For weeks already, drumming legend Dave Lombardo was ready to move out of SLAYER after the band refused to offer him a better contract (details HERE). So if there is one person who was not surprised at all in the bands decision to bring Paul Bostaph back as their full time drummer (details HERE), that person was Dave Lombardo.
What's next for Lombardo?
During a recent interview with Greece's Rock Overdose, Lombardo confirmed that Casey Chaos from AMEN will be fronting a resurrected version of GRIP INC. A tour is in currently in the works, and the chances of a NEW GRIP INC. being recorded are very high.
You may recall that Lombardo formed GRIP INC. when he first left SLAYER in 1992. The band had been on and off since it formed, and their future was uncertain due to drummer Dave Lombardo's commitments with and the death of frontman Gus Chambers.
Lombardo is also very busy with his band PHILM (see below). They are currently recording their second studio album, the follow up to 2011's 'Harmonic'. The NEW PHILM should see the light of day later this year!
As previously reported,
ASESINO is preparing to enter the studio to begin recording its third
album, 'La Segunda Venida' ("The Second Coming") for a late 2013 release
via Odio Records.
Prior to laying down the NEW CD, ASESINO will
embark on a short tour, dubbed "Regresando Odio Gira 2013" ("Returning
Hate Tour"):
- Jan. 11: West Hollywood, CA at Key Club - Jan. 12: Las Vegas, NV at Cheyenne Saloon - Jan. 18: San Francisco, CA at DNA Lounge - Jan. 19: Fresno, CA at Starline - Jan. 28: Fullerton, CA at Slidebar
Asesino (assassin in Spanish) is one of the most extreme Heavy Metal
bands today. The chaotic combination of elements of Death Metal and
Grindcore within their music can make a persons eardrums bleed
profusely. Asesino was formed in 2002 after Dino Cazares (Fear Factory)
left Brujeria and decided to create yet another extreme Metal band.
Apart from Dino’s shredding guitars, Asesino features Tony Campos from
Soulfly on vocals/bass and Emilio Marquez from Engraved on drums.
According to Blabbermouth, ASESINO is preparing to enter the studio to begin recording its third album, 'La Segunda Venida' ("The Second Coming") for a late 2013 release via Odio Records.

Similar to Brujeria, the lyrics are all in Spanish and they deal with
the same subject matters: death, violence, and perversion. -
Asesino enjoy making satirical comments during the show, and when they
perform Brujeria songs, they change the original lyrics to something
more fitting. Related links: ASESINO on Facebook
Sandy the bitch strikes again! Earlier today Joey Z (LIFE OF AGONY) announced that his recording studio was destroyed during the horrible storm. Here is a statement from Joey regarding the demise of Method Of Groove Studio, and how he plans to continue making awesome records!
The Bad News:
"After years of hard work that went into the development and brand, Method of Groove Studio has been completely devastated and submerged due to Hurricane Sandy. There is nothing left there. The water level inside the building was believed to be as high as 8 feet. Not only have I lost all the recording gear, I also lost all of my touring gear, dating back to the early 90’s… all of it. I was able to enter the building yesterday after water levels receded down to a couple of feet."
The Good News:
"My family is ok. My friends are ok. My home is ok. I will continue this path of producing and touring. I’ve recorded many bands in other studios before, whether it was America, Europe or Canada, and mixed them back here in NY. My mixing / mastering studio was not harmed since it is in a completely different location. I spoke with my management team, and we are confident with plans moving forward to record clients out of other studios. I have so many great friends both inside and outside the music industry, and feel blessed. I am going to leave the website up and running, and maybe alter it a bit over time. Contacting me for recording, mixing or mastering is still the same, (sans the studio telephone line). For all those who already have been helping and have sent their love and support, I thank you so much. I shot some video yesterday with hope for government, and/or insurance relief, which can be seen below."
While on tour with LIFE OF AGONY in 2005, Joey Z had the vision of owning his own pro studio; A place where he can continue to build the other side of his career, and stay creative in between touring… Very soon after, he got to work. The studio opened in February 2006, and since, has become one of the prime spots in New York State to record. The atmosphere has been described as inspirational, magical, and comfortable. Professionally treated, the studios acoustics definitely deliver, and the proof is in all of the great recordings that have come out of here. Over the years the studio has continued to add stellar equipment to its arsenal. Most recent additions include, a vintage Amek recording console, Aurora converters, and a Neve summing mixer. The sound is phenomenal. There are also two lounges where you can spread out a bit, and a kitchen, complete with everything you would need. Most of all, whether you are a touring professional, or local weekend warrior, you will get the full experience of a top-notch recording studio, and your final product will sound accordingly.
Here is a statement from Joey Z regarding MOG's brand NEW website:
"I'm proud to announce, and reveal, the NEW Method of Groove Studio website. The designer, Anthony Kondyra dedicated many weeks to this over-haul and I couldn't be happier with the results. The addition I'm most excited about is the Artist Vault... Inside you'll find individual pages on all the bands I worked with, complete with samples of music we recorded, video, photos, & bios. Any band that records with me from here on, will have a page in the Vault. It's a vision I had for years. There's also a blog that I will be personally posting news, recording tips, gear recommendations, and basically all studio/Joey Z stuff."
East San Francisco Bay Area/New York Metal outfit BLACKGATES, featuring former ANTHRAX singer Dan Nelson, drummer Paul Bostaph ex-TESTAMENT, EXODUS, SLAYER, FORBIDDEN, and guitarist Jeremy Von Epp, have enlisted Luis Barillas as their NEW bass player.
Bostaph says of Barillas, "Luis is a veteran of the Bay Area Metal scene and a welcome addition to the band". Von Epp added, "He's got that Steve Harris/Geezer Butler vibe on the bass which fits perfect with what were doing, not to mention that he's a solid dude". Nelson also added, "Luis is an amazing bassist and a perfect fit for the BLACKGATES sound. He's a true bro who you know from day one will have your back in the trenches."
Bostaph previously stated about BLACKGATES:
"As you can see by our studio blog #1. We're currently hard at work writing the rest of the material to record and release a record this year. we are shopping for a label at this point. The NEW material is friggin' heavy. We can't wait to unleash it on you! The music is definitely maturing and we are honing in on our sound. The first 3 songs we released were literally the first 3 we wrote. They were written musically without a vocalist. Now that we have Dan, the NEW songs are really heavy as hell and have great hooks! That being said. We're looking to play our first show in May and will be playing all our NEW music. Stay posted and we will update you all as we lock the first show in. Hope to see you all on the road Cheers!"
- Paul Bostaph
BLACKGATES earlier in the year finished mastering its first demo, which the band recorded in the San Francisco Bay Area with producer Tim Narducci (SYSTEMATIC, SPIRALARMS).
BLACKGATES is:
- Dan Nelson (ex-ANTHRAX): Vocals/guitar
- Paul Bostaph (ex-TESTAMENT, SLAYER, FORBIDDEN, EXODUS): Drums
- Jeremy Von Epp: Guitar/Vocals
- Luis Barillas: Bass
As previously reported Paul Bostaph's NEW project is called BLACKGATES, and it features Anthrax's previous singer Dan Nelson, guitarist Jeremy Epp (The Venting Machine) and bassist Uriah Duffy (Whitesnake). The group is currently in the studio working on the pre-production part of their debut album. This is what Bostaph had to say about this NEW project:
"Our sound is drawn from all of our influences. Mostly, we don't want to be a Thrash Metal band, although we draw from that genre as well. There is something in our music for everyone. Heavy grooves, good hooks and Dan's killer pipes. I think we have an independent sound that will stand on its own."
Today, the band released a video update regarding the current progress of their debut album:
BLACKGATES is:
- Dan Nelson (ANTHRAX): Vocals/guitar
- Paul Bostaph (TESTAMENT, SLAYER, FORBIDDEN, EXODUS): Drums
- Uriah Duffy (WHITESNAKE): Bass
- Jeremy Von Epp (THE VENTING MACHINE): Guitar/Vocals
