METALLICA's 3D Movie to be available at IMAX® theatres!
IMAX Corporation and Picturehouse today announced that Metallica Through the Never, filmmaker Nimród Antal's captivating 3D movie featuring one of music's most enduring and iconic bands, will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX® 3D format and released wide in North America exclusively into IMAX® theatres for a one-week engagement starting Friday, September 27. The film will expand into additional theatres on October 4.
Starring Metallica, a cast of thousands of their fans and breakout star Dane DeHaan (Chronicle, The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Metallica Through the Never is written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Nimród Antal (Predators, Kontroll) and produced by former IMAX film producer Charlotte Huggins (Journey to the Center of the Earth). The film marries groundbreaking footage and editing techniques with a compelling narrative, in which a band crew member (played by DeHaan) is sent out on a mission during Metallica's roaring live set in front of a sold-out arena. While on this mission, he unexpectedly has his life turned completely upside down.
"IMAX! It doesn't get bigger or cooler than that!" said Lars Ulrich who formed Metallica in 1981 together with James Hetfield. "For four guys in a Rock band of average height, to get a chance to unleash their 3D film on IMAX screens the size of buildings across the country is a mind-blowing thought. 'Hey look, Mom, I'm 50 feet tall (finally!)' There is no better way to experience film and when you throw in the spectacle of music and sound this should amount to an unprecedented, unique and truly next level experience."
The IMAX 3D release of Metallica Through the Never will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

METALLICA Celebrates 24 Years Of '...And Justice For All'!
On this day, twenty four years ago, METALLICA released their epic album '...And Justice for All'. The bands fourth studio album was released on August 25, 1988 via Elektra Records. It was the group's first full studio album to feature bassist Jason Newsted, following the death of Cliff Burton in 1986. '...And Justice for All' was certified 8x platinum by the RIAA on June 9, 2003.
The front cover depicts the statue of Lady Justice cracked, bound by ropes, her breasts exposed, and both of her scales filled with dollars. The words "…And Justice for All" are written in graffiti-like lettering to the right. The cover art was created by Stephen Gorman, based on a concept developed by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. '...And Justice for All' was Metallica's final collaboration with longtime producer Flemming Rasmussen. The album was initially released on one vinyl disc, but soon after re-released (without additional tracks) as a double-album.
Track-listing:
1. "Blackened"
2. "...And Justice for All"
3. "Eye of the Beholder"
4. "One"
5. "The Shortest Straw"
6. "Harvester of Sorrow"
7. "The Frayed Ends of Sanity"
8. "To Live Is to Die"
9. "Dyers Eve"
Crank '...And Justice For All" right now!
As previously reported, METALLICA will be releasing a 3D movie next summer! And guess what! You can be in the first-ever Metalli-3D! Here is the bands official statement:
"You may have heard us mention just once or twice (or 700 times!) that a Metalli-3D movie is in the works... we now need your help to finish filming it!! This Monday, August 27, we will be shooting what we hope will be the final live portion of the movie and have our last chance for quite some time to play on the gigantic, massive over-the-top stage that we rolled out in Mexico City, took to Edmonton and end our film excursion/mini tour with in Vancouver. As we have been saying a lot recently we would love to have you join us and be a part of our movie making adventure.
"Here's how it works: We will be running though the full live show one last time at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, but unlike the Friday and Saturday shows there will be lots of breaks in it to allow for cameras and lights to be repositioned as the director sees fit. Since it is way more fun for us to have YOU there, tickets will be available for just $5 (no extra fees or service charges!) and all the proceeds will benefit the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
Click HERE to obtain a password and then head over to www.ticketmaster.ca. Fan Club members should log in to www.metallica.com NOW for more details about a special pre-sale starting later today. Finally, tickets will be available to the general public Sunday, August 26 at 9:00 AM. There will be no floor tickets for sale (too many cameras!) and there is a four ticket per person limit. Lower bowl tickets will be assigned a section, but are G.A. within that section.
"Doors open at 5:00 PM for this "show," and we hit the stage at 6:30 PM sharp... we're starting a little early to allow the movie people to do what they do. So please come and plan to stay for a full night of fun and games... and who knows, maybe we'll see you on the big screen next summer!"

Metallica 3D Movie - Official Statement Available!
"As you know, we generally make it a policy not to comment on gossip or rumors, but we also pride ourselves on being first with 'Tallica news. So, with that said, the more astute of you may have noticed a couple of mentions in trade publications, and most recently in the new issue of Rolling Stone, that a Metallica 3D movie is in the works. We're here to tell you that, yes, there is indeed a 3D project in the very early stages of production! We wish we could tell you more right now, but we don't have all the finer points nailed down just yet. What we can tell you is that we are planning on being in a theater near you sometime in 2013 and as you hear us say ever so often, this will be the space for all the details as we finalize them."
According to Deadline.com, Metallica will be self-financing a 3D feature film, and the band has recruited producer Charlotte Huggins ("Journey To The Center Of The Earth" and "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island") to work on the project, for which a director was being sought.
Stay tuned for more information!

Top 10 Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Time According to Gibson!
Heavy Metal is the most hard-hitting musical style when it comes to Rock N' Roll. With guitars cranked up to 11, fast beats, and in your face vocals, Heavy Metal soothes even the most savage beast. The electric guitar is an essential part of the genre and if there is a guitar company to blame for the soundscape of Heavy Metal, it has to be Gibson. Throughout history, there have been a ton of guitarists who have shape up the sound of Heavy Metal. Here are the Top 10 Heavy Metal guitarists of All Time, according to Gibson.
10. George Lynch (Dokken)
With fantastic solos and a high-energy, guitar-wizard style, George Lynch helped drive Dokken towards mainstream Rock success, before the original lineup disbanded, leaving Lynch to pursue his own solo fame. Lynch still issues solo albums regularly, and tracks such as “Son of Scary” (which packs a pretty snazzy hook from Lynch) and smoky blues-rocker “Son or Scary” (off 2011’s 'Kill All Control') show creativity and killer shred-work haven’t run dry from this former headbanger.
9. Dave Murray and Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden)
When Iron Maiden came onto the scene, guitarists Dave Murray and Adrian Smith were quickly recognized for their high-speed agility of soloing, sinuous technique and telepathic rhythm work in partnership together. This duo, so it seemed, were true musical soulmates. Adrian Smith left Iron Maiden after 1988’s Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, altering the band’s musical chemistry and foreshadowing a grim creative drop for a period. But with Smith and Murray both back in tow, Iron Maiden are at their proggiest, and almost every track on 2010’s 'Final Frontier' has a riff-heavy chorus that leaves its own stamp.
8. Adam Jones (Tool)
Tool had a talent for capturing the choked up angst of ’90s alternative America and spitting it out in the form of striking Metal songs that had something meaningful to say. Much of that knack had to do with guitarist Adam Jones’ winning combination of heavy riffs, technical brilliance and artsy, experimental passages. With Jones’ unorthodox technique and disciplined aggressive attack, Tool proved that underground Metal could be intellectual, emotional, vicious and very commercially popular.
7. Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society)
With a musical backstory that includes playing lead guitar for Ozzy and fronting his own Heavy Metal group Black Label Society, Wylde is certainly one of the most distinguished Metal guitarists in the world. When Zakk served as Ozzy's axeman, each song became a guitar showcase. Blues-inspired hooks, sky-scraping solos and snarling riffing became something of Wylde’s crowd-pleasing stage shows, and his golden guitar still shines bright in Black Label Society.
6. Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen)
Guitar icon Eddie Van Halen altered what it means to play electric guitar with Van Halen’s 1978 self-titled debut, creating a dazzlingly, lightning-fast technique with meticulous tapping, hammer-ons, pull-offs and wild-sounding effects. It was madly dramatic, and coupled with theatrical singer David Lee Roth, the style brought Metal to a new level of performance art. Flying solo, Eddie also backed other artists’ records, everyone from Michael Jackson (on “Beat It”) to Roger Waters (“Lost Boys Calling”). With Van Halen’s new album reportedly almost finished, Van Halen interest is at a peak, and Eddie, once again, is stealing the spotlight.
5. Dimebag Darrell (Pantera, Damageplan)
The most popular Metal band of the first part of the ’90s, Pantera cut through ’80s hair Metal to establish their own unmistakable style. That signature sound largely came from guitarist Dimebag Darrell, whose rhythmic attack and hard-hitting sledgehammer tactics proved Metal guitar could shred wildly, but still groove. Tragedy struck on December 8, 2004, when Darrell, then 38, was shot and killed by a concertgoer during a club show in Columbus, Ohio. He’ll always be remembered as one of the most significant engineers of modern Metal.
4. John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
When Dream Theater’s rank rose in the early ’90s, six (at times, seven)-stringer John Petrucci was straight away recognized as one of the most technically proficient guitarists in all of contemporary Heavy Metal. Even as the band makeup has changed, Petrucci’s hard work and constant drive have helped take Dream Theater to new heights with their instruments, delivering imaginative, razor-sharp progressive Metal music.
3. Randy Rhoads (Ozzy Osbourne)
With Randy Rhoads on lead guitar, Ozzy Osbourne's debut solo release, 1980’s 'Blizzard of Ozz', had no chance to fail. The record was one of Heavy Metal’s supreme releases, very much thanks to Rhoads’ blistering playing. While other guitarists of the era emulated Eddie Van Halen, Rhoads stepped out on his own, incorporating classical music into his passages. His untimely death in a freak airplane accident in 1982 remains one of Metal’s biggest heartbreaks.
2. Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield (Metallica)
Metallica is the definitive Metal band, and guitar man Kirk Hammett certainly helped secure that tag, shaping the band’s sound on 1984’s wildly popular 'Ride the Lightning' and 1986’s groundbreaking 'Master of Puppets'. As the years went on, Hammett’s playing evolved and shifted from primarily Metal to a soul-filled, near-blues style, locked in with James Hetfield’s Metal riffs and shout-y vocals. Hammett’s thoughtful lead guitar style perfectly complimented Hetfield’s thick chords and serious lyrics, and that’s one reason why this duo is still a powerhouse today.
1. Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath)
Tony Iommi’s dark, distinct guitar textures in Black Sabbath helped spearhead the heavy metal movement and its signature massive riffing. “Iron Man,” “Black Sabbath” and “Paranoid” boast some of the most memorable riffs of all time, with lumbering heavy metal and crushingly heavy choruses. Iommi’s playing is certainly immortalized through the generations of heavy metal bands that have followed.
