Last summer, we had the chance to speak with Suffocation's own Mike Smith (drummer) about the future of the band. During the interview he told us that Suffocation was taking their time before releasing a NEW album, since they felt that it was time for them to step back and find the proper opportunities in order for their career to reach a whole new level. At the time he also said that they will be releasing a new DVD titled "Legacy of Violence" soon.
Well, we have good news! The extreme Metallers have announced that are hard at work on their seventh studio album, which is slated for a summer release via Nuclear Blast Records. Here is what bassist Derek Boyer had to say about this in the February issue of Decibel Magazine:
"We're in the pre-production stage [and are] currently working on final arrangements, lyrical placement and content. "Each album is an evolution process. As always, we take the key elements that are Suffocation, add current feelings and outside influences, then begin collaborating. We're very happy with the direction we're headed!"
Suffocation's Discography:

Long Island's "Crazy Donkey" Shuts its Doors for Good!
It saddens us to inform you that the legendary Farmingdale, Long Island venue the "Crazy Donkey" has been shutdown due to lack of business. Here is a statement from Rick Eberle, spokesman for the Crazy Donkey.
“Times are tough and they had to close the doors. Certain shows sometimes do well and sometimes don’t do well. It’s a complicated business plan, there was more stuff going on at the Donkey besides the Rock shows. There were dance nights and that sort of thing, so I guess everyone is a little bit to blame for not enough profit coming in to warrant them keeping the doors open.”
Five shows booked at the Crazy Donkey next month and beyond are canceled. RIP to "The Crazy Donkey"! Here is the last show we covered, it includes an interview we did after the show with Suffocation's own Mike Smith!

Suffocation Update for their Fans at Hometown Show
Last Sunday (June 26) Technical Death Metal masters Suffocation took over center stage at the Crazy Donkey, in Farmingdale, New York, and delivered a ferocious set to their hometown audience. From the moment they stepped on stage they unleashed a sonic assault that resulted in a lot of face melting within the crowd. The band took the audience through a chaotic roller-coaster which encompassed material from each of their six studio albums. The band was also celebrating guitarists Derek Boyers' birthday, so the crowd sang Happy Birthday to him at full volume. After 20+ years in the business, Suffocation is taking time to see if the music industry will help the band take their career to a whole new level so that they can release some new music and go on bigger scale tours. We talked with drummer Mike Smith (interview below) and he confirmed to us that they will finally be releasing a new DVD titled "Legacy of Violence" soon, but that the exact release date can't be confirmed yet, since it depends on the support that they get from the industry. After doing some soul searching, the band realized that putting in so much time and effort for such little results, is not fair to them. Here is what Smith had to say about this:

"The fans and the bands in this music know the score. They know what's happening. It's just the industry still doesn't know that extreme and that side of living is relevant, and worth money. But they'll get it."
Suffocation's ultimate goal is to enter the studio to record their seventh studio album once the DVD picks up momentum, and to go on a bigger scale tour. Rest assured that the band is not going anywhere, but its hard times in the music industry so they have to be smart of how they operate.
Here is the exclusive interview we did with Suffocation's drummer Mike Smith after their hometown show at the Crazy Donkey:
