Comedy Skit Inspired By RUSH's Nomination For The 2013 Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame!

As previously announced, RUSH is one of 15 finalists for induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame's Class Of 2013.

For the first time, the public gets to vote alongside the artists, historians and music industry insiders of the Rock Hall voting body. From now until December 5, fans can vote on RollingStone.com for the nominees they'd like to see inducted. The top five acts will comprise a "fan's ballot" that will count as one of the more than 600 ballots that determine the Class Of 2013. The results will be announced in mid-December.

The April 18, 2013 event is set for Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, marking the first time the ceremony will be held in the city since 1993. HBO will tape the show for broadcast at a later date.

A recent episode of the "This Hour Has 22 Minutes", the long-running CBC series that jeers Canadian politics and current events, included a skit on RUSH's nomination for induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame's Class Of 2013. Watch it below.

The Canadian rock trio has been eligible for the honor since 1999, 25 years after the release of the band's self-titled debut album. "I'm really happy for the RUSH fans who feel that it is really important, and I hope we're inducted for their sake," RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson told NorthJersey.com. "Personally it never really mattered to me, but at the same time it's nice to be nominated."

According to Lifeson, the Rock Hall induction would pale in comparison to the band's having received one of the prestigious Governor General's Performing Arts Awards for Lifetime Artistic Achievement in March, the highest honor bestowed on artists by the Canadian government.

"The acknowledgement we got from the Canadian government, and by extension Canadians, is very dear to us," Lifeson said. "The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is more a popularity contest."

During a recent interview with Premier Guitar, RUSH's own Alex Lifeson has stated that Rush are into their final years as a touring band. As Classic Rock notes, the guitarist has cited the band’s other commitments outside of music, as well as drummer Neil Peart turning 60 years old as reasons that the band might not be around forever.

RUSH To Retire From The Music Scene Soon? Read All About It!

During a recent interview with Premier Guitar, RUSH's own Alex Lifeson has stated that Rush are into their final years as a touring band. As Classic Rock notes, the guitarist has cited the band’s other commitments outside of music, as well as drummer Neil Peart turning 60 years old as reasons that the band might not be around forever:

"One day we’re not going to be able to do it any more. That’s a reality and I don’t think we should get too caught up in it.

“We’ve had a great run, we’ve left a great legacy that we’re proud of, and who knows what will come after that? I think my fingers will still work for a little while longer; I like to do stuff at home, to work with other people and continue to be musical.

"But there are other things in life, too, especially when you’ve dedicated your life to touring. We love what we do, but eventually it does come to an end. I don’t want to be 70 years old jumping around on stage. If we’re still making good music, sure – but I doubt it: most 70-year-old rock musicians I see are not really that enjoyable to watch."

Frontman Geddy Lee also notes that the band isn’t sure how much longer they can go out and play at peak level, reflecting drummer Neil Peart’s recent comment that he wasn’t sure how much longer his stamina would last:

"How much longer can we go out there and play three-hour shows at that peak level?

"I can see it in him. I don’t think we’ve ever worked so hard prepping for touring and I could see he was tired. There comes a point when you have to accept you’re approaching 60 and that three hours of blistering rock is for a younger man. That’s what he’s getting at."
