MACHINE HEAD: "Eight years ago, we got turned down by 35 labels, and now every label on the planet wants to sign us."

Recently, PitCam.TV sat down with Robb Flynn from MACHINE HEAD! The interview took place at this year's edition of the With Full Force festival, which was held June 29 - July 1 at Flugplatz Roitzschjora in Löbnitz, Germany (near Leipzig). Here are a few excerpts of the interview.

Roadrunner Records' "restructuring" under parent label Warner Music Group, which resulted in roughly 36 staff members worldwide being let go and several regional offices being closed.

"It's a shame, man. It's a fucking shame. Considering that these are, like, the premier people in their field… I mean, when it comes to Metal, there was no one better. They were profitable, which almost no label in this day and age can say. The thing that was most bizarre was that Warner had all of their rock and metal bands going through Roadrunner [in Europe] 'cause [Warner] didn't know what to do. So it's kind of like, 'Why would you [close the Roadrunner offices in those territories]?' But they did it."

He continued, "We're still trying to see how it is; we're trying to get a feel for what's going on. We're in between labels right now — the last record was the [final one under our most recent contract with] Roadrunner, so we're actually in a pretty unique position, because we've got a lot of different choices that we can go with right now, and the world is, basically, our oyster. It's a rad position to be in. Eight years ago, we got turned down by 35 labels, and now every label on the planet wants to sign us. [laughs] So it's pretty awesome. So we're gonna play it out. Roadrunner's still got a lot of people that we know and love there — especially in America, they've got a real strong… the core people that are there are huge MACHINE HEAD supporters. We're gonna check it out and we may very well end up on Roadrunner. We just need to make sure that it's the right thing and that they get what we're doing, because we're not a pop band, we're not some mainstream artist. I mean, we're the biggest underground Metal band, I guess, there is."

In other MACHINE HEAD news, the Bay Area Metallers recently announced plans to film a video for the song 'Darkness Within' in the Czech Republic. The track comes off the band's latest album, "Unto The Locust", which sold more than 17,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 22 on The Billboard 200 chart — putting MACHINE HEAD in the Top 25 for the first time in the band's 17-year history.

MACHINE HEAD: Fan Draws A Killer Portrait Of Robb Flynn! #MetalArt

Our good friends from ROADRUNNER RECORDS posted today a kickass video from artist Sean Kealy (kealytronart on YouTube). The very talented artist has put up a clip of him drawing Machine Head's badass singer/guitarist Robb Flynn. The video compresses approximately four hours of drawing time into six minutes, and Kealy says a friend of his was running sound at Machine Head's Dublin concert, and showed the drawing to Robb, who signed it for him!

MACHINE HEAD Return To New York City With “The Eighth Plague” Tour - Badass Pictures Available!

Machine Head are currently destroying venues all over North American on their first headline tour in four years. Their promise of reducing venues to piles of rubble and dust during “The Eighth Plague” tour, has definitely been kept so far.

This past Friday (February 3), the band took over the Best Buy Theater in New York City. Joining the Bay Area Metallers were Suicide Silence and Darkest Hour. Going into this show we knew that this lineup would be the perfect recipe for a night of musical greatness! While all three bands possess very different musical styles, they all share the same philosophy: put on a great show in order to make sure that everyone gets their money's worth.

D.C.'s Darkest Hour kicked off the “The Eighth Plague” New York City show at around 7:30 and took advantage of every minute they had to rock the hell out of the hundreds of headbangers. While their set was short and sweet, they definitely shook the entire floor up and got things warmed up Machine Head and Suicide Silence.

Then it was time for Suicide Silence to stomp on stage and devour ear drums. If there is a band that deserved to open for Machine Head this time around, that band is Suicide Silence. The Californian extreme Metallers never go on stage unprepared, because they understand how competitive the music market is today. Their live show is one to be reckon with and we predict many more years of musical madness for these young bucks.

Around 9:30, the mighty MACHINE HEAD returned to New York City after many years of not stepping on stage in the city that never stops rocking! Talk about a comeback show. Machine Head's Phil Demmel Discusses NEW DVD & Announces Engagement!

As we all know, Machine Head's Phil Demmel is not only one of the most talented shredders in Heavy Music today, but he is also one of the nicest guys in the music business. Recently, Artisan News caught up with Demmel at the Dimebash event at the Key Club in Hollywood, California. During the interview, Demmel spoke about the production of the band's long-awaited DVD featuring footage from the extensive tour in support of 2007's critically acclaimed album "The Blackening".

"We toured on 'The Blackening' for three years, [played] almost four hundred shows, [and] we have footage from everything," commented Demmel. "So much happened on that tour — our drummer's mom died, my dad died… So much happened to us. We almost broke up, we went to therapy… All this different shit happened. So we're trying to put all of this together. It's just too much [to include in a single DVD package]. So we wanna whittle it down and create a cool story."

In other news, Phil Demmel recently announced that he is engaged to Bleeding Through's keyboardist Marta Peterson. Demmel and Peterson started dating when their bands toured together in Australia and Japan in early 2010. Peterson was twice named "Hottest Chick" in Metal by Revolver magazine.

"I met the girl of my dreams in Australia the last time we were down there. One of the greatest things that has ever happened to me was on that run. I have very special memories of Australia and knowing that I was in love for the first time when I was in Brisbane." - Phil Demmel

Phil has a five-year-old son, Jadon Philip Demmel, with "rock model" Jamie Jagger.

Twenty Albums That Made 2011 Heavy, Exciting & Dangerous!

One of the most arduous tasks that we have to put up with year after year, is selecting our "best of" lists. When the calendar hits the month of December, we usually have a good idea of which albums should be on our "best of" lists. However, instead of applying the typical method that most outlets out there use, which is usually based on their first impressions. We went back and listened to over 50 albums that were released in 2011, and reanalyzed our tentative list very carefully. This took a lot of our time, but we wanted to compile what we believe are twenty albums that made 2011 heavy, exciting, and very dangerous. Here you go!

20) Lies Beneath - "Death Of The American Dream"

19) Chimaira - "The Age Of Hell"

18) Kittie - "I've Failed You"

17) Charred Walls Of The Damned - "Cold Winds On Timeless Days"

16) Generation Kill - "Red, White and Blood

15) Unearth - "Darkness In The Light"

14) Ikillya - "Recon"

13) No Remission - "Through Blackened Skies"

12) The Black Dahilia Murder - "Ritual"

11) DevilDriver - "Beast"

10) Revocation - "Chaos Of Forms"

9) Jasta - "Jasta"

8) Crowbar - "Sever The Wicked Hand"

7) A Pale Horse Named Death - "And Hell Will Follow With Me"

6) Cavalera Conspiracy - "Blunt Force Trauma"

5) Arch Enemy - "Khaos Legions"

4) Vildhjarta - "masstaden"

3) Amon Amarth - "Surtur Rising"

'Unto the Locust' - Highest Debut in Machine Head's History on Billboard Top 200!

On Tuesday, September 27, 2011, Machine Head released their seventh studio album entitled "Unto The Locust" via Roadrunner Records. After the success of "The Blackening", Machine Head decided that they were going to close the door on that album, and create something fresh sounding. This is exactly what the band accomplished! Once again Machine has proven their elite status amongst today’s massive array of Heavy Metal artists.

More than doubling on the #54 Billboard Top 200 debut chart position of the band’s 2007 Grammy-nominated release, "The Blackening", Machine Head have topped themselves again with a remarkable #22 Billboard Top 200 chart debut for their new album, "Unto The Locust", with over 17,000 albums scanned.

The new Machine Head album debuts at #4 on the Hard Music chart and the Current Hard Music chart, as well as the top internet chart at #26. The album came in at #19 on the overall digital albums chart with nearly 6,000 albums sold digitally, 35% of the overall scan. Even more impressive, this is the third consecutive album to show at least a 20% increase in sales over the previous release; a virtually unprecedented feat for any band or artist, let alone a Metal band in 2011. To date the band has sold a staggering 2.4 million albums worldwide.

"Unto The Locust" is seeing amazing charting numbers overseas as well. The album charted at #5 on the German charts, #6 on the Austrian charts, #10 in Australia and Switzerland, #13 on the French charts, #18 on the Japanese charts, #19 on the New Zealand charts, #22 on the Belgian charts, #28 in Norway, and #82 on the United Kingdom charts (the album release in the United Kingdom was via the Metal Hammer fan pack, which does not counted towards UK chart numbers. The #82 chart number solely represents digital sales).

We recently visited the Roadrunner Records headquarters in New York City and had the chance to interview Machine Head's front-man Robb Flynn about 'Unto The Locust'. We also talked to Flynn about the bands recent Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival experience. Check it out!

This Tuesday, September 27, 2011, Machine Head will be releasing their seventh studio album entitled "Unto The Locust" via Roadrunner Records. This is exactly what the band accomplished on their highly anticipated album.

Last night the citizens of New York City had the chance to listen to "Unto The Locust" before its global release. The event took place at "Paul Booth's Last Rites Tattoo Theatre" and was hosted by members of Machine Head.

After the listening party concluded, the debauchery continued at the legendary Heavy Metal Mecca Duff's Brooklyn where Robb Flynn picked up a guitar, jumped in front of a microphone, gripped on a drink, and started jamming out to Machine Head songs, as well as various covers.
