We just came across this great list of social media tips and HAD to share them with you. The following tips were written by Simon Tam, who is the owner of Last Stop Booking and author of "How to Get Sponsorships and Endorsements". Simon’s writing on music and marketing can be found at www.laststopbooking.com. You can also follow him on Twitter @SimonTheTam.
Here are some helpful hints to help determine where you should stake your brand:
- Your target audience is already there: If your fans/potential fans are on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Mixi, Pinterest, etc. chances are that you should too. It’s an easy way for people to share about you and for content to become viral. However, it’s important to understand the nature of each of these sites... just because people are on the sites doesn’t mean that they’ll care about what you do on them. Whatever you do, it should resonate with the target audience there.
- When you have more than one audience: The same principles apply above if you have more than one target audience. For example, promoters are more likely to check out your ReverbNation than a casual fan.
- Can you do it well?: If you don’t have time/the ability to create something of quality, perhaps you should wait until you can (or at least grow the skills before pushing the site). You don’t want to fragment your brand by creating several poorly managed, out of date websites. These do reflect on your band. Instead, focus on what you can do well and have time to keep fresh, relevant, and looking good.
- Bring it all home: Whatever you decide to do with social media, make sure you loop those fans back into your own website/email list. Social media sites come and go but people should always be able to rely on your website and mailing list to get reliable content when they stop using social media sites. Don’t wait until Facebook becomes the next MySpace before you jump ship. Make your brand-controlled sites the ultimate destination for fan related content.

UNEARTH Unleash Their Music Video For "Watch It Burn"
Unearth's NEW video for "Watch It Burn" from 'Darkness in the Light' is now streaming EXCLUSIVELY on Metal Injection.net! The video, which was directed by Scott Hansen (A Day To Remember, I Wrestled A Bear Once, Maylene & The Sons of Disaster), is a dark and disturbing video to match the equally bleak lyrics of the song. The video can be seen below.
Vocalist Trevor Phipps elaborates on the video: "This video captures both the energy we put into every performance as well as imagery of the dark lyrical content of "Watch it Burn". We want to thank Scott Hansen and his crew for their hard work delivering such a sick video for our fans to see. Check it out!"
Unearth's next round of touring will be across Australia as a part of the Soundwave Festival. The tour kicks off February 25th in Brisbane and features Slipknot, System of a Down, A Day To Remember, Bush, Lamb of God, Machine Head and many more. For the full line up, visit Sound Wavefestival.com. In addition to the festival, Unearth will perform on some festival off-dates in Australia and New Zealand. The full schedule is included below.
Following their trip down under, Unearth will be re-conquering Europe starting March 20th in support of fellow Metal heavyweights, Heaven Shall Burn. The band will make return trips to Europe through April, June, July and August for multiple festival appearances including: Groezrock, Hellfest, Graspop Metal Meeting, With Full Force, Wacken and Summer Breeze Open Air. Unearth Announce Permanent Drummer!
Fans that have seen Unearth live on their recent trips to Alaska, Japan and on their US and Canadian tour with Chimaira, may have noticed a NEW face on stage. The guy behind the kit has been none other than up-and-coming drummer, Nick Pierce.
Nick Pierce is a self taught drummer who's been playing since age 10. He grew up playing for local bands in the Seattle/Tacoma area (Culling the Weak, Eterna Nocturna, Embalmed) as well as LA based band The Faceless. Nick first sat in behind the kit for Unearth in May of 2011 during their two show trip to Alaska. Unearth discovered Pierce on YouTube where he had been covering Unearth songs, among many other bands, on a series of videos on his YouTube channel.
Vocalist Trevor Phipps adds: "Nick is a beast of a drummer and a great guy to hang with. I look forward to jamming with him around the world for years to come." Guitarist Buz McGrath compliments Pierce and says he has a "Great attitude, energy and the knowledge that we can throw the most insane riffs at him and he can create and adequately perform next level beats for said riffs makes it a little easier to sleep at night."
Nick Pierce shares his excitement about joining Unearth: "I've been a fan of Unearth for many years and I'm excited to shred with a great group of guys and support our fans."
A live video of Pierce performing "Watch It Burn" live on tour has been made available on Metal Blade TV. Drum aficionados and fans should subscribe to Pierce's YouTube channel for more drum videos (link below).
