Norwegian legend, Darkthrone, have a NEW album entitled 'The Underground Resistances' set for release via Peaceville Records on February 26th. 'The Underground Resistance' is Darkthrone's latest venture through the Metal cosmos, and first NEW album since the 2010 opus 'Circle the Wagons'. All in all a ferocious and dynamic set of tracks drenched in Fenriz's and Nocturno's rich and diverse tastes in all things metal, primarily those rooted firmly in the spirit of the 80's. Six tracks long, and each one an epic in itself, this is undoubtedly Darkthrone's strongest outing of late.
Here is a little taste of what you can expect. This song is called "Leave No Cross Unturned": 'The Underground Resistance' was written and recorded spring 2010 to summer 2012 at Necrohell 2 studios by the band themselves. The album was mastered by Jack Control at Enormous Door in Texas. Cover artwork also comes courtesy of the iconic and celebrated artist Jim Fitzpatrick (see above). Commented Fenriz, "Three songs each, Ted's are flown from the universe of metal with his strongest voice ever so far. Songs of mine are torn from the wombs of the riders of rohan of Metal, safely cradled in 1985 style." Darkthrone began life in the late 80's as a Thrash/Death metal act and progressed through technical Death/Doom Metal experimentation to become a legend of the Black Metal world and one of the original leading bands of the Norwegian scene, as well as inspiring a whole generation of Metal bands. Influential Death Metal act, AUTOPSY, has revealed the release date for its upcoming DVD, 'Born Undead'. The extensive look into the blood and guts of one of Death Metal’s great pioneers will be released on August 28th in North America via Peaceville Records.
A trailer for the upcoming release can be seen here.
'Born Undead' charters the birth, death and rebirth of the legendary act, with an extensive documentary conducted with the band members themselves, as they describe how the beast came to be, and the impact their music has had on the Metal world over a span of more than 20 years.
The film also documents the band’s long-awaited return to the studio and stage, and includes rehearsals of both NEW tracks and old classics for AUTOPSY’s live comeback assault. The trio of 2010 reunion shows are all featured, with all the best classic tracks from Maryland Deathfest, PartySan festival and also Hole in the Sky in Norway, where Chris Reifert, Eric Cutler, and Danny Coralles were joined by Dan Lilker on bass.
With hours of footage, as well as extras including the band’s promo video for “All Tomorrow’s Funerals,” “My Corpse Shall Rise” and more, 'Born Undead' is the ultimate set for all Autopsy and Metal maniacs alike.
Kent Mattieu, who had collaborated with the band on its early classic (and often controversial) album covers, provided artwork for the release.
One of the early breed of US Death Metal acts, and most respected names in the genre, AUTOPSY formed in 1987 in San Francisco, and released four albums on Peaceville Records - beginning with the classic debut 'Severed Survival' in 1989 - before disbanding in 1995 with members going on to form Abscess.
AUTOPSY triumphantly and officially returned from the grave after a 15-year hiatus with the 2010 EP, ‘The Tomb Within,’ delighting critics and fans alike. The band then released its fifth full length, and first since 1995, 'Macabre Eternal', in 2011.
Stay tuned for more info on AUTOPSY and 'Born Undead'.

Katatonia, the Swedish purveyor of dark Rock/Metal, has announced that its ninth studio album, due August 28th on Peaceville Records, will be entitled 'Dead End Kings'. A continuation of 2009’s inspired and acclaimed, 'Night is the New Day', as well as a leap forward into the unknown, 'Dead End Kings' sees the quintet conjure yet another milestone in audial melancholy and angst.
“'Dead End Kings' is about the corridors of our mind from where there is no return,” commented vocalist, Jonas Renkse. “Be a king or queen in your own right in these hallways, even at the dead end. Carry your burden with pride. That's what we are doing, twenty years and counting. Kings, because we believe in what we are creating, in our own disturbing faith.”
Added guitarist, Anders Nyström, “This album has doors revolving into many different genres of music but remain disguised within the Katatonia trademark. We have walked the fine line between attempting not to repeat ourselves but also not to distance us away from what people know and love. We're now ready to hand over the evidence and whatever the direction this has taken is now for you to decide. We're confident the creativity and passion on this album is something that will be echoing even beyond the dead end.”
Amongst its most poignant and ambitious material to date, 'Dead End Kings' was recorded at Ghost Ward Studios and The City Of Glass. The album was produced by Anders Nyström and Jonas Renkse themselves, and mixed by David Castillo, known for his prior work with Katatonia, as well as Opeth and Bloodbath.
'Dead End Kings' sees the recording debut of guitarist, Per Eriksson, for Katatonia, as well as recent bassist, Niklas Sandin. Additionally, Katatonia is joined once again by Frank Default and his invaluable expertise on sampling and atmospherics, plus a special guest appearance by Norwegian vocalist, Silje Wergeland, of Dutch legends, The Gathering/ex-Octavia Sperati.
Long-time visual collaborator, Travis Smith, provided artwork for the upcoming release.
The (unofficial) 'Dead End Kings' track listing is:

Following the release of 'Evinta' earlier this year, in which the band marked 20 years of existence with a release of symphonic compositions re-imagining past My Dying Bride themes, the UK doom legend now presents its latest chapter in the form of a new EP, ‘The Barghest O’ Whitby, out now on Peaceville Records.
‘The Barghest O’ Whitby’ represents the epitome of poetic grace and funeral soundscapes from one of gothic doom’s most celebrated acts. With a masterful blend of pounding guitar riffs and sombre atmospheric passages, My Dying Bride embarks on a chilling journey through superstition and folklore. ‘The Barghest O’ Whitby’ was recorded at Futureworks Studios, Manchester with long-time production partner and engineer, Mags. The release is the first to feature violin/keyboardist Shaun Macgowan, and sees the return of Shaun “Winter“ Taylor Steels to the drum-stool for this recording. The cover artwork for ‘The Barghest O’ Whitby’ also appears courtesy of vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe.
The new My Dying Bride mini-site for ‘The Barghest O’ Whitby’ is now online at the link below. The site contains release information, audio samples, and more.

Swedish Heavy Metal band Katatonia is celebrating their 20th anniversary of musical existence this year. Katatonia was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1991 when Jonas Renkse (formerly aka Lord Seth) and Anders Nyström (formerly aka Blakkheim) joined musical forces. The bands anniversary celebration is currently taking place in North America in an extensive tour with fellow countrymen Opeth.
Sonically speaking, after carefully analyzing the rise of the Swedish Death Metal scene in the early 90s, Katatonia made the conscious decision of adding melodic elements to the Skandinavian signature sound in order to create something fresh and unique. Ever since their inception the band has been hard at work perfecting their musical craft both on and off stage. In order to keep their creative flow going strong, once they get back home from their current trek across North America, their plan is get busy with the production of their eighth studio album.
Recently, Katatonia and Opeth performed two sold out shows at the Webster Hall in New York City and before Katatonia took center stage we had the chance to sit down to chat with guitarist/co-founder Anders "Blakkheim" Nyström, who was joined by his co-guitarist Per "Sodomizer" Eriksson. During the conversation, we chatted about the bands rise to musical success, about life on the road, and much more. So sit back, relax and enjoy!
