Philip H. Anselmo Premieres NEW Song Out Of Upcoming Solo Record!

Philip Anselmo, the kid from PANTERA, DOWN, SUPERJOINT RITUAL, etc, has announced that his first ever solo album will be furiously unleashed on July 16 via his own Housecore Records (MRI/Megaforce). Entitled 'Walk Through Exits Only', Anselmo's NEW sonic assault will be available digitally, on CD and on vinyl. Here is a taste of what you can expect to hear. This song is called "Usurper's Bastard Rant" and it has a similar vibe to Anselmo's SUPERJOINT RITUAL. Check it out at the following link:

The album was produced by Anselmo along with Michael Thompson, and recorded at Philip's NOLA studio: Nodferatu's Lair. Anselmo's band THE ILLEGALS — guitarist Marzi Montazeri (ex-SUPERJOINT RITUAL) and drummer José Manuel Gonzales (WARBEAST) — were a big part of the musical journey that listeners will experience on 'Walk Through Exits Only'. The album's eight songs are as unstrained as it gets, from "Battalion Of Zero" to "Usurper's Bastard Rant", to the album's title track that goes against the grain and right through the exits. Brash, brutal guitars cut through punishing percussion as Anselmo screams with uncompromising ferocity and uncontainable fire.

"It wasn't about doing a paint-by-numbers Thrash or Heavy Metal record", Anselmo commented. "It's an angry album that only I could do. I don't see anybody else out there screaming about the same shit I'm screaming about. On this album, there isn't any wordplay, there isn't any hidden message, it's all right there in front of you."

Philip Anselmo Talks About His Battles With Drug Addiction & Wants "Nothing In Return"

During a recent interview with The Examiner, Philip Anselmo discussed the song "Nothing In Return" by his band DOWN and his battles with drug addiction:

"I was coming off some really tough years in my life. I went through the death of my guitar player, I went through Hurricane Katrina, and then I guess one of the biggest personal wars, besides Dimebag dying, was drug addiction. And chronic pain. Which really goes hand in hand, if you know anybody that suffers from chronic pain and whatnot. At that point, I had come clean, and now it's 2013 and it's been eight years for me off hard drugs, so that's a great feeling. But "Nothing In Return" is about, basically, what you give, you're gonna give back. And I have been the motherfucker on stage, out-of-my-mind drunk, on drugs, broken up inside, injured, feeling very vulnerable, and for me that's an uncomfortable feeling. And I've said things over the microphone to thousands of people that I had no business fucking saying. Badmouthing other bands, badmouthing this, that, the other thing. And just coming off as a negative person, which I'm not at all. I'm very much a positive person, so when I came clean, I recognized all this, and there were some friends of mine that were still struggling at the time, and I kept really begging them, "Take the step. All you have to do is trust me, listen to me, we'll get you off drugs, and all the bad anxiety that comes with it, the sickness that comes with detoxing and all that shit, it goes away. You can have your fucking life back, man, y'know?" Basically, that's my message right there. You can have your fucking life back. Unfortunately, you can talk a blue streak, and talk is cheap when it comes to… once you've conquered something and you're trying to tell someone else about it, they're going through the tough time, it's like talking to the brick wall. They're not hearing you, really. And such is the case a lot of times, and really that's what the song's about. Failing, kinda. In my mission to straighten some people up. Because you can't win every time. You can't win every time."

Philip Anselmo & Corey Mitchell Announce First Ever Housecore Horror Film & Metal Festival in Austin!

In what can only be described as a match made in hell, the worlds of Heavy Metal and horror collide this fall as the first-ever Housecore Horror Film Festival (HHFF) erupts in Austin, Texas. World famous Heavy Metal pioneer Philip H. Anselmo (Pantera, Down, Superjoint Ritual, et al.) and internationally renowned, best-selling true crime author Corey Mitchell (Hollywood Death Scenes, Dead and Buried, et al.) have teamed up to create the ultimate underground, three-day horror and Heavy Metal fan event that will combine live concerts from some of the biggest bands in Metal and Hard Rock with more than 70 screenings of horror, true crime, and Heavy Metal films, music videos, and more—and special guest appearances from three of the world’s most revered underground directors of horror.

The Housecore Horror Film Festival will take over the entire Emo’s complex in the newly revitalized area of East Austin for three days of shock and roll. HHFF will feature seven screens, which will display more than 70 horror, true crime, and heavy metal film screenings, including feature-length films, short films, documentaries, classic horror films, world premieres, music videos, vintage and faux movie trailers, and more. As darkness descends each night, a dozen Heavy Metal and Hard Rock acts, handpicked by Anselmo himself, will hit the stage.

The nefarious brainchild of Anselmo and Mitchell, the Housecore Horror Film Festival spawned from a mutual love for all things horror that was discovered while the two were collaborating on Anselmo’s upcoming autobiography (Simon & Schuster, 2014). Wanting to bring their passion for —and knowledge of—extreme music and horror films to legions of fans, HHFF was born, with the goal of showcasing the best in a wide range of horror films—from the obscure to the extreme, from quality mainstream to the most unrepentant gore—and the heavy music that goes hand-in-hand with it.

Two confirmed special guest film directors include the notoriously controversial Jörg Buttgereit (Nekromantik, Nekromantik 2, Schramm) and revered do-it-yourself guerilla filmmaker Jim VanBebber (The Manson Family, Deadbeat at Dawn). Additional guest film directors will be announced as the festival nears.

Several top tier Metal and Hard Rock bands have signed on to perform at the inaugural event, and HHFF today announces the first round of confirmed artists: Anselmo’s own Southern metal supergroup, Down, which also features former Corrosion of Conformity guitarist and lead singer, Pepper Keenan, Crowbar guitarist and lead singer, Kirk Windstein, Eyehategod and Superjoint Ritual guitarist Jimmy Bower on drums, and Crowbar bassist, Patrick Bruders; New Orleans masters of metallic doom, Crowbar; and the Texas premiere of Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals, Anselmo’s greatly anticipated extreme Metal solo project.

Horror film director and rock star Rob Zombie said of Philip Anselmo and the Housecore Horror Film Festival: “Philip’s done lots of great things for heavy metal. I believe the Housecore Horror Film Festival will be great for horror!”

WARBEAST Announce NEW Album & Lineup Changes - Official Statement Available!

Texas Thrash heavyweights WARBEAST are pleased to reveal the upcoming release date for their upcoming full length album, Destroy. The NEW album, produced by Philip H. Anselmo and engineered by Stephen "The Big Fella" Berrigan, will hit stores and digital retailers on April 2, 2013 via Housecore Records. 'Destroy' was recorded at Nodferatu's Lair in May and July 2012 and mixed by Anselmo and Berrigan. The album artwork and concept were designed by “Carcass” John Fossum with graphic and technical adviser John Deleon.

A CD release show for 'Destroy' will take place at The Rail Club in Fort Worth, TX on April 6, 2013. This is currently the first live date WARBEAST has planned for 2013 after the close of their current tour, “The Weed & Speed Tour: West Coast Throwdown in the Year of XIII”, with headliners Down. The tour ends today in Chattanooga, TN.

Additionally, the band has announced that their bassist Dre’ Karst is leaving the band:

"WARBEAST bassist Dre’ Karst will be leaving the band because he is unable to keep up with our busy touring schedule due to his work occupation. We are saddened that Dre’ has to leave the band. But we will be the first to acknowledge that Dre’ did an amazing job while he was in Warbeast. He only had 2 weeks to prepare to record our upcoming full-length album 'Destroy'. He also kicked ass at all of the shows and on the 3 tours with Down. So please everyone… join us in giving Dre’ his props for what he accomplished in his time in Warbeast. THANKS SO MUCH DRE’!!! We will miss ya bro… thanks for being part of our family.

"So obviously that means that Warbeast is now on the hunt for our next bass player. Please only serious musicians contact us about this. Obviously we need someone that can tour constantly and that has a schedule that will work with Warbeast. So for those interested please contact us on here… or you can send an email to brucecorbitt@yahoo.com"

Philip Anselmo Is Not Happy About The Super Bowl Coming To New Orleans, Find Out Why!

Last year, when Artisan News spoke with Philip Anselmo (PANTERA, DOWN) about his favorite NFL team the NOLA Saints, Anselmo said that because of bountygate and botched suspensions he's got no love for the NFL, comissioner Roger Goodell, and the Super Bowl in his city (scheduled to take place this Saturday, 2/3).

Here is what Anselmo had to say at the time:

As previously reported, Anselmo and Housecore Records thrashers WARBEAST have released a NEW split album entitled 'War of the Gargantuas'. The split, which is a total tease, includes two songs from each artist. This album serves as the first release of any solo work by Anselmo. Also, the two WARBEAST tracks on the split feature former bassist Alan Bovee before his amicable departure from the band. Since then, Dre Karst has joined on bass. Get it HERE!

Don't forget to catch Anselmo on tour with DOWN on “The Weed & Speed Tour: West Coast Throwdown in the Year of XIII”. The tour also features WARBEAST. The entire upcoming tour is dedicated to the memory of the late Mike Scaccia.

As with all of his projects, you've got to hear it to believe it.” – ArtistDirect.com, 5/5 Stars

PHILIP ANSELMO & WARBEAST Confirm Release Date For NEW Split Album ‘War of the Gargantuas’ (Anselmo’s First Solo Record)!

Legendary Pantera, Superjoint Ritual and DOWN vocalist PHILIP ANSELMO and Housecore Records thrashers WARBEAST recently announced that they will be releasing a NEW split album entitled 'War of the Gargantuas'. The split now has an official release date of January 8, 2012 and will include two songs from each artist. This album serves as the first release of any solo work by PHILIP ANSELMO during the span of his nearly 30-year legacy. Also, the two WARBEAST tracks on the split feature former bassist Alan Bovee before his amicable departure from the band. Since then, Dre Karst has joined on bass.

“This split is a glimpse into the future of both my solo project and ultimate Thrash Metallers WARBEAST. The title of the split is 'War of The Gargantuas' and it is fitting on many levels because of our combined love for the 60's Japanese film of the same name, the power of our combined musical output(s) and our humorous affection that plays out within each of our "Gargantuan" personalities,” states PHILIP ANSELMO. “Both WARBEAST and myself have full length LP's that will be released shortly after this is released, but this split is unique musically. It is a time capsule; a loud pause ‘til we both release our full length products. Enjoy the destruction of music!”

“These two songs we have on 'War of the Gargantuas' were the next level after Krush The Enemy,” states WARBEAST guitarist Scott Shelby. “They've been a staple in our set list for the last two years. These songs are a pure demonstration of our unique Texas thrash Metal style.”

WARBEAST also recently announced the upcoming release of their second full-length album, 'Destroy'. The album is scheduled to be released in early 2013 via Housecore Records and is currently in the mastering stages. Stay tuned for more information on Destroy coming very soon.

Set for release on September 18, 2012 through Housecore Records, the follow-up to 2010’s 'The Filth' was recorded at the University of New Orleans Performing Arts Center, Fountainbleau Room 7011, and Nodferatu’s Lair by Philip H. Anselmo, engineered by Steve Berrigan and Nathan Weidenhaft and mastered at Visceral Sounds by Scott Hull.

Said HeavyPlanet in an early review of the three-song beast: “Planting their feet as sludge Metal gods, haarp take their time trimming the fat and let the truth simmer. Between the sludge barrages and atmospheric back roads is tempered, expertly-timed black gold. The band's proficient but patient approach is lined with beautifully rich and vile vision. Husks isn't merely another NOLA sludge-Metal record; it's a sonic catapult for a band wholly deserving of every accolade they accrue. Take a walk through these rotting woods and sink with your sorrow. When the animals finally smell your stink, haarp will be waiting.” Adds Metal Underground: “This album is very balanced, as its some of the heaviest stuff ever made, but with those tones of airiness and ambiance that lift it up just enough…. Quite possibly haarp's best album.”

Due to unforeseen events which occurred late in the summer of 2005, members of various disbanded projects came together to forge haarp. Featuring a collective of New Orleans grindcore, punk, and metal scene alumni, haarp embody the murk, decay, and oppression associated with their home city. haarp’s music is a visceral wall of low-end sound; its lyrics a journey through despair, hatred, self loathing, and aggression. haarp will be decimating a city near you. Further details to be announced in the coming days.

EYEHATEGOD's Mike IX Williams: Philip Anselmo, NEW EHG Album, Touring Plans, Randy Blythe's Arrest & More!

EYEHATEGOD was founded in 1988 by Jimmy Bower and Joey Delatte, who were joined by Joe Fazzio and Kevin Bond from Crawlspace NoLa & Superjoint Ritual. Ever since their inception their have been various lineup changes, but regardless of whose in the band they have always been a driving force within the Heavy Music scene in NOLA. Their sludge Metal became a trademark within Heavy Music worldwide and their unique sound is incomparable. Eyehategod's music is the result of a group of friends getting together in a jam room and writing some simple, heavy and balls out music!

Louisiana’s favorite purveyors of Hardcore, blues-based, unrepentant, post-amplificated dirge, will head to Europe this week to further spread their audio message of discontent. The caravan of decadence and debauchery begins July 20 at Serengeti Festival 2012 in Stukenbrock, Germany and will pillage its way through 19 cities, leaving in its wake nothing but broken glass and hurt feelings.

We recently had the chance to chat with Mike IX Williams about the bands upcoming tour, their NEW album situation (including album title rumors), and why they got banned from Scion Rock Fest. Additionally, we talked to Williams about the arrest of LAMB OF GOD's Randy Blythe (who is a good friend of Williams). Listen up and spread the doom!
