Charlotte, North Carolina's WRETCHED was given the arduous task of opening the second edition of the "Metalliance" Tour. So far they have proven to be up to par with bands of the caliber of DevilDriver, Dying Fetus, The Faceless and Job For A Cowboy. With the release of their brand NEW album 'Sons Of Perdition' (out now via Victory Records), there is no doubt in our minds that WRETCHED will soon be upgraded from an opening band to a kick in the face headliner or direct support.
Recently, we had the chance to chat with WRETCHED's frontman Adam Cody at the "Metalliance Tour" in New York City. During the conversation, he discussed the bands NEW album 'Sons Of Peridtion', the bands plans for 2012, and the "Metalliance Tour". Watch it, share it, and go see WRETCHED live!

KRISIUN will be touring in support of their recently released, 8th studio album, 'The Great Execution', which can be purchased on CM Distro here. Produced by Andy Classen at Stage One Studio in Germany, 'The Great Execution' musically expands upon the trio's trademark high-speed Death Metal with an increased amount of diversity, ranging from extreme tempo variations over distinct rhythm patterns to clean guitars---and even Flamenco parts! KRISIUN also used only analog gear and instruments while recording this album to avoid the compressed sound that so many musicians produce today.

Crowned “an ass-kicking, skull-cracking record,” in a 4/5 review by Alternative Press, the nine-track production tackles a host of political and economic themes including media propaganda, the “war industry” and the staggering debts faced by America.
Visit the band’s OFFICIAL METAL BLADE PAGE (see link bellow) for Demonocracy pre-order info, limited edition merch bundles and the third in a series of instructional video posts featuring guitar wizard Tony Sannicandro. Dubbed "The Leads Are Weak," the mini clips offer playing tips and an up-close look at Sannicandro's astounding skills and technique. In the third installment, Sannicandro performs an exercise called “double dutch.” Sannicandro elaborates: "This is a two-note per string lick that incorporates a slight Dimebag feel and some chromatics. Two notes per string is often neglected by many guitar players, because three notes a string is much easier to get up to speed, but two note patterns are an OG way to put some bluesy flavor in your lick-age."
Stay tuned for more JOB FOR A COWBOY news including the upcoming video premiere of “Imperium Wolves.”

BIOHAZARD’s Billy Graziadei & SOULFLY's Marc Rizzo To Guest On NEW STRIFE Album!
Los Angeles based Hardcore band, STIRFE, just announced a guest appearance from Biohazard’s Billy Graziadei on their upcoming album (as of yet untitled). Billy will join a handful of other guests including Soulfly guitarist Marc Rizzo, Terror vocalist Scott Vogel, and former Sepultura drummer, Iggor Cavalera (who played drums for the whole record).
Graziadei tracked a verse at Firewater Studios in Los Angeles for the song entitled “Never Look Back”.
Graziadei had the following to say about his appearance:
“I met the guys in STRIFE back when we were recording the Biohazard album 'State of the World Address'. We hit it off pretty good and the guys helped us out with background vocals. It's cool to be able to return the favor and have the honor of singing on THEIR record now! With Iggor Cavalera on drums and Nick Jett producing the NEW cd, the guys are back stronger than ever! Hope to hit the road with them sometime during our tour for 'Reborn in Defiance'! “
A final release date, label, cover art and additional information will be revealed in the near future.

Swedish Black Metal Hordes WATAIN To Unleash 13th Anniversary DVD!
Swedish Black Metal heathens WATAIN are set to unleash a NEW DVD upon the masses. Titled 'Opus Diaboli', the production commemorates the band’s 13 years of chaos by providing a visual and audio documentation of their ceremonial anniversary concert performance in Stockholm and the long years of physical, intellectual and spiritual work leading up to it. 'Opus Diaboli' is an epic 90-minute journey into the forbidden realms of wild-hearted Satanic Metal and the manifestation of a unique band that has truly chosen a path few have ever dared to tread upon.
Comments the band in a collective statement: “This movie was first meant to be the recording of our 13-year anniversary concert, but as everything with WATAIN, it took on a life of its own and become one of our most ambitious projects to date. It is a very personal and emotional piece of work and is certainly not for the faint of heart. But for those who wish to explore the glimmering abyss of WATAIN further, this will be a rewarding release for sure. The box version of 'Opus Diaboli' [available exclusively through the band’s own WOLFWEAR.NET] contains an exclusive photobook. It was an overwhelming experience going through the massive archives in search of photos that best sum up the storm of passionate turmoil that has marked the WATAIN journey, especially since we wanted to stay away from live photos and focus more on moments off stage. The results were however very satisfying and offer a rare and spicy mixture of photos of which most have never been published previously. We are also proud to announce that this will be the first release on our own label "His Master’s Noise", a name originating from Bathory who had it in mind for their own label back in the early 1980s. Just like with our merch store WOLFWEAR.NET from which the limited box set will be available, this time we have chosen to stand by our own and do things our way.”
- 'Opus Diaboli' DVD: A four-panel digipack including the DVD, two audio CDs featuring the full concert plus a 16-page booklet with historical photos and flyers.
- 'Opus Diaboli' Box: Limited 12” box including the DVD, two audio CDs and two LPs featuring the full concert plus an exclusive 64-page booklet with historical photos and flyers.
Opus Diaboli will be unleashed in North America on June 5, 2012!
Beginning on April 11th and laying waste through a gargantuan 26-date run, the Decibel Magazine Tour (presented by Metal Blade Records, IndieMerchStore.com, FYE, ESP Guitars and Good Fight Entertainment) not only offers four diverse European artists hand-picked by the magazine, but doubles as Behemoth's first U.S. tour since vocalist/guitarist Adam "Nergal" Darski's well-documented battle with and triumph over leukemia.

18 Years Ago NIRVANA's Kurt Cobain Left An Entire Generation Mourning!
Today, April 5, 2012, marks the 18th death anniversary of the legendary singer Kurt Cobain (NIRVANA). Cobain was born on February 20, 1967 in Aberdeen, Washington, U.S. and died on April 5, 1994 in Seattle, Washington, U.S.
Cobain was born at Grays Harbor Hospital to a waitress, Wendy Elizabeth (née Fradenburg), and an automotive mechanic, Donald Leland Cobain. His ancestry included Irish, English, Scottish, and German. Cobain had one younger sister named Kimberly, born in 1970.
His family had a musical background. His uncle Chuck Fradenburg starred in a band called The Beachcombers, his Aunt Mari Earle played guitar and performed in bands throughout Grays Harbor County, and his great-uncle Delbert had a career as an Irish tenor; making an appearance in the 1930 film King of Jazz.
Cobain's talent as an artist was evident from an early age. His bedroom was described as having taken on the appearance of an art studio, where he would accurately draw his favorite characters from films and cartoons such as Aquaman, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Disney characters like Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse and Pluto. Cobain began developing an interest in music early in his life. According to his Aunt Mari, he began singing at two years old. At age four, Cobain started playing the piano and singing, writing a song about their trip to a local park. He listened to artists like the Ramonesand would sing songs like Arlo Guthrie's "Motorcycle Song," The Beatles' "Hey Jude", Terry Jacks' "Seasons in the Sun" and the theme song to The Monkees television show at a young age.
When Cobain was seven, his parents divorced. Later in his life, he said the divorce had a profound effect on his life. His mother noted that his personality changed dramatically; Cobain became defiant and withdrawn. In a 1993 interview, he elaborated:
"I remember feeling ashamed, for some reason. I was ashamed of my parents. I couldn't face some of my friends at school anymore, because I desperately wanted to have the classic, you know, typical family. Mother, father. I wanted that security, so I resented my parents for quite a few years because of that."
Music quickly became the perfect outlet for Cobain. Cobain began learning guitar with a few covers, including "Louie Louie" and The Cars' "My Best Friend's Girl", and soon began working on his own songs. During high school, Cobain rarely found anyone with whom he could play music. While hanging out at the Melvins' practice space, he met Krist Novoselic, a fellow devotee of Punk Rock. Novoselic's mother owned a hair salon. Cobain and Novoselic would occasionally practice in the upstairs room of the salon. A few years later, Cobain tried to convince Novoselic to form a band with him by lending him a copy of a home demo recorded by Cobain's earlier band, Fecal Matter. After months of asking, Novoselic finally agreed to join Cobain, forming the beginnings of Nirvana.
Cobain was disenchanted after early touring, due to the band's inability to draw substantial crowds and the apparent difficulty in sustaining themselves. During their first few years playing together, Novoselic and Cobain were hosts to a rotating list of drummers. Eventually, the band settled on Chad Channing, with whom Nirvana recorded their debut album 'Bleach', released on Sub Pop Records in 1989. Cobain, however, became dissatisfied with Channing's style, leading the band to find a NEW drummer, eventually settling on Dave Grohl. With Grohl, the band found their greatest success via their 1991 major-label debut, 'Nevermind'.
With the lead single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from Nirvana's second album 'Nevermind' (1991), Nirvana entered the mainstream, popularizing a subgenre of Alternative Rock called Grunge. Since their debut, Nirvana, with Cobain as a songwriter, have sold over 25 million albums in the United States alone, and over 50 million worldwide.
'Nevermind's' success provided numerous Seattle bands such as Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden to wider audiences, and as a result, Alternative Rock became a dominant genre on radio and MTV in the United States during the early-to-middle 1990s. Nirvana was considered the "flagship band of Generation X", and frontman Cobain found himself reluctantly anointed by the media as the generation's "spokesman." Cobain's discomfort with the media attention prompted him to focus on the band's music and, believing their message and artistic vision to have been misinterpreted by the public, challenged the band's audience with its third and last studio album 'In Utero' (1993).
Following a tour stop at Terminal Eins in Munich, Germany, on March 1, 1994, Cobain was diagnosed with bronchitis and severe laryngitis. He flew to Rome the next day for medical treatment, and was joined there by his wife, Courtney Love, on March 3, 1994. The next morning, Love awoke to find that Cobain had overdosed on a combination of champagne and Rohypnol. Cobain was immediately rushed to the hospital, and spent the rest of the day unconscious. After five days in the hospital, Cobain was released and returned to Seattle. Love later stated that the incident was Cobain's first suicide attempt.
On April 8, 1994, Cobain's body was discovered at his Lake Washington home by an electrician who had arrived to install a security system. Apart from a minor amount of blood coming out of Cobain's ear, the electrician reported seeing no visible signs of trauma, and initially believed that Cobain was asleep until he saw the shotgun pointing at his chin. A suicide note was found, addressed to Cobain's childhood imaginary friend "Boddah", that said, paraphrasing, "I haven't felt the excitement of listening to as well as creating music, along with really writing... for too many years now". A high concentration of heroin and traces of diazepam were also found in his body. Cobain's body had been lying there for days; the coroner's report estimated Cobain to have died on April 5, 1994.
Kurt, you are deeply missed by an entire generation of music fans! Crank up some NIRVANA and put your Horns way Up for Kurt Cobain!

Layne Staley was born to Phil Staley and Nancy Staley (née McCallum) in Kirkland, Washington. When he was was seven years old his parents got divorced, after which he was raised by his mother and stepfather, Jim Elmer (whose last name he took while enrolled in Meadowdale High School). He was raised Catholic.
He would describe the experience of witnessing his parents' divorce: "My world became a nightmare, there were just shadows around me. I got a call saying that my dad had died, but my family always knew he was around doing all kinds of drugs. Since that call I always was wondering, 'Where is my dad?' I felt so sad for him and I missed him. He dropped out of my life for 15 years."
Staley's musical career began when he started playing drums at the age of 12 years old. He jammed with various glam bands in his early teens, but Staley wanted to become a singer. In 1985, Staley formed a band called Sleze, which also featured Johnny Bacolas and James Bergstrom (who later started Second Coming). With the addition of guitarist Nick Pollock in 1986, Sleze morphed into Alice In Chains, a band which Staley said "dressed in drag and played speed Metal."
The inception of Alice N' Chains saw the band performing around the Seattle area playing Slayer and Armored Saint covers. This all changed when Staley met guitarist Jerry Cantrell while working at Music Bank rehearsal studios, and the two fast friends lived as roommates for over a year in the dilapidated rehearsal space they shared.
Alice N' Chains soon disbanded and Staley joined a funk band who at the time also required a guitarist. He asked Cantrell to join as a sideman. Cantrell agreed on condition that Staley join Cantrell's band, which at the time included drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Starr. In 1986, Staley met Seattle underground guitarist Tim Barnes at a local Seattle bar. Barnes would later be offered a position in Alice N' Chains but declined. Eventually the funk project broke up and in 1987 Staley joined Cantrell on a full-time basis. The band eventually took the name of Alice In Chains, and quickly became a powerhouse!
On April 19, 2002, Staley's accountants contacted Staley's mother Nancy McCallum and informed her that no money had been withdrawn from the singer's bank account in two weeks. McCallum then placed a call with 911 to say "she hadn't heard from… [Staley] in about two weeks." The police went with McCallum and her husband to Staley's home, "When police kicked in the door to Layne Staley's University District apartment on April 19, there, on a couch, lit by a flickering TV, next to several spray-paint cans on the floor, not far from a small stash of cocaine, near two crack pipes on the coffee table, reposed the remains of the rock musician." The article also stated that the 6'1" Staley weighed just 86 pounds when his body was discovered.[35] The autopsy report later concluded that Staley had died after injecting a mixture of heroin and cocaine known as a "speedball".
In an interview on VH1's Celebrity Rehab with McCallum, former Alice in Chains bass player Mike Starr said that he spent time with Staley the day before he died as Starr's birthday was April 4. Starr claimed that Staley was very sick but would not call 911.
Please put your HORNS UP for Layne Staley and crank up some ALICE IN CHAINS in his memory!

"The Father Of Loud" Jim Marshall (Founder Of MARSHALL Amps) Dies At The Age Of 88 - Rock In Peace!
Jim Marshall |
“My wife and I were with him when he passed away,” said Terry. “He got cancer toward the end of last year, and had surgery for that, and it came back. He was in a terrible state the last five or six weeks. He’s in a much better place now.”
Former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash commented; "The news of Jim Marshall passing is deeply saddening. R & R will never be the same without him. But, his amps will live on FOREVER!"
Known as "The Father of Loud" or "The Lord of Loud", Jim Marshall was an English businessman, and pioneer of guitar amplification. His company, Marshall Amplification, is used by some of the biggest names in rock, producing amplifiers with an iconic status. Marshall received an OBE honour for "services to the music industry and to charity". Marshall has been listed as one of the four forefathers of Rock music equipment along with Leo Fender, Les Paul and Seth Lover.
Jim, thank you for changing music forever and may your soul Rock In Peace! Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jim's family, friends, and everyone at Marshall Amps!

KILL DEVIL HILL & ADRENALINE MOB To Join Forces On A Short US Tour!
Kill Devil Hill and Adrenaline Mob are heading out on the road together for what will be a memorable night of Hard Rock music. The run, which will be comprised of current and former members of Black Sabbath, Pantera, Dream Theater, Symphony X and Disturbed, kicks off on May 10th in Cleveland. The tour will make stops in Dallas, Chicago and Orlando before wrapping up in Charlotte, NC on May 22. The shows will feature Kill Devil Hill followed by Adrenaline Mob and then end in all out jam between the two groups. Special VIP Packages, including exclusive items and meet and greets will be available for each band.
Please check with the band's respective websites for details. Adrenaline Mob is the powerhouse vocals of Russell Allen (Symphony X), the shredding guitar attack of Mike Orlando (Sonic Stomp), the rhythmic bass playing of John Moyer (Disturbed) and the drumming virtuosity of Mike Portnoy (Ex Dream Theater/Avenged Sevenfold). Kill Devil Hill is comprised of famed bassist Rex Brown, (Pantera, Down) drum monster Vinny Appice (former drummer with Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven And Hell), guitar virtuoso Mark Zavon and vocalist Dewey Bragg.
Kill Devil Hill are gearing up to release their self-titled debut album on May 22nd via SPV/Steamhammer. In 2009 Vinny had found the perfect guitarist in Zavon, who was also looking to start a NEW band. Zavon played a demo he had recorded with vocalist Dewey Bragg, and Vinny was floored. With the three members in place Vinny asked his long time friend Rex Brown to play bass on a demo track called "War Machine". Rex immediately agreed and the final puzzle piece was in place for the formation of Kill Devil Hill.
Adrenaline Mob will be touring in support of their Elm City Records debut 'Omertá'. The record debuted Top 5 on the Billboard Rock Album chart when it was released on March 13. The band reached #5 on the chart and also was #62 on the Billboard Top 200 selling over 6600 copies its first week. The album has been getting amazing reviews with Revolver declaring "If you dig hard-hitting modern Metal, then Adrenaline Mob's 11-track debut offers some monstrous moments." Adrenaline Mob formed in 2011 when Sonic Stomp founder Orlando, who had been working on a collection of songs, approached Symphony X vocalist Allen with a concept and idea for the band. Together they joined forces and refined those ideas. Allen then reached out to long-time friend and ex Dream Theater/Avenged Sevenfold drummer Portnoy to see if he had any interest in playing with them. Portnoy jumped on-board and from the very first note, the chemistry and sound was apparent. In late 2011, Portnoy recruited Disturbed's Moyer to fill the vacant bass slot and the beast that is known as Adrenaline Mob was born.
KILL DEVIL HILL/ADRENALINE MOB TOUR DATES:
- May 10: Cleveland, OH at House Of Blues
- May 11: Flint, MI at The Machine Show
- May 13: Chicago, IL at House Of Blues
- May 15: Dallas, TX at Trees

DEFTONES To Release NEW Album In _________
DEFTONES heads, we have very exciting news for you all! Recently, Chino Moreno spoke with Vorterix Rock 103.1 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and he told them that the DEFTONES have completed pre-production for their seventh studio album. The band will be entering the studio within the next few days.
"We start recording next week," said Chino. "Right before I came last week, we finished all the writing, so next week, when I get back, we start recording and we should have a record that comes out early fall… October. Maybe September."
The as of yet entitled NEW DEFTONES album will the follow up to the critically acclaimed 'Diamond Eyes', released on May 4, 2010. 'Diamond Eyes' sold 62,000 copies in the US in its first week and debuted at the Number 6 position on The Billboard 200 chart. 'Diamond Eyes' was the deftones first album, since their bassist Chi Cheng had a horrific car accident on November 4, 2008. The accident left him in a comatose state. Sergio Vega recorded 'Diamond Eyes', toured with the band, and plans to do so again on the bands seventh studio album.
Stay tuned for more updates on the DEFTONES!

SLAYERheads! Are You Ready To Reign In Wine?
SLAYER alcoholicos! Thrash Metal legends SLAYER have released their own Sweden-exclusive red wine. Appropriately baptized "Reign In Blood", this wine is the ultimate celebratory drink when cranking the band's classic album (arguable the most influential Heavy Music album in history), which came out in 1986.
That's right, SLAYER will be joining MOTÖRHEAD, AC/DC and KISS in the line of alcoholic products offered to the headbangers of the world! Just remember: ENJOY RESPONSIBLY!
The wine, a Cabernet Sauvignon from California, is as uncompromising and tough as the band. After a couple of Seasons in the Abyss, the wine has an undisputed attitude and a soft nose of dark berry fruits with oak and spicy nuances. Good mouth feel with hints of fresh fruit and juicy, smooth tannins. Well structured and rounded with subtle notes of oak, showing true Divine Intervention. Enjoy it while headbanging, riffing or with food, friends and great music. Reign in Wine!
- Name: SLAYER "Reign In Blood" Red Cabernet Sauvignon
- Item No.: 74527-09
- Year: 2010
- Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon
- Origin: California, USA
- Quantity: 6 bottles (cardboard)
- Price: 714 SEK (approximately $107) per cardboard box (6 bottles)
As previously reported, SLAYER will be co-headlining the 2012 ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK MAYHEM FESTIVAL:
6/30 – San Bernardino, CA
7/1 – San Francisco, CA
7/3 – Seattle, WA
7/6 – Phoenix, AZ

Masters of Reality) and Bob Rock (Metallica, Bush, The Cult's Sonic Temple), recorded in New York City, Los Angeles, the California high desert and the band's Witch Mountain studio between July and December 2011, and written by Astbury and Duffy.
"When we were writing and recording 'Choice of Weapon,'" explained Astbury, "we had no agenda, there was no particular destination, no place to be, and no chart position to aim for. We took our time, we went in, we grabbed the jewels, and stayed focused on keeping everything as fresh and as raw as possible. The new songs are a sharpened and heightened extension of everything we have ever done."
On these North American dates, The Cult will play many of their classics as well as introduce fans to some of their new songs, including "Lucifer" - not a song about the devil, but a reference to the morning star, the idea of a journey through darkness and decadence to find the road to wisdom - "Honey From a Knife" - based on the Buddhist teaching about the seductiveness of addiction - and "For The Animals," the first official single from Choice of Weapon. "For The Animals" asserts the rising tensions, the rage and hostility of the growing group of disenfranchised youth in our society.
"Again, we find ourselves with our backs against the wall," Astbury continued, "and we like that, we like being outside the perimeter. We're the long shot, so place your bet on us."

GOJIRA Announce NEW Album Title & Release Date!
French Metal act Gojira, easily one of the most buzzed about and beloved extreme bands of the past five years, have revealed 'L'Enfant Sauvage' as the title of their Roadrunner Records debut. The title translates to "The Wild Child." The album, which features 11 tracks of mind-bending, thunderous Metal, is scheduled to land at retail on June 26.

"With freedom comes responsibility, so I'm asking myself, 'What is freedom? What does it mean to me?' L'Enfant Sauvage reflects on that. There's no answer though. There's just life and questions."
A special collector's package of 'L'Enfant Sauvage' will feature two bonus tracks and a double-colored vinyl version of the record, along with an exclusive t-shirt. Pre-orders will launch here shortly.
