Every year, Murphy's Law celebrates St. Patrick's Day at The Trash
Bar in Brooklyn, NY. This annual party is always a full blown party full
of good times, plenty of Jagermeister, good looking people and plenty
of party treats!
Unfortunately, this year the party turned sour when someone decided to threaten the safety of the crowd by claiming to have a gun. This is what the bands front man and New York Hardcore legend, Jimmy Gestapo, posted on his personal Facebook page regarding the incident:
"Sorry
for the drama at last nights show someone said they had a gun so we
stop playing period. When someone puts myself and my fans in danger by
continuing playing I find it disrespectful and had to deal with it
accordingly."
Jimmy and the band totally did the right thing by preventing a potential tragedy.

On Saturday May 7, 2011, history was made at The Dark Arts Music Festivus. While the day started with one of the bands dropping out from the show, we are true believers that everything happens for a reason and were not going to let a small dent take away our ultimate goal of making the event a complete success. We immediately made the decision to not bring another band in, because there simply wasn't enough time and we were very confident that the remaining bands could seamlessly take control of the show.
Upon arriving to The Trash Bar, we had a chance to enjoy a Newcastle Beer before the artistic storm arrived in Brooklyn. Once the artists arrived and started hanging up their amazing work, we immediately knew that it was going to be a very special night.
At 8 PM, we opened the doors and our founder Jo Schüftan kicked off the night by blasting some Ozzy through the PA while the crowd started packing the venue and indulging themselves with some free PBR and Well Liquor (courtesy of The Trash Bar).
Once everyone settled in had their guts filled with PBR, Alissa Shimansky from Brutal Bitches Productions took over the stage and welcomed Olum on stage. Joining the band on stage was artist Lauryn Yovino, who created a very cool piece of art. The crowd definitely liked the mix of art and music at the same time. We got to say that for being their first show ever, the Olum boys did a fantastic job. Its refreshing to see a new band take their music very seriously (they were the first band to arrive) both on and off stage. Up next was Left In Ruins, a band who brought their furious Metal and good vibe to The Dark Arts Music Festivus. They got the pit spinning out of control, while the amazing Joey Hernandez created a sick piece of art.
The Resurrection Sorrow has been making a lot of noise and its not in vain. Lead by Alex Dementia, the band was a perfect fit in between Left In Ruins and Desolate. They sounded tight and groovy as hell, and having James Groeling by their side inspiring the crowd to headbang like Cliff Burton was a perfect match. Then when the crowd thought they might get to catch their breath, Desolate stepped on stage to celebrate their 10th year anniversary.
After having to cancel their 10th anniversary show due to the closure of Ace Of Clubs a few days before the show, we immediately reached out to them in order to book them for the Dark Arts Music Festivus. Once they confirmed, we knew it was going to be a great night for the Heavy Music scene in New York City. The band kicked off their chaotic set with full force and didn't rest until their final song. During their set the debauchery was in full effect, specially when the clock hit midnight and it was Jose Rivera's (Desolate's frontman) birthday! Our founder Jo Schüftan got on stage and sang him a Metallic Happy Birthday, then the shots started pouring.
The statement that Desolate, The Resurrection Sorrow, Left In Ruins and Olum made reflects the state of the scene in New York City, in which everyone is helping each other out and putting the pedal to the Metal. We could not be any happier! Thanks to all the bands, artists, Brutal Bitches Productions, and the awesome staff at The Trash Bar! HORNS, THUMBS and BEERS up! More cowbell anyone?!

Do you like music that stimulates your senses, and at the same time crushes your ear drums and soothes your soul? And do you like art that infects your vision and ignites your own creativity? Well, Horns Up Rocks and Brutal Bitches Productions have joined forces again and on May 7 they are taking over The Trash Bar in Brooklyn.
Joining us that night will be New York's own Desolate, who will be celebrating their 10th year anniversary. Returning to Brooklyn will be Long Island's Misery, who recently released a killer album called "Evil Is Crowned". Also performing that night will be The Resurrection Sorrow who at the recent Horns Up Rocks showcase, proved that they are ready for bigger and better things. Crushing your senses will be Left In Ruins and Olom, two bands that will get the event jump started with a lethal dose of adrenaline!
Wait, there's more! In addition there will be LIVE painting on stage by accomplished NYC underground Artists: Joey James Hernandez, Lauryn Yovino, and James Groeling. All this artists will also be showcasing their works alongside the dark and evocative Art displays of acclaimed NYC Macabre Artist and Photographer, KING ZOMBIE (Jason Tamvakis), and NYC Graffiti Artist, Joseph Janaro.

When Jose Rivera (singer/cowbell master) and Jeffrey Martinez (guitarist) first met, they immediately felt a magnetic musical force between them. After a few jam sessions, they felt the necessity of starting a fresh sounding Heavy Music band. Combining elements of Thrash Metal, Hardcore and even Latino music, Desolate possess a unique sound that has helped them survive the decline of the music industry in the last 10 years.
Apart from their unique flavor of music, they are a great crushing live band. This key element has helped them to stay relevant within the New York City Heavy Music scene, especially when a lot of real good bands have surfaced in the tri-state area. The main reason why they have persevered for 10 years is because when they started out, the scene was somewhat diluted. Therefore, their mission became to keep the underground music scene alive and well.
10 years ago they debuted at the legendary New York City club CBGB’s, which was the mecca of Hardcore and Punk. Thankfully once CBGB’s closed, The Trash Bar in Brooklyn quickly adopted the CB’s vibe and ever since then they've been keeping the scene going strong. On May 7, 2011, Desolate will make history as they celebrate their 10 year anniversary at The Dark Arts Music Festivus.
The event will take place on Saturday May 7 at The Trash Bar in Brooklyn. Joining Desolate will be Long Islands’ Misery, The Resurrection Sorrow, Olom and Left In Ruins. Additionally, we will have some tremendous artists that will be performing live while the bands are jamming. Their will also be artists displaying some badass artwork throughout the bar. Oh and get this, Alissa Shimansky from Brutal Bitches Productions will be hosting and Horns Up Rocks founder Jo Schüftan will be cranking the best Heavy Music in between bands. These two maniacs combined, are a recipe for an amazing night! So bring your cowbell and come celebrate the legacy of Desolate! \m/
This past St. Patrick's Day we headed over to the Trash Bar in Brooklyn NY, for the Murphy's Law annual St. Patrick's Day takeover. We had experienced this epic event last year, and thought that it couldn't be beaten, we were wrong! This years mayhem was unbelievable. The band sounded amazing (except for when some drunken douche knocked Raven's Saxophone amplifier) and the fans had no problem at all being fed some real Hardcore Punk with a touch of Reggae. They also didn't complain when being fed PBR's, Jager and other party treats.
As it has become a tradition, Jimmy Gestapo was the life of the party, and made sure that everyone had a good time. As he pointed out during their set, it was really cool to see Hardcore heads, Punk kids and Metaleros, mixed together in the pit having a blast!
This night was very special not only because it was the Murphy's Law annual St. Patrick's Day takeover at The Trash Bar, but it was also the bar's 7th year anniversary. For those of you who are not familiar with The Trash Bar, the venue is considered by many the resurrection of the legendary New York City club CBGB's (Closed in 2006). The vibe at the bar never disappoints and the staff there are some of the coolest people ever.

On May 7, 2011 we are joining forces once again with the awesome ladies of Brutal Bitches Productions! Not only do we have 5 amazing live bands that will please your ear drums, but we will also have some amazing live art that will make your jaw drop.
Additionally, the mighty Desolate will be celebrating their 10th year anniversary that same night! - Misery: At present time the Heavy Music scene in the tri-state area is going through a revitalizing process, in which we are starting to see more and more bands stepping up their game and getting away from a set formula. One of those bands is Misery, a band that after 10 years of hard work, is finally starting to get the recognition they deserve. After a successful tour with Devildriver, Misery is ready to take over Brooklyn!
- The Resurrection Sorrow: Favoring raw emotion over contrived calculation, the NYC four-piece craft songs of anthemic proportions. On Saturday March 5th, 2011, Horns Up Rocks and Brutal Bitches Productions presented the "2011 March Metal Beatdown" at The Trash Bar in Brooklyn. The event was hosted by Kara Pain from Sirius XM Liquid Metal and it featured live performances by: Empyreon, Resolution 15, Fenrismaw, Alekhine's Gun, Flames Of Fury, Slam One Down and special guests The Hixon. Additionally, Horns Up Rocks founder Jo Schüftan delivered an epic DJ set in between sets, and the "Queen of Brutal" Alissa Shimansky (Brutal Bitches Productions), provided some sick entertainment which included an evil clown and a sexy hula hoop dancer. Here is what went down from 7 PM until 2 AM!
Empyreon kicked off the night with some furious Metal and despite some technical difficulties, they destroyed! Here is what the fans had to say about their set:

Next up was Resolution 15, who in our opinion are one of the most original bands within the New York Heavy Music scene. Their violin Metal proves that they can shred harder than most bands who actually have guitars. The highlight of their set was having drummer extraordinaire Kenny Grohowski back in town, after he recently laid his father to rest. Not only did Kenny groove the hell out of the Trash Bar but he performed with his other band Hung at Ace of Clubs that same night. Here is what Kenny had to say about this:
"Thank you all who came out to either the Resolution 15 show, the Hung show, or both! (Steve Ventura, Snarky Mamacita, Todd Dupee). It was a magical, albeit, painful night, but i can't think of a better way to come back home. See you guys at the next one!"
Then it was time for the mighty Fenrismaw to deliver their furious demonic Death Metal to a hungry crowd! This was Alissa's pick for the show, and needless to say they were brutal, tight, and very heavy! Check them out:
Nobody was save once Alekhine's Gun pulled the trigger on a crowd of 200 Metal heads who were immediately supplied a lethal dose of dangerous Metal! We could write a whole page on this amazing band (and we have) but we rather show you a picture that truly speaks louder than words:
Once Flames Of Fury took center stage, The Trash Bar was a war zone! The band brought their "A game" and throughout their set they kept everyone on their toes and headbanging. They definitely are a band to keep a close eye on! Here is what the band had to say about their set:

By the time The Hixon destroyed The Trash Bar with their thrashing chaotic Metal, it was evident that New York City today, has some of the most dedicated and brutal fans when it comes to Heavy Music! Here is what The Hixon's singer Marc Hixon had to say about this:
"New York City is shitting on the Philly and South Jersey Heavy Music scenes and its not even 9:30 yet."
Headlining the "2011 March Metal Beatdown" was Slam One Down! This guys bring the Pantera style of partying and jamming wherever they go. We have no idea how they manage to sound so tight on stage after funneling beers and being the life of the party. We want to thank them for all their help and for putting the pedal to the Metal!

"Saturday’s show reminded me of the sense of community that should always exist amongst bands and fans alike. And though I’m not above playing large venues, the, dare I say it, intimacy of this show was like a chamber music concert to me. A large enough crowd to electrify the room, but small enough that it didn’t feel sterile and processed. There were opportunities for direct interaction from the stage to the pit. In many ways, this is the ideal. Another thing that struck me was the diversity of Metal represented. It’s kind of a thing in the Metal world for people to niche their tastes, and so shows tend towards the monochromatic. Not so on Saturday, and I really enjoyed that. We have some of the best underground Heavy Metal bands in New York, we also have Kara Pain from Liquid Metal hosting, and Horns Up Rocks founder Jo Schüftan will be blasting some Heaviness in between sets. We just wrapped up an amazing holiday bashing weekend, which once again proved the importance of Horns Up Rocks. From the No Mercy Metal bash at Public Assembly in Brooklyn, to the Bronx takeover with Brutal Bitches Productions at Gleason’s Bar, to Death-Mas at The Trash Bar in Brooklyn, to getting Crowbent with Crowbar at Santos Party House in Manhattan… all we can say is holy f%#k Heavy Music is alive and strong here in New York goddamn City!
Thursday's bash at Public Assembly was organized by Tim Martinez (AKA DJ Tim 37), and the Gotham Rocks team. The party got kicked off by Desolate, who brought their usual face melting kick in the ass cowbell Metal. Then we all got burned by Eyes Like Cyanide, a band who recently switched singers without losing a notch of their craft.
All of a sudden we were all forced to find out what Lies Beneath, and what lies beneath is some head crushing furious Metal! Next up, was a band that always ignites the party Metal with the use of Heavy artillery and beer funnels: Slam One Down. Finishing the night was Fin’Amor, who laid down every part of their set with extreme precision. All in all, another night of bringing people together for some head-banging exercises.
On Friday we were invited by Alissa Shimansky of Brutal Bitches Productions, to experience some punishing brutality at Gleason’s bar. After cranking some tunes and getting the house warmed up, our founder Jo Schuftan dedicated the night to Dimebag Darrell Abbott (Pantera/Damageplan) and John Lennon (The Beatles), who were shot on the same date (December 8). Soon after, he introduced Resolution 15: a band that always proofs that violins are Metal as hell! Following Resolution 15 was Everything’s Ruined, who displayed some hard hitting skills that made the bar shake like an earthquake. Then Perish the Thought laid down the law, with some hard hitting shredding sounds. Finishing the night of brutality was Karnage Krew, who brought various flavors of Heavy Music, including Thrash Metal, Hardcore, and good ol' Punk rock. The event was followed by a chaotic after party, and a brutal hangover.
"Brutal Bitches Productions has come a long way since forming in January. Last week's amazing show has proven that heavy music still thrives in the Bronx. The amazing line up of bands absolutely K-I-L-L-E-D I-T. There is so much underground talent out here, and we are glad to be putting our own dent in the history of the Metal scene. Saturday night we took over The Trash Bar, and the vibe couldn't have been better. From the moment our founder Jo Schuftan started the night with some Lamb Of God, the venue started getting packed. The first band of the night was Death Immortal, who immediately got the crowd going furious thanks to their stage presence and musical power. Then Thinning the Herd did what they do best: make bodies groove with their heavy sludge! Then Delaware's The World Lost rocked the fuck out and managed to leave the crowd hungry for King Hell. The Funk Metal masters always deliver the horns and the leather. Saturday was no exception. They sounded crisp, and made sure nobody stood still. After the intensity of King Hell, the crowd needed some energy. Thankfully, Ikillya made sure to inject every person in the crowd with a lethal dose of adrenalized Death Metal. Ending the night was Oddman In, who delivered a fun and Heavy performance. Once we wrapped things up, we headed to Duff’s Brooklyn and celebrated the life of Dimebag Darrell Abbott. What a night!
