Jonah, the kid playing the drums below, is an 8 year old self-taught drummer. He's never had a lesson, and plays songs as he hears them, and how he thinks they should sound. He doesn't "play it like the record", he plays his way. He doesn't have to learn how to play a song; he just has to hear it. Jonah spends between 1 - 2 hours per week playing drums.
Jonah recently recorded a cover of Mötley Crüe's "Looks That Kill" and he killed it! Tommy Lee: eat your heart out, this kid might replace you soon. Hahahaha!

Today, Friday, May 10th, TOOL's legendary drummer Danny Carey is celebrating his 52nd birthday! Danny was bornin Lawrence, Kansas. His first encounter with the drums began at the age of ten by joining the school band and taking private lessons on the snare drum.Two years later, Carey began to practice on a drum set.
In his senior year of high school in Paola, Kansas, Carey joined the high school jazz band and began to study under drumming great Ben Kelso specifically for jazz drumming training. Jazz would later play a huge role in his signature approach to the drum set in a Rock setting. As Carey progressed through high school and later college at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, he began expanding his studies in percussion with theory into the principles of geometry, science, and metaphysics as well as delving into Sacred Geometry and certain hidden aspects of life and the occult. Carey also played jazz while attending college and got to experience the jazz scene in Kansas City.
After college, a friend and bandmate convinced Carey to leave Kansas for Portland, Oregon, where he played briefly in various bands before moving to Los Angeles, California, where he was able to perform as a studio drummer with Carole King and perform live sets with Pigmy Love Circus. He also played in Green Jellÿ as Danny Longlegs and recorded the album Cereal Killer. He would later find his way to TOOL after coming to know singer Maynard James Keenan and guitarist Adam Jones and practicing with them in place of drummers the two had requested but had never shown up. Besides TOOL, Carey also finds time for other projects new and old such as Pigmy Love Circus, VOLTO!, and ZAUM. As previously announced, TOOL are working on some NEW music. Up until know, in typical TOOL fashion the band have been very mysterious about the status of their fifth studio album and have only been communicating with the outside world via their webmaster.
The Rock FM (New Zealand radio station), recently conducted an interview with TOOL's drummer Danny Carey. During the interview Carey discussed the progress of the NEW TOOL album, the effect that their music has on millions of people worldwide and his involvement with Jason Bonham (son of John Bonham from LED ZEPELLIN) on the NEW Superman soundtrack. Today (February 16), SLAYER's badass drummer Dave Lombardo is celebrating his 47th birthday. Lombardo was born in La Havana, Cuba on February 16, 1965. When he was two years old, his family moved to South Gate, California. During the third grade at the age of eight, Lombardo brought a set of bongo drums with a Santana record to school for show and tell and played the bongos along with the record. This inspired his musical interest in drums, prompting him to join the school band where he played the marching drum, although he soon viewed the marching drum as "not for him." Lombardo's father saw his persistent interest in music at age ten and bought him a five-piece Maxwin drum set for $350. As Lombardo now had a drumkit, he purchased his first record, Alive! by Kiss to play along to. He taught himself the song "100,000 Years" by listening to the record repeatedly. Able to perform the drum solo on the song, word of Lombardo's ability spread. At the age of 16, Dave remembered his friends from a Huntington Park, California based band called, Sinister, telling him about a guitar player that lived a few blocks away. One afternoon, after making a delivery for the restaurant he worked for, Dave drove by the guitarist's house and saw Kerry King. Dave introduced himself, mentioned he played drums and that he heard of him being a guitar player. Lombardo asked King if he would like to jam with him. King agreed and then offered to show Lombardo his guitar collection later that night. The two realized they shared some of the same musical interests and they then rehearsed in Lombardo's garage several times. King then introduced Jeff Hanneman. The three rehearsed a few more times and decided they needed a singer and bass player. Kerry had played with Tom Araya in a band called Quits and decided to introduce Lombardo and Hanneman to Araya. Iconic Death Metallers MORBID ANGEL are currently part of a month long North American tour with Sweden's DARK FUNERAL, GRAVE and VADIM VON. The tour will conclude on October 19th in San Antonio, Texas and is NOT to be missed!
The band is touring in support of their latest album, 'Illud Divinum Insanus' which was released by Season of Mist last year. The very controversial album is MORBID ANGEL's eighth studio release and is the first album in 16 years to feature bassist/vocalist David Vincent.
Last Wednesday, September 26, MORBID ANGEL performed at B.B. King's in New York City and proved once again why they are one of the strongest live bands in the world. In typical MORBID ANGEL fashion, the band was nursing a brutal hangover after a day/night off in the "Big Apple", but this did not affect their performance whatsoever. After all, they all are professional drinkers!
Prior to the bands performance, we were able to chat with the bands skin master Tim Yeung. During the conversation, Yeung told us about the bands current tour in support of their latest album 'Illud Divinum Insanus' and how even he was surprised when he first heard the bands latest sonic arsenal. We also discussed drumming techniques and how he handles extensive recording sessions by using his favorite drumming weapons of choice. We also talked about his NEW Rock N' Roll driven band DEATH DIVISION and about the future of DIVINE HERESY. Crank the volume to 11 and listen up!

After the very recent release of their EP 'Perspective', it is with heavy hearts that vocalist Elliot Coleman and TESSERACT have parted ways. A statement from bassist Amos Williams can be seen below:
"Sadly, our good buddy Elliot has decided to leave team TesseracT.
"We'd like to thank Elliot for everything he has done for us. We have loved having him be a part of this beast. He introduced us to a completely different side of our sound, as well the delights of Pho! Things we will always be grateful for.
"So, as well as continuing to write and record album 2, we are also on the hunt for that special (shpecial) person to be the new full-time TesseracT vocalist."

Amos Williams (bass): "We decided to cover 'Dream Brother' (originally by Jeff Buckley) for an acoustic session in New York. Myself and Acle spent ages looking at different tracks. I think we entertained 'Tear Drop' by Massive Attack, 'Thin Air' by Anathema, and many more. But 'Dream Brother' just fits TESSERACT very well. Plus it is one of our collective favourite tracks. It's always a risk working with a track that you love, but we feel we did it justice. It's a great showcase for the musicianship in TESSERACT, and the deep emotive power that Elliot has added to the band since he joined."

Death Metal drummer extraordinaire, Pete Sandoval, recently announced that he is ready to play drums once again. Sandoval had to undergo surgery after suffering from a disc prolapse in 2010. Not being able to play painlessly for an extended period for up to a year, he was replaced by Tim Yeung for the recording and touring of Morbid Angel's 2011 album "Illud Divinum Insanus".
Sandoval commented, "I am back behind the drum kit! Lots of surprises for 2012, starting with the release of the new TERRORIZER album. Thanks so much, my friends!"
The big question is whither Sandoval will return to Death Metal masters Morbid Angel, who replaced Sandoval with Tim Yeung from Divine Heresy and World Under Blood. When asked if Yeung was a temporary replacement for Sandoval, Morbid Angel's bassist/vocalist David Vincent said: "Permanent is an interesting word. When we got Tim to do [the latest Morbid Angel album, 'Illud Divinum Insanus'] — everybody knows what the story is on that — it was to do the record and to do the subsequent touring for the record. So that's what I'm prepared to discuss this evening. Tim is a very capable drummer, a very talented fellow. He's a good friend, and I feel very pleased that his schedule worked out, as such, that he could do this, 'cause we're having a good time."
Whither Sandoval will return to the drum throne of Morbid Angel remains to be seen. For now his main focus is TERRORIZER, who is schedule to release their NEW album entitled "Hordes Of Zombies", on February 28, 2012 (in North America) via Season Of Mist.
