"LIVING LOUD: The American Metal Underground Exposed" Is Coming To America This Fall!
Each year, Project Independent coordinates with promoters throughout the world to find the best, independent Metal artists in the area. They then invite these artists to participate in their exclusive artist showcases, where they perform in front of their peers, and in the presence of Project Independent A&R. The best, most professional artists are then selected to participate in an online voting process where music fans from around the world decide who will be the next Project Independent Featured Artist. Project Independent is ran by Jeff Totten, a man that understands the music business and who works daily in order to improve this amazing event.
This fall, Project Independent presents: "Living Loud: The American Metal Underground Exposed"!
For the third year in a row we will be involved with this awesome movement! And this year our involvement will go way pass the New York based shows. Yes, this is a movement. We truly believe that bands that are smart enough to be part of this massive event are getting excellent exposure, along with very useful data regarding their overall musical careers.
What exactly is our involvement this time around? Well, our founder Jö Schüftan will be MCing every event and he will also be hosting the webcast from every city that the tour hits. We will also be bringing you the latest news from the tour as it happens.
Some out there have said that this is a "pay to play" showcase, when the reality is that bands are given the chance to sell tickets so they can make some money for themselves. No bands have ever been turned down or canceled because they couldn't or didn't want to sell tickets. Bands need to understand that when you are selling tickets, you are investing in your own bands exposure.
One lucky band will get the chance to be part of a nationwide tour for which all costs will be covered. Additionally, there will be global webcast that is run like a professional broadcast... not some shady production that looks and sounds like shit. You all know what we are talking about. This year the event will be headlined by Element A440 from Phoenix, Arizona.
GET INVOLVED!!!

"Underground Music Monday's": FIREHAZE Are Cuba's Definition For Metal Music!
Nowadays Heavy Music needs a band that offers a lethal mix of hard hitting rhythmical grooves, crushing riffs, and a whole lotta soul within the lyrics. In our humble opinion, Cuba's FIREHAZE is one of the only upcoming bands in the world that is offering a very fresh mix of all the elements mentioned above. In times when music is becoming less and less memorable, and fans are switching between bands as often as they change their TV channels because of poor programming, the global Heavy Music scene needs a band that takes our music back to what it used to be like.

In mid 2009 they met Hector, another young Cuban who had recently moved from La Havana. He would become the newest member in charge of the drums. Because of the influences that Hector brought to the band, they immediately started discussing the path they thought the band should take.
The chemistry that was evident between the three the very first time that they jammed together, and due to the fact that they started working around a NEW idea they decided to change the name of the project... This is when FIREHAZE was born.
Through a D.I.Y. campaign, the band has managed to keep on board the Heavy Metal train and have managed to create some high quality songs. You can expect their NEW demo later this year, but for now here is the bands second music video. This video clip is for their song "Enemy":
The band has a few performances coming soon, here is where you can catch them live:
- FIREHAZE will be opening this Wednesday, January 30th for the European band Avatar. The event will take place at The Studio at Webster Hall in New York City.
- FIREHAZE will be performing at Jose Mangin's "Hard Attack Thursday's" this Thursday, January 31st. The event will take place at Dingbarz in Clifton, New Jersey.
- Last, but certainly not least, FIREHAZE will be part of Horns Up Rocks's THREEEEE year anniversary concert and fashion show on Wednesday, February 13th. This massive event will take place at The Trash Bar in Brooklyn, New York. Here is the official event flyer:

Video Premiere of "Untouchable" by Embrace Agony
New York City Melodic Metal power-band Embrace Agony, unleashed their new EP titled "Path to Redemption" on May 22nd at the No Mercy Metal Showcase at Tammany Hall in New York City. While we had always heard great things about this band, once we saw them live and loud is when we understood exactly why they have been making so much noise within the New York City Heavy Music Underground scene. Influenced by bands like Tool, Mudvayne, Lamb of God, In Flames and As I Lay Dying, Embrace Agony have the right mindset and the talent necessary to keep rocking out for years to come!
Today we are proud to debut their brand new video titled "Untouchable"!
- Vital Statistics:
\m/ LINEUP:
- Christian Contello: Vocals
- Nuno Oliveira: Bass
- Kiyomi Kubo: Drums
- Ivan Serge & Matt Stirrat: Guitars
\m/ YEAR OF FORMATION: 2008
\m/ ORIGIN: Brooklyn, New York
\m/ MISSION: To create music that people can feel and relate to, but also allows them to interpret the songs for themselves.
\m/ BIOGRAPHY:
It takes much more than a few typical classifications of genre and image for a band like Embrace Agony to make a personal connection with people. This 5 piece outfit is a sonic representation of what happens when hope dies and anger, sorrow, and dread take over. Formed in Brooklyn NY in early 2008, this band has worked real hard to establish itself in New York City’s underground music scene, relentlessly winning fans to its art through live shows and a restless DIY work ethic. Inspired by the likes of Tool, Mudvayne, Lamb of God, In Flames and As I Lay Dying, Embrace Agony showcases their own aggressive brand of melody-infused Metal.
In early 2011, Embrace Agony completed recording their EP entitled “Path to Redemption” with producer Bryan Goldsman (Emmure, Endwell). With a release scheduled in May, the band organized a Record Release Party. This event was sponsored by a known local Heavy Music showcase company No Mercy Metal and was also a benefit for Japan Tsunami Relief with portion of proceedings donated to help the victims of tsunami. As a result of this performance, Embrace Agony was chosen to be featured on the front page of Reverbnation.com for the second time in less than a year. Additionally, the band has released a music video for their song “Untouchable”.
The band went through a few lineup changes before its current lineup was solidified in late 2010. Founding members, drummer Kiyomi Kubo and guitarist Ivan Serge, added vocalist Christian Contello and bassist Nuno Oliveira, who also provided clean vocal duties. In January 2011, guitarist Matt Stirrat joined the fold. With a full lineup the band completed their new EP, and now is determined to conquer new frontiers. "Our goal is to create music that people can feel and relate to, but also allows them to interpret the songs for themselves" explains Serge.

Weak of Wanting Delivers Gentle Fury

Horns Up Rocks: Lisa, tell us about the formation of Weak of Wanting.
Lisa: The guitarist and I have been jamming on and off since we were in school, and a year and a half ago we decided to make a go for it and form a band together. We just got ourselves a drummer and a bassist, who are still learning the songs with the intention of us all moving on as a 4 piece. Craig (Drums) and Alan (Bass) have been playing in bands together for a few years too.
Horns Up Rocks: Why do you think has helped Weak of Wanting gain a decent amount of fans in such a short period of time?
Lisa: I think that keeping up with the fan-base helps... talking to the fans and not just throwing status messages up and ignoring them when they ask questions, we see a lot of bands that do this and we hear there fans complaints about it. We stay active and have constant promotion, networking and we also helping out other musicians, promoters... all of which often involves very little sleep and what seems like very little come back, but maybe it is paying off, I hope it is.
Horns Up Rocks: How influential was the British Wave of Heavy Metal to the bands music?
Lisa: It was very influential on Craig and Alan but less so on myself and Ben the guitarist, as we are not the Metal heads in the band.
Horns Up Rocks: What's the message that Weak of Wanting wants to convey to the music world?
Lisa: We don't really have a message, we never expected to get this far, we just do what we love doing and hope others can enjoy it or find some comfort in it. We often hear that our music helped people in some way or another, mentally, emotionally or otherwise.
Horns Up Rocks: What's in the agenda for Weak of Wanting for the next year?
Lisa: The plan is to get a decent CD out to the fans as we've promised, hopefully do some more shows and festivals preferably as a 4 piece. A decent record deal would always go down nicely but otherwise I'll keep on at it myself, which doesn't look like too much of a daunting prospect considering all the very poor record labels out there that are dying on there arses 10 to the dozen anyhow.

- Artist Biography:
Weak Of Wanting are a new and quickly rising act in the Alternative Rock scene, in their first year they have already been MySpace band of the week, are the highest rated band on Vampirefreaks.com (a leading alternative culture website) and have amassed well over 10,000 fans worldwide. The band has a vibrant and active internet community surrounding them, meaning that wherever they play they will have support. Their influences are PJ Harvey, Alter Bridge and The Smashing Pumpkins.
Lisa (the vocalist) is the face and epic voice of Weak of Wanting. Though she looks sweet and innocent she is known for her powerful vocal range and haunting timbre. She spent a lot of her early singing career in punk bands and since leaving them, has spent many years training and refining her vocal style which is now unique and beautiful. Her writing style is almost sub conscious and is on a very emotional level but despite this she is a very professional musician and remains humble about her looks and rising fame, she speaks directly to her fans all the time and feels very strongly that the band should take the time to thank people for the support whenever they can.
Ben (guitarist) has spent almost as long being a sound engineer as he has playing the guitar and spends a great deal of time considering the shaping of the bands overall sound. His original idea was to try and create a lot of dynamic and ambient changes to suit Lisa’s voice and showcase his own abilities, knowing they only had two instruments he filled there mixes with a mixture of contrasting mixture heavy overdubs and minimalism to create the dynamic shifts he wanted as well as a combination of drone notes and open voiced chords to add harmonic interest.
Craig and Alan are both friends of each other and Ben, as he recorded one of Alan’s earlier Metal projects, although they are very recent additions to the band they are formidable song writers in there own right and very experienced musicians. The early practices have been excellent the band gel incredibly quickly and were able to improvise fluidly from the very first day. There addition to the band has been the stepping stone Weak Of Wanting have been waiting for to go out and do some real gigs and finally connect in person with there large fan group
