OVERKILL Releases Statement Regarding The Health Status Of Bobby "Blitz' Ellsworth

As previously reported, "The Dark Roots Of Thrash Tour" was dented last night in Huntington, New York. Unfortunately, OVERKILL were forced to cancel their appearance last night at The Paramount Theater in Huntington, Long Island, NY because their singer Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth was rushed to the hospital after falling ill with walking pneumonia. The bands has just released the following update:

"We are terribly sorry that we had to cancel our performance last night, but let's put the rumors to rest, before speculation runs rampant.

"Blitz was diagnosed with what is called "walking pneumonia", and was medically advised to not perform due to it potentially getting worse if he did. When the health risk is no longer an issue, he'll be ready to kick ass once again."

So it is safe to assume that OVERKILL will not be performing on "The Dark Roots Of Thrash Tour" until further notice.

OVERKILL bassist DD Vernie commented: "We live just on the other side of the bridge, we will make up the show".

The epic tour, which features TESTAMENT, OVERKILL, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, and 4ARM, marks the first time that TESTAMENT and OVERKILL share the stage in over 25 years.

We wish Bobby a speedy recovery! Please keep flexing your muscles like on the picture above for many years to come!

TESTAMENT, OVERKILL, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, 4ARM (remaining tour dates):
2/16: The Palladium – Worcester, MA
2/17: Town Ballroom – Buffalo, NY
2/18: Phoenix Concert Theatre – Toronto, ON
2/20: Bogart’s – Cincinnati, OH
2/21: The Intersection – Grand Rapids, MI

2/23: First Avenue – Minneapolis, MN
2/25: The Summit Music Hall – Denver, CO
2/26: In The Venue – Salt Lake City, UT

OVERKILL: Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth Forced To Miss Huntington, NY Show Allegedly Due To Pneumonia!

Last night, "The Dark Roots Of Thrash Tour" arrived to Huntington, New York. The epic tour, which features TESTAMENT, OVERKILL, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, and 4ARM, marks the first time that TESTAMENT and OVERKILL share the stage in over 25 years. Unfortunately, OVERKILL were forced to cancel their appearance last night at The Paramount Theater in Huntington, Long Island, NY because their singer Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth was allegedly rushed to the hospital after falling ill with pneumonia. OVERKILL bassist DD Vernie commented: "We live just on the other side of the bridge, we will make up the show".

What is very surprising to us is that we interviewed Bobby 24 hours before the tour arrived in Long Island, and he seemed to be completely healthy. As a matter of fact, he seemed to be in very high spirits and was on fire while on stage at the Best Buy Theater in New York City. Can someone fall ill with pneumonia in less than 24 hours? We think not.

Whatever the situation is, we will keep you posted as more information becomes available. We wish Bobby a speedy recovery, regardless!

TESTAMENT, OVERKILL, FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, 4ARM (remaining tour dates):

“This artwork is a perfect portrayal of our music,” commented bassist Derek Boyer. “The cover depicts lyrical content like ‘scales tip in degradation’ and ‘hooded messenger of death is now set forth, punishment for all.’ Raymond is an absolute BEAST of an artist!”

Added guitarist Guy Marchais:

“The artwork for Pinnacle brings another element to an already brutal album.  Raymond knew exactly what we were looking for and delivered!”

FRANKENSANDY Demolishes The East Coast Of The United States - Impacting Images Available!

Yesterday and part of today, the East Coast of the United States was struck by what we have dubbed as "FrankenSandy" (thanks Zulie Alvarez). While many places suffered the consequences of mother nature, the New York City metropolitan area was devoured by the strong winds and the massive amount of water those winds pushed into many parts of town. President Barack Obama has declared a federal emergency in New York City, Long Island and New Jersey.

Here are some pictures we have gathered to show you the impact of the strongest hurricane in the last 100 years. We want to thank Zulie Alvarez, Jimmy Duff, Gaston Maiden, Marlo Savino and Heathen Brooklyn for this great pictures!

Please keep all the victims of this massive natural disaster in your thoughts and prayers! \m/

SUFFOCATION Releases Statement Regarding The Future Of Vocalist Frank Mullen In The Band!

Frank Mullen, front man for New York Death Metal veterans SUFFOCATION, recently gave an interview to Horns Up Rocks that spread very quickly about him no longer performing with the band full time (HERE is the full article). SUFFOCATION, including Frank Mullen, have issued the following statements about the interview.

“I am not leaving SUFFOCATION,” commented Mullen. “Massive one month long touring on my side cannot be done anymore though. When the new album is released next year I will be touring as much as possible to support the album as well as the following year in 2014.

"When I was asked that question in the interview (see below) I was taken off guard and didn’t really know what my schedule was going to look like next year and wanted to try and answer. I haven’t given much thought to what our touring schedule would look like since we’ve been in the studio recording the new release. So I’m going to be getting out there as much as I can to support the album and get out there in front of the ones who have supported Suffocation over the years, the true fans. So we are going to be supporting this record as soon as it comes out”

The rest of the band adds:

“We have respected this decision that Frank has made, but by no means does this mean SUFFOCATION will ‘replace’ him with new singer or stop touring. Death metal has been good to us, and we feel fortunate with the success we have achieved. For shows or tours he can’t be a part of there will be a well respected, talented, fill in singer, so we as a band can continue to prosper and bring SUFFOCATION to the fans. Bill Robinson (DECREPIT BIRTH) is a good friend of ours and came through during the European tours when Frank was unable to make the shows, but he was just filling in those two times. The fill-in singer will be announced soon, and we promise that our fans will not be let down. We have been fortunate to make a great living playing music, and are willing to continue to give our fans what they want.”

SUFFOCATION are currently in the finishing stages of their upcoming new album entitled 'Pinnacle of Bedlam'. The record was produced by the band and tracked at Full Force Studios in New York by longtime collaborator Joe Cincotta. The mixing and mastering of the album is set to be handled this time around by world renowned producer/engineer Zeuss (HATEBREED, ARSIS, SUICIDE SILENCE). SUFFOCATION Reacts To Our Interview With Frank Mullen Regarding His Future In The Band!

Earlier today, we posted a video interview that we recently conducted with SUFFOCATION's Frank Mullen (the bands front man and vocalist), in which he announced that he will not be touring full time with the band upon the release of their NEW album 'The Pinnacle of Bedlam' (set to be released in February/March of 2013 via Nuclear Blast Records) due to his current commitment with his full time job (HERE is the full article). You can watch the interview below, but here is what Mullen stated during our exclusive interview:

“I can’t really tour full time anymore. So when the album comes out, they’ll probably set up about a month-[long] tour, or something like that, in the States. I’ll only do about two weeks of it. There’ll be a fill-in singer [doing the rest of the shows]. And then I’ll probably do maybe a week, or a week and a half, over in Europe, and then any other touring they do for the rest of the year, will probably have somebody else filling in [on vocals]. I mean, I’ll do, like, spot shows here and there. But unfortunately, as you get older, death metal doesn’t make tons of money, and I’ve got a good job, so… you know, you’ve gotta work. And that’s pretty much what it is. I’m not a kid no more.

“At this point, you’ve gotta start thinking ahead in your life, you’ve gotta start thinking long-term goals and stuff. And unfortunately, death metal, again, it’s not the type of music where you’re gonna make millions and where you can make a really good living on it. I mean, you can have fun with it, and some bands could have a steady life on it, but for the most part, you do it more or less for the fact that that’s what you love — you love death metal and that’s what you play. It’s more or less that than trying to make a living.”

This piece of news, was quickly spread all over the Internet and it obviously reached the SUFFOCATION camp. This is what they had to say regarding this matter:

"Frank, along with the band will be making a statement this week, but this interview was blown way out of proportion and was not meant how it may have sounded or came off. More details to come, and everything will be clarified."

SUFFOCATION: Frank Mullen's Future In The Band, Hall Of Fame Induction & NEW Album Update!

Death Metallers Suffocation were inducted into the Long Island Hall Of Fame this past Thursday, October 18th! This makes them the most extreme band to ever be inducted into such a legendary place. The Long Island Hall Of Fame ceremony took place at the Paramount Theater in Long Island, and it honored Long Island's rich musical history.

This past Sunday, October 21, a historic event took place in celebration of the bands amazing accomplishment at Club Revolution in Amityville, New York. Joining SUFFOCATION's celebratory concert were Black Anvil, Killjoy, Ground War, Tomorrows Victim, Thracian and Eviseration.

Prior to the bands crushing performance, we chatted with Frank Mullen (the bands front man and vocalist), and he shocked us with the news that he will not be touring full time with the band upon the release of their NEW album 'The Pinnacle of Bedlam' (set to be released in February/March of 2013 via Nuclear Blast Records) due to his current commitment with his full time job. This obviously sucks, but remember that SUFFOCATION already did some touring without Mullen earlier this year, who was replaced by Decrepit Birth’s Bill Robinson.

Additionally, Mullen discussed the band induction into the Long Island Hall Of Fame and how the music scene has changed in the last 25+years. Without further due, here is out exclusive interview with Frank Mullen from SUFFOCATION!

“The recording process of our NEW album, 'Pinnacle of Bedlam', began Monday, August 13th. We brought in our gear, mic'd up the drum kit, imported tempo maps from our pre-production sessions, then dove right in! The drum tracking came out amazing! Dave Culross killed it! Once I laid down the bass tracks, the foundation of the album was built and was very solid and ready for Terrance and Guy to begin recording guitars, which they have. Thereafter, Frank began working on his vocals. The recording process is just about wrapped up, we just have some tweaking to do before we send it off to get mixed and mastered.”

"The meaning of the album title 'Pinnacle of Bedlam' is the tipping point or most elevated moment as we approach the chaotic climax of this existence,” added guitarist Terrance Hobbs. “The cosmic scale teeters and the fate of humanity hangs in the balance. People should expect nothing less than sheer brutality, as we perform together with this incredible line up! We feel this CD will be the best SUFFOCATION album ever to have been released and are confident the fans will love it."

Former SUFFOCATION Drummer Mike Smith Talks About His Decision Of Quitting The Band!

Last month, it was announced that SUFFOCATION was parting ways with Mike Smith, who is not only one of the founding members of the band, but also their legendary drummer. Ever since then, the Heavy Music world has been wondering what happened. Thankfully, Noel Smart of Sick Drummer Magazine.com sat down with Mike Smith and asked him about his decision of leaving SUFFOCATION. Here are some excerpts of the chat.

SickDrummerMagazine.com: Why did you decide to step down from the drum throne of SUFFOCATION?

Mike: The decision was pretty much inevitable. When we first reunited, the economy was in a much different place, and I was able to make SUFFOCATION my full-time job. Over the last few years, the ability to tour and support a house, family and all it entails became a strain on myself and my family. Once you reach a certain point financially, decisions have to be made before falling to a point of no return.

SickDrummerMagazine.com: Are you happy with your replacement in SUFFOCATION being Dave Culross?

Mike: My position in SUFFOCATION isn't as simple as mounting a drum throne. The position I held within the band as president, founder, manager, songwriter, spokesperson, and all else pertaining to the working business of the band can never be replaced. Anyone drumming for the group now is just enjoying a moment in time, on me.

SickDrummerMagazine.com: Do you think the new drummer of SUFFOCATION is going to have a difficult time getting down the material from "Souls To Deny", "Blood Oath" and the SUFFOCATION self-titled release?

Mike: The NEW drummer won't have a hard time, because the hired guitarists can't play the songs, so he will have nothing to worry about. Whatever songs are played will be the same ones we've been playing for the last 1000 shows or so. Forcing the crew to learn and practice all the SUFFO songs was a battle that later became not worth fighting for. You're only as strong as the weak links in a band.

SickDrummerMagazine.com: Is there any bad blood between you and any of the members of SUFFOCATION?

Mike: There are only two members that I need to consider grudges with concerning SUFFOCATION. I only direct my concerns with founding stake-holding members. The respect that the brand gained and deserves was always a sour issue. In my opinion, it was always a simple concept to respect and protect the brand/band you created. No exceptions. Anyone who knows the dynamics of the band and the individual members already have a realistic understanding of why things could turn for the worst at any moment.

SUFFOCATION Parts Ways With Drummer Mike Smith - Permanent Replacement Announced!

Death Metal legends SUFFOCATION, have announced that they have parted ways with drummer Mike Smith. Smith was one of the original members of the band! Here is what the remaining members of SUFFOCATION had to say about the departure of their drummer:

"We want to keep this respectful, so without going into much detail, Mike and the rest of us had serious differences of opinions. Mike did formally resign from the band, and he has since been replaced with Dave Culross (Malevolent Creation) who had played and recorded on 'Despite the Sun.'

"For all the people who think the band is splitting up, it's NOT, except for the one change we already mentioned above. As far as our next move, the NEW CD is in the pre-production stage and it kills! We would say some of the best material to date. The band right now as a whole can't wait to get this out to our fans."

This is what Mike Smith had to say about parting ways with SUFFOCATION:

"There are not many things related to the SUFFOCATION brand I can honestly say brings me sadness. Except, the lack of pride that exists within those who have the "right" to claim the name as their own.

"This battle has been one that to any focused being, should make obvious sense but has evaded some for 2 decades. Within any foundation the weakest link will always cause all structure to crumble.

"The one fact that keeps me at peace is the fact that anyone who has ever seen or spoken to me regarding SUFFOCATION and the industry as a whole, has always left with an understanding of the level of focus and pride that I personally hold for myself, the brand that is SUFFOCATION and the genre we influence and helped create.

"As I've always said, if you are willing to put your time and soul towards anything at all as I've done within the Metal community.

"Be willing to speak truths, fight and bleed for it if need be. Or take your earned position in the back and wait while others do it for you."

We wish Smith the best of luck, and we'd like to welcome Dave Culross to SUFFOCATION! Stay tuned for more information regarding the NEW SUFFOCATION album, which is due this fall via Nuclear Blast Records!
