SLIPKNOT Is Ready To Get Back On Top In 2014; Corey Taylor Is Finally Ready!

Up until now, the musical future of SLIPKNOT was very opaque. Today (May 29), we have good news regarding the future of the band! Corey Taylor is ready to rejoin the "KNOT" and to start jamming with the rest of the band. As you probably know, the rest of the band has been waiting for Taylor to get back on board the SLIPKNOT machine.

During a recent interview with the Pulse of Radio, Taylor said that the band is likely to return to the studio next year.

"I know everybody is pretty keen on getting together and seeing what happens next year, so I mean, if it takes us a year to write an album, so be it," he said. "The main goal is to just get us in the room and just see what happens, you know. If we can get past that first day, I think it'll come together. Now that we're all kind of in better places in our lives and whatnot, it's making it a little easier to be excited about it again. It's just starting to feel like it's time."

We recently chatted with 3/8th's of SLIPKNOT about the future of the band. Watch these interviews below.

SLIPKNOT's "Clown" & Chris Fehn: Bands Plans For 2014, Jeff Hanneman's Legacy & Golden Gods V!

Heavy Music history was written on Thursday, May 2 at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles, CA. Not only did the Revolver Golden Gods Awards welcome the elite of the music we all love, but the energy inside the sold out venue was incomparable. Here is a scoop of who won what, and who performed with whom.

Prior to the event we took over the Black Carpet and got harassed by SLIPKNOT's Shawn "Clown" Crahan (#3) and Chris Fehn (#6)! During their hostile takeover of the Horns Up Rocks microphone, the two maniacs announced the bands plans for 2014 and discussed the Golden Gods Awards. They also paid tribute to Jeff Hanneman and Chi Cheng (both men recently passed away).

The entire event was dedicated to SLAYER's Jeff Hanneman, who passed away recently from liver failure. Details HERE!

"Clown" on Paul Gray's Doctor Over-Medicating His Former Bandmate: "Hopefully justice will be served"

Yesterday we reported that DesMoinesRegister.com is claiming that Doctor Daniel Baldi (a Des Moines physician) has been charged with eight counts of involuntary manslaughter for allegedly prescribing large amounts of narcotic painkillers to patients who later died of overdoses. One of his patients was the late great Paul Gray from SLIPKNOT!

After hearing about this shocking twist of events, SLIPKNOT's own Shawn "Clown" Crahan spoke with DesMoinesRegister.com. This is what he had to say about this NEW piece of evidence regarding the death of his former bandmate:

"None of it is going to bring back our brother Paul. This epidemic of this sort of activity is becoming more and more … evident. It truly is becoming a problem amongst people. And it trickles all the way down to the youth. And awareness needs to be brought about."

Crahan made it clear that he was referring to "not only substance abuse but the ability to acquire substances, to get chemicals and the efficiency of it."

"Hopefully justice will be served," he said.

Doctor Daniel Baldi, who helped run an Iowa Health System pain clinic, is accused of "unintentionally causing the death of Paul Gray by the commission of an act likely to cause death or serious injury, to-wit, continually [writing] high-dose prescription narcotics to a known drug addict from [December 27, 2005] until his death," according to charging documents released at the doctor's court hearing today.

The doctor's lawyer, Guy Cook, told DesMoinesRegister.com his client plans to vigorously fight the charges.

"It is unprecedented to turn unfortunate deaths or medical results into a crime against a doctor," the lawyer said. "Unexpected deaths can occur in severe, chronic pain patients, unrelated to medical treatment. This is especially true with patients who are drug addicts or drug abusers."

On May 24, 2010, Paul Dedrick Gray was found dead today by a hotel worker at a hotel in Urbandale hotel room in Iowa. Paul died from an accidental overdose of morphine and fentanyl, and had also shown signs of "significant heart disease".

CLOWN Explains How The Members Of SLIPKNOT Got Numbered!

Have you ever wondered who the members of SLIPKNOT got their numbers and why the hell they numbered each other? Well, recently CityBeat.com chatted with Shawn "Clown" Crahan about all things SLIPKNOT and this is what he had to say about the numbering system:

"The numbers kind of just fell into place," says Clown. "It’s kind of a weird thing. Back when we started we were going to wear a mask and I started wearing coveralls so we all started wearing coveralls, then there were so many of us, we put our bar code on the back. Then we wanted numbers—I wanted numbers. It was kind of ironic, because everyone fell into a number. I wasn’t going to tolerate any other number than six. Like if someone was going to fight me for it, I was going to fight to the death for it, but nobody wanted it. Joey wanted to be number one, Paul wanted to be number two, the original guitar player, and the other drummer three. Mick, he is like 'I have to have seven. Fuck everyone. It’s my lucky number.' Corey was like, 'I want eight, infinity.' When Sid joined the band, 'I am not a number. I am zero. I am filth.' It was kind of magical, honestly. The masks were more of a representation of what you wanted to present as yourself. It was one’s finding oneself, but the numbers were almost assigned to us subconsciously."

SLIPKNOT & SLAYER Fans Cause 'Mayhem' At Darien Lake Leading To 21 Arrests Or Citations!

What a summer! First LAMB OF GOD's Randy Blythe is arrested in the Czech Republic on manslaughter charges, then Harley Flanagan (former bassist from the CRO MAGS) stabs some of the current band members in New York City, and just this week someone threatened to kill Jonny Davy from JOB FOR A COWBOY at the Tampa, Florida stop of this year's "Summer Slaughter Tour" causing major delays.

Yesterday (August 1), according to The Batavian, 21 people were arrested or cited during the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival concert at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center in Darien Center, New York. Of the four people arrested, a 49-year-old man and a 27-year-old male were charged with disorderly conduct after allegedly engaging in a fight in the parking lot; a 23-year-old man was charged with trespass after allegedly climbing a light pole inside the concert venue; and a 51-year-old male was charged with DWI and Driving with more than .08 BAC after allegedly driving in the parking lot intoxicated. Seven people were charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and 10 others were issued citations for alleged consumption/possession of alcohol under age 21.

Regarding the lower number of underage drinking citations, Deputy Chief Gordon Dibble said SLIPKNOT and SLAYER — who are headlining this year's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival — draw a slightly older crowd than, say, Toby Keith. "We still went out looking for violations, we just didn't find too many," Dibble said.

We suggest you all calm down, otherwise we will all be punished by having less shows in the next few years! Cool? Carry on!

Corey Taylor Talks About Jim Root: "When he got back home, he had a 102° temperature, went to the clinic and found out his appendix burst two and a half weeks ago."

Recently, Corey Taylor was interviewed by the Canadian website Jam! Some of the subjects covered during the interview had to do with Slipknot's current participation at the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, and the brand NEW compilation 'Antennas to Hell' (available now). We also had some words of praise for guitarist Jim Root, who was recently treated for a burst appendix that forced him to miss the first few dates of the Mayhem Fest.

"Dude, he’s out of his mind. We were actually finishing the guitars on the NEW Stone Sour album when it happened. He was complaining about a pain in his side. When he got back home, he had a 102° temperature, went to the clinic and found out his appendix burst two and a half weeks ago. The fact that he was still walking and talking is crazy."

About 'Antennas to Hell': "Honestly, in a weird way, it’s very gratifying. You can tell where we came from, and where we got to with 'All Hope is Gone'. But the beautiful thing is that the essence is still there. We never forgot why we loved making music. We never forgot that frenetic energy that we invariably put into everything we do, and that sense of urgency that never left us. I truly hope it never does."

SLIPKNOT Share 7 Super Gross Stories Compiled Throughout The Years!

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of SLIPKNOT's groundbreaking album 'Iowa' (double-CD reissue available now via Roadrunner Records), the great folks over at Spin.com talked to some of the members of SLIPKNOT and gathered seven super gross stories that might make you gag!

7. The One With The Fans Who Maybe Should Wash More

Shawn "Clown" Crahan, #6: "There's one thing that I think is pretty gross but I don't want it to be demeaning to anybody. I started wearing surgical gloves at in-stores. I would shake hands with everyone, of course. But I would look at the line and see folks rubbing their hands on their nose, looking like they hadn't showered in four days. I mean, I'll shake their hand, but when you do an in-store for 4,000 people, you're like, 'I just got exposed to Cincinnati.' The other band members thoughts I was an asshole, but I remember after one in-store, I showed them the palm of the glove and it was black. Not just a little dirt, but pitch black."

6. The One Where Sid Broke Both of His Heels

Corey Taylor, #8: "Oh, yeah, Sid broke both of his[heels] on the first night of the Mayhem Festival (in the 2008 version). He was in so much pain he was having a hard time doing his parts."

Sid Wilson, #0: "Yep, both my heels at the beginning of a show. I was jumping over Paul [Gray, bassist], done it a million times, and for some reason this time I was a little far behind my self and I had on all 30, 40 pounds of leather and chains, kind of a Road Warrior thing. I had done the jump in dress shoes lots of times. I was cocky and I didn't look at the arena first. So I jumped and smashed into my heels and broke both of them. Tremendous amount of pain. I finished the show, but I did the rest of the tour in a wheelchair. Some nights I'd end up crawling around on stage, dragging my body around. I looked like a guy from Hellraiser."

5. The One at the Viper Room:

Taylor: "While we were recording 'Iowa', I was nearly banned for life from the Rainbow Bar & Grill on the Sunset Strip, where the clientele has not changed in 30 years. I saw one of my heroes there, a guy I just worshiped, and he was being really unpleasant. And that really bummed me out and I got wasted. In my drunken anger, I started hurling shot glasses at him. I was asked to leave and the owner the next day called my manager and said, 'If he ever pulls that again, he's banned for life.'

"So I'm already hammered and we go taking off down Sunset, we're jumping parking meters and we're in front of the Viper Room and my buddy looks at me and says, 'I bet you could put your foot right through that.' So I kicked that plate glass window, wearing shorts. It shatters and I turn around and there is a cop car sitting right at the red light. I didn't even try to run, I just walked over and put my hands on the hood. They were very cool about it, they very politely handcuffed me and sat me on the curb right outside the Viper Room.

"People are coming out and laughing at me. I just start spitting at them and cursing them. The cops throw me in the back of the cop car and I just passed out in the back seat. Next thing I know I'm sitting in a chair at the station. And the station gets a call from the cops on the scene. They said, the owners are here and if I paid for the damage they wouldn't press charges. So we go back to the Viper Room. And I just looked like a lump of shit at that point, and I had just enough money to pay for the damage. I come stumbling across the street towards the owners with a fist full of the grossest money you have ever seen. It was like you put $500 in your pocket and worked out all day. I remember just putting this revolting money into one of their hands and I collapsed in my friend's car. The next thing I know, I wake up in my hotel, basically naked, some girl in my bed, no idea who it was and there's porn on the TV. "

4. The One With the Pee:

Taylor: "I can tell you that a person in the band, won't tell you which one, was filmed in England on the floor of a shower area, having two chicks piss on him. It was definitely the strangest threesome ever. And it just fucking shows you how disturbed this band is that everyone was there, crew and band alike. It was definitely a very strange event."

3. The One With the Dead Bird:

Wilson: "We had a dead bird in a jar. Clown kept it in there for a long time. We'd bring it out on stage and take big deep breaths out of it, see what death smelled like, have that inside you, gets you in that dark place. It would make you throw up immediately, vomit in your mask. He had it in there for so long it started getting this gelatinous liquid in the jar as it decayed. One particular show, early on in our career, when the bird was at that stage, Clown huffed it, I huffed it, I threw up immediately. But the O.G. Maggots, before we made it big, they were nuts. They were saying, 'Let us smell it.' So we put the jar down there and they start pulling out this stuff and eating it! I think it was more disturbing for us. The kids were sicker than we were. They always had something to prove."

2. The One With the Pig Heart:

Crahan: "In the early days, I would get a lot of dead birds, alot of dead shit in jars, mainly birds, of course. But there was one girl on the east coast who brought me a cow heart or a pig heart. I just remember her coming up and, like, smacking me in the head and throwing this heart down and being like, 'Can you sign this?' "

1. The One With the Decaying Human Femur:

Crahan: "This is the craziest thing that ever happened and it kinda bothered me for a while. We were in a foreign country, I won't say which one to protect this girl's identity. She was living it like we were living it. Her clothes looked like sewed that shit up herself, really weird material, but it was what she loved.

"She gave me a human femur bone that she had written 'People = Shit' on it. It wasn't a normal clean, bleached bone. It was brown and dirty and she had clearly gotten it from a grave. The country where we were, it was very easy to do. This bone had sand and dust on it and in blue ball point pen right in the middle, 'People = Shit.' I mean, I believe the soul immediately goes when we died and even thought the body is just a shell, I still want to have respect for those remains. But if there's one thing we are saying in Slipknot, it's 'Don't ever judge me.' So I sat her down and had a very personal talk with her. She was very deep into our thought processes and really in love with our idea, so in love that she went to these realms. So there was a person [from whom the bone was taken] that had no idea they were going to be brought into our thought process. That's how circumstantial and random life is."

SLIPKNOT Premiere Chaotic "Broadcast From Hell"; Shawn Crahan Talks About 'Antennas To Hell'!

Slipknot is like no other band the Rock scene has ever encountered and to celebrate two decades of game-changing existence, the band will release 'Antennas to Hell', a "best of" collection documenting its inimitable career, on July 24. The album is scheduled to be released via Roadrunner Records while the band is spending its summer as the main attraction of the 2012 edition of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, as well as curating and headlining the inaugural year of  their very own festival, Knotfest. Click here for all the details!

'Antennas to Hell' will feature two bonus discs: a live CD of the band's 2009 Download Festival performance and a 10-part "Broadcast from Hell" video series created by Crahan. Nine of the clips highlight each band member, and the tenth, which you can watch exclusively here, documents them all together. "I took two songs and I grabbed elements, made a remix and I put it under the montage," Crahan explains. "The remix does not match up with the montage. It's supposed to be chaotic and fucking crazy ... I did not want to remix songs that are held as God to people. We hold those songs as sacred."

Members of MACHINE HEAD, SLIPKNOT, KORN & DREAM THEATER Talk About Being A Father While Being In An Active Band!

In honor of Father's Day, which is taking place tomorrow (Sunday, June 17), the great folks over at Roadrunner Records decided to reach out to some of their artists who are themselves parents, and ask them how they balance family life with the sacrifices necessary to be in an active touring Rock band—long stretches of time spent apart from wives and kids, the need for isolation to let creativity flow, and more. Here are the answers they got back.

Max Cavalera, Soulfly/Cavalera Conspiracy:

"My kids and my music have crossed paths from the beginning. I always involved my kids with music any chance I had. Richie played guitar at the Nailbomb show in Holland in front of 120,000 people. Zyon's heartbeat opened Sepultura's Chaos A.D. record. Igor's hands and mine are together in the photo shoot I did for Soulfly 1. Our hands hold the CD in the CD case and on "Primitive," Igor says "Tchoo Tchoo" before the song "Mulambo." All that connection somehow inspired them to create their own music. Richie sings for Incite, and Zyon and Igor are together in Lody Kong. We were on tour in America and will be back for another Maximum Cavalera Tour. Happy Father's Day to all!"

M. Shawn "Clown" Crahan, Slipknot:

"I will be married 20 years this month. I have four children: my oldest, a girl, Alexandria, 21 years of age; oldest boy, Gage, age 18; Gabrielle, 15; Simon, eight years old. I was married before I started the band with Paul [Gray], so I am blessed. I have yin and yang, the best of both worlds. I have my dream—I get to perform music, I get to take photos, I create art pieces, I direct, I produce, I do it all ‘cause I’m a Renaissance guy, and I do it to the fullest. Before my dad died, he said, 'You’re the only person in my entire life that I’ve heard say wanted to do something'—’cause I’m his son, he remembered the first time I told him what I wanted to do, and then he came to a show with 30,000 people and looking out, said 'You did it.' I’m an only child, so I always wanted a family, and I have two girls and two boys, the best of both worlds two times over, and I have my soul mate Chantel, we’ve been happily married for 20 years coming up June 26, and the way I balance it is easy. One is not the other. You treat one with ultimate respect, and you treat the other with ultimate respect. There’s that fine line between, where they can mingle, so the family can come out on the road, whatever. But in this business, even though it’s my dream, my family comes first. I wanted my dream so I could put a roof over my family’s head. So I could have insurance. I work hard at my dream and give it everything I have so I can have my family world, which is what I wanted more than anything. and my Slipknot family is family too, but they would even tell you it can’t be equal, because you’re talking about my wife and my children. I give them everything I am first and foremost, and because I do that, I’m allowed to continue to be the best I can be in Slipknot."

Robb Flynn, Machine Head:

"Being a dad is the greatest gift that has come into my life, and something I try every day to get better at. It's the single hardest job I've ever had, and it's twice as hard for my wife Genevra, who for months at a time is basically a single mom with financial support from me who raises our two sons, Zander and Wyatt. Yes, being in a touring metal band and balancing fatherhood is a challenge in so many ways that I wouldn't have expected.  It can be amazing, inspiring, depressing, heartbreaking, hilarious, life-afffirming, and at its best, makes me a kid again.

"For over 23 years straight now, I've been on tour. I've never retired, gone on hiatus, took five years off to recharge. Nope, since I was a teenager I've been on tour, and Machine Head is a band that tours hard, harder than 90% of the metal, rock, or pop acts/bands out there. James Brown, eat your heart out. The shortest tour we've done? 16 months. The longest? 3 years and 1 month. Granted, there were breaks in between tours, some as long as 2 1/2 months, others as short as a week. The flip side is that when I'm home writing a record, I can be home for a year, straight spending a lot of undivided time with them. But when I'm touring a record, another tour is always on the horizon, and for both Zander and Wyatt, that looming feeling that Daddy is going away soon is tough.

"There's the depressing parts: Often times, the week before a tour is the hardest because the boys begin to shut down emotionally, or act out. It's a coping mechanism, it allows them to deal with the situation they are about to face. They don't understand that and certainly don't rationalize that. I've had my five-year-old, Wyatt, tell me, "he hates my job, he hates my band, and he hates how it takes me away from him." My eight-year-old, Zander, didn't speak to me via Skype for eight weeks on a 10-week Slipknot tour, because he was mad at me for being gone. It was brutally hard. They miss me, and I miss them.

"I've missed many things too: I've missed both of their first steps, both their first teeth, both their first words, plays, recitals, school functions, soccer games, baseball games, wrestling classes, Tae Kwon Do classes, basketball camps, camping trips. I've missed big chunks of their lives.

"And then there's the hilarious and absurd parts of being a heavy metal dad: We played the Download Festival in England in 2007 when Zander was three, and Wyatt was six months old. I flew home the day after, and when I walked in the door at three in the afternoon, my wife handed the kids over and said "your turn," and walked out the door. Zander proceeded to make seven poopy diapers that day. SEVEN POOPY DIAPERS!!! 24 hours ago, I was a Metal God commanding 65,000 people into a frenzy that Kerrang! magazine said "blew Slayer away," and now I'm changing seven poopy diapers! Ah, fatherhood, it has a good way of humbling you.

"And then there are the life-affirming parts, the parts of fatherhood that remind you why you're alive: As a self-professed Star Wars nerd, being a dad has truly been one of the most enjoyable things in life. We're probably a bit more conservative than most parents when it comes to TV and movies. And until a month ago, hadn't shown Star Wars to either kid, and even now, only Zander has seen it. But since most of the kids at both boys' school had watched that movie, plus they had a ton of the toys, I wanted to devise a way for them to know the story. So what I did was, I told them the story of Star Wars.

"I broke every movie down into about 10 to 12 different 'stories.' I'd read the script and then every three or four nights we'd all lay down in their bed, turn out the lights and I'd have them stare at the ceiling and listen to the story of Star Wars. I'd do all the voices, make it all dramatic, leave every story on a cliff-hanger, it was awesome! They could stop me to ask me about characters or details, which they often did, and later as we found out, the best part of it, was that it allowed them to dream, to use their imagination about what Star Wars could be, or look like. The first time I had a light saber battle with the boys, I was practically in tears. So fuckin' cool. We've gone through all six Star Wars movies now, all four Indiana Jones, and are about to start Pirates of the Caribbean.

"Being a heavy metal dad is a life less ordinary. It is a choice the wife and I made, and a life we chose to bring our kids into. And while it is Father's Day, I'd like to give some huge props to Genevra for the enormous, nearly inhuman amount of effort she puts into raising our kids, the damn good job she does, the extraordinary patience she has in dealing with a barnacle-ly son-of-a-bitch like myself, and for being tough as nails and making me a better father.

"To my own Dad, Conrad Flynn, for being one heck of an awesome Dad.
And for all the heavy metal dads out there who work their asses off to balance this life we've chosen...Happy Father's Day."

Phil Demmel, Machine Head:

"Adding the complexities of a family member being a touring musician to a split-custody situation is one that my six-year-old son has known all his life. Bridging this gap and maintaining our unique relationship not only takes patience, but a lot of understanding. We have created an amazing kinship based on the fact that no matter how far apart or how long we go without seeing each other, he knows his Daddy will call and he will be seeing him again. With our limited time together, we've learned to not take anything for granted and to enjoy our family time (with Martarino too!) to the fullest. Our situation has strengthened our relationship and thank all that is good for what we have. Happy Father's Day to all."

Ray Luzier, Korn:

"This is my second Father’s Day as a dad. I want to raise my son like my Dad raised me - he was always 110% behind me in everything I did. Being a new dad, I want to learn from my father and encourage my boy to follow his passions in life, no matter what they are - because that’s what my Dad did for me. When a lot of people said to get a real job and quit trying to be a musician, my Dad always stood behind me and encouraged me to really go for it.

"It’s hard to be on the road away from my son, but Skype is a huge help being able to see his face and communicate with him and his mom. And it makes me really appreciate the time I have with him when I’m not on the road. Happy Father’s Day to everyone out there, and Happy Father’s Day, Dad!"

John Petrucci, Dream Theater:

"I have three kids and they are all musical. It's a funny thing because they have always been surrounded by music, whether it's at concerts, backstage, on stage, on a tour bus or in the studio. It's kind of inevitable that they would end up being musical. I always say it's like being born into a cop family, or a sports family, etc.

"They are especially exposed to tons of music at home since both my wife and I are guitar players. There are instruments all over the house and someone is always playing! The interesting thing is that my wife and I never pushed music on our children. They are naturally drawn to it and I think as a parent you have to walk a fine line between encouragement and over-involvement when it comes to the arts.

"As a father, the toughest thing that I've been faced with over the years is the difficulty in striking a balance between career and family. I really miss out on so much of their lives at times, so it's so important to value the time we are together and do the best that I can to hopefully share my experiences and knowledge with them enough that it has an impression on who and how they turn out to be as people. Fortunately for me, I married an amazing woman who has been such a positive and loving presence in their lives and incredible role model as their mother, and we work together at filling in all the gaps that may result from this kind of professional lifestyle. At the end of the day, I find that it really doesn't matter what band you're in or what anyone may think of you as a guitar player… to them you're just Dad!"

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! \m/
