SOULFLY Working on Album # 10 (SOULFLY Empieza a Trabajar en su Disco # 10)!

As reported by us first, Max Cavalera concluded 2014 by writing NEW music for what is to become SOULFLY's tenth studio album!

Over the weekend, Gloria Cavalera (Max's wife and manager) posted the image you see next to these words with the caption: "Day one... in the studio with Matt Hyde!!!"

Yes, this means that SOULFLY is currently working on their NEW album and that Matt Hyde (SLAYER, CHILDREN OF BODOM, HATEBREED) is producing it. The follow up to 2013's Savages will most likely be released in the Summer or Fall of 2015 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment.

This news comes just months after the release of CAVALERA CONSPIRACY's third studio album entitled Pandemonium (available now via Napalm Records).

Cavalera, who co-founded SEPULTURA, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY and KILLER BE KILLED, recently confessed to us that music is his only addiction after overcoming his addiction to alcohol and drugs over seven years ago.

Watch this revealing video interview below.

This Is How Max Cavalera Met His Wife Gloria & How They Changed Heavy Music For Ever!

Ever since he arrived to the Heavy Music scene in 1984, Max Cavalera has been constantly reinventing his musical craft. While it was his work with the mighty SEPULTURA that helped him become an International Metal Superstar, Max has proven through his additional work with SOULFLY and CAVALERA CONSPIRACY that his musical abilities are extremely multidimensional.

But who helped to shape Max's career? His wife Gloria Cavalera. Gloria actually runs her own blog called Growing Up Green and she recently posted the story about how her and Max met, and how together they changed Heavy Music forever. Read on...

"In 1986, I took on my first band, Sacred Reich. I met Jason Rainey when he was 16 years old and hanging around The Bootlegger, which was my brother, Paul, and my club in Phoenix. Jason came to me one day and told me he had a band. Of course we booked them immediately and my relationship with Sacred Reich began. Life was a snowball, with Metal spreading through the world like a changing Season. We morphed from traveling in the back of a UHaul truck, to circling the globe, tucked in a tour bus. Times were changing quickly and Sacred was soaring in popularity.

Sacred was signed to Metal Blade Records in the US and licensed to Roadrunner Records in the rest of the world. This was the beginning of my 26 year relationship with Roadrunner. One day, early in 1989, I got a phone call from the label, asking me if I would consider managing all Roadrunner bands that had no management. I declined because there were a few acts I didn't want to work with and also, I managed differently than most managers...I traveled with my bands. I wasn't taking on a lot of acts at the same time because I was the manager, tour manager, tour accountant and merchandise seller. It was a lot to handle and I didn't want to dilute the attention I was giving to my acts. I was managing Sacred, Atrophy and dabbling a bit with Forced Entry, from Seattle and did not want to spread myself thin. I did not want to be some out of touch manager sitting in an office, sending my bands out with $5 in their pockets, cramped in a van. No, I was traveling in the same condition as my bands and working my tail off to reach new heights. Touring took a good deal of dedication and I had a clear vision of where I wanted my bands to go. I couldn't do that from an office.

One day, and many times after, Monte Conner, the new A&R from Roadrunner, called me and asked me to manage a new band he had signed from Brasil. I politely refused. I had never met them before; what if we didn't get along with each other? No, I couldn't consider it. I wasn't interested in breaking the standard I had set for myself and my groups.

A couple months later, Sacred got an offer to support King Diamond at the Ritz in NYC, on Halloween night!! We were so excited! This was going to be super cool, not to mention...it was the famous Ritz Theater! I heard Sepultura would be one of the openers, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to meet them and check out their show.

When I arrived at the Ritz, I noticed many other managers checking out Sepultura. The weird thing, all the mangers came up to me and told me not to touch Sepultura, I won't say the reasoning, I felt it was discriminatory and I admit I was a bit surprised to hear the comments. As soon as the Brasilians kicked into their set, I felt such raw energy. I also got this feeling inside of me that I only felt rarely. I can't explain it. It was a sort of premonition. I sat next to Cees Wessels and said, "I will take this band for you." Cees laughed and we chatted for a bit. I went to their dressing room after their set and we all hung out. The guys didn't speak much English and I kept mixing up Max and Igor.

Their tour eventually brought them to the Mason Jar in Phoenix. Dana, Christina and me all went down early to hang out. I was shocked to discover the low level of care the Seps were receiving. For God's sake, Paulo played the entire tour with 1 pick!! Can you imagine, no one could spend a few cents and get him a pick?? They were allowed $5 a day to live on, which I could not believe. What was worse, they had a man traveling with them who said he was their manager/tour manager, but all I could see him doing was making himself a private video collection. The band didn't even have a bottle of water or a towel to wipe their face off!! It was shocking to me. When Max asked for water, this man told him, "get it yourself!" I was speechless. I took Paulo to my house and got him some picks and cruised back to the club.

I took care of the band and got them water, towels and whatever else they needed. After the show, we went to a Motel 6 and had a meeting. They asked me to manage them. I had found out their "tour manager" had signed them to a manager who managed a soul singer(she managed a female artist such as Ertha Kitt or someone similar). This was super strange to me. The band had never even met or spoke with their manager!!! I told them I didn't step on other manager's toes and they would have to free themselves before I worked with them. We said our goodbyes with big smiles on our faces...we knew we would see each other soon. In January, I received a postcard in the mail from Max. It was a Beneath the Remains card with a nice message. I did not expect it.

A month or 2 later, a deal was negotiated and their "manager" was paid a flat fee of $10,000 and the road opened up for me to work with them. And the deal I gave them??? Haha, I said I would work for free for 1 year, to see if we would get along with each other! Now, that was for the love of music!!!"

There you have it folks, the story behind how Max and Gloria Cavalera created a Metal empire! Many thanks to Gloria for allowing us to repost this awesome story. Check her blog out here:

STRIFE Reveal NEW Album Details & Video Teaser!

Southern California Hardcore band STRIFE has signed a recording deal with 6131 Records and will be releasing their forthcoming album, 'Witness A Rebirth' this fall.

Some bands leave such an impression on fans that, even after two decades, their sound still resonates deep and wide. STRIFE is one of them, and once again tapping into the energy that has kept listeners interested for 21 years.

After touring the world recently, they decided it was time to unleash a NEW batch of songs after 11 years of recording silence. The groundwork for what would become their newest album, 'Witness A Rebirth', has been laid and their collective efforts began down the road to realization.

With producer Nick Jett (Terror, Rotting Out, Backtrack) at the helm, STRIFE recruited friend and previous collaborator, Iggor Cavalera (founding member of Sepultura and current Cavalera Conspiracy) to perform drums for the album and traveled to Brazil to start the recording process with him. Soon after, they returned to California and put the rest of the pieces into place, including guest vocals by Billy Graziadei (Biohazard) and Scott Vogel (Terror), plus a guitar solo by Marc Rizzo (Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy). The rest serves as a testament to their talent, bridging their past (especially the contemporary Hardcore sound. 'Witness A Rebirth' is at once both refreshing and evocative.

A teaser video for 'Witness A Rebirth' is available here:

The CAVALERA's, The Real METAL Familia! Interview Available With MAX & His Sons At The Maximum Cavalera Tour!

Ever since he arrived to the Heavy Music scene in 1984, Max Cavalera has been constantly reinventing mis musical craft. While it was his work with the mighty SEPULTURA that helped him become an International Metal Superstar, Max has proven through his additional work with SOULFLY and CAVALERA CONSPIRACY that his musical abilities are extremely multidimensional.

Thankfully, Max has also served as a mentor to his musician sons Richie, Igor and Zyon. While the Cavalera's are not the only Metal family in the Heavy Music world, they are the only family in the Metal world that have shared a nationwide tour in which Max's SOULFLY was supported by INCITE (Richie's band) and LODY KONG (Igor and Zyon's band).

The "Maximum Cavalera Tour" recently wrapped up, and all who attended really enjoyed seeing the Cavalera clan in full force! And we can't forget Max's soul mate Gloria. Gloria has not only been Max's backbone in all of his musical projects, but she has also taught her sons that a strong work ethic and humbleness, will help them achieve their goals while keeping the Cavalera legacy intact!

We recently had the chance to chat with Max and his sons about the "Maximum Cavalera Tour", and how life on the road as a family has made them a stronger family. We also talked with them about Max's involvement in their son's musical careers and how he is making sure that they are learning the business with little to no guidance. Check this exclusive interview out with the Cavalera's, the real Metal familia!

Cavalera Conspiracy return with a "Blunt Force Trauma"

Whenever you put the Cavalera brothers (Max and Iggor) inside a jam room, nobody is safe! As we all know, the Cavalera brothers formed the legendary Brazilian Heavy Metal band Sepultura in 1984, and single handily changed the phase of Heavy Music forever. While neither of them are in Sepultura anymore, they are still spreading artistic terrorism with the music that they have been creating with Cavalera Conspiracy. The other members of the band include: guitar virtuoso Mark Rizzo and bassist Johnny Chow.

Their second album is titled "Blunt Force Trauma" and it will be in stores on Tuesday March 29, 2011. After spinning the record numerous times, at different times of the day, on different days... here is the Official Horns Up Rocks review:

Ever since we heard the first Cavalera Conspiracy album titled "Inflikted" (Released on March 24, 2008), we were immediately hooked with this amazing band. From the get-go, we felt the power behind the songs that we have missed ever since the Cavalera brothers recorded Sepultura's "Roots" in 1995. The only missing element that Cavalera Conspiracy were lacking on "Inflikted", was the redefining of their musical craft that can only be done once a band tours endlessly and learns about each others musical strengths and weaknesses. This is exactly what they proved on their new album "Blunt Force Trauma"

As soon as we started listening to the opening track titled "Warlord", our blood started pumping out of control and our ears starting bleeding profusely. Once "Torture" came on, we started understanding the message that Cavalera Conspiracy want to transmit on their new record. One thing we did not expect, which totally blew our minds up, was the duet on "Lynch Mob" between Max and Roger Miret from the legendary New York Hardcore band Agnostic Front! After clearing the air with our fists, we turned the volume even louder and started headbanging to "Killing Inside" and "Thrasher". All of a sudden, "I Speak Hate" came on and we found ourselves headbanging violently out of control (this might be illegal in some countries).

The second half of "Blunt Force Trauma" is kicked off by the song "Target", which lyrically reminds us of Sepultura's song "Territory". Musically speaking "Genghis Khan" has a similar vibe to the first few Sepultura albums. Concluding the record in true Heavy Metal form, Cavalera Conspiracy left the three most brutal songs of the entire record to the very end. By the time you get to the songs "Burn Waco", "Rasputin" and "Blunt Force Trauma", make sure their is nobody surrounding you because they wont be safe!

This record should be bought and owned by every Heavy Music fan worldwide!

Track listing:
- 1) Warlord
- 2) Torture

Cavalera Conspiracy: Blunt Force Trauma

The mighty Cavalera Conspiracy (featuring the Cavalera brothers) announced today the title of their second album: "Blunt Force Trauma".

This will be the follow up to their 2008 epic release titled "Inflikted", an album which marked the reunion of Max and Iggor Cavalera. The Cavalera's had parted ways when Max left Sepultura in 1996. The Cavalera siblings co-founded Sepultura in 1984. Brazils' Sepultura (grave in Portuguese) redefined and established Heavy Metal outside of the United States and Europe. After Max left the band due to internal problems, the 2 brothers parted ways and didn't talk to each other for over 10 years. After Dimebag's death, Max and Iggor joined forces at the annual "D-Low Memorial Festival". At the event they were unable to refuse/resist the impact of their musical bond and Iggor joined Max on stage and together they jammed some Sepultura songs. Next thing you know, the brothers started Cavalera Conspiracy. The band also features New Jersey's shredder Marc Rizzo (Soulfly), and Johnny Chow on the low end.

Cavalera Conspiracy was on the media spotlight once they released "Inflikted", one big feature was the brothers on the cover of Metal Edge Magazine in an homage to The Blues Brothers. The album was also an instant hit on Sirius XM Liquid Metal that year. "Inflikted" was described as "gobsmackingly violent" and Outburn mused, "If only all family reunions could be this awesome!"

Below is a further sampling of what the press had to say about Cavalera Conspiracy and "Inflikted":

"The brothers who formed Sepultura, putting Brazil on the global metal map in the process, have reunited-personally and professionally-after more than a decade of acrimony, and their new album is a ferocious homecoming indeed." --Revolver, May 2008

"The fruit of their labor, Inflikted, is an explosive flashback to the remorseless thrash and primal groove-metal Sepultura created with 1991's Arise and 1993's Chaos A.D. Although the songs were arranged and recorded quickly, Inflikted sounds neither hastily executed nor incomplete. There's an almost telekinetic connection between Max's riffing and Iggor's drumming-the kind of chemistry that comes only from musicians who learned to play together and honed their craft through years of studio sessions and live shows." --Artist Direct

"From straightforward pummeling death metal to more complex and technical songs, Cavalera Conspiracy hits on all cylinders." --About.com

"For metalheads far and wide, it's nice knowing the Cavaleras are tight again and sounding perhaps better than ever on Inflikted." --MTV News, April 2008

"Inflikted combines the best elements of Soulfly and Sepultura. There's lots of tribal drum beats, and the guitars are fast 'n thrashy." --Hit Parader, March/April 2008

"The band mixes the old with the new to create something fresh." --My City Buzz.com

"Cavalera Conspiracy is not a mercy project, nor is it about cashing in. It's about bringing the metal back." --Ink

"No doubt this will be remembered as one of the most important heavy music releases of 2008, and quite possibly ever." --ARTIST direct

"Given Inflikted's overall high standards, the Cavalera Conspiracy may be around for a while." --All Music

So on March of 2011, you have an appointment with the Cavalera brothers, as they release the second album by their band Cavalera Conspiracy! Why pick it up? Because it will have more impact then a "Blunt Force Trauma" to the head!
