Zulie's 12 Pieces Of Eye Candy For 2012 - Image Gallery Available!

In 2012, Horns Up Rocks' Zulie Alvarez entered plenty of photo pits throughout the tri-state area and captured a lot of very memorable moments. Before we share with you "Zulie's 12 Pieces Of Eye Candy For 2012", let us tell you about the wonderful Zulie.

Zulie was born in Ecuador in 1982 and arrived in Brooklyn, NY in 1985. During her High School years she picked up her first camera (an Olympus IS-30 DLX) and started shooting random surroundings, such as: objects around her home, friends, animals, and pretty much anything that caught her attention along the way. This resulted in her adopting some visual aesthetics that she still applies to this day. Zulie’s pristine vision is transmitted via her camera lens and in only 13 years she has been able to capture some very unique and memorable photographs. Her work is constantly evolving and she is always willing to learn new things.

Without further due, here is "Zulie's 12 Pieces Of Eye Candy For 2012":

The Full Metal Jackie Interview With Henry Rollins!

Recently, the very opinionated 51-year-old Henry Rollins, who counts singer/songwriter, radio DJ, actor, author and spoken-word artist among his achievements, appeared on the "Full Metal Jackie" radio show! A few excerpts of the interview follow.

You are a man of many talents – actor, author, musician, activist, journalist, TV host. Is there anything that you don’t do?

Sleep or enjoy moments of solitude and tranquility. I’m not exactly ambitious as much as I have a very good realization of what I am and what I am capable of. I come from the minimum wage working world of the late 70’s, early 80’s and I have a high school diploma – so it’s not like you’re asking me to split an atom or get to the moon quickly.

I am a crass opportunist as much as anything else – in that when someone says, “Hey you want to be in my movie?” I’m like “Yeah, I can’t act so I’m definitely showing up.” I just do stuff and realizing guys like me – I would probably had a life of flipping burgers had I not been very lucky so I remain grateful and kind of running at it at the balls of my feet even 30 years in.

Henry Rollins today is more sophisticated than the 20 year old kid who joined Black Flag in 1981. How has maturity affected the way you’re inspired by heavy music?

Well I’ve always liked heavy music because it was as angry and as passionate as I was. That’s why a lot of us like metal music and heavy music because your heart beats heavy, you have big feelings and big emotions so you take things hard. You win and lose at love and life and you need some kind of soundtrack that hits as hard as you’re hitting life and life is hitting you, hence 80,000 people at the Wacken festival every year, hence the success of all these metal bands and why metal and heavy music is never, ever going to die.

It’s never going to be old, not to me at least and not to millions of other people because we live life in a very full contact way and so that aspect of my life hasn’t changed at all – things still hurt and you try your best and you fail, so you put on a High on Fire record and life gets better. I like music that’s not breaking walls down as well, you have to be eclectic and there’s lots of good music out there – Bob Dylan with an acoustic guitar also works.

I’ve become more mature in the years just because I’m 51, not 20 and I’ve had a lot of laughs from the trek, seen a lot of people die and been to a lot of countries and seen a lot of ups and downs . That kind of exposure to the world, it broadens you – especially all the loss in life, the defeat. If you’re smart enough to learn from it, good lessons and it has made me a more humble person.

CHIMAIRA Debut NEW Song At Their Annual Christmas Bash - Video Available!

Last night (December 29), Cleveland's Heavy Metal beast CHIMAIRA returned to the stage for their first and only US appearance of 2012. The 13th annual Chimaira Christmas took place at Cleveland's House Of Blues.

During this awesome event, the band debuted a brand NEW song entitled "Eye Despise". You can check it out right here:

CHIMAIRA's own Mark Hunter recently chatted with Metal Insider about the follow-up to 2011's 'The Age Of Hell', which should be out in the summer of 2013 via eOne Music. Here is what Hunter had to say about the bands NEW direction:

"We have twelve demos written and we've actually gone into the studio and demoed it professionally instead of just a standard computer/Pro Tools kind of thing," he said. "We're getting ready to enter the studio in February and make a new album."

He added: "2011 sucked. [laughs] This year's been all about rebuilding and we got a chance to do overseas. Our first show with the new line-up was at Soundwave in Australia in front of 10,000 people. It was really nice to have to go through such a terrible year and just kind of stand on top of a mountain and go, 'Wow, OK, we got out of it, and we're here, we got a band, we sound great, and we can move forward.' So this year has been restructuring the entire business from the ground up, realigning ourselves with new teams; be it management, agent, merchandise companies, everything from the whole ground up. In my opinion, the only way to move forward was to rebuild the whole thing from the bottom up.

"We want to come out with an album that not only captures the essence of what the fans have grown to know over the years, but we want to do something not only for the scene that's special, but for musicians out there, too. The musicianship in this band now is definitely on the next level. Everyone's pretty much a virtuoso at their instrument. Some of the stuff Emil [Werstler, guitar] was writing yesterday on this new song, I'm watching him play and I'm like, 'There are only going to be about a handful of people that'll able to play this!' [laughs] I'm imagining like a kid getting home, getting our new record and maybe they have the guitar, and they go sit down and try play along to it. And it's going to take them a very long time. [laughs]

"We couldn't be happier moving forward. It sucks that we had to go through hell — no pun intended — to get to where we are now. But I think all of us, coming from lessons of life, lessons of bands, lessons of the industry, we've lived and learned and now we have something completely different to prove."

Stay tuned for more CHIMAIRA news!

CHIMAIRA is:

- Matt Szlachta
- Emil Werstler
- Sean Z
- Mark Hunter
- Austin D'amond
- Jeremy Creamer

CHILDREN OF BODOM Release Video Update # 1 From The Studio!

Finland's Heavy Metal machines CHILDREN OF BODOM are currently tracking their ninth studio album, the follow up to 2011's 'Relentless Reckless Forever'. Here is video update # 1 from the band regarding the tracking of the album: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=561950340499621

As previously announced, the band has announced that they will not able to perform at Tuska Festival next year. The annual festival is set to take place June 28-30, 2013 in Suvilahti, Helsinki, Finland. The reason? Well, the band is scheduled to appear on a "big tour" in the United States. We think the band might be part of next year's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. As we all know, Mayhem Fest is the biggest Heavy Metal tour and it usually kicks off in late June.

Here is what the bands bassist Henkka Seppälä had to say: "We've been waiting to play Tuska for some years now. It is our home festival after all. Unfortunately, this year we have to sacrifice a couple of festivals in Europe in order to be able to be part of a big tour in USA. These are not easy nor nice decisions. We only can hope we can do Tuska in the near future again.

"Please stay tuned for our schedules for summer 2013. Fortunately, we are able to play shows in Europe as well. Looking forward!"

As previously reported, CHILDREN OF BODOM have inked a worldwide recording deal (excluding Japan) with Nuclear Blast Records. The celebrated Metal label -- who worked with the band over the early stages of its career -- is proud to announce the renewed partnership with the world famous band. Read the bands statement HERE!

Stay tuned for more updates on the NEW CHILDREN OF BODOM record!

Yesterday (Wednesday, December 27, 2012), the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts honored seven individuals who received the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors. Here is the list of honorees at the 35th annual national celebration of the arts:

- Bluesman Buddy Guy
- Actor and director Dustin Hoffman
- Comedian and television host David Letterman
- Ballerina Natalia Makarova
- Rock band Led Zeppelin.

While Led Zeppelin were honored as a band, keyboardist/bassist John Paul Jones, guitarist Jimmy Page, and singer Robert Plant received the Kennedy Center Honors.

"With their extraordinary talent, creativity and tenacity, the seven 2012 Kennedy Center Honorees have contributed significantly to the cultural life of our nation and the world," said Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein. "Buddy Guy is a titan of the blues and has been a tremendous influence on virtually everyone who has picked up an electric guitar in the last half century; Dustin Hoffman's unyielding commitment to the wide variety of roles he plays has made him one of the most versatile and iconoclastic actors of this or any other generation; David Letterman is one of the most influential personalities in the history of television, entertaining an entire generation of late-night viewers with his unconventional wit and charm; Natalia Makarova's profound artistry has ignited the stages of the world's greatest ballet companies and continues to pass the torch to the next generation of dancers; and Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant transformed the sound of rock and roll with their lyricism and innovative song structures, infusing blues into the sound of rock and roll and laying the foundation for countless rock bands."

Legions of fans worldwide were expecting a reunion tour following LED ZEPPELIN's triumphant reunion concert at London's O2 Arena in 2007. And apparently some of the members of the band also expected the reunion tour to happen. "Some of us thought we would be continuing, that there were going to be more concerts in the not-too-distant-future," Jimmy Page told Rolling Stone Senior Writer David Fricke in the NEW issue (on stands Friday). "Because there was a lot of work being put into the show."

"He was busy," says Page. "He was doing his Alison Krauss project. I wasn't fully aware it was going to be launched at the same time. So what do you do in a situation like that? I'd been working with the other two guys for the percentage of the rehearsals at the O2. We were connecting well. The weakness was that none of us sang."

Full article HERE!

Recently, the band released their NEW concert film "Celebration Day" at the historic Ziegfeld Theater in New York's theater district on October 9. Prior to the premiere, founding members John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page, and Robert Plant were joined by Jason Bonham, the son of their late drummer John Bonham, for a press conference at New York's Museum of Modern Art. Footage available HERE!

CHILDREN OF BODOM: Drummer Jaska Raatikainen Updates Fans On Bands NEW Album!

Finland's Heavy Metal machines CHILDREN OF BODOM are currently tracking their ninth studio album, the follow up to 2011's 'Relentless Reckless Forever'. Here is an update that the bands drummer has just released regarding the tracking of the album:

"Yo!

"Today we had the last rehearsals before entering the studio tomorrow to record drums for the new album.

"Last two days have been quite intensive. Playing the songs over and over again, lots of fuck ups and broken drum sticks, sweating, frustration, coffee and what have you, a little bit of arranging and all that shit.

"I am convinced that the new songs are great. A little bit of black metal, heavy metal, metal, old school death metal, melodies, solos and anything you need to make a nice album. And the most important, new ideas à la COB!

"Stay tuned, studio reports will follow.

"Now I think I am ready for a beer!

"KIPPIS !!"

Rick Cimato: Video Footage Of His Last Performance With THINNING THE HERD At HORNS UP ROCKS' "Holiday Tribute Show To Dimebag Darrell & The Victims Of Hurricane Sandy"!

As previously reported, the New York City Heavy Music scene was struck with tragedy when news surfaced of the tragic passing of Rick Cimato of THINNING THE HERD (formerly of GODS GREEN EARTH and NASSAU CHAINSAW, among others). Yesterday morning, according to state police, Rick was involved in a head on collision that took his life as well as the life of Michael Heeks (who was driving the other car).

Reportedly, Heeks, 22, of Mansfield, was driving a 2011 Honda Accord northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 15 just after 2 a.m. when he hit a 2004 Hyundai Elantra head on near exit 66, by the Meriden town line with Wallingford. Heeks' car rolled over and landed upside down in the median.

Rick's brother Nicholas Cimato, 47, of New York City, and his girlfriend Ashley Robinson, 30, of Brooklyn, New York, both survived the crash and are expected to leave the hospital soon. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Here is video footage of Rick's very last performance with THINNING THE HERD HORNS UP ROCKS' "Holiday Tribute Show To Dimebag Darrell & The Victims Of Hurricane Sandy":

THY WILL BE DONE's J. Costa Announces NEW Full Length Album; Reflects On Music & Life In 2012!

Earlier this year, THY WILL BE DONE unleashed one of the best EP's of 2012. Entitled 'Temple', the release saw the light of day via the band's own Eye.On Lion Recordings with INgrooves Fontana handling distribution. In times in which music is really hard to sell regardless of the quality of the product, THY WILL BE DONE proved that with the right batch of songs and some smart marketing, a solid EP can actually sell and help fund future projects.

We recently chatted with the bands frontman J. Costa after the KILLWITCH ENGAGE, SHADOWS FALL and ACARO show in Brooklyn, NY, and he revealed that the band is currently on a full length album that will NOT include any of the songs that are part of 'Temple'. However, he did mention that the direction of the NEW THY WILL BE DONE record will be within the lines of 'Temple'.

During the interview we also discussed the bands association with HATEBREED's Jamey Jasta, who they consider a mentor. Additionally, Costa reflects on 2012 and how the bands appearance at "Orion Music + More" was a dream come true! He also talked about how the passing of SUICIDE SILENCE's Mitch Lucker impacted the entire Heavy Music community and how it is a reminder to live every day like its your last one. Without further due, here is our exclusive interview with one of the best dudes in Metal, J. Costa from Rhode Island's THY WILL BE DONE! Enjoy it!

Following News Of His Engagement, Kirk Windstein Lashes Out At Blabbermouth & Calls Them "The National Enquirer Of Metal"

We want to congratulate Kirk Windstein, the master of the riff of DOWN, CROWBAR, and KINGDOM OF SORROW, on his engagement to Robin Dubroc over the Christmas holiday weekend. We want to wish them a life full of happiness and awesome times!

Following Windstein's announcement via his Facebook page, Blabbermouth took it upon themselves to break the news to the world about Windstein's engagement. Here is what they posted:

Windstein ended his previous relationship to a woman named Kate in early October and became romantically involved with Dubroc on October 18, according to Kirk's personal Facebook timeline. He wrote on October 4: "My world as I know it has been crushed... Kate doesn't want me anymore and I'm fucking devastated. It's not her fault, she just can't deal with me being gone all the time. I will always love her more than any woman." He added the next day: "I'll say one thing... my heart has been broken for the last time. I will never trust a woman with my heart ever again!!!" A week into his new relationship, on October 22, Kirk wrote: "I spoke to Robin for at least an hour and a half!!! The most special lady I know... To all who are hurting, giving up on love etc., let Robin and I be an example... By that I mean that your true love will come around. It took 47 years for me... but it is 'real' and I feel it... I have not felt this good since I was a kid!!! AMAZING what the right lady can do for your soul... I love you, Robin. Thanks for being you!!!" (Full article HERE!)

After reading the article above, Windstein lashed out by posting the following message:

"PRETTY AMAZING HOW THEY LEAVE OUT ALL DETAILS ABOUT ROBIN AND I DATING 25 YEARS AGO, AND THEY LEAVE OUT ALL THE PROBLEMS KATE AND I HAD THROUGHOUT OUR 3 PLUS YEAR RELATIONSHIP, THEN THEY MAKE IT LOOK LIKE I JUST MET ROBIN WHILE WE'VE BEEN TALKING ALL ALONG... THE NATIONAL ENQUIRER OF METAL... FUCK ALL THE GOSSIP... I KNOW WHO I AM AND I KNOW WHO I WILL SPEND MY LIFE WITH... ROBIN!!!" - KIRK

Tragedy Strikes The New York Metal Scene: Rick Cimato From THINNING THE HERD/GODS GREEN EARTH Passes Away During The Holiday Weekend!

Hey guys, Jö Schüftan here. I hope you all had a GREAT holiday weekend and that in 2013 all of your dreams come true!

It is with a very heavy heart that I need to break some very sad news, which I hate to do (but it is part of the "job"). My good friend Gavin Spielman, frontman from THINNING THE HERD, has posted the following message regarding the passing away of his best friend and drummer Rick Cimato:

"I just found out my best friend and drummer Rick was killed in a car accident this weekend.

"I don't think I can continue with Thinning the Herd anymore."

- Gavin

RECENT UPDATES:

"Rick was in an auto accident last night... he did not survive it. His brother Nick and Ashley are both in surgery. Pray for all, I am devastated by his loss." - Marian Cimato (family member)

"Rick Cimato, my old roommate, band mate, and friend was killed yesterday in a car accident coming home from his Moms in Maine. Somewhere in CT a 22yr old was driving north in the southbound lane. Head on collision. His gf Ashe and brother Tony are in hospital in surgery due to severe injuries." - Jason Madrock

"Ashley is OK. She broke her left eye socket and ruptured spleen, but is OK. Nick is also out of surgery and is going to be fine." - Posted on Rick Cimato's memorial page

Via NBC:

According to state police, Michael Heeks, 22, of Mansfield, was driving a 2011 Honda Accord northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 15 just after 2 a.m. when he hit a 2004 Hyundai Elantra head on near exit 66, by the Meriden town line with Wallingford.

Heeks' car rolled over and landed upside down in the median.

Heeks died in the crash, as did the driver of the Hyundai, 37-year-old Patrick Cimato, of Lisbon Falls, Maine. Cimato was driving in the proper direction when he was hit by the car driven by Heeks, police said.

Cimato's two passengers, Nicholas Cimato, 47, of New York City, and Ashley Robinson, 30, of Brooklyn, New York, both survived the crash.

Please take a moment to send Rick, his family, his friends, and his band mates in both THINNING THE HERD and GODS GREEN EARTH, the most rocking positive vibes!

I was honored to have had Rick perform his very last show at the Horns Up Rocks' "Holiday Tribute Show For Dimebag Darrell and the victims of Hurricane Sandy" with THINNING THE HERD, and I will personally never forget how he was the first person I ran into when I arrived at The Trash Bar that Saturday, December 8th. ROCK IN PEACE brother and see you on the other side!

Recently, THINNING THE HERD unfurled a brand NEW self-released video from their pending third full-length, 'Freedom From The Known', the album recorded over the Summer by Steve Albini (NIRVANA).

With February 2, 2013, now confirmed as the street date for 'Freedom From The Known', THINNING THE HERD’s psychedelic self-released video for the opening track from the album, “Never Wanted,” brings some fun and shame and good old fashioned filth back to Rock without a dribble of pretentiousness. Stated Stoner/Rock/Metal portal The Obelisk about the NEW visual depiction of the track: “Some videos just have it all, man. Drug innuendo, psychedelic booty dancing, a swirling drummer, tripped out ’90s-type digital effects, Orange stacks, the Buddha. The list goes on.”
