Today, Friday, May 10th, TOOL's legendary drummer Danny Carey is celebrating his 52nd birthday! Danny was bornin Lawrence, Kansas. His first encounter with the drums began at the age of ten by joining the school band and taking private lessons on the snare drum.Two years later, Carey began to practice on a drum set.
In his senior year of high school in Paola, Kansas, Carey joined the high school jazz band and began to study under drumming great Ben Kelso specifically for jazz drumming training. Jazz would later play a huge role in his signature approach to the drum set in a Rock setting. As Carey progressed through high school and later college at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, he began expanding his studies in percussion with theory into the principles of geometry, science, and metaphysics as well as delving into Sacred Geometry and certain hidden aspects of life and the occult. Carey also played jazz while attending college and got to experience the jazz scene in Kansas City.
After college, a friend and bandmate convinced Carey to leave Kansas for Portland, Oregon, where he played briefly in various bands before moving to Los Angeles, California, where he was able to perform as a studio drummer with Carole King and perform live sets with Pigmy Love Circus. He also played in Green Jellÿ as Danny Longlegs and recorded the album Cereal Killer. He would later find his way to TOOL after coming to know singer Maynard James Keenan and guitarist Adam Jones and practicing with them in place of drummers the two had requested but had never shown up. Besides TOOL, Carey also finds time for other projects new and old such as Pigmy Love Circus, VOLTO!, and ZAUM. As previously announced, TOOL are working on some NEW music. Up until know, in typical TOOL fashion the band have been very mysterious about the status of their fifth studio album and have only been communicating with the outside world via their webmaster.
The Rock FM (New Zealand radio station), recently conducted an interview with TOOL's drummer Danny Carey. During the interview Carey discussed the progress of the NEW TOOL album, the effect that their music has on millions of people worldwide and his involvement with Jason Bonham (son of John Bonham from LED ZEPELLIN) on the NEW Superman soundtrack. Today (March 19), marks the 31st death anniversary of legendary Heavy Metal guitarist RANDY RHOADS. His tragic death is still mourned by the Heavy Music world. On March 19, 1982, RHOADS went on a plane ride around Leesburg, Florida, on board a small plane around while on tour with Ozzy when all of a sudden the pilot lost control and the plane clipped into the side of Ozzy's tour bus. Next thing you know, the plane crashed into a mansion garage. RHOADS died immediately from the impact! He was only 25 years old. RHOADS was born on December 6, 1956 at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California. He was the youngest of three children. His older brother, Doug, is a drummer and vocalist who also arrange classical compositions, who goes by the name of Kelle Rhoads. His sister's name is Kathy.
RHOADS can be blamed for being not a only a phenomenal musician, but also a true innovator when it came to music writing. His guitar skills with early Quiet Riot and obviously with Ozzy Osbourne, revolutionized music forever. His angelic face, blonde hair, and his amazing personality, will be remembered forever! To this very day his musical style and songwriting skills remain unmatched. RHOADS has influenced thousands of musicians worldwide, some of this musicians are: the late great Dimebag Darrell Abbott (Pantera & Damageplan), Zakk Wylde from Black Label Society, and many more! "Greetings to all of you! I hope you had a great New Year. Here is a condensed list of some of the events that are planned for the first half of this year.
"2013 is going to be a very busy and intensely productive year ahead, it seems.
"We will start off with a two-day Sky Academy in Los Angeles, at the Santa Monica Playhouse on January 21st and 22nd. This is a beautiful, intimate theatre, where we held one of the previous Sky Academies which we all have fond memories of. I'm looking forward to being there again!
"The next day I will take part in Jason Becker's "Not Dead Yet" concert in San Francisco, together with my friends Steve Morse, Richie Kotzen, Gus G, and several other great players. Jason is an inspiration to all of us and I feel honored to be part of this worth-while cause.
"Following that, I shall be attending the Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, California and will do a signing event for the Sky Guitar Limited Edition at the DEAN booth.
"At the end of January we are embarking on my extensive 40th Anniversary Tour of the US, which will take us all the way through February until the beginning of March. 2013 marks the 40th anniversary of my involvement with the SCORPIONS. The main theme of this tour will therefore be dedicated to performing my personal favorites from the five albums which I recorded with that great band.
"I have chosen about 30 songs in all from that era as the basis of our repertoire, several of which have never even been performed live by either the Scorpions or myself. We will be rotating a selection of these songs on the tour, varying our sets on a nightly basis, because we cannot possibly play all of them in one go.
"We will, of course, also play some ELECTRIC SUN and SKY OF AVALON music, but the main theme of the performance will be dedicated to the early SCORPIONS era.
"Every show will be recorded for a live album, which will feature only songs from my time with the SCORPIONS. This will result in a double CD, which will be mixed in 5.1 surround. The release will also contain a DVD and a documentary, including personal behind-the-scenes Super-8 footage, which I shot to document our tours from 1973-1978.
"As far as live albums go, I am intending to record 2 further ones in the following years:
"One will be featuring my favorite ELECTRIC SUN material -and the next one will consist of SKY OF AVALON/ TRANSCENDENTAL SKY GUITAR music.
"In order to do full justice to my selection of SCORPIONS songs we are bringing a large band with an exciting line-up. Due to the length of the tour, not all members were free to do the whole tour.
"Therefore some of the positions will be filled by two musicians - each of them playing part of the tour.
"In addition to the concerts there are 14 introductory SKY ACADEMY SEMINARS to be held during the course of the tour! These are usually taking place at the venues of the shows, on the same days and prior to the concerts. Pre-booking is essential, though. The seminars are not only geared for musicians. Anyone who loves music can attend. Sky Academy is about much more than just guitar playing, but players are also very welcome to bring their guitars and practice amps. The teaching should be useful to players of all levels.
"March, April and May will be dedicated to studio work and some shows in England.
"I also have been invited to play at the Royal Albert Hall in London by Alfie Boe as a guest for his concerts in April. Aside from this, we are going to collaborate on a new release of "Bridge to Heaven" intended for the Sunflower Jam Cancer Charity.
"In June we will play six concerts in South America, co-headlining with Michael Schenker. The dates will be posted very soon.
"We are planning further European and UK dates for the second half of 2013 and a tour of Japan
"I am also looking forward to my continued involvement in the Robert Johnson Award in Hamburg, Germany, which is a great platform for genuine young guitar talents. As a special appreciation of his talent, I have chosen one of last years' participants, the 14-year old Merlin Lauert, to share the stage with us at our Wacken 2013 show.
"And last, but not least: I have written an entire album's worth of NEW material, which I am very excited about. As soon as time permits we will begin to record it.

heavy metal singer Tim "Ripper" Owens (BEYOND FEAR, ex-JUDAS PRIEST,
ICED EARTH), who has been fronting Yngwie Malmsteen's band both live and
in the studio since February 2008, does not appear on "Spellbound".
It seems that the man Yngwie J. Malmsteen is truly Spellbound this time around. Not only does he produce some of the most extreme Neo classical guitar compositions, but he is also delivering the lead vocals as well as the other instruments. Included as well, some turbo charges bluesy stuff to boot, Spellbound indeed.
Malmsteen will release his NEW album entitled 'Spellbound' on December 5 via Rising Force Records.

Thirty years ago today (April 17, 2012), Motörhead released their fifth studio album entitled 'Iron Fist'. Recorded from January 26 - March 1, 1982 at Ramport Studios and Morgan Studios (both in London), according to LEMMY the album was "bad, inferior to anything else we've ever done. Having Eddie produce it was a mistake that even he would now probably admit to".
Upon the release of 'Iron Fist' on April 17, 1982, the album peaked at number 6 on the UK album charts.It was preceded by the release of the title track "Iron Fist" as a single on 3 April, which peaked in the UK singles chart at number 29. 'Iron Fist' was the last album recorded by the Lemmy, Eddie Clarke, and Phil Taylor line up.
The the name of the album was chosen by LEMMY, who writes all the lyrics and records all the vocals on all Motörhead albums. After struggling to think of a name for the title track for the album, he remembered the time the band had performed live under the name Iron Fist and the Hordes from Hell, the name was eventually shortened to simply 'Iron Fist'.

RHOADS was born on December 6, 1956 at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California. He was the youngest of three children. His older brother, Doug, is a drummer and vocalist who also arrange classical compositions, who goes by the name of Kelle Rhoads. His sister's name is Kathy.
RHOADS can be blamed for being not a only a phenomenal musician, but also a true innovator when it came to music writing. His guitar skills with early Quiet Riot and obviously with Ozzy Osbourne, revolutionized music forever. His angelic face, blonde hair, and his amazing personality, will be remembered forever! To this very day his musical style and songwriting skills remain unmatched. RHOADS has influenced thousands of musicians worldwide, some of this musicians are: the late great Dimebag Darrell Abbott (Pantera & Damageplan), Zakk Wylde from Black Label Society, and many more!
