ANTHRAX Wake Up NASA's Curiosity & Become First Metal Band To Have Its Music Played in Mars (The Planet)!
They are one of the bands that helped define the "Metal/Thrash" genre (with Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth - The Big Four). Their music has been played at New York's Yankee Stadium, in Moscow, Warsaw, Australia, Japan, and at Castle Donington in the UK. But now, thanks to NASA, Anthrax is the first Metal band to ever have its music played on Mars.
"Got The Time," from the band's 1990 Gold-certified 'Persistence of Time', was one of several songs on NASA's wake-up playlist for the Mars Rover, Curiosity, that touched down on the Red Planet August 5. "Got The Time" woke Curiosity up on Day Six, along with "Echelon" by 30 Seconds to Mars. Since Curiosity's Mars landing, the playlist has also included The Beatles' "Good Morning Good Morning," the theme from "Star Wars," and Wagner's "The Ride of the Valkyries."
As Anthrax's Scott Ian put it, "Yes, there will be moshing on Mars."
Next on Anthrax's Planet Earth agenda is a Fall co-headline tour with Testament, with Death Angel supporting. This will be Leg Three of the Anthrax/Testament/Death Angel hat-trick, and will mark Anthrax's first tour of Canada in support of the band's most recent release, 'Worship Music', called the Metal Album of the Year by an abundance of journalists (including Horns Up Rocks!).
Added Ian, "With Testament and Death Angel before, we played sold-out shows, raging crowds and EPIC war dances, and we can't wait to do it again, especially for our Canadian fans who have been waiting a long to time 'worship music' with us."
Several NEW dates have been added to the thrash-fest routing, including shows in Chicago, Detroit, Hartford and Atlantic City. The complete itinerary is below.
And if that's not enough Anthrax news for you, Anthrax's bassist, Frank Bello, will attend the premiere of "Greetings From Tim Buckley" at next month's Toronto Film Festival. Bello made his feature film debut in the supporting role of Punk Rock legend Richard Hell in the film that stars Penn Badgley of "Gossip Girl" fame. Bello auditioned for the role on a Thursday, was cast on Friday, and reported to the set the following Monday, the morning after Anthrax's big Yankee Stadium concert last September with The Big Four.
With the NEW dates added, the complete itinerary for the Anthrax/Testament/Death Angel thrash-fest are as follows:
SEPTEMBER:
- 14: Ace of Spades in Sacramento, CA
- 15: Roseland Theatre in Portland, OR
- 16: Toyota Arena in Kennewick, WA
- 17: Knitting Factory in Spokane, WA
- 19: The Showbox @ The Market in Seattle, WA
- 20: Vogue Theatre in Vancouver, BC

- 25: Burton Cummings Theatre in Winnipeg, MB
- 27: Vic Theatre in Chicago, IL

Tom Morello Reacts To Paul Ryan's Love For RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE!
Recently, American politician Paul Ryan (GOP Vice President candidate) expressed his love for RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and cited them as his favorite band. Here is what guitarist Tom Morello told Rolling Stone magazine about this surprising gesture of admiration:
"Paul Ryan's love of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE is amusing, because he is the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against two decades...
"Don't mistake me, I clearly see that Ryan has a whole lotta "rage" in him: A rage against women, a rage against immigrants, a rage against workers, a rage against gays, a rage against the poor, a rage against the environment. Basically the only he's not raging against is the privileged he's groveling in front of for campaign contributions."

LIMP BIZKIT Call It A Day? Fred Durst: "We were a moment in time and it's over."
From 1997 until 2000, LIMP BIZKIT was one of the biggest Heavy Music bands in the world. Their blend of Heavy Metal and Hip Hop, won the band tons of fans that were excited about hearing something completely different. The bands short lived triumphant career came to a stop when in Woodstock 99, the bands front man Fred Durst caused a huge riot that ended up turning the "peace and love" festival into a "war and hate" festival.
The '90s are obviously gone and LINKIN PARK took LIMP BIZKIT's thrones a long time ago, and Fred Durst says "it's time everyone moved on — if they haven't already." Fred: everyone moved on a long time ago!
During an interview with Kerrang! magazine, the singer said that, despite recently signing with Lil Wayne's Cash Money label, the Bizkit is, for all intents and purposes, done:
"Say in 2000, there were 35 million people who connected to this band. Twelve years later, lots of those people have moved on. We were a moment in time and it's over."
If LIMP BIZKIT was "a moment in time and it's over", why the hell sign a record contract with Cash Money? Apparently Durst and crew are not giving up on the bands wholesale — just that the U.S. population is unlikely to see LIMP BIZKIT on stage ever again:
"We've boycotted America for many years now... The reason? We just don't know what's going on in America. It's all about the new catchy thing and that's always changing. America is driven by record sales. It's the home of corporations. We're just LIMP BIZKIT, so we don't know how to do anything but LIMP BIZKIT."
Who the hell "boycotts" their own market? The truth of the matter is that no venue here in the U.S. is going to take the risk of booking LIMP BIZKIT after what happened at Woodstock. Maybe it is time for LIMP BIZKIT to call it a day!

Between The Buried And Me Announce Japanese, Australian & New Zealand Tour Dates!
The announcement comes as the Charlotte, North Carolina band are in the midst of a North American tour, co-headlining Summer Slaughter Tour with a handful of headlining dates later this month. Between The Buried And Me follow the U.S. dates with an extensive European tour, which begins on October 1st in Reading, UK. A list of tour dates is available below.
'The Parallax II: Future Sequence' marks the quintet's most ambitious release to date and their first-full length release on Metal Blade arrives on October 9th. The 12-track, conceptual release was described by Tommy Rogers (vocals, keyboards) as: "A conceptual journey that takes the listener to worlds that seem familiar and worlds that make you scratch your head. From start to finish this is music we want to create, not music we think people want us to create. We create songs that keep us (and hopefully you) excited about Heavy Music." The first single from the release, "Telos," can be streamed below.
Between The Buried And Me have sold in excess of 400,000 records since their 2002 self-titled debut. "The group's ability to layer long, melodic arcs over squibs of dissonance has never been more surgical and soulful," said Alternative Press of the band's prequel to 'The Parallax II' (2011 EP 'The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues'). Revolver described the set as "a cohesive piece of art" and added "Between The Buried And Me are on a level of songwriting skill that few bands hope to reach..."

WHITESNAKE: Drunk? Woman Files Lawsuit After Slipping On Vomit At Bands Show!
According to South Wales Argus, Lindy Butcher (39) slipped on vomit and injured herself. The accident occurred during a WHITESNAKE concert that took place in December of 2011 in Newport, Wales, United Kingdom. Reportedly, Butcher has sued the local council because of her injuries: she claims that she suffered bruising and soreness to both of her knees, as well as muscle spasms between her ribs. This is what she had to say about the incident:
"It was horrifying, you don't expect to fall in someone's vomit."
The Newport council says they did what they could to prevent this incident:
"It would appear the presence of vomit was reported to staff by a member of the public," a letter from Newport council's legal representatives said. "One of the bar staff tried to call for a cleaner. However, it was extremely busy in the bar and cafe areas. In the absence of any detail concerning the actual whereabouts of the vomit and with so many people in the bars, it was difficult to pinpoint immediately where the vomit was located."
What do you think about this incident? Let us know at the comments section below.

GWAR's Oderus Urungus: "I Don't Need To Berate DAVE MUSTAINE To Make Him Look Like An Asshole"
On August 7, MEGADETH performed at Fort Canning in Singapore, and Dave Mustaine took the opportunity to preach to the crowd after someone threw a shoe onstage. The four-minute speech, began innocently enough, with the frontman calling out the person that threw the shoe ("that's what happens when cousins fuck") and playfully making fun of a fan who kept interrupting him during his speech. He then launched into a brief rant against Obama, saying, "Back in my country, my president [makes puking sign with his finger in his mouth], he's trying to pass a gun ban, so he's staging all of these murders, like the 'Fast And Furious' thing down at the border; [the massacre in] Aurora, Colorado, all the people that were killed there; and now the beautiful people at the Sikh temple [near Milwaukee, Wisconsin].
"I was talking to J.D., our promoter here tonight… What a great guy. I was saying, 'I don't know where I'm gonna live if America keeps going the way it's going because it looks like it's turning into Nazi America.' And he said, 'Move down here to Singapore.'"
After reading the above comments, GWAR frontman Oderus Urungus slammed MEGADETH's Dave Mustaine (once again) for implying President Obama was somehow responsible for recent mass shootings in Colorado and Wisconsin. Here is what Oderus posted on his Twitter account:
"I don't need to berate Dave Mustaine to make him look like an asshole. He does fine just by opening his mouth. To say something as ignorant and insensitive as Obama 'staged' the recent U.S. mass shootings you would have to be… ME! I just can't think of anything more ignorant or insensitive right of the top of my head…"

BARONESS Release Update On Condition Of Bandmembers Involved In Serious Bus Crash!
As previously reported, last night BARONESS was involved in a serious accident while driving between shows as they tour the U.K in support of their NEW album 'Yellow & Green' (available now via Relapse Records). The band played at The Fleece in Bristol on the night of August 14th. They were on their way to Southampton when the accident happened.
Earlier today, BARONESS' publicist released the following update regarding the medical condition of the band members:
"The band members of BARONESS and their crew are recovering from injuries sustained after their tour bus crashed outside of Bath, England early on Wednesday morning.
"John Baizley [rhythm guitar, lead vocals] has broken his left arm and left leg. Allen Blickle [drums] and Matt Maggioni [bass] each suffered fractured vertebrae. All three remain in the hospital as of this writing. Pete Adams [lead guitar, vocals] has been treated and released from the hospital.
"Three of the five crew members who were on the bus have also been treated and released. One member is still undergoing testing. The driver of the bus remains in critical condition.

CHIMAIRA: That Was The Age Of Hell - Statement From Mark Hunter Available!
"The last few years have been bizarre, to say the least.
"Chimaira went through an insane amount of changes that would have killed 99% of the bands out there, and all things considered, probably should have killed us, too.
"Since 2009, we’ve switched labels, management companies, booking agents, merchandisers, and unfortunately, band members.
"Like many bands, we were tested in order to survive an ever-changing industry. There were various suggestions implemented to try and improve our situation; some methods worked, some not so much. Regardless, we all had different ideas and life goals that ultimately led to where we are today.
"For over a year, we’ve been working incessantly to assemble a solid team that would represent Chimaira moving forward, all the while rebuilding the entire infrastructure. With the music industry being in a transitional period, it was imperative to align ourselves with the right people.
"Thankfully, a new balance has been found and goals have been met. Though the past few years have been difficult (with actual blood, sweat, and tears), today I’m excited to announce that the machine is running stronger than ever.
"I want to thank all of our dedicated fans for understanding that every change made was to keep Chimaira alive. A harrowing journey, the humility that accompanied each step of the path is a blessing, and your loyalty speaks volumes that will not go unrecognized.
"I fully understand the vastness that is the flip side of the coin and empathize with the fact there are a few upset fans disappointed in the changes that happened.
"The question (or scoff) I encounter regarding the lineup change is why I decided to keep the name Chimaira despite losing key members. It’s quite understandable as I’m the first person this riotous situation perplexed.
"It’s unchallenging to say that after the guys split that my commitment to move forward with the name was for ego, or I’m holding on too long, call me Axl Rose, etc… while all of that is somewhat accurate (and innocuous), I hope you get the logical explanation as well, and discern the passion behind the motivation.
"First, it’s not as straightforward as changing a band name. When I learned of Matt and Rob’s decision to leave the group, there were five months of announced tours on the agenda, there were contracts with my name on it – and there are still contracts with my name on it.
"Record labels had invested over six figures into The Age Of Hell, which at the time had not been released. Closing out in the middle of a cycle is a complex scenario. Family members, crew, and beyond needed the wheels to spin in order to pay bills. Like many decisions, this was an intricate conundrum and needed to be respected with careful thought. I couldn’t walk away from that type of responsibility, nor was I about to disappoint our fans any further.
"After securing the new lineup, I had no idea how the tours or the future would work out. There was no crystal ball to establish a fan reaction toward the new look and feel. What would the chemistry be like on the bus? There was a healthy amount of pressure on all of us and it was imperative to stay focused.
"After spending a few months with Emil, Austin, Jeremy, Matt, and recent winner of the best beard in metal, Sean Z., our mission became clear, and everyone involved realized Chimaira was more relevant than previously imagined. Numbers went up across the board and are continuing to do so.
"The audience seemed genuinely stoked and accepting, and we felt tight as a unit. One awesome aspect of the tour was meeting skeptical fans that walked in thinking the night would suck; then watching those same fans leave with a feeling that it might have been the best show they’d seen. The most fulfilling feeling was the sound of the name Chimaira chanted.
"The band was named, and is still named “Chimaira” to represent a hybrid style of heavy metal. The Chimera is a mythological creature comprised of several different animals forming into one unique monster. In modern terms, it can be defined as follows: “ Biology: an organism containing a mixture of genetically different tissues, formed by processes such as fusion of early embryos, grafting, or mutation: the sleeplike goat chimera.
"'A DNA molecule with sequences derived from two or more different organisms, formed by laboratory manipulation.'
"That sounds like us. I hope that puts an end to some of the confusion.
"Will the new music sound like the old albums? None of our albums sound the same, but there are always familiarities. The five new Chimaira songs I’m listening to sound like the band you love without question.
"Old school fans can be excited about the fact that we brought back the seven strings on a couple jams, and the thrash era can be excited for some of the most technical riffing yet. Like the ethereal, electronic, heavy as fuck, stoner sludge of the last two? It’s there. We have every intention of preserving the quality you expect from this band, while at the same time raising the bar to unreachable heights. It’s a powerful time.
"Thanks again to everyone that continues to stick by our side through thick and thin. Now that everything is worked out behind the scenes and the business fun again, it’s time to go back and concentrate on what’s integral. The music. We plan to make an incredible album."

UPON A BURNING BODY Discuss Their Mayhem Fest Experience + NEW Album 'Red,White & Green'!
On Sunday, August 5th, the fifth edition of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival came to a conclusion in Hartford, Connecticut. As it is typical, the New England Metallers know how to have a good time and never let anything (especially bad weather) get in the way of their appointment with Heavy Music. It was really cool to see so many generations of music both on and off stage, gathered together in unity! This is ultimately what Mayhem Fest represents.
One of the bands that benefited from the multi-aged festival was UPON A BURNING BODY from San Antonio, Texas. Not only did the band bring the ruckus to both the Jägermeister and Sumerian Records stages, but they demonstrated that Metalheads can dress well and still hit the crowd with hard hitting songs. With the release of their NEW album 'Red, White & Green' (available now via Sumerian Records), UPON A BURNING BODY is ready to keep taking the Heavy Music world by storm!
Upon A Burning Body's set list for the last Mayhem Fest:
1) Showtime
2) Carlito's Way
3) Texas Blood Money
4) Sin City
5) Game Over
6) Once Upon A Time In Mexico
7) Intermission
Right before UPON A BURNING BODY performed their last set of this year's Mayhem Fest, we had the chance to chat with vocalist Danny Leal and bassist Ruben Lemos about the bands NEW studio album, their experience at the fest and what the future holds for this hard hitting band! Watch it here!

Lost Footage Of VAN HALEN Lip-syncing "Mean Street" In 1981 - Video Available!
This “lost” video of VAN HALEN lip-syncing “Mean Street” was aired this summer on Italian television channel RAI Storia. Luckily someone recorded it, giving us some of the clearest footage from the Roth-era. The recording was from 11/14/81. Enjoy!
As previously reported, the 31 Van Halen concert dates that were postponed in May have now been officially cancelled. Various reports suggested that the band was burned out from performing 48 shows over several months of touring. The band will play Japan in November, and rumors persist of an Australia tour late this year, and/or another US tour next year. There is also a rumor that VAN HALEN might appear at next years Super Bowl half time show!

Peter Dolving Responds To Internet Bashing Following Harsh Words Towards His Former THE HAUNTED Bandmates!
Earlier this week, former THE HAUNTED singer Peter Dolving posted a lengthy statement on the reasons behind his decision to quit the band. One comment that caused a lot of reactions within the internet world was this one: "Anders and Jonas Bjoerler are two of the most fuc*ed up emotionally dysfunctional pieces of sh*t I have ever worked with"!
Dolving has posted another statement in order to clarify his reasons for going public with the group's dirty laundry. Here it is:
"So regarding my statement on THE HAUNTED; I am not looking for drama. Fuck that. I am not carrying a grudge. I'm simply putting the reality of their actions on the table.
"If I would have continued shutting my mouth about I would just have continued participating in the dysfunctionality. I have chosen not to. I have music, creativity, love and shitloads of really cool fans who are not interested in belittling introverts and trolls on Blabbermouth.
"If you like AT THE GATES, THE HAUNTED and even the twins [THE HAUNTED/AT THE GATES guitarist Anders Björler and bassist Jonas Björler], that's perfectly alright. It good to have something to like.
"No one is taking anything from their artistry; they are skilled and talented. You don't have to take sides. Seriously. I just don't want it to be some deep dark secret. That type of shit wears life out.
"My rage and actual bitterness is perfectly justified. They took food from my table. Anyone who's ever been laid off or screwed will identify.
"Now, on the other hand, if my art, my words, my thoughts provoke you, that just reveals your intolerance. Which is fucking sad, because because it's 2012, and carrying around moral codes and a view on reality as if it 1912, is just, well, really really fucking sad. Really.
"The world my friends, is changing. We can push forward or fight it it, but it's not going to stop it. Things change. Normality is not being a conservative dick, held back by fear and intolerance. Normality is the air between you and me, all those other things are you inside you, in battle with reality.
"Just saying."

THY WILL BE DONE Reveal NEW EP Title & Release Date
Heavy Metal dark horse THY WILL BE DONE will be releasing their NEW 6-song EP entitled 'Temple' on September 25th. Known for their DIY approach, the EP was produced and engineered by THY WILL BE DONE, mixed by acclaimed Metal producer ZEUSS (Hatebreed, Whitechapel, Suicide Silence, Soulfly) at Planet Z and is the inaugural release on the band's own Eye.On Lion Recordings with INgrooves Fontana handling world-wide distribution. Eye.On Lion Recordings is a DIY-style record label designed to release NEW music, merchandise, as well as other media from the band. The first single, "You, The Apathy Divine", was officially released through iTunes on June 26th following the band's performance at the "Orion Music + More" Festival, for which they were hand-picked by the festival curators METALLICA.
'Temple' is the band's third release following 2009's groundbreaking 'In Ancient of Days' and the critically acclaimed 2007 debut, 'Was And Is To Come'. The 'Temple' EP shows the band expanding on their sound that both peers and press have already described as defying Metal sub-genres. The first single off the EP, "You, The Apathy Divine" has been climbing steadily on SiriusXM Liquid Metal's weekly Top 12 countdown "The Devil's Dozen". It has been one of the most requested songs since its release.
On deciding to pave their way and start their own label, the band's vocalist and co-writer J Costa commented, "As a band, we've always wanted to preserve our expressions as well as the way they reach the listener. It's important for us to have a fan feel, see, and hear the finished piece as closely to the creative source of energy as possible. Eye.On Lion is a way for us to offer our artistic creations to those who choose to support us and by proxy, excludes a lot of 'middle-people'." He added, "Growing up, I've always thought about having my own label and could identify with labels like Dischord that seemed to be doing things from a passionate perspective. I also found it inspiring seeing artists like Jack White and Mike Patton, amongst others, as well as bands like Neurosis, Tool and Clutch whom have decided to blaze their own trail in this ever-changing industry. Having worked with Jamey Jasta and his Stillborn label for our first two releases, I was inspired even more to want to maintain the DIY ethos I've always had and start this label." Costa adds "Jamey's belief in us got us started on this journey. Not only do we consider him Family, but also an inspiration to us."

WHITECHAPEL's Zach Householder Talks About NEW Album, "Mayhem Fest" & Upcoming Tour With HATEBREED!
Last Sunday (August 5th), the fifth edition of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival came to a conclusion in Hartford, Connecticut. As it is typical, the New England Metallers know how to have a good time and never let anything (especially bad weather) get in the way of their appointment with Heavy Music. It was really cool to see so many generations of music both on and off stage, gathered together in unity! This is ultimately what Mayhem Fest represents.
Once again, the Knoxville, TN sextet WHITECHAPEL displayed their visual and aural assault on fans across the country as part of the 2012 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. The band has made it very clear that their recently released self-titled album, is a more mature sonic assault that will surely win the band a slew of NEW fans.
Whitechapel's set list for the last Mayhem Fest:
1) Possession
2) The Darkest Day of Man
3) This Is Exile
4) I, Dementia

Right after WHITECHAPEL finished their last set of this year's Mayhem Fest, we had the chance to chat with guitarist Zach Householder about the bands NEW studio album, their experience at the fest and what the future holds for one of America's hardest working bands! Watch it here!
