The Idiots Of The West Baptist Church Declare War On The SLAYER Fans!

As previously reported, The Jeff Hanneman Memorial Celebration will take place on Thursday, May 23 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles from 3:30 - 7:30PM. And guess which group had the stupid idea to picket Hanneman's memorial?

The a&*holes from the West Baptist Church. This is the Tweet they used in order to get other brainwashed pecker heads to join them:

“WBC to picket @slayer’s Jeff Hanneman’s memorial, May 23, 1pm, @thepalladium in Los Angeles,” confirm the fanatical idiots. “See ya there, @HeavySan?”

It should be interesting to see how the SLAYER fans react to this "religious" group. Don't they know that God listen to SLAYER? We will keep you up to date, for sure!

SLAYER: Jeff Hanneman Memorial Celebration Announced!

The Jeff Hanneman Memorial Celebration will take place on Thursday, May 23 at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles from 3:30 - 7:30PM. Hanneman passed away on May 2 at the age of 49 (Details HERE).

The Memorial Celebration will be free and open to the public on a first-come, first-in basis (subject to venue capacity).  All ages are welcome, and paid parking will be available around the venue.

Jeff Hanneman helped shape Slayer's uncompromising thrash-metal sound as well as an entire genre of music.  His riffs of fury and punk-rock attitude were heard in the songs he wrote, including Slayer classics  "Angel of Death," "Raining Blood," "South of Heaven" and "War Ensemble."  Hanneman co-founded Slayer with fellow-guitarist Kerry King, bassist Tom Araya and drummer Dave Lombardo in Huntington Park, CA in 1981.  For more than 30 years, Hanneman was the band member who stayed out of the spotlight, rarely did interviews, amassed an impressive collection of World War II memorabilia, was with his wife Kathy for nearly three decades, shut off his phone and went incommunicado when he was home from tour, did not want to be on the road too late into any December as Christmas was his favorite holiday, and, from the time he was about 12 years old, woke up every, single day with one thing on his mind:  playing the guitar.

It was once suggested to Slayer that if they would write "just one mainstream song that could get on the radio," they would likely sell millions of records and change the commercial course of their career, similar to what had happened to Metallica with 1993's "Enter Sandman."  Jeff was the first to draw a line of integrity in the sand, replying, "We're going to make a Slayer record.  If you can get it on the radio, fine, if not, then fuck it."

Our condolences go out to Jeff's family, friends and the Slayer camp! Rock in Peace, Jeff!

SLAYER's Official Statement Regarding Jeff Hanneman's Passing; Cause Of Death Revealed!

Here is SLAYER's official statement regarding the passing of Jeff Hanneman.
Hanneman passed away one week ago of liver failure at the age of 49.

"While the details are being worked out now, Slayer wants its fans to know that there will be a celebration of Jeff Hanneman's life sometime later this month, along with Jeff's family and friends, the public will be invited to attend. More information will be posted here soon.

"Kerry King and Tom Araya are trying to deal with the loss of their brother by remembering some the good times they shared."

KERRY: "I had so many great times with Jeff...in the early days when we were out on the road, he and I were the night owls, we would stay up all night on the bus, just hanging out, talking, watching movies...World War II movies, horror movies, we watched "Full Metal Jacket" so many times, we could practically recite all of the dialogue."

TOM: "When we first formed Slayer, we used to rehearse all the time, religiously, 24/7. Jeff and I spent a lot of time hanging out together, he lived in my father's garage which was also our rehearsal space. When he got his own apartment, he had an 8-track and I would go there to record songs I'd written, not Slayer songs, other stuff I'd written. At a certain point, you still have the band but you start your own lives outside of the band, so that 24/7 falls to the side, you don't spend as much time together as you once did. I miss those early days."

KERRY: "He was a gigantic World War II buff, his father served in that war, so when Slayer played Russia for the first time - I think it was 1998 - Jeff and I went to one of Moscow's military museums. I'll never forget him walking around that place, looking at all of the tanks, weapons and other exhibits. He was like a kid on Christmas morning. But that was Jeff's thing, he knew so much about WW II history, he could have taught it in school."

TOM: "We were in New York recording South of Heaven. Jeff and I were at the hotel and we had to get to the studio - I think it was called Chung King, a real rundown place. So we left the hotel and decided to walk, but then it started raining. We walked maybe five blocks, and it was raining so hard, we were totally soaked, so we decided to get a cab. Here we are, two dudes with long hair and leather jackets, absolutely soaked, thumbing to the studio. No one would stop. We had to walk the entire way."

TOM: "Jeff was a lifeline of Slayer, he wrote so many of the songs that the band will always be known for. He had a good heart, he was a good guy."

*****

"We've just learned that the official cause of Jeff's death was alcohol related cirrhosis. While he had his health struggles over the years, including the recent Necrotizing fasciitis infection that devastated his well-being, Jeff and those close to him were not aware of the true extent of his liver condition until the last days of his life. Contrary to some reports, Jeff was not on a transplant list at the time of his passing, or at any time prior to that. In fact, by all accounts, it appeared that he had been improving – he was excited and looking forward to working on a new record."

Dave Lombardo Remembers His Friend & Bandmate Jeff Hanneman!

One week ago, the Heavy Metal world suffered together as one when we all got the sad news that Slayer guitarist and founding member Jeff Hanneman passed away of liver failure at the age of 49. His friend and former bandmate Dave Lombardo paid tribute to Hanneman via the following post:

"Jeff was the guy that shaved his head and shared the music he was so inspired by. I enjoyed Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks, Black Flag and The Germs with him. My drumming was getting faster and Jeff was writing original songs with a punk attitude. The fusion of Heavy Metal and Punk took over Slayer’s early mediocre style, hence a new force was born.

"Thank you, Jeff, for your inspiring discovery of Punk Rock that has continued to shape my personal drumming style."

PIG DESTROYER Unleash 'Mass & Volume', A Never Before Heard EP In Memory Of Pat Egan!

Grindcore Masters PIG DESTROYER have released a never before heard EP entitled 'Mass & Volume'. This EP is dedicated to the memory of Pat Egan and to the loving family he left behind. The EP is a Doom EP and the artwork was created by Arik Roper. The EP is available for purchase at http://patlapse.bandcamp.com/album/mass-volume. This is the only format that this EP is available in and all proceeds of this recording will be donated to the college fund of Pat Egan's daughter Katie.

The band spoke about Pat and the EP release:

"Pat Egan was a friend and a keystone member of the Relapse family for many of the years we have been involved with it. He devoted his life to supporting underground music and he immeasurably helped develop the bands he worked with. His untimely passing on February 18 2013 shocked the many people that his life and work had touched."

This EP was written and recorded during the final day of the 'Phantom Limb' sessions with unexpected extra studio time and resources. In the following years, with "Natasha" being released on its own and Brian no longer being in the band, the bands intentions of releasing 'Mass & Volume' basically evaporated. However, looking back now, 'Mass & Volume' serves as a great epilogue to that particular era of the band.

Less than 2 weeks ago Relapse Records released "Patlapse" in honor of the man who was so instrumental in the success of so many Relapse bands and records, the label has put together a 20 track compilation featuring a collection of his favorite songs and artists, including Mastodon, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Brian Posehn, Red Fang, Death, and many more, including a never-before-released track from Exhumed.

100% of proceeds from the compilation will go towards a college fund for his young daughter Katie. Relapse thanks each band for contributing each track and waiving their royalty fee to maximize the benefit for Pat's beloved family. The compilation is available via Bandcamp at this location for only $5 but friends and fans are welcome to donate as much as they want. Direct contributions may also be made via paypal to wellmissyoupat@relapse.com.

A memorial event for Pat has been scheduled for Tuesday March 5th from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM EST at Idle Hands Bar in New York, NY. Everyone is invited to attend as we pay tribute to a dear friend, colleague & family man who left behind an amazing wife and a wonderful daughter. All proceeds from the event will go directly to his daughter Katie's college fund. More information on the event can be found HERE.

Members Of EXHUMED Talk About "Summer Slaughter" & About How Progressive Metal Bands Are Too Predictable!

Recently, the tri-state area Headbangers joined forces at New York City's legendary venue Irving Plaza (formerly The Fillmore) for the 2012 Summer Slaughter Tour. This years event is co-headlined by the mighty CANNIBAL CORPSE and Progressive Metallers BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME. Two bands that have a very different sound, but that have managed to open the minds of each others fans by penetrating ear drums like very few bands out there. The 2012 SUMMER SLAUGHTER tour truly represents what the state of Heavy Music is today: many different types of fans coming together to jam out to their favorite bands while learning about new bands and tendencies.

Following EXHUMED's early set, in which they performed a bunch of NEW songs from their latest album 'All Guts All Glory' (available now via Relapse Records), we had the chance to chat with EXHUMED's own Matt Harvey and Rob Babcock at Idle Hands Bar about the 2012 SUMMER SLAUGHTER tour, how playing early during the day allows them more time at the bar and they even talk about how Progressive Metal bands are too predictable! What do you think? Use the comments section below and let us know!

Exhumed's SUMMER SLAUGHTER tour New York City Set-list:

1) All Guts, No Glory
2) As Hammer To Anvil
3) In The Name Of Gore
4) Distorted and Twisted to Form
5) Limb From Limb
6) The Matter of Splatter

Tommy Vext Talks About How His Accident Gave Birth To 'Impermanence' & Apologizes To Dino Cazares!

Tommy Vext (ex-Divine Heresy & Snot) has a brand NEW project called VEXT. If you haven't heard it yet you might want to give your ears a chance to listen to a very fresh approach that is the result of Tommy's union with former members of MUTINY WITHIN and guitar monster Angel Vivaldi (listen below). The bands debut EP is called 'Impermanence' and its set to be released on July 3rd via all digital outlets.

Recently, the band presented their brand NEW sonic assault at their CD release show in New York City's Sullivan Hall. While the weather wasn't ideal for a Tuesday night show, the masses showed up ready to party and VEXT presented them with the perfect soundtrack.

'Impermanence' was mixed by Chris Clancy (formerly from Mutiny Within) at Colin Richardson's studio in the UK. The musical direction of the band combines elements of Pantera, Alice In Chains and Tool, but Tommy makes it clear that it is something NEW and risky. For the production of Tommy's vocals, the band were lucky enough to count with Disturbed's frontman David Draiman who coached Tommy throughout the entire process. Additionally, Tommy is an alumni from vocal coach Melissa Cross (considered the best in the business).

Once VEXT finished feeding the masses with their unique blend of music, we sat down to chat with Tommy about the inspiration behind 'Impermanence' and how his health scare in 2010 influenced his NEW musical project. He also publicly apologized to Dino Cazares (FEAR FACTORY, DIVINE HERESY & ASESINO) in hopes to patch up his relationship with the "riffmanufacturer" within the near future. Check it out our exclusive interview with Tommy and spread the word!

Cynic Announces Release Party & Special Acoustic Performance In New York City!

Coinciding with the release of their NEW album "Carbon-Based Anatomy" (In Stores November 15th via Season Of Mist), CYNIC have confirmed a special release party for this Wednesday, November 2nd at Idle Hands Bar in New York City. The band will be on hand signing copies of the new EP and a special intimate acoustic set is planned for the evening as well.

On their new EP "Carbon-Based Anatomy", CYNIC have once again taken their natural inter-fusion of musical styles and turned it into something truly singular. "Carbon-Based Anatomy" is equal parts King Crimson, Tool, Muse and Allan Holdsworth. It's a 23-minute transcendent musical journey through the fertile musical minds of guitarist Paul Masvidal and progressive drumming icon Sean Reinert. Beginning with their much-venerated 1993 debut release "Focus", CYNIC have long been famous for pushing musical boundaries. Now in 2011, CYNIC have redefined themselves once again with a 6-song EP that combines diverse influences from 70s-inspired Prog Rock to cutting-edge Metal, tribal folk and futuristic alien shapes and sounds.

All of these diverse elements have been harnessed and carefully shaped by mixer John Hiler, into what is unquestionably the most open and expansive-sounding release of CYNIC's career. "Carbon-Based Anatomy" is retro, yet at the same time is unapologetically modern. It is respectful of the groundbreaking artists that have made musical evolution possible yet refuses to be stifled by that reverence. It is wholly appreciative of past musical landmarks but is unashamedly forward- thinking. "Carbon-Based Anatomy" is CYNIC's next bold step into the future and is a harbinger of the great music to come.

CYNIC will be joined on their US and European tours by new members Brandon Giffin (ex-The Faceless) on bass and Baltimore Holdsworth-styled guitar prodigy Max Phelps. Tour dates are can be found below.

CYNIC is:

- Paul Masvidal: Vocals, Guitars
- Sean Reinert: Drums, Percussion
- Sean Malone: Bass (Album)
- Amy Correia: Vocals (Album)
- Max Phelps: Guitar, Vocals (Live)
- Brandon Giffin - Bass (Live)

Jim Florentine's latest live comedy CD/DVD, and Metal Blade Records debut, Cringe 'n' Purge, is out today via Metal Blade Records. Besides hosting VH1 Classics "That Metal Show", Jim Florentine has also appeared on shows such as HBO's "Inside the NFL", "Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn", "Chelsea Lately" on E!, "The Howard Stern Radio and TV Show", "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on ABC, MTV's "Music Video Awards", Spike TV's "Video Game Awards", HBO's "Down and Dirty Comedy Show", "The Apprentice", and of course as "Special Ed" and "Bobby Fletcher" on Crank Yankers. His theatrical career was ramped up this Summer when he appeared on the screen alongside The Office's Jenna Fischer in the movie "A Little Help".

Tonight, Jim will be performing a very intimate stand-up comedy act at Idle Hands Bar in New York City. He will also be signing copies of his NEW comedy album!
