DEFTONES To Release 'Eros', Chi Cheng's Very Last Recordings With The Band!

According to www.blabbermouth.net, the DEFTONES plan on releasing 'Eros' in the near future. 'Eros' is the very last record featuring their original bassist Chi Cheng, who passed away recently (details HERE). The band was actually finalizing the record, when Chi suffered life threatening injuries following a November 2008 car crash that eventually costed him his life. Chino Moreno had just left the studio after recording his vocal tracks for 'Eros' and was about half-way done with all songs on the album when the accident occurred.

Following the accident, the band decided to not release the album because they wanted to release a better record. They then recruited Sergio Vega (ex-QUICKSAND) to play bass, with whom they have released two albums: 2010's 'Diamond Eyes' and 2012's 'Koi No Yokan'. Chi's last record with the band is 2006's 'Saturday Night Wrist'.

Here in an interview that Artisan News conducted with Chino at the "Black Carpet", during the fifth edition of the Revolver Golden Gods Awards. Chino talks in detail about 'Eros'.

DEFTONES Premiere Video For "Swerve City" & We Have It!

One week ago, 'Koi No Yokan' scored the Golden God award for "Album Of The Year" during the fifth edition of the Revolver Golden Gods Awards, which took place at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, CA.

As previously reported, former DEFTONES bassist Chi Cheng died on Saturday, April 13, at a Sacramento, CA hospital. As we all know, Chi was in a tragic car accident on November 4, 2008. As a result, he suffered some very serious brain injuries. Ever since the accident Chi was in a state of semi-consciousness after suffering severe TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury).

DEFTONES To Release Different Versions Of 'Koi No Yokan' On Vinyl!

This just in: The DEFTONES have announced that they will be releasing several different vinyl editions of their brand NEW album "Koi No Yokan", on January 22. The four configurations are:

- A standard retail version pressed on 140-gram black vinyl (3,000 units)
- A direct-to-consumer version on 180-gram black vinyl with foil-stamped numbered jackets (1,000 units)
- An international edition pressed on 180-gram vinyl
- An exclusive edition sold through Hot Topic retailers pressed on 140-gram clear-colored vinyl (1,500 units).

As previously announced, the DEFTONES are hitting the road this March in support of 'Koi No Yokan' (one of the best records of 2012). It has been announced that PERIPHERY will serve as direct support during the entire tour. Here is the complete itinerary:

Yes, we're a heavy band, but we're not just in-your-face aggro the whole time, punching you in the face. There's a lot of aggression in some of the music, but there's also this very soothing element where there's a lot of soundscapes rather than attack, attack, attack the whole time. Hurricane Sandy strikes again! The Deftones have been forced to postpone their New York City and Boston shows due to the current weather conditions within the East Coast region of the United States. Here is what the band posted on their Facebook page earlier today:

"We have a well-documented history of taking forever to make records. But with our last record, we did it in a really short, good amount of time, probably four or five months from the time we started writing until we finished it. For us, that was record time, so this time the idea was, 'Let's go in and start a record on this date and let's try to be finished by summertime and keep this work ethic we kind of stumbled upon on the last one,' and we did."

'Diamond Eyes' sold 62,000 copies in the US in its first week and debuted at the Number 6 position on The Billboard 200 chart. As previously reported, on Friday, July 27, the DEFTONES performed at a private event at Warner Bros. Records in Burbank, California. During this special performance, they debuted two NEW songs called "Rosemary" and "Roller Derby". The as of yet entitled NEW DEFTONES album is scheduled to be released on October 9, 2012. The follow up to the critically acclaimed 'Diamond Eyes', released on May 4, 2010, is a lethal album for the DEFTONES and they know this. This is why once again they have lined up producer Nick Raskulinecz, who also produced 'Diamond Eyes'.



Lead singer Chino Moreno told Billboard.com why the band got back to work faster than usual. "It was important that we wanted to not drag it out," he said. "We have a well-documented history of taking forever to make records. But with our last record, we did it in a really short, good amount of time, probably four or five months from the time we started writing until we finished it. For us, that was record time, so this time the idea was, 'Let's go in and start a record on this date and let's try to be finished by summertime and keep this work ethic we kind of stumbled upon on the last one,' and we did."

'Diamond Eyes' sold 62,000 copies in the US in its first week and debuted at the Number 6 position on The Billboard 200 chart. 'Diamond Eyes' was the deftones first album, since their bassist Chi Cheng had a horrific car accident on November 4, 2008. The accident left him in a comatose state. Sergio Vega recorded 'Diamond Eyes', toured with the band, and is back in the studio to record the bands seventh studio album.

Asked how the NEW DEFTONES disc sounds, Moreno told Billboard.com, "It's not a super fast or slow record. It's very dynamic. Some of my favorite things about DEFTONES are the dynamics. Yes, we're a heavy band, but we're not just in-your-face aggro the whole time, punching you in the face. There's a lot of aggression in some of the music, but there's also this very soothing element where there's a lot of soundscapes rather than attack, attack, attack the whole time. I understand that's a big part of our sound, but I really feel like we reached a peak on our dynamics on this record with those two qualities — the beauty of something and just straight, ruthless aggression."
