Guitar legend Robert William Gary Moore was found dead this morning in a hotel room in Estepona, Spain at the age of 58. Gary Moore's spectacular career will always be remembered by the Blues and Rock N Roll community. During his 42 years of musical creation, he was part of Thin Lizzy, Skid Row, Colosseum II, Phil Lynott, Greg Lake and BBM. You may not know this, but there are a lot of Heavy Music guitarists that were influenced by Gary Moore's music. A few of this musicians that come to mind are: Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath and Heaven And Hell), Randy Rhodes (Ozzy Osbourne), and Alex Skolnick (Testament and the Alex Skolnick Trio). He also collaborated with British Heavy Music legend Ozzy Osbourne! Gary will be missed by everyone in the music community and our thoughts are prayers are with his family and fans.
Gary Moore's career began at the tender age of 16, when he left his home in Belfast, Ireland and moved to Dublin to join Skid Row (the Blues band). From that moment on he became an active member of the Blues and Rock N Roll community. Here are some facts about Gary Moore's amazing career:
- Gary Moore picked up a battered acoustic guitar at the age of eight, and got his first "real" guitar at the age of 14.
- Even though he was a left handed guitar player like Jimi Hendrix, he learned how to play the "standard" way.
- His top musical influences were: Albert King, Elvis Presley and The Beatles. His musical mentor was Peter Green from Fletwood Mac. But the performance that change his musical vision was when he saw Jimi Hendrix and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers in his home town of Belfast, from that moment on he adopted the Blues Rock style which dominated his career.
- During his successful career he experimented with Rock, Jazz, Blues, Country, Electric Blues, Hard Rock and Heavy Metal music.
