Former CRO MAGS bassist Harley Flanagan before returning to court: "I can't believe I'm even getting charged at all"

On Friday, July 6, the CBGB Fest show that took place at New York City's Webster Hall was cancelled after two current members of the CRO MAGS were allegedly stabbed by Harley Flanagan (the founding member of the CRO MAGS). The incident occurred right after VISION OF DISORDER's set!

As seen on the NY Post: Around 8:15 PM, while the CRO MAGS were getting ready to take the stage, Harley Flanagan, 42, made his way into the venue’s VIP section toward the bands dressing room, sending nearly 30 guests on the balcony into a frenzy, law enforcement sources and witnesses said.

This Wednesday, December 5, Flanagan returns to court regarding the stabbing incident mentioned above, and he is obviously frustrated. Here is a Facebook post he did today (December 2), in which he lashes out at the current CRO MAGS members and the New York Hard Core community:

"In 4 days I go back to court for putting the cowards in the hospital who jumped me at that fake Cro-Mags show at that fake CBGB's fest. Lmfao.

"I can't believe I'm even getting charged at all, John Bloodclot should be embarrassed and ashamed that he even chills with wanna be thugs and fake tough guys... if he's not I am for him. LOL. I saw Mackie a few weeks ago and he said: "I told John he should have had you come up and play a few songs, then none of that shit would have happened". He even went on to say that they obviously knew what they were in for... that's why they set me up and jumped on me cause they knew I was no joke, and I ain't no punk. He also added that the fact that I went their Alone says a lot...

"That's right, it says it All!

"What a sad state of affairs... a real motherfucker who started NYHC getting jumped by people who wish they did. LOL. Fucking sheep and cowards jumping people at shows, and getting themselves fucked up. LOL. Gangs are for people who lack balls on their own.

"NYHC today: Old guys pretending their still young trying to squeeze a few bucks out of what's left of it, and young guys who wish they were old school. LOL.

"I roll with the Gracies, I chill with my kids, and I started the shit other motherfuckers still imitate.
"I am real, so go on take another bite.

"While the frauds are pretending, I'm keeping it really real."

LAMB OF GOD's Mark Morton Discusses The Upcoming U.S. Presidential Election!

LAMB OF GOD's phenomenal guitarist Mark Morton has given his two cents about the upcoming U.S. presidential election in article written for Spin.com. Here is what Morton had to say regarding the presidential race between Obama and Romney:

“The most interesting part about this year’s election, for me at least, has been watching the Democrats and Republicans and, really, the American political system as a whole, search for a discernible identity and ideological vision. We are facing a new day with respect to how we will balance domestic and international policy, and the manner in which these interests are to be prioritized to serve our overall national interest. Rather than subscribe dogmatically to one or another version of what are essentially the same, watered down political parties, separated (at least in the modern era) by a few “hot button” issues, the savvy voter will choose the candidate that best espouses a focused and organized approach with regard to how we will strategically direct our resources toward the greater good of the country.

“Throughout the last decade, this has been a largely outward directive. The changing economic and political landscape, in my opinion, implores us to refocus toward an inward looking, dare I say, isolationist strategy. Ok, maybe not that far, but certainly [further] than in the past, well, twenty years. Here’s why: To a student of political science in the 1990s, the primary focus of International Relations theory revolved largely around the readjustment of power in the post-Cold War era. How would the international community settle into a new game in which there were more than two primary players? Aside from a few pseudo-humanitarian military campaigns (Bosnia and Somalia come to mind) and an almost comically lopsided war with some pretty “blurry” motivating factors (the first Gulf War), the overriding questions were: Who would emerge as the new world military and economic superpowers? (A question that implies a balanced focus of external and internal issues.) And: What new alliances would result from a surging China, a “new” Russia and an unstable but resource rich Middle East? These concerns, however, shifted seemingly in an instant with the events of September 11, 2001, sending the American political agenda into a tunnel-visioned, single-tracked offensive against “terror,” defined, in this case, as fundamentalist Muslim extremist groups and the nations that harbored and funded them. Our focus became almost entirely outward. This quest, not surprisingly, proved not to be as cut and dried as we would all hope (see: Pakistan), and in time, after thousands of brave young men and women were sent home in flag-draped caskets and a couple cultural icons of “terror” (Osama bin Laden, Anwar al-Aulaqi) were killed, we all grew tired of our little wars and began the process of turning them over to awkwardly assembled local forces, ostensibly friendly to our national interests. Our focus begins to turn inward.

“So now we find ourselves at a bit of an ideological crossroads. Anyone confused about how a nation, no matter how “rich” or “powerful” it may have been, is sinking in debt after fighting TWO wars at the same time needs their head checked. It doesn’t take a degree in economics to figure out that that shit is insanely expensive beyond imagination. Yet, oddly enough, in our entire collective finger pointing and blame assigning, there is surprisingly little mention of this. I don’t really get it. Perhaps it would be political suicide to risk being perceived as unpatriotic or disrespectful to our lost soldiers by questioning whether or not these wars were worth the impact they had on us at home. (In an economic sense.) Nonetheless, with the wars drawing to a close, at least in the overt sense, we as a nation, and more specifically the two political parties representing us, will be faced with finding a new collective balance between an international and domestic focus. Of course, both [issues] are still going to be facets of our approach to governance, but it’s the balance between them that will lay the framework of where we will stand in the coming decades. The candidate, and party, with the most organized vision and strategy with regard to that balance is the one that will point us toward recovery.

“To me, that choice is obvious. Hopefully it is to everybody else!”

What do you think about Morton's political views? Let us know at the comments section below.

LAMB OF GOD's Randy Blythe Announces NEW Radio Show - Statement Available!

Recently, Randy Blythe was spotted at the Sirius XM Satellite Radio studios (the home of Howard Stern). What was Randy doing there? Well, Blythe will be hosting his very own monthly radio show called 'THE CRUCIBLE' on Liquid Metal! Here is what Randy posted via his Instagram account regarding his newest project:

“The reason I came to NYC was to record the first installment of my radio show for Sirius/XM’s Liquid Metal channel. That’s right, I have my own damn radio show now. My homeboy @JoseMangin (who has done a lot for Lamb Of God since the start) hit me up & said: “Um, dude, do you want a radio show?” WHY NOT? I have decided to call my show THE CRUCIBLE. Besides being a fantastic play by Arthur Miller (and a container that holds MOLTEN METAL), a crucible is defined as a difficult or trying experience, one that you come out of harder and more refined & more pure.

"Sometimes life is like that- you have to step into the fire to burn away all the crap & and just take the pain that comes with it. It hurts, but if you want to be A BETTER PERSON, you face this stuff & forge yourself anew, PURER & HARDER. One thing that has always helped me through these times is MUSIC. So on my show, I’ll be playing songs by bands that have helped shape me into the man that I am today, that have gotten me through the rough shit. I’ll also be playing songs by newer artists I like, & I’ll be telling some stories about what all the tunes mean to me. Then, once every show if I can, I will interview a member of one of the bands I’ll be playing, & I’ll ask them about what their music means to them. Right now (due to scheduling & my uncertain future), the show will be once a month- I want to do it more often eventually, but right now I’m kinda busy & have a situation to settle.

"For my first guest, I wanted someone who has seen some hard times himself, who has gone through some brutal stuff & come out a better man. I needed a real-deal, no bullshit, highly respected & moral, yet hard-as nails motherfucker. I immediately thought of one dude. He’s a legend & a good friend of mine, so he came up to do my first show & KICK IT.

"John Joseph (AKA Bloodclot), singer of the almighty CRO-MAGS. John is an amazing dude who has lived a life that would crush, break, & destroy most folks- I don’t think a lot people would make it out of a childhood like his alive, much less go on to be a living legend with such a positive message. Just read his autobiography,”The Evolution of a Cro-Magnon”, & you will see what I mean. Dude gets MAD RESPECT for a reason- he’s as real as it gets, & no one to fuck with AT ALL, but also is one of the nicest most humble & generous men I have ever met. Big hearted dude, & I’m proud to call him a friend! So thanks Bloodclot & @JoseMangin for helping me bring THE CRUCIBLE to life! I’ll be announcing the air dates soon- I wanna get nutty with this show, & use it kinda like this Instagram- share some art & tell some stories behind it- here it’s photos, on the show it will be tunes. We blasted some Cro-Mags for the interview potion if the show & I talked about what the tunes meant to me, then asked John about what they meant to HIM. When you make music, if it’s ANY GOOD, the listener takes it & makes it their own. I’ve done that with Cro-Mags & countless other bands- for me, it’s cool to talk to the faces behind the songs- I’m a fan of music first, & a band guy second. Watch out for my show!"

As previously reported, LAMB OF GOD is looking to honor the brave men and women of our United States military by incorporating soldier’s names and faces into a video presentation during their upcoming U.S. tour. If you are in the military, or have a husband, wife, brother, sister, friend or family member who has served or is actively serving, and wish to be included in this video tribute, please take a moment to send a photo to logvideocontent@gmail.com.

IMPORTANT: Please keep the photos under 2MB and include the soldier’s name, military branch, and a brief description of where the soldier is serving or has served. The band is asking for photos of soldiers killed in action, those actively serving, and those who have completed their service to our country.

Former CRO MAGS Bassist Harley Flanagan Walks Away With An Adjournment Following Webster Hall Stabbing Incident!

This morning at 100 Centre Street in New York City, Flanagan, accused of having attacked former band members walked away with an adjournment. There will be no further action on the matter, until December 5, 2012.

As Flanagan stated, "They should be embarrassed that they jumped me and I am going to court for putting them in the hospital."

SICK OF IT ALL: Reschedule Details For New York City Show Available!

"Thank you for your patience in waiting for this rescheduled date.

"Sick of it All is psyched to announce the rescheduled date for the missed performance on July 6th.
On September 7th, we’ll be joined by our good friends and New York Hardcore legends CIV, at Webster Hall with other very special guests.

"Due to the unfortunate events that resulted in the postponement, the Cro-Mags will not be playing.

"All tickets purchased for the July 6th show through Ticketweb will be changed into WILLCALL list tickets, which means your name will be on a list at the door, and you just bring your ID – not your original ticket.

"Previously purchased tickets will be handled this way to avoid issues with the many people that may not have their original ticket.

"If you have already received a refund, you will NOT be on the WILLCALL list and your barcode has been invalidated on your existing ticket. New tickets will be on sale THIS Thursday at 10am at Ticketweb."

This is why the show had to be rescheduled!

CRO-MAGS Beef: John Joseph Responds To Harley Flanagan's Statement & Says That A Tragedy Like DIMEBAG DARRELL's Was Avoided!

Yesterday (July 11th), Harley Flanagan (founder of the CRO MAGS) released a statement regarding the events that took place on July 6 at Webster Hall in New York City. On Friday night, Flanagan  attacked a few of bands current members. The incident took place during the CBGB Fest show that featured SICK OF IT ALL, CRO MAGS, VISION OF DISORDER, ABSOLUTION and SAI NAM.

After reading what Flanagan had to say (available here), current CRO MAGS frontman John Joseph released the following statement:

"[Harley has] been watching too many sci-fi movies.

"First off, Harley was NOT invited to the show. He was told repeatedly by CBGB [Festival organizers] NOT to come. (I have all the texts and e-mails to CBGBs and security.) He was given a CBGBs laminate to attend another event ('American Hardcore' screening) and then used it to sneak into the show. And if he wanted to talk and resolve things, as he claims, why didn't he come before doors where we could taken care of any beef he had? No, he just wanted to come on the stage during show and try and do something to gain press — well, he got his press alright.

"At 6 p.m. [Harley] texted Louise (CBGBs) and asked her what time we were going [on]. She didn't respond, but warned me. To which I alerted security to let them deal with it, I had a show to do. He showed up 20 minutes before [and] hid in the crowd outside our dressing room door with a backpack and a KNIFE, never knocking on our door and saying, 'Yo, guys… can we talk?' He was also heard ranting outside that he was putting a stop to us playing his music (his music?). And while sitting outside our door he told someone else that said to Harley that he doesn't care about the beef he attends both HARLEY'S WAR shows and CRO-MAGS shows, that he was just a fan of the music. Harley's response: 'Yeah, well, fuck you. Some shit's about to go down, so if you don't wanna be involved, keep fucking walking.' He also told people initially that I was in the dressing room when it all went down, making it look like I set him up when a thousand people saw me on stage ready to play.

"Look here's the bottom line: Security was told to come up and they never did. So knowing this dude always carries weapons and his plan was obviously to use the laminate to gain access to the stage while we played and hearing what he was ranting that night, also remembering the whole Dimebag Darrell (who got shot and killed on stage) situation, as we were on stage about to go on, he was asked to come in the dressing room by Mike. When Harley was grabbed to be searched for weapons, the fight ensued and those three took him down where he pulled a knife and began stabbing people. When the security finally arrived, he wouldn't drop the knife and THEY banged him up, not those three. Again, dozens of witnesses.

"Look if you got beef, a show with women and children on stage ain't the place to bring it. I believe those three stopped a much worse situation where perhaps kids could have got hurt who were on stage. And no one snitched — I refused to talk to the cops. Unfortunately for [Harley], it's a criminal case so no one has to press charges 'cuz he did that shit in a public venue. We have a way of dealing with matters — it's called 'street justice.' You pull a knife, I pull a pipe and smash your face in. And I did have a pipe on stage, by the way, knowing this dude can't really fight and always has a weapon, as I said.

"DMS are not thugs, so for the new jacks who weren't even around long enough to remember their past and said that — keep your mouths shut. For the last 10 years plus, they have been security at shows stopping violence, even promoting the Black N' Blue Bowl and other events where there is NEVER violence. If they had been doing security that night, Harley would have never got in and ALL of this could have been avoided. And only Mike is DMS, not the other two, and anyone who REALLY knows him (not you keyboard commandos talking crap anonymously) will attest to the fact that he's the nicest dude in the world and NEVER starts trouble. The other one is a veteran who tried to get the knife away from Harley. The other just a friend of the band. And Mike (Harley's replacement) was the one who got stabbed first.

"Bottom line, [Harley] was told not to come, he showed up right before we went on, he made threats and then he stabbed people. End of story.

"We will make up the show with SICK OF IT ALL as we are discussing another date now, but I wanted to set the record straight.

"Sure, obviously anyone who knows the past (it's all in my book, 'The Evolution Of A Cro-Magnon') knows [Harley] has a problem with me. He talks shit all the time — I do not. But he knows my bell and where I live. He NEVER rang it once. I told him we can go to the East River and resolve any issues. He refused. So if you wanna believe all the lies and B.S. that dude posts on [Facebook] — your choice. The truth is an entirely different thing, though. Your sympathy should lie with those who got stabbed, not the dude who did the stabbing and caused this whole problem. So stop gossiping and move on — that's what we are doing.

"See you in the pit.

"Peace and PMA."

- John Joseph (CRO-MAGS frontman)

According to the NY Post, Flanagan's victims were: William Berario, 45, who was slashed above the eye and bitten on his cheek, and Michael "The Gook" Couls, 33 (current CRO MAGS bassist & member of the DMS crew) who was cut in the lung, under his left armpit to his heart and on his arm.

Here are a few excerpts of the interview:

According to Harley, he was invited to the dressing room back stage and instead of being welcomed as he expected he was jumped by a group of men. "When I saw that door get pulled shut I was literally fighting for my life. I was afraid these guys were going to kick me half to death, roll me down the back steps and that no one would see it... and there would be no witnesses and that would be that.... and all I could think about was getting home safe to my kids... I wanted to save my life, to protect myself and these guys were trying to do me in.

"... I was getting the shit beat out of me. It was like an old fashion biker beat down, like BA BABABABABA BA And at that point everybody started screaming and I saw the door of the dressing room open and I started screaming security, security and I saw somebody pull the door shut to keep security out. And in my mind I thought to myself, 'fuck, these dudes, their intention is to fuck me up, they don't want no one to see it they're trying to beat the shit out of me...SO what I did was defend my life...'

"…I’m getting the shit beat out of me. …Then at that point that’s when the bouncers managed to get in the room and I ended up getting dragged out into the balcony area, which is where everybody says the mêlée took place but no the mêlée took place in the dressing room behind a locked door where I was getting jumped by myself.

"One dude says get on your stomach, get on your stomach, put your hands out in front of you and this one guy, big guy steps on my back and he’s standing with both of his feet on my back… and one guy is literally looking at me squeezing my throat choking me and… at this point it was DMS guys and security I don’t know who the fuck was which… one guy looks at me and says motherfucker I’ll fucking kill you… I will kick you in your fucking face until you are dead motherfucker stop moving.. and I’m just like Yo, I’m stopping moving at that point. And one guy's like put your hands out in front of you and I’m like are you a cop and he’s like yeah and I’m like show me your badge and at that point …the boys in blue hallelujah… the cops came running up the stairs… I was like fine, I’m not moving anymore … please cuff me, I stuck my hands out in front of me... I’m face down on the floor. At that point I still didn’t know that I had been stabbed, I got 30 stitches in my leg. Thank God it was in my leg …and the cops cuffed me, turned me over and that’s when I saw the wound in my leg…

"[ It] was just grotesque…the blood was bubbling out of it, the fischa was ..the tendons was literally hanging out of my leg… that’s why people started saying that’s a compound fracture… it was until I got cleaned up in the ambulance they realized it was more of a stab wound. And that’s when the cops put me on the chair. And they put me in the ambulance."

What Happened Last Night At Webster Hall? Who Were The Victims? Why Did It Happen? Find Out Now!

What Happened Last Night At Webster Hall?

Last night, the CBGB Fest show that was taking place at New York City's Webster Hall, was cancelled after two current members of the CRO MAGS were stabbed by Harley Flanagan (the founding member of the CRO MAGS). The incident occurred right after VISION OF DISORDER's set!

As see on the NY Post: Around 8:15 PM, while the CRO MAGS were getting ready to take the stage, Harley Flanagan, 42, made his way into the venue’s VIP section toward the bands dressing room, sending nearly 30 guests on the balcony into a frenzy, law enforcement sources and witnesses said.

According to a witness (who has chosen to remain unnamed), Flanagan was acting weird right before the incident: "I talked to him outside minutes before it happened and I knew something was going to go down. He was like a fu&*ing lunatic outside... Next thing I know he's in the VIP area stabbing people!"

Here is what the folks from Bowery Boogie saw:

"We were watching the hardcore show at Webster Hall – featuring Sick of it All, Cro Mags, and VOD – when all hell broke loose upstairs. Harley Flanagan, founding member of the Cro Mags stumbled into the VIP lounge with a knife. Security mobilized in a hot minute and beat the shit out of him. It took no less than six beefy dudes to control the madness. Blood was everywhere, and bone protruded from his shin.

"Cops quickly appeared and took him away in cuffs. Not before he had already stabbed some dude in the chest (said victim left the scene with a bandage over the wound). Because of the violence the rest of the show was canceled. The remaining bands promised to reschedule the show. To be fair, Webster Hall security contained the situation professionally. Lots of drunken, pissed off hardcore fans were on edge after the cops shut down the show, but the scene was cleared without further incident."

“Someone was yelling, ‘Get his hands, get his hands, he’s got a knife!’ ” witness Dave Gustav said. “Everything went nuts.”

“People started booing him and throwing stuff at him,” eyewitness Justin Brannan said. “His hands were handcuffed but he still gave everyone the finger.”

Here is a detailed description of the events (courtesy of The Daily News):

"He first lunged at one of the men and slashed him twice in the side, the sources said. As the second victim tried to break up the fight, Flanagan bit him and slashed him near his right eye.

"Flanagan then turned back to the first victim and cut him again in the right arm and bit him in the left forearm. Both men were taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

"Flanagan, who played bass with the band, was charged with second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon, cops said. A 4- to 5-inch knife was recovered at the scene."

Who Were The Victims?

According to the NY Post, William Berario, 45, was slashed above the eye and bitten on his cheek. Michael "The Gook" Couls, 33 (current CRO MAGS bassist & member of the DMS crew) was cut on his arm and stomach.

Both members of CRO MAGS were taken to Bellevue Hospital with non life-threatening wounds.

Flanagan, suffered a broken leg by the time security finally pinned him down, witnesses said. Cops handcuffed him to a chair and took him out and also brought him to the hospital. He was hit with two counts of 2nd degree assault and weapons charges.

Why Did It Happen?

The attack was allegedly sparked by Flanagan's request to play on stage during the CRO MAGS set being denied, as well as him being under a high level of stress due to his recent divorce. It is believed that his intention was to injure the current bass player to force the CRO MAGS to need him to play bass. In his possession at the time of his arrest was a VIP laminate from the CBGB festival, which had granted him access to the VIP area where the attack occurred. He received the laminate because he was a panelist at the CBGB festival on the previous day.

Reportedly, the CRO MAGS camp had warned the Webster Hall staff about Flanagan's presence at the show and asked them to not allow him inside the venue. Once inside, allegedly Flanagan was being served pitchers of beer inside the VIP area (located upstairs at the venue).

"You can all thank Harley Flanagan for ruining the night for everyone," CRO MAGS lead singer John Joseph McGowan told the crowd.

Note from the club: First off, we don’t sell pitchers of beer or anything in pitchers for that matter. We were on the lookout for him, all the security guards at the front + guestlist people + cashier were shown pictures of Harley (we were only alerted to this issue 2 hours after doors) and we do not know if he was already in by that time or not, but the pictures online are old and don’t really look how he looked on Friday. The security guards upfront were given his full name to look for when checking IDs, as well as the cashier and guestlist people. We do not believe he had an alcohol wristband on, and he did have 3 CBGB VIP laminates on him (which is how he got into the VIP area in the first place), so he likely came in said “I’m not drinking “ (to avoid getting ID’d) and flashed his badge. We saw him (as well as most of the incident) and he did not look close to the pictures anymore.

"As I reflect on the spirit of revolution that got me into the 'REAL' punk-rock back when everything else was full of shit, the feelings I had the first time I went to Max's Kansas City, or CBGB's, when I saw The Clash, Bad Brains, The Damned, SOA, Minor Threat, Black Flag... then, I knew I had found my tribe. Never raise your hands in surrender to this corrupt system to go lead quiet lives of desperation. FIGHT!"

Hardcore Legend Harley Flanagan Signs With Southern Lord Records - Official Statement Available!

It is with maximum enthusiasm that we deliver this latest killer news from the Southern Lord Recordings headquarters; legendary Hardcore icon HARLEY FLANAGAN, bassist/vocalist of CRO-MAGS and HARLEY'S WAR fame, has officially signed with the label for several upcoming releases!

Southern Lord owner Greg Anderson released the following statement regarding this new alliance with Harley's newest endeavors:

"Harley Flanagan is one of the most revered, controversial and infamous musicians of the last 25 years of underground music. His resume and reputation speak equal amounts of vitriolic decibels as does his bass stack blaring in your face. I have personally been a huge fan of Harley and his work with the Cro-Mags from the first time I heard their debut album Age of Quarrel in 1986. Much like the feeling you got when you first heard Bad Brains, Discharge or Minor Threat, Cro-Mags were musically and aesthetically on another level that was matchless. Through the power of the net and sheer luck I started talking to Harley Flanagan over emails and telephone past year. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the intensity and honesty of his playing also carried through in his personality. Harley is humble, raw, intelligent, driven and focused. To say it is an honor for Southern Lord to be working with Harley Flanagan is a enormous understatement! We're in shock and CAN NOT WAIT to get this shit going! The first release we will be doing together will be the forthcoming Harley's War album. The demos of the material he has shared with us for this are fucking phenomenal! The new Harley's War material has the same feeling as the initial musical impact the Cro-Mags first had in the mid-'80s. Killer songwriting, raw lyrics and Harley Flanagan's trademark bass playing. As mentioned above this is "other level" shit! Expect nothing less than a brutal musical beatdown from the master!"

Stay tuned for developments on all things pertaining to HARLEY FLANAGAN and HARLEY'S WAR over the coming months.

The Black N Blue Bowl: Webster Hall takeover

At these years Black N Blue Bowl, Hardcore history was written thanks to the amazing lineup that the BNB Productions team assembled. As soon as I arrived at Webster Hall, the excitement was evident on the streets as kids were anxiously waiting for the controlled chaos to begin. Outside of the venue, we ran into Freddy and Hoya from Madball, Tim Williams from Vision Of Disorder, John Joseph from the Cro Mags, Lou Koller from Sick Of It All, Danny Diablo from Skarhead, Lars Frederiksen from Rancid, Paul Bearer from Sheer Terror, Jimmy Gestapo from Murphy's Law, and Cousin Joe from Black N Blue Productions.

Seeing all this VIP’s of the Hardcore scene in one place was surreal. After all, one of the first things I learned about New York culture was the music created by those who are part of the New York Hardcore family. I can honestly say that this form of music has been a huge part of my life since I was 16; it has definitely helped shape me as an open minded individual. And as much respect as I have for other musical scenes, the bond between the bands and the fans that are part of the New York Hard Core family is incomparable. Let me tell you about what went on at the old Ritz.

Incendiary had the honor of being the first band to step on stage with enough fuel to burn the place down and the kids got right into the flames. Then the BNB Bowl continued to explode with H8 Inc. from Detroit, who made themselves right at home as the global audience present at Webster Hall welcomed them with their fists in the air.

Next up on this Hardcore party, was the band Sand from Japan who are also known as Asia’s masters of breakdowns. These guys impressed the hell out of the audience with their great energy, wild stage presence and most importantly their killer songs. I had the chance to speak with their lead singer Makoto (through an interpreter) and he mentioned that New York Hardcore has been instrumental in the Japanese Hardcore movement. He also mentioned that when Madball was in Japan, Freddy Cricien from Madball promised them that if they made it to the US; he would make sure they played at the BNB Bowl.

Minutes after Sand left everyone sweating profusely, Cruel Hand shook the venue with a fast driven, energetic set: a set that was not for the weak hearted. Next up the surprise of the night: Wisdom In Chains. A band with phenomenal stage presence and with a very tight dynamic sound, as a result the kids went ape shit. I spoke with singer Mad Joe Black right after the band finished their set and he was drenched in adrenaline and absolutely stoked! Then it was time for Trapped Under Ice, who had a rough time following the energetic set that Wisdom In Chains had just completed.

Around 7 PM Supertouch (the night’s special guest) took over center stage, and continued getting the crowd riled up for what was about to unfold. Supertouch were well received by most of the crowd, but some attendees were expecting a lot more from this band. I think the crowd was expecting a special guest of more caliber like Agnostic Front or Sick Of It All.

Then Webster Hall turned into a party of semi-controlled mayhem. The venue was grooving as soon as Skarhead stepped on stage. I had never seen them live, but was aware that they shoot lethal doses of energy into the crowd with their powerful music and stage antics. By the time Skarhead finished their set, everyone was bruised up.

As the night was winding down and some were starting to get tired, Toby and his band H20 charged up everyone’s batteries. It is hard to find a band with the energy of H20, and as a result hundreds of kids kept coming on stage and making their way back into the crowd. It was the Hardcore Olympics!

Soon after H2O finished their exploding set, Yuppicide made their comeback after 12 years of silence. And they made sure that it was felt by all of the Black N Blue Bowl attendees. From the moment they jumped on stage, it was clear that they were absolutely ready to get the crowd stomping and that the band was very excited to be back in front of such a great crowd.

Finally it was time for one of my favorite bands of all time, the mighty Madball, to get on stage and set it off! These guys never cease to blow minds away and they sounded tighter than ever with the addition of their new drummer Jay Weinberg (Max Weinberg’s son). There was not one person standing still or sitting down during their vulgar display of true street Hardcore. I had a chance to talk to Freddy and Hoya, and they said they are making sure that the next Madball album leaves a worldwide mark!

Concluding the night of Hard Core mayhem, the legendary Cro Mags proofed why they are one of the most influential Hardcore bands in history. From the moment they ran on stage, it was nonstop insanity. John Joseph’s vocals sounded crisp and one thing that impressed me is that the entire band knew exactly how to feed the crowd some adrenaline, when some were getting tired.

All in all, it was a fantastic day in which fans from all over the world came to have a great time. There were no major problems and the venue (which was sold out) was very happy with the results. Black N Blue 2010 was an absolute success, and it looks like it will happen again next year, at Webster Hall. Congratulations to the entire Black N Blue family for putting together one of the best shows, if not the best show, of the year! And the fact that there were people from Europe, Scandinavia, Latin America, Asia and even Australia, is proof that New York Hardcore is now Worldwide Hardcore.

ARTIST QUOTES:
Freddy Cricien (Madball):
"Thank you to everyone who supported our event. Whether you were performing or observing, you were part of a historic night.. They'll be more to come!"

John Joseph (Cro Mags):

"It was great to play in front of so many different kinds of people, to me that is the concept behind Hardcore music. I want to thank Freddy and the rest of the Black N Blue team, for putting together such a great show. We had so much fun and that is thanks to what the crowd was feeding to us. This show will be talked about for months to come. And to think that it was all started by the Bad Brains, who couldn't find a place to play back in DC and ended up in New York. Who would have thought that on times were segregation was evident, that a group of African Americans would make such an impact and help give birth to the New York Hardcore scene."
