As you already know, METALLICA are going to take their sweet time before they release the follow up to 2008's 'Death Magnetic'. Up until now the bands legions of fans had no idea why the band is taking so long to release a NEW record. Well, during a recen interview with Gary Graff of Billboard, James Hetfield explained why the band hasn't even began recording their next sonic assault.
“I want it done yesterday,” frontman James Hetfield tells Billboard about Metallica’s next album, “and (Orion Music Festival) and this movie is keeping us pretty busy at this point and it’s taking a lot of our time and effort. We’ve been touring some obscure places; I guess basically what we’re trying to do is pay for this movie, so the touring is keeping us from getting in there and finishing the record. Right now the focus is on the movie.”
Hetfield did mention that the band has made a start on a NEW album.
“Yeah, we got out into the room and jammed and we’ve come up with enough material for a record, for sure,” Hetfield says. “We’ve gone through maybe one-tenth of the material that’s on our riffs CDs. We’ve got enough for an album, we just haven’t had enough time to really focus on it and dial in and start whittling it into these masterpieces, hopefully.”

As recently announced, IMAX Corporation and Picturehouse have announced that Metallica "Through the Never" will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX® 3D format and released wide in North America exclusively into IMAX® theatres for a one-week engagement starting Friday, September 27. The film will expand into additional theatres on October 4.

Cape Town's Channel24 recently spoke to METALLICA's own Lars Ulrich when the band returned to South Africa for three shows — one in Johannesburg and two in Cape Town. During the interview, Ulrich offered the following update regarding the bands 10th studio album:
"It would surprise me if the next full-length METALLICA record would come out before 2015. It takes us awhile to make records, and we're also so busy with so many other things. But we'll get around to it eventually."
What are the band members busy with? filmmaker Nimród Antal's captivating 3D movie featuring one of music's
most enduring and iconic bands, will be digitally re-mastered into the
immersive IMAX® 3D format and released wide in North America exclusively
into IMAX® theatres for a one-week engagement starting Friday, September
27. The film will expand into additional theatres on October 4.
Starring Metallica, a cast of thousands of their fans and breakout star Dane DeHaan (Chronicle, The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Metallica Through the Never is written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Nimród Antal (Predators, Kontroll) and produced by former IMAX film producer Charlotte Huggins (Journey to the Center of the Earth).
The film marries groundbreaking footage and editing techniques with a
compelling narrative, in which a band crew member (played by DeHaan) is
sent out on a mission during Metallica's roaring live set in front of a
sold-out arena. While on this mission, he unexpectedly has his life
turned completely upside down.
"IMAX! It doesn't get bigger or cooler than that!" said Lars Ulrich
who formed Metallica in 1981 together with James Hetfield. "For four
guys in a Rock band of average height, to get a chance to unleash their
3D film on IMAX screens the size of buildings across the country is a

is no better way to experience film and when you throw in the spectacle
of music and sound this should amount to an unprecedented, unique and

On this day, twenty four years ago, METALLICA released their epic album '...And Justice for All'. The bands fourth studio album was released on August 25, 1988 via Elektra Records. It was the group's first full studio album to feature bassist Jason Newsted, following the death of Cliff Burton in 1986. '...And Justice for All' was certified 8x platinum by the RIAA on June 9, 2003.
The front cover depicts the statue of Lady Justice cracked, bound by ropes, her breasts exposed, and both of her scales filled with dollars. The words "…And Justice for All" are written in graffiti-like lettering to the right. The cover art was created by Stephen Gorman, based on a concept developed by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. '...And Justice for All' was Metallica's final collaboration with longtime producer Flemming Rasmussen. The album was initially released on one vinyl disc, but soon after re-released (without additional tracks) as a double-album.

portion of the movie and have our last chance for quite some time to
play on the gigantic, massive over-the-top stage that we rolled out in
Mexico City, took to Edmonton and end our film excursion/mini tour with
in Vancouver. As we have been saying a lot recently we would love to
have you join us and be a part of our movie making adventure.

how it works: We will be running though the full live show one last
time at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, but unlike the Friday and Saturday
shows there will be lots of breaks in it to allow for cameras and lights

"As you know, we generally make it a policy not to comment on gossip or rumors, but we also pride ourselves on being first with 'Tallica news. So, with that said, the more astute of you may have noticed a couple of mentions in trade publications, and most recently in the new issue of Rolling Stone, that a Metallica 3D movie is in the works. We're here to tell you that, yes, there is indeed a 3D project in the very early stages of production! We wish we could tell you more right now, but we don't have all the finer points nailed down just yet. What we can tell you is that we are planning on being in a theater near you sometime in 2013 and as you hear us say ever so often, this will be the space for all the details as we finalize them."
According to Deadline.com, Metallica will be self-financing a 3D feature film, and the band has recruited producer Charlotte Huggins ("Journey To The Center Of The Earth" and "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island") to work on the project, for which a director was being sought.
