Defiler To Re-release Debut Album ‘Pangaea’ On CD Thanks To Stillborn Records!

In October 2010, after a few months living in the studio working on demos and recording, Castro Valley, California’s Defiler released their own debut album, "Pangaea", as a digital album only. Soon after, scraping together enough money from digital sales of "Pangaea", the band shot their first ever music video for ‘Cryomancer’. Once ‘Cryomancer’ went viral it spread like wildfire, garnering thousands of views within the first few weeks of its release and accumulating over 1.25 million YouTube views to date.

The viral success of the ‘Cryomancer’ video immediately caught the attention of Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed, Jasta, Kingdom of Sorrow) and Stillborn Records. Shortly thereafter, Defiler vocalist Jake Pelzl and Jasta started working together on re-issuing "PANGAEA" as a physical CD for the first time ever.  Due to popular demand, Stillborn Records is now fast tracking the re-issue of "PANGAEA" and making it available for a limited time as a CD/T-shirt bundle.

The re-issue of "PANGAEA" was remixed/re-masterd by Zeuss (Hatebreed, Shadows Fall, Emmure, Chimaira) also includes ‘Wild Wasteland’, a never before released bonus studio track. The "Pangea" re-issue will also include new artwork designed by Mike D from Darkicon Design (Killswitch Engage).

Defiler recently signed a new record deal (with a new label home) with additional details are set to be announced shortly. The band and is currently hard at work on the follow up to "Pangaea" with an expected first quarter 2012 release.

Defiler is:

Jake Pelzl (Founding member and vocalist)
Ethan Lewis - (Guitar)
Ian Poole - (Drums)

Jamey Jasta Explores a NEW Facet as a Musician with his Solo Album!

Hatebreed and Kingdom Of Sorrow front-man Jamey Jasta is never busy enough and is always searching for the next musical high. His latest adventure finds Jasta joining forces with various top notch Heavy Music musicians and presenting to the masses his debut solo album titled "Jasta". When we first talked to Jasta about this new project, he made it very clear that it all came to life when he realized that he had written a ton of good songs that didn't fit with the sounds of Hatebreed and/or Kingdom Of Sorrow.

While some may say that he is simply releasing a new project because of the money, we couldn't disagree more. The whole album is a very honest and diverse approach, and thanks to musicians like Zakk Wylde from Black Label Society, Randy Blythe and Mark Morton from Lamb Of God, the album features a potpourri of songs that showcase Jasta experimenting with different singing styles.

In times in which there is a lack of diversity within the Heavy Music world, it is refreshing to be able to listen to an album that takes the listener into various soundscapes right from beginning to the end. If you are a fan of Hatebreed or Kingdom Of Sorrow, listen to the album with an open mind as you will find Jasta not just screaming, but also harmonizing. With this new solo album Jamey Jasta is proving that he is always working on improving his musical craft, which is what makes him a force to be reckoned with.

Track listing:

01. Walk That Path Alone
02. Mourn The Illusion
03. Screams From The Sanctuary
04. Nothing They Say
05. Anthem Of The Freedom Fighter
06. Something You Should Know (Ft. Phil Labonte of All That Remains)
07. Set You Adrift
08. Enslaved, Dead or Depraved (Ft. Randy Blythe of Lamb of God)
09. With A Resounding Voice (Ft. Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying)
10. The Fearless Must Endure (Ft. Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society)
11. Heart Of A Warrior (Ft. Mike Vallely)
12. Death Bestowed (Ft. Mark Morton of Lamb Of God)

"It is a little something different for me and I hope you guys dig it. There are a lot of collaborations, a lot of clean vocals, and there are different styles of riffing. It is still heavy and aggressive. There is some screaming, but I tried some different things to change up the recipe a little bit."

Jasta debuts NEW song featuring Zakk Wylde

As we had previously mentioned, Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed, Kingdom Of Sorrow) has a solo album coming out on July 26 via EONE Music and just by hearing this new track he recorded with the almighty Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society), we're pretty sure that this album will be another hit for the hardest working man in Heavy Music.

The birth of "Jasta" is a result of Jamey having so much music to share, that he decided to produce another project. Some may ask why the hell is he starting another project? Well, Jasta felt that with so many songs that he has created throughout the years that didn't make it into either Hatebreed or Kingdom of Sorrow, that it would dope for the fans to get some new material this summer. Jasta's new project will be released this summer via EONE Music and it will feature a bunch of special guests.

A diverse variety of guest appearances can be found on this record. Tim Lambesis (AS I LAY DYING), pro skater Mike Vallely, Philip Labonte (ALL THAT REMAINS), Randy Blythe and Mark Morton (LAMB OF GOD) and guitar god ZAKK WYLDE just to name a few.

Without further due here is "The Fearless Must Endure", featuring Jamey Jasta and Zakk Wylde:

Here is an interview we did with Jamey Jasta at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards, in which we discuss his new solo album:

Looking for a "Big Break" in Heavy Music?

After covering the Revolver Golden Gods Awards and the Big 4, we realized that Heavy Music is evolving very quickly and if any artists out there don't jump on board the crazy train of Heavy Music in full force, they will probably be left behind. We have news for every artist out there: if you are laying back waiting for your "big break" because you believe your music is the sound of the future, you might as well just go to sleep now because maybe in your dreams your "big break" might become a reality.

While the music industry is suffering because of very low record sales, the artists that are embracing the D.Y.I. (Do It Yourself) approach, are the ones that are rising above the hard tides. This method applies to any successful business and its evident that if used wisely it can help to improve anybody's career.

Here are some very useful tips for any artists that want to get their music heard and most importantly to stand out from the flood of artists that are trying to catch their "big break":

When PERFORMING:

- Be careful about booking gigs too often within the same area, last thing you want is to seem like you are desperate for gigs. Your goal should be to always draw the biggest number of fans possible at every gig, this is the only way you will keep getting booked and eventually will be asked to perform at high profile gigs. Also, make sure you are cordial both on and off stage, and make sure you stay at the event so you can greet your fans. Chances are that you need new fans, so why go hide from them?

- Regardless of how miserable you might be feeling, be very positive while on stage. The people that are there to see you, are there for you to uplift their spirits and not to hear you whine about your misery. Oh, and make sure your gear is in tune, that all your cables work well, and that you are ready to rock!

- Setup your merchandise in a visible spot within the venue, and make sure its well lit. Also, while you are not on stage it's a great idea to be at the merch table since there wont be a better person then yourself to sell your own brand.

When MARKETING:

- If you produce a music video that you hope helps to get some attention, do not cut any corners. It is really easy to identify a low budget badly produced video, so don't diminish you chances of being seen or heard by having a shitty video. Also make sure to post the video on YouTube, Vimeo, and Muzu TV.

- Social tools like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter can help any artist not only to have a close interaction with their fans, but to also keep them updated about new releases and upcoming gigs. However, the only way to stand out from the millions of artists that use these tools is to keep updating these pages constantly, otherwise you will have little to no impact.

- A solid website! Just because there are free social networking tools out there, does not meant that you don't need a well designed website. The internet is ever changing, but a solid website can be timeless and it will psychologically make your fans think that you already caught that "big break".

- Distribute your music in a Digital format via I-Tunes, CD Baby, etc. One great way to encourage people to buy your music is to give out a song for FREE on an MP3 card (that contains your logo and URL) at your gigs. This will give your fans a sense of importance since you are interacting with them face to face. While giving out a CD can also be efficient, today's digital generation might not even bother listening to the CD, but will most likely use the MP3 card to download your music to their computer. If they like your music they might buy some more songs or buy your CD at the next show.

When FREE:
- Support other artists, assist networking events, and always carry a business card with you. Every opportunity you have to present your brand to someone else is golden!

We hope you are inspired by this article to get out there and rock out with the right mindset and attitude. And remember that if you want your music to be taken seriously, you need to be able to transmit the message in a professional and original way. Times are changing, so be creative and rise up! \m/

Here is a recent interview we did with one of the hardest working dudes in the music industry: Jamey Jasta from Hatebreed and Kingdom Of Sorrow. On this interview he discusses how he manages to reinvent himself constantly as an enterpreneur and how kids can market their music in order to get solid exposure.
