scott Ian, "I'm absolutely thrilled with the fact that our Anthrax Army came out in force this week to show the world that good music matters. Thank you to all our friends, old and new! It's a privilege to do this for you."

While the recording of 'Worship Music' was challenging and at some times difficult, it was at the core of an extraordinary experience for a band that had questioned its very future. Anthrax's turning point took place in 2009 at a Cleveland hotel bar with Metallica's Lars Ulrich when he first brought up the idea of The Big Four. That led to Anthrax's decision to get Belladonna back in the band on a permanent basis, and to the complete refashioning of the previously-recorded tracks for 'Worship Music' with Belladonna's inimitable vocal stamp. Pre-release reviews of 'Worship Music' hailed the album as not only a career-best for Anthrax, but "the Metal Album of the year," and last week's New York homecoming concert at Yankee Stadium as one of the original architects of speed and Thrash Metal with Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth - The Big Four - only added to Anthrax's remarkable renewal.

(sic)nesses: RATED SIC

When we heard that Slipknot were headlining the Download Festival in 2009, we knew it was going to be an epic performance. Not only is Slipknot known for outperforming every single band they have played with in the last 10 years, but the UK was the first country outside of the US that opened their arms to welcome the (sic)ness that Slipknot represents. Fortunately for those who couldn't make it to their show at Donington England, there was amazing coverage produced by the team at Download Festival for a historic web-cast. This is were Slipknot chose most of the footage for their DVD titled (sic)nesses.

When it comes to visual representation, there are very few bands that capture the vibe and chaos of a concert, the way Slipknot does. As always Shawn Crahan (AKA Clown) was involved in the production of the DVD and made sure that every single moment captured, truly gave justice to the craft that made Slipknot recognized by millions of fans worldwide.

From the moment you put the DVD in your system, your eyes will be glued to the screen and scared from the insanity that Slipknot represents. Not only does the DVD feature their entire performance shot on stunning HD quality, but it also features a documentary that was directed by Shawn Crahan (AKA Clown). This documentary shows Slipknot like never before, and proves that the music always comes first for the 9, that are now 8 (bassist Paul Gray passed away earlier this year). Do your eyes and ears a favor, and check (sic)nesses out. \m/

SLIPKNOT: #1 (sic)nesses

Slipknot has made history yet again! Their brand new DVD titled (sic)nesses, went number 1 on the Billboard DVD Charts. The DVD was recorded in June of 2009 at their historic performance at the Download Festival in the UK, in front of 80,000 maggots. Slipknot beat releases such as “The 25th Anniversary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Concerts” DVD, which features U2, Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Joel, Black Eyed Peas and many other hit-makers. This is the third time in history that Slipknot hit the number spot in the Billboard Charts. Their 1999 release titled "Welcome to Our Neighbourhood", and their 2008 latest release "All Hope Is Gone" both hit the number 1 spot.

The DVD was produced by Shawn Crahan, most commonly known as the Clown. Here is what he had to say about this amazing accomplishment:

“(sic)nesses was one of the single hardest pieces of art for us to complete, given the circumstances,” Slipknot’s M. Shawn Crahan AKA Clown, who is the architect of (sic)nesses, said. “It’s a testament to our evolution and proof of accomplishing exactly what we set out to do over 10 years ago. We will never be the same. You will never be the same. Here’s to the future and our continuing evolution.”

(sic)nesses' was shown to thousands of fans nationwide at various movie theaters. The screening here in New York City, was attended by Clown himself, and saw fans losing their minds and moshing in the aisles during the presentation. (sic)nesses is a demonstration of one of the greatest bands of 21st century at the top of their game. It is a global phenomenon, debuting in the #1 slot in the UK, Australia and Finland. It also landed in the Top 5 in Germany, Denmark, France and Belgium and in the Top 10 in Italy and Spain. Slipknot is definitely one of the best Heavy Metal bands in history!

This is the DVD trailer:

This is an interview that Artist Direct held with James Root (#4)

The DVD features the band tearing up the stage at Download 2009, and also features a 45 minute behind the scenes documentary created by Clown.
