Here is another reason why Matt Heafy from TRIVIUM rules! While the song you will listen to in a few seconds (if you dare) is not part of the bands upcoming album, it is funny as well. This is what Heafy had to say about this "NEW song":
"This was a parody song recorded right around the time of Trivium’s
'Ascendancy'. The 2004/2005 emo/post-pop punk-scene had several bands with
the “-day” in their name, with non-sensical titles.
"I figured… “Hey… I can write music like that super easily.” This took merely a few hours to write, record, mix and master.
"Paolo (Trivium) played bass, I played guitars and sang and programmed
the Boss drum machine, Jason Suecof manned the recording desk.
"I did this completely intoxicated too.
"Enjoy this oldie but goodie.
"Dedicated to anyone who thought we weren't metal enough!"
In some serious TRIVIUM news, the band announced earlier this week that they are D O N E mixing their NEW sonic assault, and that it will be mastered early next week! Colin Richardson was the mixer for the bands sixth studio album. The effort was produced by David Draiman, frontman of DISTURBED and DEVICE. Here is what Draiman had to say about working with TRIVIUM!
It is safe to assume that the band will release their NEW record before the Summer festival season begins. So get stoked! Related links: Trivium

The bands very ownMatt Heafy, recently chatted with Roadrunner Records about the production of #6 and how the band ended up crossing paths with Draiman. A few excerpts of the interview follow: How was the decision made to have David Draiman produce the new record?
I’ll backtrack and I’ll give you the whole story. When Disturbed did their first tour ever, I was like 16 or 17 years old. It was Danzig headlining, Six Feet Under direct support and Disturbed opening. That was the first time I ever saw Disturbed. Throughout the years…in 2005, we finished our show in Chicago – we were supporting Danzig, we were second out of five for the Danzig/Kataklysm tour, and David Draiman just happened to be at the show. He came up and was like, “Hey, you guys are awesome, I’ve been a fan of you guys for a while,” and we were really blown away that the guy from Disturbed liked our band. So that was it – it was kind of this quick little meeting. But we’d meet every other year or so at a random show, and we’d kind of keep in touch.
One day I remember online I saw a picture of one of our fans, wearing a Trivium shirt, posing with David Draiman, and Draiman was wearing a Trivium hoodie. I was like, this is fucking awesome! He’s an actual fan. So we became friends and started bumping into each other every once in a while, and he brought us and As I Lay Dying out on their headlining tour of Australia and New Zealand. From there we were able to hang a little bit more, and then we did Mayhem together. On Mayhem, I passed him a copy of In Waves, saying “Hey man, thanks for all the support over the years, I hope you dig our new record.”
Last date of the tour, he pops in and wants to talk to me, and he tells me that never before has he felt we were ready to make the jump, before now. And when he heard In Waves, he knew that Trivium was ready to make the leap. That he’s always been a big fan, but when he heard the songs and the songwriting power that was In Waves, he wanted to work with us. And he said, If you want to work with me, I would love to work with you. And naturally we were like, Yeah, we’d love to.
We knew he worked with Disturbed production-wise from seeing it in the liner notes, but we never really knew what he did, until one day he had us at the studio and we checked out the Device stuff. And as soon as I heard it, I was like, All right, now I know who’s been doing this – not to take anything away from Disturbed, because I know it takes those four dudes to make it what it is, but when I heard the ingredients that I really loved as a singer and a songwriter and a melody writer in the stuff that David was doing with Device, I was like OK, I see that the ingredients are in this that I loved from Disturbed, so David is definitely a producer.
After we heard that, we were like, Yeah, we’ve gotta work together. So we passed demos to each other – it might have been over a year. We started writing the demos before In Waves even came out, which we always seem to do, not because we have to but just because we feel inspired. So we’d pass him batches of demos, he’d pass us notes back, and we’d keep a bible. And we’d keep doing that throughout the touring cycle. And not doing it in a regimented way or anything, just when we felt like it was a good time to work, we’d work and send it to him, and he would give us great critiques, and the songs kept getting better and better from a distance. Finally we built up a schedule and moved in with him for about two months. And the record was made, and now we’re back home.
TRIVIUM recently announced that they are D O N E tracking their NEW sonic assault! The bands sixth studio album is being produced by David Draiman, frontman of DISTURBED. Here is what he had to say to ArtistDirect.comabout working with the TRIVIUM boys on their latest effort:
"I just finished tracking the Trivium record. We're getting that
mixed sometime this week. I've been friends with those guys for a while,
but their last record is really what drew me to them. 'In Waves' was
a big record for them. It opened the door, as far as I was concerned
for us to be able to work together from a creative standpoint. I think
they took a big step with that record. This album we just finished is
another gigantic step for them. What we've been working on is all I've
been listening to."
He also talks about his own work on the self-titled debut album by his own NEW band, DEVICE!Here is the entire article!
TRIVIUM recently announced that they are D O N E tracking their NEW sonic assault! Recently, the bands bassist Paolo Gregoletto was interviewed on Baltimore radio station 98 Rock's "Geekin' Havoc" show.
During the interview, Paolo spills all details out about TRIVIUM's sixth studio album (fifth for Roadrunner Records). The bands NEW record was produced in Austin, Texas by Disturbed/Device frontman David Draiman. He also talks about documenting the sessions on video, how the band's music has progressed on the NEW record, hints at some tour dates later in 2013, and a whole bunch more
After a successful European tour with AS I LAY DYING, CALIBAN and UPON A BURNING BODY at the end of last year, at the beginning of 2013 Florida's TRIVIUM locked themselves up to record the follow up for 2011's 'In Waves' (available now via Roadrunner Records). For their sixth studio album, the band recruited DISTURBED's frontman David Draiman as head of the project. The band has just announced that they are D O N E tracking their NEW sonic assault! The next order of business is for the band to mix and master the record (they haven't announced who will take care of this yet), and then to start teasing your ears with the next generation of TRIVIUM music! It is safe to assume that the band will release their NEW record before the Summer festival season begins. So get stoked!

As previously reported,
pre-production to the follow up for 2011's 'In Waves' (available now via
Roadrunner Records) began this Monday, January 14. The band newest musical assault is being produced by DISTURBED's frontman David Draiman. Here are a few pictures of the band working on some ideas with Draiman under the helm: http://hornsuprocks.blogspot.com/2013/01/trivium-to-join-forces-with-disturbed.html
Back in the 90s, the "MTV Unplugged" series became very popular since it showcased artists in a very intimate setting. Part of the magic within the series was that the majority of artists would step out of their "comfort zone", and many would switch their electric guitars into acoustic guitars. This obviously added extra stress to the artists, since they had to rehearse and many times learn how to play a certain "amplified" musical part without any electrical effects or "tricks".
One thing that all musicians who are not used to performing in an intimate setting have in common, is that they get nervous as hell. Of course they are professionals and usually shine within this unusual environment for them, without letting anyone know how nervous they are. And even though they are used to performing in front of massive amounts of people, they do feel the added pressure.
Take for example MACHINE HEAD's Robb Flynn, who recently performed and acoustic set at a Tony La Russa benefit show (video below). Here is what he had to say about how nerve wrecking his recent acoustic experience was:
"And then the time came to do my set for a 40-to-70 year-old audience that I was certain had no fuckin’ clue who the hell I or Machine Head was. I cracked a couple jokes about it and definitely broke the ice; I was nervous, surprisingly so, irrationally so. Every time I do these acoustic things I'm nervous, I kept telling myself "dude, you headline festivals in front of 100,000 people, and don't even blink an eye, why are you nervous?" I guess the idea of sitting, just me and an acoustic, and just being in the moment, connecting to the lyrics, connecting to the emotion and the place where I wrote it, and the idea that I couldn't rely on my old bag of tricks is... well, scary. I both like and hate that feeling. I feel like I need to do more of it just to get past this weird... I dunno, fear? " Another Heavy Music artist who recently performed acoustically in New York City and in Gothenburg, Sweden, is TRIVIUM's Matt Heafy (video below). Prior to his first acoustic solo performance at the Moscot Gallery in New York City, Heafy made it clear that he was out of his "comfort zone".
"I’m never nervous with Trivium shows but I’m always nervous with things I don’t really do – like dancing in public, if I had to do it I would be terrified. Having never done a solo acoustic show of songs that no one would expect me to do I don’t know what vibe I’m going to get, I’ll figure it out. I was asking Corey Taylor, who was doing those acoustic shows – I saw him do one in front of 8,000 people in Austria and people were freaking out, he played the Spongebob Square Pants Theme, Alice in Chains and all this stuff. So I asked him how he gets into it and he gave me a couple of tips."
Since Heafy brought up Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT/STONE SOUR)...
In 2011, we had the chance to catch "An Evening With Corey Taylor". The event was Taylor's super smart way of promoting his debut book "Seven Deadly Sins: Settling the Argument Between Born Bad and Damaged Good". Seeing Taylor in such an intimate setting without of his jumpsuit and mask, was very powerful (video below). Almost as powerful as seeing his as #8 in SLIPKNOT.
So for those who say that acoustic sets are not Metal: if you want to be close minded about it and not open your mind to NEW/COOL ways for our music to be presented, that is your personal choice. Just don't forget that the key ingredient of Metal is rebellion, which it can be translated into trying things that most are too scared to try.
Mr. Flynn, Mr. Heafy and Mr. Taylor, are all vocalists in some of the most important Heavy Music bands today. If they weren't "Metal" enough, they would have never dared stepping out of their "comfort zone" and rebelling all for the love of music.
Lets take a look at the differences between an electric guitar and an acoustic guitar:

Last night, TRIVIUM's front man Matt Heafy performed his first-ever solo acoustic set in New York City. The intimate event took place at The MOSCOT Gallery & Music Space, and all proceeds benefited The MOSCOT MOBILEYES FOUNDATION.
Heafy performed a couple of TRIVIUM songs, along with classic songs by Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Opeth and even Depechemode. He also revealed that he has a NEW side project called MRITWU (death in sans-script), which he describes as an extreme Black Metal sonic extravaganza. He plans on releasing it sometime next year, and blames EMPEROR for the musical direction this side project has taken. Heafy does not plan on touring with it, since TRIVIUM is his main focus. However, he did mention that IF he would ever play the songs live, it would have to be with his current band mates: Corey Beaulieu, Paolo Gregoletto and Nick Augusto.
"It was originally intended to be full-on black metal… '90s style, second or third wave black metal." Heafy added that he decided to take the new group in different direction after discussing it with former EMPEROR frontman Ihsahn.
"Somehow we got in touch and I sent the demo along. He started passing a
few things to me to listen to, films to watch, CDs to check out, and it
inspired this band to become this whole other thing. I don't even know
what to call the genre anymore."
He added, "It's not going to play shows. It's just me on vocals, guitar and bass. I'm going to have Nick [Augusto, TRIVIUM drummer] on drums. If it ever did play live, I'll only have TRIVIUM guys play in it. You'll maybe see something with that band a year from now. It's got to be staggered with the TRIVIUM release. So yeah, I'll be doing another thing. I guess you can call it extreme metal."
