On Friday morning, Denver Police confirmed that a masked gunman (James Holmes)
killed 12 people at a midnight showing of the NEW Batman movie: "Dark
Knight Rises". This very sad event took place at a mall in Aurora,
Colorado (a suburb of Denver). The gunman turned joy into tragedy when
he hurled a gas canister into the auditorium and opened fire on
moviegoers.
According to hospital officials, about
fifty others (including children) were wounded in the attack on the
showing of the movie, some of whom were treated for the effects of tear
gas, hospital officials said.
This is obviously extremely tragic news but one of the issues that surfaced after this sad news made International headlines, is the irresponsibility of parents who bring small children to a midnight viewing. One of the victims was Veronica Moser-Sullivan, a 6-year old girl.
David Draiman, vocalist and frontman of DISTURBED, never bites his tongue when it comes to controversial issues. Here is what Draiman expressed via Twitter, following a
CNN report which posed the question if infants were too young to be at late-night movie showings. Draiman first wrote "Yes, they are. All you parents out there that think it's OK to
take your infants out on the town with you, to a movie theater or
otherwise, do the world a favor. Give your children up for adoption to
parents who know what it is to be a responsible parent, and sacrifice on
behalf of their children. Get a damn babysitter.”
He added,
"Maybe we should take infants to nightclubs and restaurants in the late
hours of the night as well? Honestly, fuck off. This is why only certain
people should be allowed the gift of a child. Too many simply aren't
ready for the responsibility.”
