VAN HALEN Officially Cancel A Slew Of Tour Dates!
The 31 Van Halen concert dates that were postponed in May have now been officially cancelled. Various reports suggested that the band was burned out from performing 48 shows over several months of touring.
The band will play Japan in November, and rumors persist of an Australia tour late this year, and/or another US tour next year.
The band will play Japan in November, and rumors persist of an Australia tour late this year and another US tour next year.
From Pollstar:
When dozens of summer dates were removed from Van Halen’s website in May without an explanation, it wasn’t clear whether the dates would eventually be rescheduled. Now the dates are officially listed as canceled.
All dates after the rock band’s June 26 concert in New Orleans were called off, a total of more than 30 gigs. Although Van Halen hasn’t posted an announcement on its website, if you check out the band’s list of dates on Ticketmaster.com, you’ll find that shows including Uncasville, Conn.; Baltimore; Rochester, N.Y.; Detroit; Toledo, Ohio; Memphis, Tenn.; Sacramento, Calif.; Reno, Nev.; and Milwaukee are now marked in red as canceled. As of post time, not all shows on Ticketmaster are listed as canceled.
Refunds are available at the point of purchase. Tickets purchased online or by phone will be automatically credited to your credit card.
In May, days after the dates were first pulled, David Lee Roth posted a video explaining that despite rumors, the “band is getting along famously.”
Diamond Dave didn’t say whether fans should hold onto their tickets and wait for new dates to be announced. Instead, this is what he had to say about why the tour had been cut short:
“As usual, we bit off way more than we could chew when it came to scheduling. The band is winning but our schedule has been sidelined for unnecessary roughness. If we continue past July 4 and all the way into Australia and Japan then we’re asking for the robot zombie tour.”
USA Today published an interview with Eddie Van Halen and his son Wolfgang earlier in June in which the elder Van Halen used the same idiom as his bandmate.
“We bit off more than we could chew. This record took a lot out of us. And we went on tour earlier than we wanted to so we could play Madison Square Garden (in March, before a renovation), and that threw the schedule out of whack.”
He added that Van Halen planned to play Japan in November “and in the New Year, we’ll possibly do something special, but I can’t talk about it.”
The cancelled dates are:
- 7/7: Uncasville, Ct., Mohegan Sun Arena
- 7/9: Hampton, Va., Hampton Coliseum

Philip Hansen Anselmo Celebrates his 44th Birthday - Here Are His Most Famous Quotes!
The voice of PANTERA and DOWN, the legendary Philip hansen Anselmo, arguably the most controversial frontman in Heavy Music history, is celebrating his 44th birthday today. Philip was born on June 30, 1968, in New Orleans, Louisiana. His musical career has not only impacted millions of screamers worldwide thanks to his work with PANTERA, DOWN, SUPERJOINT RITUAL and various other side projects, but today he is also the owner of Housecore Records: a record label that specializes in underground music. Here is Anselmo in his very own words:
"Let me hear you make some noise before we get out of here, let me hear you loud... That sucks! Let me hear you louder! Now listen to me. When we came on this goddamn stage we said that we are the Kings of Metal, and I do believe that fucking wholeheartedly... because I'll tell you right now: We are the ones that never let you down and fucking sold out on you and kissed ass to the goddamn fucking status quo. We are a Heavy Metal band man! We are a fucking Heavy Metal band! And goddamn we are great... oh shit, we are awesome! Goddamn!" - Phil Anselmo on stage at the end of their performance at Ozzfest 2000 (Pantera's last appearance at Ozzfest)
"I may be loaded. I may be drunk. But I ain't stupid." - Phil Anselmo while on tour in 1996
"If I have to pick five songs, they are: At Dawn They Sleep by Slayer, The Battle of Evermore by Led Zeppelin, Drowning Man by U2, Blind by Swans, Painted Black by the Rolling Stones, A Day in the Life by The Beatles, and I got one more, The Prophet Song by Queen". Phil Anselmo answering his fans questions via Ustream in 2010.
"Speaking of stage freight. I was terrified! It was in NOLA at an all ages show. I was wearing Jeans, a Van Halen t-shirt, and a bandana on my neck. Once I gripped that microphone stand I did not let go! I plugged my microphone into a guitar FX pedal. Then at the end of the a Black Sabbath song we were covering, I hit the guitar pedal. It was horrific!" - Phil Anselmo discussing his first time onstage
"If you see a guy holding his girl to this next song, knock him on his fucking ass!" - Phil Anselmo while on stage in Europe with Pantera in 1997
"Burn this motherfucker to the ground if ya'll want!" - Phil Anselmo on stage at Ozzfest 2000 in Nashville. The place was destroyed after the show, as a result Ozzfest was banned for 4 years in Nashville.
"Don't underestimate the kid, you're fucking crazy if you do. And I am the kid!" - Phil Anselmo while taping "Pantera: Behind the Music" for VH1.
"I thought I could do anything and there wasn't a damn thing that could beat me... I was wrong." Phil Anselmo discussing his former addiction to heroine.
"Drink beer, smoke dope, and eat pussy until your jaw breaks!" - Phil Anselmo while on stage with Superjoint Ritual at Ozzfest 2004
"I've always been and had a mentality for what the alternate kid would want to hear and I don't necessarily mean alternative, because alternative - the use of the word over the years - has made the entire situation unalternative. About as unalternative as it gets." Phil Anselmo ranting about Alternative Music
"Actually I have no idea what I just said, but I love ya'lls response!"
"I can easily say I've done everything I've wanted in music." - Phil Anselmo

Randy Blythe Is A FREE Man, But His Nightmare Is Not Over Yet!
After spending nearly four days in a Czech prison, LAMB OF GOD's frontman Randy Blythe is a free man! According to the Czech news site Blesk.cz, Blythe appeared in court around 10 AM today for a hearing in connection with the death of a fan more than two years ago.
Blythe, who was arrested Wednesday (June 27) at the Prague airport on manslaughter charges, was reportedly released on a 4 million Czech Koruna bail (approximately $200,000 — an amount which, according to the site, Randy claimed was the equivalent of his annual income). Since most banks are closed this weekend, Blythe will be allowed to pay off his bail on Monday (July 2). The singer, who did not speak at his hearing and was "timid as a lamb", was considered a flight risk by the judge.
LAMB OF GOD guitarist Mark Morton — who, along with the rest of the band, is in Prague, tweeted a few hours ago, "Today just turned into a FANTASTIC day!!!"
Blythe, 41, who was represented by two lawyers in court, is accused of causing the fatal injury that occurred at LAMB OF GOD's May 24, 2010 show in Prague. The singer apparently either pushed or struck a 19-year-old fan named Daniel who had come on stage, and that person died 14 days later of bleeding in the brain.
According to WTVR-TV, another Czech online news site, Aktualne.cz, has published statements from a witness — a friend of the victim — who said the fan wasn't using drugs or alcohol and fell back directly on his head. The victim lapsed into a coma and died two weeks later.
The crime of which Blythe is being accused is punishable by up to ten years in prison, according to popular Czech news web site Novinky.cz. Here is a picture of Randy Blythe in court.
Here is what Willie Adler had to say about this unfortunate situation!

LAMB OF GOD's Willie Adler Comments On The Arrest Of Randy Blythe!
As previously reported by Novinky.cz, a Czech news site, Blythe was arrested yesterday in Prague, Czech Republic on charges of manslaughter. The arrest is a result of an altercation that Blythe had with a fan on a concert that took place on May 24, 2010 in Prague. Allegedly, a fan went on stage during the show and Blythe violently kicked the fan off the stage. The fan then fell hard on the floor and hurt his head; he ended up losing his life due to internal bleeding. Here is a statement from Czech Police regarding Blythe's prison sentence, IF convicted.
“For bodily injury resulting in death under section 146, paragraph 4 of the criminal code threatens Blythe five to ten years in prison.”Here is a statement from Willie Adler regarding this matter:
"It's been a rough couple of days. All I can say is that I can't recall that particular show let alone a fan being beaten on the stage. I think I would've noticed something like that considering the Dime thing.
"We're all still here in the Czech Republic awaiting what is to happen. We hope we'll be able to get Randy out this afternoon. All our thoughts are with him as well as the family of the deceased fan. We have no real clue as to what happened to him, but we send our condolences. All we try to do is entertain; the fans are why we're here. We would never try and harm anyone."

The event has been gaining mainstream media attention and getting larger and larger each year, with its organizers, Insane Clown Posse, welcoming hip-hop, Hard Rock and Metal performers, professional wrestlers, and comedians to the event's multiple stages, including everyone from Ice Cube, George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic, and Method Man and Redman to GWAR and Charlie Sheen. LAMB OF GOD: Randy Blythe Update From The Bands Publicist!
Graphic by: Bullspike Radio
Here is a press release from Adrenaline PR, LAMB OF GOD's PR firm:
LAMB OF GOD management will be issuing an official statement on Monday regarding the charges made against singer Randy Blythe. As no formal charges have yet been made and the case is only in the investigation stages, it would be premature to make an official statement filled with false truths or innuendos.
Having said that, management wished to address today one false piece of information that has been included in many of the news stories released so far. Under no circumstances was there a fight of any kind involved. This incident deals with a fan that three times during the concert jumped the barricade and rushed Randy during the performance. It is alleged that the third time, security was not able to reach him and that Randy pushed him back into the audience where supposedly he fell and hit his head.
Again, until the investigation is concluded this weekend, nothing more will be released, but clarity and the facts needed to be addressed on this one reported point which is totally inaccurate. Click here to read more about this incident.

Mötley Crüe: Tommy Lee Loves You, But Don't Ask Him For A Picture!
"Dear fans,
"I fucking LOVE my fans! And you know this!!!... If you asked anyone that knows me really well, they would tell ya the same thing... 'Tommy loves his fans. He lives for this shit... he eats, breathes, shits music 24/7'. They'll also probably tell ya that 'he's a down-to-earth grateful life-lovin dude and a nice guy, too'.
"What I have a problem with is... taking pictures! I hate it! Irritates the fuck out of me when people say... 'You owe it to your fans, they put you where you are, etc. etc.'!
"I certainly don't owe anybody anything!
"When I bought all my LED ZEPPELIN records and concert tickets, I didn't say, 'One day these fuckers are gonna owe me a picture', It's the least they can do for me!...
"[What the fuck], people? You don't admire something so that it can give back... You just cherish it! And to those who say, 'You should be grateful that people wanna take your picture. Maybe one day they won't want it'! That day can't come soon enough!
"[By the way]… I'm not here to take pictures with you, I'm here to entertain you!
"Nobody put me where I am but ME! They may have helped inspire me with their love for what I do... but I put myself right here where I want to be with a lot of hard work, practice, talent, luck, etc. What I do owe myself and others is being THE BEST I can be! And that's making great music, being a good man, father, lover and human being! We all owe that kinda stuff to ourselves and each other.
"People, do we really need a silly picture?... For what?! Bragging rights? Really?... Who fucking cares! Someone's not gonna believe you if ya don't have the proof pic? Then fuck 'em! I'd never go up to someone that I admired and bug them for a picture!! Why! I might say a quick hello... maybe a handshake? I dunno... It depends on the 'situation'... Most people never consider the 'situation'. That's really important... Ya wouldn't wanna handshake standing at the pisser in the men's bathroom next to me, would ya? And yes, that's happened to me, too... Or when you're eating a nice, quiet meal with your family, some rude jackass comes up and asks for a picture!
"You can't even imagine what kinda crazy has happened to me. I understand the excitement and all, but just take a second and think... Is this cool right now? It's called consciousness; it's the quality or state of being aware of an external object or something within oneself. Be conscious.
"So like I said… the fastest way to get me to leave is whip out a camera! Maybe just say hello and I'll probably take ya home with me! Well, I'd have to ask my girlfriend first! Hah!
"Sincerely yours, The Picture Taker Hater! Tommy Lee"

Vote For The HOTTEST Chicks In Hard Rock & Metal!
It’s safe to assume that anyone reading these lines is aware of a publication called Revolver Magazine and their annual "Hottest Chicks In Hard Rock and Metal" issue. The hotness of the women presented there can be argued according to one’s personal taste, but that’s not the point. Revolver and its editor got endlessly bashed online for the latest issue on the grounds of it objectifying women and that the magazine highlighted their looks instead of their musical talents (which, frankly, are also questionable and taste-accountable).
On September 4, the seventh annual "Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock and Metal" issue hits newsstands, and REVOLVER want to know who you want to see in the issue and on the cover. So cast your vote for the single most beautiful and badass babe in Heavy Music right now, and help us decide who makes the pages of the mag! You can vote HERE, or on Twitter with the hashtag #hottestchicksinhardrock, or by emailing Letters@RevolverMag.com with the subject line “Hottest Chicks in Hard Rock”.

Randy Blythe Locked Abroad After Killing A Fan? #BreakingNews
Randy Blythe from LAMB OF GOD is known for not taking any sh&t from anybody! According to Novinky.cz, a Czech news site, Blythe has been arrested in Prague, Czech Republic on charges of manslaughter. The arrest (which happened today) is a result of an altercation that Blythe had with a fan on a concert that took place on May 24, 2010 in Prague. Allegedly, a fan went on stage during the show and Blythe violently kicked the fan off the stage. The fan then fell hard on the floor and hurt his head; he ended up losing his life due to internal bleeding. Here is a statement from Czech Police:
"We have arrested singer year 1971, which was accused of a crime of bodily harm in the 4th paragraph, thus resulting in death", said Prague police spokeswoman to news Kropáčová Eve with the fact that the police will have more things to say.
The band was scheduled to perform at the Rock Café in Prague tonight with All Shall Perish and Skeletonwitch; according to this link Lamb of God was forced to cancel this evenings performance. Fan-filmed videos of the concert in question can be seen HERE, and none of the videos show any kind of incident happening. This supports Lamb of God’s longtime publicity firm Adrenaline PR's comments that Blythe has been “wrongfully accused, lawyers are dealing with it, and we expect him to be fully exonerated.”

TOMAHAWK To Return From Hiatus; NEW Album Announced Via Trailer + Live Performance In October Announced!
Tomahawk, the eclectic Rock band featuring Duane Denison (The Jesus Lizard, Unsemble), Trevor Dunn (Fantomas, Melvins Lite), Mike Patton (Mondo Cane, Faith No More) and John Stanier (Battles, Helmet), is set to release 'Oddfellows' this January.
“It’s dark and claustrophobic here, light and spacious there”, says Denison of the NEW album. “Live in the studio, all together in one room. 'Oddfellows indeed'”. 'Oddfellows' was recorded at Easy Eye Sound Studio in Nashville (which is owned by The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach) and co-produced by Tomahawk and Collin Dupuis (The Black Keys, The Nocturnals).
As Denison recently told Rolling Stone, Tomahawk is essentially re-launching after a lengthy hiatus. 'Oddfellows' is the band’s first NEW album in five years and marks the addition of bass player Trevor Dunn (Patton’s longtime cohort dating back to their teenage years in Mr. Bungle). Tomahawk’s first live performance in nearly a decade is slated for the New Orlean’s Voodoo Music and Arts Experience in late October. Additional dates will be announced soon, so stay tuned!

CROWBAR & DOWN's Kirk Windstein Comments On The Passing Of "Obamacare"!
Today, the Supreme Court in a landmark ruling, upheld President Obama's health care overhaul, including the controversial requirement that most Americans have health insurance.
The court handed Obama a campaign-season victory in rejecting arguments that Congress went too far in requiring Americans to have health insurance or pay a penalty.
Chief Justice John Roberts announced the court's judgment that allows the law to go forward with its aim of covering more than 30 million uninsured Americans. Click here to read more about this breaking story!
Here is what Kirk Windstein (Crowbar, Down & Kingdom Of Sorrow) had to say about this:
"IF I CAN'T AFFORD HEALTH INSURANCE NOW, BECAUSE UNLIKE HALF OF THE COUNTRY, I ACTUALLY PAY TAXES, HOW IN THE HELL WILL I BE ABLE TO AFFORD IT THEN? WHERE'S MY GOVERNMENT HANDOUT? THIS COUNTRY IS FUCKED!!!"
As previously reported, NOLA's supergroup DOWN is scheduled to release four EP's dubbed as 'Down IV' throughout the next four years. During a recent interview the bands riff meister Kirk Windstein announced that the first EP, which contains six songs, should be out this summer!
“They’re kind of a throwback to what we were doing at the very beginning, on the NOLA record (Down’s 1995 platinum debut). I think the fans are going to love it. Windstein names "Misfortune Teller" as one of his favorite tunes from the upcoming EP.
Down's NEW EP will feature the following songs in no particular order:
- 'Levitation'
- 'Witchtripper'
- 'The Misfortune Teller'
- 'The Curse Is A Lie'
- 'Open Coffins'
- 'This Work Is Timeless'

RANDY RHOADS' Biography "You Can't Kill Rock N' Roll" In The Works!
Though only on this planet a short time, the influence and legacy of Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Randy Rhoads continues to grow. After much anticipation, a NEW biography about the guitar legend is set for release.
The book, written by Steven Rosen and Andrew Klein, published by Velocity Books and simply titled ‘Randy Rhoads,’ vividly documents Rhoads’ life and career. Written in the form of an oral history, it documents Randy’s remarkable life through those who knew him best, and is loaded with countless tales of the man, both emotional and poignant. It is also crammed full of hundreds of rare photographs and memorabilia. In other words, a veritable bonanza for Rhoads fans!
Before his tragic death at the age of 25, the man born Randall Williams Rhoads had already gained a loyal following and turned the heads of many a fellow guitarist during his time with Osbourne. His playing on songs like "Crazy Train", "Mr. Crowley", and "Flying High Again", should have been the first chapter in a long story but, unfortunately we know the story was cut short. Much has been documented about Ozzy, but in general, little has been told about the guitar virtuoso.
It’s hard to believe it has been over thirty years since Randy was killed in a plane crash. Since that time, Marshall Amplifiers have created a custom amplifier that bears Randy’s name and signature sound, while Jackson Guitars have sold millions of Randy Rhoads model guitars. A testament to his influence. Time has done nothing to diminish interest in the man and his playing, and this book is looking to provide deeper insight into Randy, the man, the myth, the legend.
