Thrash Metallers MEGADETH have been locked up at Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California, recording the follow up to 2011's 'THIRT3EN' (available now via Roadrunner Records). The bands 14th studio album is being produced by Johnny K, and will be released sometime this year through a NEW label home since the band parted ways with Roadrunner Records. MEGADETH released three studio albums through Roadrunner: 2007's 'United Abominations', 2009's 'Engame' and the aforementioned 'TH1RT3EN'.
During NAMM, which concluded this past Sunday (January 27), MEGADETH's own Dave Mustaine chatted with Full Metal Jackie during the "Dean NAMM Webcast" about the NEW future of MEGADETH. Mustaine also presented some of his NEW guitars and he also signed some of them, watch the video below.
A few excerpts of the interview folllow: "We're actually in the studio right now working on a new record," Mustaine said during the chat. "We have a new label. We left Roadrunner; we completed our contract with them, which not a lot of many Metal bands have the luxury to have been able to complete contracts. They usually either break up or quit or give up and stuff like that, but we were honorable and finished our contract with them and we moved on. And we've actually got a fantastic relationship with a brand NEW label that we're gonna be telling everybody about real soon. We have eleven songs already recorded. We wanna give them thirteen, 'cause, you know, the B-sides and Japanese releases and all that kind of crazy stuff. So we're almost done with all of that stuff. I'm excited about the music." He continued: "[MEGADETH bassist] David Ellefson is one of those guys that's kind of the barometer of the band. You ask me, you never really know what you're gonna get, but when you ask David Ellefson, it's kind of like reading the ingredients on the back of something, 'cause he's such a straight shooter. He told some people the other day that this is music that's really similar to [MEGADETH's 1985 debut album] 'Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!', some of the stuff — really dark, really heavy and fast stuff. I mean, I don't think it's really as fast and heavy as 'Killing' is, to me, but Junior is a great, like I said, barometer — bad word, but he knows what's going on. "The relationship in the band right now, we're all getting along great; everybody is having a great time. Chris Broderick, what a great guitar player. Shawn Drover is playing his butt off, and Dave and I are getting along great right now. We're excited. "We're gonna be debuting the name of the record soon. We've been giving little clips of some of the music on our web site and on Dean's web site. "It's just a great time to be in MEGADETH."

But this is not just another charity, 'Six-String Masterpieces' is a charitable art exhibition featuring an impressive collection of Dean Electric Guitars that have been hand-painted, illustrated and sculpted by leading musicians and contemporary visual artists.
Artists who have donated their talents to paint guitars for this exhibit include Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, Kerry King of Slayer, Les Claypool of Primus, Bret Michaels, Scott Ian of Anthrax, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, Mark Dean Veca, Erik Foss, Jon Davis & Munky of KORN, Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, Shawn Barber, renowned tattoo artists Aaron Cain and Filip Leu, and many more.
In order to make this happen, Mesa Contemporary Arts has partnered with curator Curse Mackey and exhibit sponsor Dean Guitars to revive this very special exhibition, unveiling newly painted guitars alongside select works from the original show.
With over $200,000 raised thus far, 'Six-String Masterpieces' continues to evolve as an ongoing charitable exhibition that serves to raise awareness and support for music education and carries a message of anti-violence with its dedication to one of rock music's greatest and most beloved guitar players, Dimebag Darrell Abbott. All proceeds from Six-String Masterpieces benefit Little Kids Rock, one of America’s top music education charities.
'Six-String Masterpieces' debuted at the 2006 NAMM Convention in Anaheim, CA and toured throughout the U.S. in 2006 and 2007. The exhibit was a popular feature of the 2006 Ozzfest and Family Values Tours with several thousands concert goers per day lining up to see the guitars. It was featured on MTV's Headbangers Ball and was the subject of a special issue of Guitar Player Magazine dedicated entirely to this groundbreaking exhibit.
The original collection of 60 painted guitars was auctioned at an all-star benefit event at House of Blues Hollywood in May of 2007. The auction generated nearly $200,000 in support of Little Kids Rock, one of America's highest rated music education organizations.
The opening on Sept. 9th at Mesa Contemporary Arts will be the first time that the guitar painted by Ozzy Osbourne has ever been shown in the United States. It has previously only been seen at the Museo De La Ciudad De Mexico, one of the finest museums in Mexico City.
This is a rare opportunity to see some favorite names in music and art apply their talents to a completely different medium while raising money and awareness for the next generation of artists and musicians. Here are the details:

Sweden’s outspoken and influential Heavy Metal band, Arch Enemy, has joined forces with the worldwide human rights organization, Amnesty International, to help raise awareness of social injustices around the world. Amnesty International booths will be present at many of the upcoming dates on Arch Enemy’s headlining US tour, “North American Khaos 2011,” to hand out flyers and accept fans’ signatures in support of the cause. This is what Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy's front-woman) had to say about this.
“We have invited Amnesty International to join us on the ‘North American Khaos’ tour to help raise awareness for defending human rights, freedom of speech and saving lives. We are living in very extreme and turbulent times and it is important to take a stand. We hope one day everybody is allowed to freely say what they think, that no government has the right to punish and kill those who do not conform and that those who are oppressing the masses will be brought to justice. It will be a long and hard struggle, but it’s a goal worth fighting for. The metal scene is non-conformist, alternative and revolutionary – We know how to practice what others preach. The supporting bands on the tour have also joined in on the fight. Chthonic added, “Freedom to create is the fundamental to artist’s dignity as freedom of speech is the fundamental to human rights for all human beings. We should fight for those who are denied these privileges in other parts of the world so that they will be entitled to these rights one day.”
The "North American Khaos 2011" will kick off in Baltimore on September 8th and will conclude in Chicago on October 4th. Supporting Arch Enemy on the North American leg of the band’s World tour will be DevilDriver, Skeletonwitch and Chthonic.
Arch Enemy is touring in support of Khaos Legions, the band’s first collection of new material since 2007. The highly anticipated album sold around 6,000 copies in its first week, good for #78 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.
