Philip Anselmo Tag Teamed By Zakk Wylde & Dave Ellefson At The Golden Gods Awards!
Heavy Music history was written on Thursday, May 2 at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles, CA. Not only did the Revolver Golden Gods Awards welcome the elite of the music we all love, but the energy inside the sold out venue was incomparable. Here is a scoop of who won what, and who performed with who.
During the awards ceremony, former PANTERA and current DOWN frontman Philip Anselmo, was tag teamed backstage by BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's leader Zakk Wylde and MEGADETH's own Dave Ellefson. The result was a very cool interview as you will see below.
The entire event was dedicated to SLAYER's Jeff Hanneman, who passed away yesterday morning from liver failure. Details HERE!

Meet the Zakk Wylde "Berzerker Burger" - Images Available!

On your favorite holiday (4/20), BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's leader Zakk Wylde was present at Grill 'Em All for the launch of his very own "Berzerker Burger"!
Described as a monstrous burger with two blackened half pound patties, Eagle Rock Solidarity battered onion rings, white truffle pomme frites, chipotle ketchup, cheddar, and thick cut bacon all smothered in chili, all packed in a bun branded with a Black Label Society skull (of course).
"Doing a Zakk Wylde burger is a dream come true for us because the guy is everything we dig about Metal. We thought, 'What would Zakk Wylde like? Um, yeah, beer and spice!' TWO blackened patties with boozy onion rings, truffle fries, and chipotle ketchup; we know this burg is going to make people meat drunk." - Matt Chernus, co-owner of Grill 'Em All.
According to Metal Hammer, Grill ‘Em All specially commissioned two branding irons with the BLS skull; one for use in the restaurant, and the other, signed by Zakk in a commemorative wooden box, will be auctioned off soon, with the proceeds going to The One Fund—the charity established to assist the families affected by the recent tragedies in Boston (http://onefundboston.org).

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY "Unplugs" Themselves In Los Angeles, CA - Set List & Images Available!
This past Wednesday, March 6, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY leader Zakk Wylde was the center of attention at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, California. The occasion? Wylde and his band performed a very special "unplugged" concert for an upcoming DVD entitled "Unblackened". Our friend Jamie Harvey from Grammy.com, was present at the event and put together a pretty solid review. Here are a few excerpts of her review, followed by some images of Wylde and crew. Enjoy!
- The band's concert at Club Nokia celebrated his career outside of his renowned stint with the legendary Ozzy Osbourne, summarizing his body of work with his early '90s project Pride & Glory, solo albums such as 1996's 'Book Of Shadows', and his catalog with BLS, which spans nearly 15 years.
- The BLS crowd is akin to a biker gang: They all ... and I mean all ... wear BLS back patches adorning vests and coats and BLS shirts. They refer to themselves as "chapters" based on location, and they're all part of a "family." As the chapters assembled, some seated and some standing, and some with a glass of beer or whiskey in hand, they meandered around equipment set up to both live stream the show on AXS TV and to record the performance for a live DVD/CD to be titled 'Unblackened'.
- Set List:
"Losin' Your Mind"
"The Blessed Hellride"
"Sold My Soul"
"Road Back Home"
"Spoke In The Wheel"
"House Of Doom"
"Queen Of Sorrow"
"Machine Gun Man"
"Sweet Jesus"
"In This River"
"Throwin' It All Away"
"Takillya (Estyabon)"
"Won't Find It Here"
"Rust"
"Speedball"
"I Thank You Child"
"Stillborn"

Today (January 14), BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's Zachary Phillip "Zakk" Wylde (born Jeffrey Phillip Wielandt) is celebrating his 46th birthday! And since Wylde never stops reinventing himself, he celebrated his birthday by opening his NEW merch store (video below).
Here are some facts about Wylde:
- He was born in Bayonne, New Jersey.
- Started playing the guitar at the age of 8 and at the age of 14 he worked at Silverton Music in Silverton, New Jersey.
- Wylde grew up in Jackson, New Jersey, and went to Jackson Memorial High School, where he graduated in 1985.
- He would practice playing the guitar as much as 12 hours per day and would often play the guitar almost non-stop between coming home from school and leaving for school the next morning, then sleeping through the school day.

DETHKLOK, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY & DANGEROUS TOYS Members Discuss Late MELDRUM Guitarist Michelle Meldrum!
MELDRUM are pleased to announce that their long awaited third album 'LIFER' is officially out now via REVERSED RECORDS. 'LIFER' was released as a proud tribute to the late MELDRUM founding guitarist MICHELLE MELDRUM. MICHELLE tirelessly spent her career touring the world and sharing the stage with the likes of MOTÖRHEAD, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, SEPULTURA, DANZIG and NASHVILLE PUSSY to name a few. During that time MICHELLE left a everlasting impact on the guitar world. To mark the release some of MICHELE's closest friends GENE HOGLAN (Testament, Death, Dark Angel, Dethklok) JOHN DESERVIO (BLS, Cycle of Pain), JAMES LOMENZO (BLS, Megadeth, White Lion) and JASON MCMASTER (Dangerous Toys, Watch Tower, Broken Teeth) have commented on their fallen friend. 'LIFER' is available now on iTunes, CD Baby and at Reversed Records.
DETHKLOK’s Gene Hoglan states, “It was and still is an honor to know Michelle and it is indeed with great pride that we release 'LIFER'. I know she's watching over us and smiling along with us at this wonderful day. I know I'm a better person for knowing Michelle, and I know she feels all of our love for her, as we feel hers for us. Through tragedy may we find joy, and through 'LIFER' and all her other works, may Michelle find immortality. She'll always be immortal to us. Remember, this is meant to be cranked up.”
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY’s James LoMenzo adds, “Michelle had the amazing ability to conjure almost any guitar style, from her earlier "Steve Vai" styled dexterity to the out and out muscular style that she later carried through with her own band Meldrum. A fine guitarist in the 80's/90's virtuoso tradition and one of the finest people you could ever come to know.”
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY’s John Deservio states, “First off I want to say how much I miss Michelle. She was a beautiful person inside and out and I am blessed to have known her. I miss you and love you Mich, R.I.P. baby.”
DANGEROUS TOYS/WATCHTOWER/BROKEN TEETH’s Jason McMaster adds, “Proud to call her a friend. Michelle Meldrum was and will always be one of my favorite and most inspiring guitarists and real people I've ever known. The world misses her.”

Zakk Wylde Makes Cute Babies & Gives Them Funky Rock N' Roll Names!
Badass guitar legend Zakk Wylde (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, ex-OZZY OSBOURNE) and his wife Barbaranne, welcome their fourth child on independence day: Wednesday, July 4 at 11:40 PM. He weighed in at 8 pounds, 1.3 ounces and measured 21 inches long. The name of the baby?
Sabbath Page Wielandt Wylde
"Me and my immortal beloved, Barbaranne, are blessed to have our fourth little berzerker, Sabbath Page Wielandt Wylde," said Wylde. "He is named after all things beyond Fonzarelli-approved: BLACK SABBATH, Jimmy Page, and my father, Jerome Wielandt, who was a World War II veteran."
When asked in a recent interview with Zoiks! Online if he had any free time coming up in the next couple of years, Zakk replied, "No. I gotta be honest with you, I love working. My kids, the two oldest are in college, the little guy is nine and Barbaranne is 6 ½ months pregnant right now. My friends are like, 'You must be excited you're having another baby.' 'Yeah, we just extended the tour another twenty years.'"
Zakk and Barbaranne have three other children: Hayley Rae, Hendrix, and Jesse. BLACK SABBATH singer Ozzy Osbourne is the godfather of Jesse, and baseball slugger Mike Piazza is the godfather of Hendrix.

Would you dare making fun of badass rocker Zakk Wylde? Of course you wouldn't! Not unless you want to have your ass kicked by "the Berserkers", or perhaps Kerry F'ing King from Slayer! Maybe this is why some of Zakk's closes friends have confirmed to attend the Guitar World magazine’s inaugural “Rock & Roll Roast”, in which Zakk will be verbally abused!
Some of the confirmed roasters are:
- Ozzy Osbourne
- Scott Ian from Anthrax
- Pro wrestler “Stone Cold” Steve Austin
- Comedian Jim Norton
The event is set to take place at the Grove in Anaheim, California, on January 19th, with proceeds going to the MusiCares charity. Sharon Osbourne will act as roastmaster. “Zakk has always called me his mom, but I think my boy needs a good kicking,” said Osbourne.

Judas Priest's "Epitaph Tour" In New Jersey Proves Bands Legacy!
Last night (November 18th), legendary Heavy Metallers Judas Priest performed at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, as part of the North American leg of the "Epitaph Tour". The show was a complete hit as far as the performance of Judas Priest, unfortunately both Black Label Society and Thin Lizzy were turned way down on the PA, which resulted in them sounding diluted. We understand that the headliner, in this case Judas Priest, always wants to sound louder than the opening bands, but in a way the fans are being ripped off by purposely making bands sound weak at a big arena. This needs to be considered by every "big" band, the fans are paying good money to see a good show, not to just to see one band sound good.
Judas Priest performed the following songs.
Battle Hymn
1) Rapid Fire
2) Metal Gods
3) Heading Out to the Highway
4) Judas Rising
5) Starbreaker
6) Victim Of Changes
7) Never Satisfied
8) Diamonds & Rust Joan Baez cover
Dawn Of Creation
9) Prophecy
10) Night Crawler
11) Turbo Lover
12) Beyond the Realms of Death
13) The Sentinel
14) Blood Red Skies
15) The Green Manalishi (With the Two Pronged Crown) - Fletwood Mac cover
16) Breaking the Law
17) Painkiller
Encore - The Hellion
18) Electric Eye
19) Hell Bent For Leather
20) You've Got Another Thing Comin'
Encore 2
21) Living After Midnight
Judas Priest "Epitaph Tour" with Black Label Society and Thin Lizzy (Remaining tour-dates):
- Nov. 19 - Johnstown, PA - War Memorial Arena
- Nov. 20 - Lowell, MA - Tsongas Center
- Nov. 22 - Toronto, ON - Air Canada Centre
- Nov. 23 - Quebec City, QC - Colisée Pepsi
- Nov. 24 - Montreal, QC - Centre Bell
- Nov. 26 - Reading, PA - Sovereign Center
- Nov. 27 - Winston Salem, NC - Lawrence Joel Memorial Coliseum
- Nov. 30 - Tampa, FL - 1-800-ASK-GARY Ampitheatre
- Dec. 1 - Miami, FL - Bayfront Park Ampitheater
- Dec. 3 - Biloxi, MS - Hard Rock Hotel and Casino
As for whether this is really the end of Judas Priest's touring days, guitarist Glenn Tipton said, "We don't plan on retiring. We've said that this is our last world tour. It takes a chunk out of your life — 18 months. We won't be doing any more world tours as such and in many parts of the world, it will be the last time people will get a chance to see us. But we're not gonna stop. We've got an album in the can now, we will start to write with [new guitarist] Richie [Faulkner], there will be more albums, and who knows?! There might be a string of dates that we can manage to do. We're just not gonna do another major world tour. We've been doing it for 40 years and it's time to let the younger bands have the chance."

Black Label Society Presents: 'Glorious Christmas Songs That Will Make Your Black Label Heart Feel Good'!
Black Label Society is without a doubt one of the hardest working bands in Heavy Music today. They also happen to be one of the most original bands of the last decade. When we heard that they were releasing a Christmas EP, we were shocked yet not surprised. Zakk Wylde has always been about expanding his musical horizon and opening the minds of the thousands of 'Berserkers' worldwide. On BLS's Christmas venture entitled "Glorious Christmas Songs That Will Make Your Black Label Heart Feel Good", Zakk created unique instrumental version of classics such as "I'll Be Home For Christmas", "Oh Little Town Of Bethlehem", and "It's A Wonderful World".

In the two decades since Ozzy Osbourne hired him away from his job at a New Jersey gas station, Zakk Wylde has established himself as a guitar icon known and revered the world over. Wylde has won nearly every guitar award imaginable, graced countless magazine covers and is a major influence to a new battalion of rock guitarists.
Writing and recording with Osbourne led to multi-platinum success, inspiring him to create the now iconic Black Label Society in 1998. In the decade plus since, BLS has turned the notion of what a Rock band should be upside down by inspiring legions of fans (known as Berserkers) all over the world to follow the mantra: Strength, Determination, Merciless, Forever (SDMF for short).
Wylde and his Berserkers have established a Heavy Metal institution true to the vision of uncompromising, unfiltered and unrestrained Rock N’ Roll. To date, Black Label Society has sold more than 3.5 million albums worldwide and continues to be a massive presence on the worldwide touring and merchandising circuits. The band is currently touring with Judas Priest, as direct support (tour-dates below).
Black Label Society’s "Order Of The Black", was released in August, 2010 via Entertainment One Music and debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart.
