Tonight, our good friends over at DUFF'S Brooklyn will be hosting the Official release party for "Re-Machined: A Tribute To Machine Head"! The festivities will begin at 10 PM and will go on until the wee hours of the morning. And guess what? Promotional copies of the album will be away at the event!
As we all know, the album that "broke" DEEP PURPLE into the international music spectrum is 'Machine Head'. This is why Classic Rock Magazine are putting together a compilation CD that will be available as part of the magazine's "DEEP PURPLEfanpack" (available on September 4). Entitled "Re-Machined: A Tribute To Machine Head", the CD will feature re-interpreted songs from their classic hit album 'Machine Head'. The songs will be re-interpreted by some of Heavy Music's finest:
- METALLICA
- IRON MAIDEN
- BLACK LABEL SOCIETY
- STEVE VAI
- CHICKEN FOOT
The fanpack also features an in-depth, official, band-endorsed 124-page magazine which includes exclusive NEW interviews with world-class guitar masters Joe Bonamassa and Steve Vai and members of METALLICA, IRON MAIDEN and CHICKENFOOT, and more. During the interview segments, the artists will talk about recording these classic songs, plus brand NEW interviews with DEEP PURPLE — one of the last interviews with the late Jon Lord — on the making of their most well-loved album and exclusive and previously unpublished photographs and artefacts from the PURPLE archives.
'Re-Machined: A Tribute To Machine Head' track listing:

As previously reported, IRON MAIDEN will be headlining the 2013 edition of the Download Festival at Donington Park, England. This significant achievement is equally significant as 2013 is the 25th anniversary of MAIDEN first topping the bill there in 1988 when the festival was known as Monsters Of Rock attracting 107,000 fans, which is still the highest attendance ever at Donington. This was during their "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" tour, from which the current tour draws much of its inspiration for both set list and production as seen in the 1988 long form concert video "Maiden England", making this Download appearance even more unique!
Here is some video footage of Bruce Dickinson talking to Metal Hammer and Kerrang! magazines about the upcoming Download appearance and the band's past Donington performances.
Download 2013 takes place at Donington Park from June 14-16 2013. Weekend with camping tickets go on sale 9.00am Friday 28 September from www.downloadfestival.co.uk. Download RIP ticket packages are on sale now and can be purchased via www.livenationexperience.co.uk or by phoning 0207 009 3484.
On Sunday, September 9th, Rob Dukes' side band GENERATION KILL performed a very intimate set at Dingbatz in Clifton, New Jersey. The event also featured SLAYER's Dave Lombardo sode project PHILM, LOW ROAD, HAMMER FIGHT and ONE BREAK DOWN. Additionally, Jose Mangin (SIRIUS XM) hosted and DJed the event.
In case you haven't listened to the GENERATION KILL's 'Red, White and Blood', it is a record that you must listen. While Dukes' famous EXODUS style growls are evident, his NEW band has elements of Hard Core blended in perfectly with Thrash Metal!
Right after the event came to an end, we had the chance to chat with Rob Dukes about both of his bands and the future NEW music plans! We also discussed his work ethic and how he has been working on bettering himself. Check it out and crank up some GENERATION KILL and EXODUS now!
Awesome news! German music machines RAMMSTEIN will be performing at next year's Download (June 14-16, 2013 at Donington Park in Leicestershire, United Kingdom) and Wacken Open Air festivals (August 1-3, 2013 in Wacken, Germany).
Commented the band: "'Wir halten das Tempo' will also be RAMMSTEIN's motto for 2013, with the band headlining a number of big European festivals.
"Over the past two years alone, over 1.3 million people from Mexico, the USA, South Africa, Australia, Canada and Europe have been blown away by the band's spectacular live show. The RAMMSTEIN machine keeps rolling on and on, and 2013 will be no different: it promises to be one hot summer."

Wacken Open Air festival has confirmed the following bands:

Due to an overwhelming demand from Metal fans worldwide, Grammy-nominated and Juno award-winning Banger Films is setting out to raise funds to make what has become known as "The Lost Episode" a reality. 'Metal Evolution: Extreme Metal' "The Lost Episode" covers co-director Sam Dunn's favorite genres: Death Metal, Black Metal and Grindcore, and he is reaching out to metal fans to help make it happen!
"Hundreds of fans have emailed us demanding, pleading, that we do this episode," says Banger Films co-founder Sam Dunn. "So in response we're launching an IndieGoGo campaign to raise funding within the Metal community to finance the episode. The goal is to raise $175,000 in 90 days!" The campaign kicked off Friday, September 14th. Details of the campaign, including cool donor gifts at various contribution levels can be found here: http://www.indiegogo.com/ExtremeMetal
Originally broadcast on VH1 Classic (USA) and Much More Music (Canada), Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn's series Metal Evolution presented 11 episodes based on their "Heavy Metal Family Tree" originally shown in their groundbreaking documentary, Metal: A Headbanger's Journey. Host and metalhead-turned-anthropologist Sam Dunn crisscrossed the globe exploring the vast history of Heavy Metal across its 40+ year history, covering everything from the Pre-History of Metal and Shock Rock to Grunge and Thrash Metal. But one very important episode was left out: Extreme Metal. Perceived to be perhaps too niche or "extreme" to attract enough audience interest, the episode did not see the light of day, ironic considering it is Heavy Metal's most vibrant and fastest growing genre.
"For many fans, including myself, extreme metal is massively important. It continues to push metal forward, both sonically and aesthetically," says Sam. Alex Webster, co-founder/bass player of death metal legends Cannibal Corpse, agrees: "There's really no way that you could tell the complete story of heavy metal without including a chapter that covers extreme metal. And given their knowledge, experience, and passion for the genre of heavy metal, I think that Banger Films are the most qualified people to do it!"
Contributors' support will send Sam on a global journey from San Francisco and Tampa to the United Kingdom, Norway and Sweden to investigate the history, myths and intricacies of extreme metal. Sam will unravel the lineage between Extreme Metal's divergent branches - Death Metal, Grindcore and Black Metal - and meet with the sub-genre's most influential sonic architects, including members of Death, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Napalm Death, Entombed, Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Opeth, Enslaved and many more. The result will be an unforgettable portrait of metal's most iconoclastic sub-genre.
Recently, a hand written letter surfaced online via a Charles Manson fansite. Allegedly, the following letter was sent to shock rocker MARILYN MANSON by infamous serial killer Charles Manson! Here is a scan of the original letter, followed by a transcription (since they don't teach calligraphy in prison).
To Marilyn Manson –
It’s taken me a long time to get there from where I could touch M. Manson. Now I got a card to play – you may look into my non-profit, ATWA, and give Manson what you think he’s got coming for Air, Trees, Water, and you. Or I will pay Manson what you think Manson got coming – the music has make Manson into Abraxas Devil, and I’m SURE you would want some of what I got from what I got. It’s a far out balance. Beyond good and bad, right, wrong. What you don’t do is what I will do – what you did a sing-along, and let it roll and said how you saved me a lot of steps – I don’t need, it’s not a need or a want. Couped – coup. Ghost dancers slay together and you’re just in my grave Sunstroker Corona-coronas-coronae – you seen me from under with it all standing on me. That’s 2 dump trucks – doing the same as CMF 000007
The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund, founded in memory of the world-renowned voice of DIO, BLACK SABBATH and HEAVEN & HELL, will host its second awards gala on Halloween night, Wednesday, October 31 at the Avalon nightclub in Hollywood, California. "We are really looking forward to our second annual awards gala," says Dio Cancer Fund chairman Gloria Butler. "It will have quite a different feel from last year's inaugural extravaganza at the Playboy Mansion, this year replaced with ghosts and goblins on Halloween night at Avalon, an all-star jam, the amazing Cirque Berzerk, the fortune tellers, strolling magicians and free flowing delicacies. It's sure to be a 'spooktacular' night for a special cause."
Fund founder and president Wendy Dio adds: "The support the Dio Cancer Fund has received since its beginnings shortly after Ronnie's death has been overwhelming. Our mandate is cancer prevention, research and education, and we are proud and gratified to be able to recognize this year's honorees for their contributions toward spreading the word about our mission. Ronnie would have been so proud of what we have accomplished so far, and he would especially have loved to party on Halloween."
The Avalon is located at 1735 North Vine Street in Hollywood. General-admission tickets start at $200 with special VIP ticket packages that include reserved seating and admission to the Bardot Club are also available.

As previously reported, LAMB OF GOD's Randy Blythe spent five weeks
incarcerated in a Prague, Czech Republic prison. Blythe was released on
a $400,000 bail and was able to return to the United States on Friday,
August 3rd. Although LAMB OF GOD was forced to cancel their summer
co-headline tour with Dethklok and special guests Gojira, the band
performed at SLIPKNOT's "KnotFest". The series of
events took place on Friday, August 17th in Council Bluffs, Iowa and
Saturday, August 18th in Somerset, Wisconsin. The band has already announced a full blown U.S. tour (due to Blythe's legal situation, the band won't be going to Canada). Full details below.
Metal Hammer, recently conducted an in-depth interview with Blythe (Order the issue HERE!). A few excerpts of the interview follow:
“It still didn’t sink in that something weird was happening with my band, but as soon as I got to the top of the ramp, the first thing I noticed was four or five really large men with guns and great pig pointy knives, pistols and facemasks. All you could see was their eyes and their mouths and they looked like they were there to apprehend a terrorist.
“After a minute this woman goes, ‘Mr Blythe’, and I said, ‘Yes?’ and she’s looking at my passport, then she hands me a piece of paper that said I was to be charged with…well..we’re using the term ‘manslaughter’ because it’s the nearest translation in English. It said I was to be charged with, what I think in English would be, GBH, grievous bodily harm with malicious intent resulting in someone’s death.
“I was in the car with three plain-clothes homicide detectives, and one of them sort of spoke English, but not very well, and he started asking me, ‘So, what do you remember of this incident?’ Very conversationally. I was like, ‘You know, I really don’t know what’s happening right now so I want a lawyer’. When they hand you a piece of paper that says you’re being charged with manslaughter you know you aren’t just going to answer a few questions then walk out the door.”
Metal fans in prison:
“One of the guards who drove me was a metalhead. He knew who I was. He was like, ‘I’m sorry you have to be here. I like Finntroll and Rammstein.’ It’s a remand prison, so a little less than half the prisoners there are awaiting sentence and the rest are serving time, but I believe they’re mixed together. It’s a prison, not a jail, but from what I understood, the super-violent offenders were kept in their own ward.”
Ticket links for all shows are below:
This weekend (September 21, 22) tickets for 36 of the 38 shows on the
fall LAMB OF GOD tour will go on sale. The Atlanta show and the Kansas
City show will go on sale the following weekend (September 28, 29). As

Next up, AS I LAY DYING will launch a European tour October 15 with Trivium, Caliban and Upon A Burning Body before returning to the U.S. for California Metal Fest 6 at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, CA on Saturday, November 24.
'AWAKENED'--which marks the group's sixth studio album-- is garnering early critical acclaim. In his 4/5 star album review for Alternative Press magazine, writer Jason Schreurs hailed, "Screamer Tim Lambesis has never sounded better than on a Metal anthem like 'Overcome,' his shattered scream completely ripping faces. …Awakened is the best As I Lay Dying album you can point to as Metal both modernized and maximized." (October 2012). Elsewhere, in his 4/5 star album review for Artist Direct , Rick Florino singled out the preview track "Cauterized" as "An unshakable anthem, the song is the best kind of aural assault and battery from one of Heavy Metal's most dynamic outfits. Morphing from a steamrolling six-string storm courtesy of Nick Hipa and Phil Sgrosso, the track shifts into a polyrhythmic crusher fueled by drummer Jordan Mancino and bassist Josh Gilbert's immortal groove. Tim Lambesis seamlessly segues from a gruff growl into one of the group's tightest and toughest clean choruses to date." Florino adds, "'Cauterize' is a metallic remedy of the highest order. As I Lay Dying prove to be a genre leader by progressing while pummeling, and it's evidence that Awakened is another level altogether. They're set to wake up the genre with a landmark album." (September 2012)
For 'AWAKENED', the San Diego-based bandNICK HIPA (guitar), TIM LAMBESIS (vocals), JORDAN MANCINO (drums), PHIL SGROSSO (guitar) and JOSH GILBERT (bass)holed up in the Blasting Room in Fort Collins, CO with renowned rock producer Bill Stevenson (Descendents) and mixer Colin Richardson. 'AWAKENED' marks the follow-up to the Decas EP (2011) which reached # 2 on the iTunes Rock Chart. The group's last LP, 2010′s immensely successful 'The Powerless Rise', debuted on the Billboard Top 200 at #10. 'The Powerless Rise' also reached #2 on Billboard's Independent Albums Chart and #3 on Billboard's Hard Music Albums Chart. Fans can check out the first two "In the Studio" clips along with "Cauterize," at AsILayDying.com and MetalBlade.com/AsILayDying.com.

Today more than ever before, it is essential for promoters, artists and fans to keep the pulse of Heavy Music (the underground scene) alive and kicking! Ever since the inception of Horns Up Rocks, we have been actively involved in strengthening the underground Heavy Music scene. While many understand the importance of supporting the local artists and venues, there are still too many who are forgetting how essential it is to keep underground music breathing!
The "Underground MeTal Friday's" (Presented by Horns Up Rocks), returns tomorrow Friday (September 21st) to Fontanas Bar in New York City! This time around we don't only have 5 excellent bands, but we will also be celebrating the debut show of DRIVEN MAD (a band formed by previous members of KING HELL)! There is no reason why you should miss this EPIC event, so we hope to see you there.
Meet the bands that will be performing:
- DRIVEN MAD:
"Driven mad" sums up this NEW band's ethos well: the songs are surely driven; they're mad; and the intent is to push listeners past the brink of sanity--after a stopover in the emergency room. Founded by 3 former members of NYC's prominent Metal act King Hell --Samael (vocals), Motherfucker (guitar), and Dundon (drums)-- DRIVEN MAD’s sound ranges from Hard Core Thrash to crushing slabs of Sabbath. While the funk leanings and circus style stage show of King Hell are gone, a focus on evolved rhythms and a murderous live show remain. Says Samael: "Towards the end of King Hell, we were writing heavier and heavier songs. It was nothing cynical. Even though King Hell was theatrical, we always followed our hearts writing music--and, as it happened, our hearts were turning black."
- FIREHAZE:
FIREHAZE is a band integrated by four young Cubans that migrated to the city of West New York, New Jersey in the USA. They all shared a common dream, to become members of a Metal band, something that united their different tendencies of the genre. The sound of the band seems to be Melodic Death/Trash Metal with some Core influences, topped with the sound and, at times, ironic power of the keyboard.
- GIVETHEMROPE:
GIVETHEMROPE released their debut CD on June 16, 2012. The band chose Method of Groove Studio in Brooklyn NY (owned and engineered by Sony/Roadrunner recording artist Joey Z from Life of Agony) and the results are imminent. If you like down tuned Groove Metal blended with Hardcore and Blues, this band is for you!
- SHITKILL:
SHITKILL is a young NYC Metal band (ages 16,17) who have already done some good damage on the local Metal scene. After releasing their 'Asylum EP' in Fall 2010 (produced by Tomato of Sound Of Urchin, etc), they went on to play shows at such venues as The Highline Ballroom, Knitting Factory, and opened for Iron Maiden legend Paul Dianno at BB King's. SHITKILL's fresh take, reminiscent of classic bands like Sepultura, Slayer, and Pantera.
Scathing, pulsing, louder than hell, M-16's music is at times bombastic yet poetic in nature. Unapologetic lyrics sung in Spanish, scream tales of mortal disillusion, political terror, and the chaos of modern times. A band that believes in substance over style, M-16 is all the angst and frustration of real people channeled through guitars, drums and bass.
Spread the word and we hope to see YOU this Friday at Fontanas Bar in New York City! \m/
Wow! This just in: IRON MAIDEN will be headlining the 2013 edition of the Download Festival at Donington Park, England.
“We’re absolutely over the moon to be headlining Donington again,” says Iron Maiden frontman, pilot and professional legend Bruce Dickinson. “The idea of returning exactly 25 years later with a show inspired by that same 1988 Seventh Son Tour, was too good an opportunity to be missed! And, thanks to modern technology, we’ve been able to update and improve on the original production.”
Maiden took the Maiden England tour to the U.S. earlier this year!
“We will be bringing a huge NEW light show, stage set, various incarnations of Eddie, plenty of pyro and all kinds of other exciting stuff for the fans. And of course treating the fans to lots of their favorite songs from that period! We’ve had many great times at Donington and there is always a wonderful mix of bands and a really wild crowd who love their Metal, all of which makes for a memorable show and fantastic party atmosphere!”
“I am delighted to see the return of Iron Maiden to Download next year to mark the 25th anniversary of their first playing at Donington,” adds Live Nation’s Andy Copping. “They are without doubt one of the biggest bands in the world and their live shows are legendary. I caught them in Los Angeles and the audience reaction to the stunning stage production and incredible set-list was just phenomenal to witness. After watching rare performances of songs like 'Afraid To Shoot Strangers', 'The Prisoner' and 'Seventh Son', alongside classics like 'The Number Of The Beast', 'Aces High', 'The Trooper' and 'Fear of the Dark', I can’t wait to see this show again at Download 2013. It is sure to be something really special.”
Hellfire!
As previously reported, IRON MAIDEN's Steve Harris has a NEW solo album entitled 'British Lion'. The record contains ten songs that Steve and his collaborators have been working on for the past few years between MAIDEN's tours and releases.
With a decidedly heavy rock-vibe this roaring debut paints with a full palette of sounds; brooding, melancholic, righteously indignant and exuberantly heavy. With Kevin Shirley at the mixing helm – whose credits include Iron Maiden as well as Led Zeppelin, Journey and Rush among many others – this is an album to sink your teeth into.
From the growling riffage of opening salvo "This Is My God" to the heavy forlorn balladry of follow-up "Lost Worlds" which showcases Richard Taylor’s soaring vocals, it’s clear that ‘British Lion’ is an altogether different beast from MAIDEN.
"Karma Killer", with its dirge-like muscularity, and "Us Against The World", with its massive chorus, demonstrates just how far ‘British Lion’ has flexed Steve Harris’ considerable musical muscle. "Dovetailed" with guitarist David Hawkins’ positively gargantuan lyrical guitar melodies, it’s a mere hors d'oeuvre ahead of the epic, riffing-feast of "The Chosen Ones", with its swaggering bravado.
"A World Without Heaven", at a breathtaking seven minutes and infused with progressive elements without ever teetering into self-indulgence illustrates perfectly these songsmiths’ colossal abilities to create a mood and stay there. Supercharged by Steve Harris’ inimitable style, there’s an un-cynical vibe here that’s as refreshing as it is out of place in today’s all-too-categorised music industry.
And as far as the name ‘British Lion’; “I’ve always been proud to be British,” explains Steve, “I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t be. It’s a massive part of being me. It’s not like I’m flag-waving or trying to preach, this is not a political statement at all. It’s like supporting your football team, where you come from. I just think it lends itself to some really strong imagery too, and to me it fits in with the sound.”
Alright, enough reading! Crank Steve Harris' 'British Lion' right HERE! Courtesy of Metal Hammer.

As previously reported, SUFFOCATION are hard at work on their seventh studio album that is slated for a February/March (2013) release via Nuclear Blast Records. Additionally, the band will be inducted into the Long Island Hall Of Fame! This makes them the most extreme band to ever be inducted into such a legendary place.
The Long Island Hall Of Fame ceremony will take place at the Paramount Theater in Long Island, NY on October 18th for what promises to be a star-studded evening that will honor Long Island's rich musical history. Dee Snider will also be in attendance to receive the Harry Chapin Award.
On September 11th, we were at OBITUARY's "Carnival Of Death" tour at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City and we noticed that a few members of SUFFOCATION were present to support their friends bands! Thankfully, we had the brilliant idea of "kidnapping" Derek Boyer (bassist) to chat with him about all things SUFFOCATION.
During this EXCLUSIVE interview Boyer reveals the NEW album title, a few song names, he also explains the concept behind the record and how the band feels about being inducted into the Long Island Hall Of Fame. He also announced a special hometown show in order to celebrate this historic event in the bands career! Buckle up, crank it up to 11, and listen up!
Metal queen DORO PESCH will be returning to North America in 2013 to rock the masses in support of her twelfth solo album, 'Raise Your Fist'! The tour is set to commence on February 1st in Tampa, Florida with support provided by Sweden’s SISTER SIN. Exclusive pre-sale tickets can be purchased at EnterTheVault.com through October 5; afterwards, tickets will be available through all normal ticketing outlets.
Comments DORO of the long-awaited trek: “I’m so excited to tour North America again! I can’t wait to see all the great fans again and play the NEW songs off 'Raise Your Fist' and of course all the songs the fans love. It’ll be a set list with the best tunes, hard and fast and lots of anthems and surprises. We’ll have some very special guests at our New York City and Los Angeles shows too and killer support from SISTER SIN! I can’t wait to see you guys and wish you all the very best. Until then, raise your fist in the air and all we are will rule the ruins! I love you fuer immer! See you soon.”
'Raise Your Fist' is due out in the U.S. and Canada on November 6 via Nuclear Blast Records and features guest appearances by Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister as well as Ozzy/Firewind guitarist Gus G. Elaborated DORO of the release “Most important to me are the power hymns ‘Raise Your Fist In The Air’ and ‘Victory.’ Both songs have been played live on our last tour and also made last year’s Wacken Open Air shake! For the diehard fans of German songs like ‘Für Immer’ [‘Forever’], there are two songs in the same vein: the sensitive and quite dark ‘Human Rights’ and the very emotional ‘Engel’ [‘Angel’]. There are also a lot of fast songs like ‘Little Headbanger’ and various fist-pumping ones featuring amazing guests like Gus G on ‘Last Man Standing’ which fans are sure to dig live. We also have a song that honors the late Ronnie James Dio called ‘Hero’ and another highlight called ‘It Still Hurts’ featuring Lemmy. The cover artwork has once again been created by British artist Geoffrey Gillespie who is a close friend and companion since he made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for his 'Triumph And Agony' cover as the biggest album cover in the world. Since then, he’s done ten covers for us!”

We just came across this great list of social media tips and HAD to share them with you. The following tips were written by Simon Tam, who is the owner of Last Stop Booking and author of "How to Get Sponsorships and Endorsements". Simon’s writing on music and marketing can be found at www.laststopbooking.com. You can also follow him on Twitter @SimonTheTam.
Here are some helpful hints to help determine where you should stake your brand:
- Your target audience is already there: If your fans/potential fans are on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Mixi, Pinterest, etc. chances are that you should too. It’s an easy way for people to share about you and for content to become viral. However, it’s important to understand the nature of each of these sites... just because people are on the sites doesn’t mean that they’ll care about what you do on them. Whatever you do, it should resonate with the target audience there.
- When you have more than one audience: The same principles apply above if you have more than one target audience. For example, promoters are more likely to check out your ReverbNation than a casual fan.
- Can you do it well?: If you don’t have time/the ability to create something of quality, perhaps you should wait until you can (or at least grow the skills before pushing the site). You don’t want to fragment your brand by creating several poorly managed, out of date websites. These do reflect on your band. Instead, focus on what you can do well and have time to keep fresh, relevant, and looking good.
- Bring it all home: Whatever you decide to do with social media, make sure you loop those fans back into your own website/email list. Social media sites come and go but people should always be able to rely on your website and mailing list to get reliable content when they stop using social media sites. Don’t wait until Facebook becomes the next MySpace before you jump ship. Make your brand-controlled sites the ultimate destination for fan related content.

Lead singer Chino Moreno told Billboard.com
why the band got back to work faster than usual. "It was important
that we wanted to not drag it out," he said. "We have a well-documented
history of taking forever to make records. But with our last record,
we did it in a really short, good amount of time, probably four or five
months from the time we started writing until we finished it. For us,
that was record time, so this time the idea was, 'Let's go in and start
a record on this date and let's try to be finished by summertime and
keep this work ethic we kind of stumbled upon on the last one,' and we
did."
'Diamond Eyes' sold 62,000 copies in the US in
its first week and debuted at the Number 6 position on The Billboard
200 chart. 'Diamond Eyes' was the deftones first album, since their
bassist Chi Cheng had a horrific car accident on November 4, 2008. The
accident left him in a comatose state. Sergio Vega recorded 'Diamond
Eyes', toured with the band, and is back in the studio to record the
bands seventh studio album.
Asked
how the NEW DEFTONES disc sounds, Moreno told Billboard.com, "It's not
a super fast or slow record. It's very dynamic. Some of my favorite
things about DEFTONES are the dynamics. Yes, we're a heavy band, but
we're not just in-your-face aggro the whole time, punching you in the
face. There's a lot of aggression in some of the music,
but there's also this very soothing element where there's a lot of
soundscapes rather than attack, attack, attack the whole time. I
understand that's a big part of our sound, but I really feel like we
reached a peak on our dynamics on this record with those two qualities —
the beauty of something and just straight, ruthless aggression."
