VOLBEAT Prove That Heavy Music Is Alive & Well At Their CD Release Concert In New York City!

If you analyze the name VOLBEAT, you get VOLUME and BEAT. Two elements that the Kings Of Danish Rock N' Roll deliver every single time they step on stage. Last night was no exception.

Yesterday, April 9, VOLBEAT unleashed their highly anticipated fifth studio album entitled 'Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies'! The bands NEW sonic assault was produced by former ANTHRAX guitarist Rob Caggiano, who is now VOLBEAT's lead guitarist!

In celebration of the release of their NEW album, VOLBEAT made the Best Buy Theater in New York City shake all night long! The energy of the crowd was reflected during the bands entire set: there was not one person who didn't have a fantastic time. Not only did the band deliver the rocking goods to over 2000 fans, but it was also the first time that Rob Caggiano, the bands newest family member, performed with VOLBEAT.

The former ANTHRAX guitarist felt the hometown love and couldn't stay still during the entire set thanks to the energy all who attended made him feel. There is no doubt that Caggiano is a lot happier now and this comes across on his guitar playing. He sounded better than ever!

Not only did the band perform many of their classic songs, but they also performed a bunch of NEW songs from
'Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies'. They also paid tribute to Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Slayer and Metallica, among others.

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE Release 'Disarm THE Descent', Here Is Our Review!

The day has arrived, today (April 2) KILLSWITCH ENGAGE are proud to release their sixth studio album 'Disarm THE Descent' via Roadrunner Records. The record is the first one with Jesse Leach on vocals since 2002's 'Alive Or Just Breathing'.

If you have not listened to the bands latest effort, you must! While KSE have always been a great band and have released a lot of good records, this is the ultimate KSE record. As we reported at the end of last year, Jesse revitalized the band as soon as he returned to the fold. He also saved the band from having to call it a day, following the departure of Howard Jones. Read on...

After spending hours at a rehearsal studio in New York City to find the proper replacement for Jones, the band were actually exhausted from endless auditions that were not hitting the sweet spot. After taking a short New York Pizza break, Jesse arrived and the three song audition turned into a full set. While the KSE dudes knew Jesse was the right choice from the moment the jam started, they made him wait a few days before bringing him to the band that he should have never left.

On 'Disarm The Descent', you can tell that all of the band members are very happy not only personally, but creatively. And a happy band writes great music. This words posted yesterday by Jesse say it all:

"Have I told you lately that I love you?

"Spent the day at "Fuse" doing an exclusive interview and it hit me?!! !Tomorrow is the big final release day for "Disarm the Descent"! So grateful for everyone's support and love! It has been a crazy and amazing year for me. Looking forward to getting back on the tour bus in 5 days! Cheers and One Love people!"

The production process itself, which was lead by the bands guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz and mixed by Andy Sneap, is evidence that musical magic was created by the KSE crew:

- Jesse Leach (vocals)

- Mike D'Antonio (bass)
- Adam Dutkiewicz and Joel Stroetzel (guitars)
- Justin Foley (drums)

Here is the track listing:

01. The Hell In Me
02. Beyond The Flames
03. New Awakening
04. In Due Time
05. A Tribute To The Fallen
06. The Turning Point
07. All That We Have
08. You Don't Bleed For Me
09. The Call
10. No End In Sight
11. Always
12. Time Will Not Remain

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY "Unplugs" Themselves In Los Angeles, CA - Set List & Images Available!

This past Wednesday, March 6, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY leader Zakk Wylde was the center of attention at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, California. The occasion? Wylde and his band performed a very special "unplugged" concert for an upcoming DVD entitled "Unblackened". Our friend Jamie Harvey from Grammy.com, was present at the event and put together a pretty solid review. Here are a few excerpts of her review, followed by some images of Wylde and crew. Enjoy!

- The band's concert at Club Nokia celebrated his career outside of his renowned stint with the legendary Ozzy Osbourne, summarizing his body of work with his early '90s project Pride & Glory, solo albums such as 1996's 'Book Of Shadows', and his catalog with BLS, which spans nearly 15 years.

- The BLS crowd is akin to a biker gang: They all ... and I mean all ... wear BLS back patches adorning vests and coats and BLS shirts. They refer to themselves as "chapters" based on location, and they're all part of a "family." As the chapters assembled, some seated and some standing, and some with a glass of beer or whiskey in hand, they meandered around equipment set up to both live stream the show on AXS TV and to record the performance for a live DVD/CD to be titled 'Unblackened'.

- Set List:

"Losin' Your Mind"
"The Blessed Hellride"
"Sold My Soul"
"Road Back Home"
"Spoke In The Wheel"
"House Of Doom"
"Queen Of Sorrow"
"Machine Gun Man"
"Sweet Jesus"
"In This River"
"Throwin' It All Away"
"Takillya (Estyabon)"
"Won't Find It Here"
"Rust"
"Speedball"
"I Thank You Child"
"Stillborn"

TESTAMENT's Alex Skolnick Presents "From Geek To Guitar Hero" In New York City - Review Available!

Yesterday
(January 17), TESTAMENT's Alex Skolnick took center stage at Tammany Hall New York City to present his brand NEW book "From Geek To Guitar Hero". Here is what went down.

In typical Skolnick fashion, the event was full of really good music and an awesome vibe. We must say that it was a real awesome treat seeing him perform in such an intimate setting, and what was really cool is that he didn't just read snippets from his book. Instead, he first read a few snippets and then talked about parts of the book. Eventually, he related various stories within the book by performing a song that had to do with that particular story. The fans definitely loved Skolnick's unique way of launching his book.

Skolnick was joined on stage by many of his musician friends, including young kids who are following his foot steps. And make no mistake, they rocked the hell out of cover songs by JUDAS PRIEST, AC/DC, METALLICA, LED ZEPPELIN, and many more.

The book is a must read for any Heavy Music fan. What we really think sets this book apart is the fact that Skolnick didn't make this an autobiography per say, instead he shares stories of how his journey through the music industry started and how it evolved into what it is today.

The first book-store where 'Geek to Guitar Hero' is available is at McNally Jackson, New York. http://mcnallyjackson.com/
Here is the book synopsis:

"Alex is an awkward, introverted child growing up in 1970s Berkeley, California – a confusing vortex of shifting values, rampant drug use and social confusion. Misunderstood by his family and taunted mercilessly by classmates, he suffers from a paralyzing lack of confidence and low self-esteem. His existence is made tolerable when he discovers a superhero-like Rock band, KISS, which inspires him to learn the guitar. While in high school, he auditions for Legacy – a group of hard partying, working class, twenty-something Metalheads from the East Bay suburbs. After recording his first album with the group at age eighteen, he defies his Ivy League parents’ rigid academic expectations by forgoing college and hitting the road with Metal bands including Slayer, Megadeth, White Zombie and Judas Priest. As his own band, now known as Testament, rises through the ranks of Thrash Metal, the world begins to take notice of the young guitar prodigy who, despite being fawned over by autograph-seeking Metalheads, guitar fanatics and adoring female fans, still feels the pain, awkwardness and ghosts of his past. Soon, a blooming interest in Jazz and literature reshapes his values and strengthens his musicianship, bringing further accolades from fans and media but causing resistance and tension from within his inner circle. These experiences cause a realization to unfold: that the scene in which he had first sought his freedom and self-identity is fraught with its own perilous limitations, while the education he’d so fiercely resisted from his family can be invaluable when sought on one’s own terms."

Very soon, TESTAMENT will be taking over North America with OVERKILL, FLOTSAM & JETSAM (on select dates), and 4ARM, for their first headlining tour since the release of their phenomenal chart success 'Dark Roots of Earth' (available now via Nuclear Blast Records). The trek promises to be one of the best Thrash Metal lineups of the year! More information HERE!

Earlier this week, we chatted with the bands vocalist Chuck Billy about the upcoming tour, and how the band plans to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Listen to it here:

The MAXIMUM CAVALERA Tour Proves That The Cavalera Legacy Is Intact!

Max Cavalera's reach for musical horizons that have never been reached before is what has established him as one of the most influential Heavy Music musicians of all time. And now his kids are following his footsteps! The "Maximum Cavalera" tour is in full effect, and for the first time ever the fans are getting the chance to see Max's kids with their bands INCITE (Richard Cavalera's band) and LODY KONG (Zyon & Igor Cavalera's band)!

This Friday, the "Maximum Cavalera" tour visited the city that never stops rocking! Apart from the Cavalera clan, the show featured performances from WYKKED WYTCH and our friends from IRATETION. Here is our recap of this great show!

Usually when you have an early show (this one started at 5:40) the venue is pretty much empty. Well, this time around New Jersey badass Metallers IRATETION made sure that this wasn't the case. Ever since we came across IRATETION, we knew that their energetic music would transmit beautifully on a big venue with a proper sound system. This was definitely the case!

Following IRATETION, were Miami's own WYKKED WYTCH! If you think Miami, Florida has no place in Heavy Music think again. Not only did they deliver a perfect blend of Blackened Death Metal a la GOATWHORE, but they get the crowd moving thanks to Ipek's great presence and energy!

                                                  IGOR CAVALERA (Lody Kong)

Next it was time for the first Cavalera's to hit center stage and prove why the Cavalera legacy is not to be messed with. While LODY KONG still needs some work within their musical craft, the energy of the band reminded us of THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN! While Igor Cavalera has an air to NIRVANA's Kurt Cobain, his vocal style is scream based and not harmony based. And hey, Zyon Cavalera's drumming proves that he has uncle Igor's drumming DNA!

                                          RICHIE CAVALERA (Incite)

Around 7:45 PM, Richie Cavalera's INCITE took center stage and demonstrated that they have been working hard on their stage show. It is very cool to see Richie come to his own, but its not surprising to see him exhaling out of control. Richie is the blonde kid that used to join SOULFLY on stage while the band was touring all over the world. The energy presented by INCITE warmed the crowd up for the SOULFLY tribe!

                                       MAX CAVALERA (Soulfly)

Once the SOULFLY tribe took over New York City, nobody was safe! While the band made sure that they presented the crowd a lot of NEW songs from their damaging album entitled 'Enslaved', we really liked how they mixed in classic SOULFLY and SEPULTURA songs. We can honestly say that Max Cavalera and company know that they needed to prove that the students (INCITE, LODY KONG, WYKKED WYTCH & IRATETION) can still learn from one of the best lineups in Heavy Music today!

                                            TONY CAMPOS (Soulfly)

                                          MARC RIZZO (Soulfly)
