Metal God Rob Halford Turns 60!

Metal God Robert John Arthur "Rob" Halford from British Heavy Metal legends Judas Priest, is celebrating his 60th birthday today! Halford made the world more Metal when his mother gave birth to him on August 25, 1951 in Sutton Coldfield, England, but was raised in Walsall (which was then a part of Staffordshire).

Halford sang in numerous bands before joining Judas Priest in the early 70s, and single-handily changing Heavy Metal forever. Some of the bands he sang with before joining Judas Priest, were Athens Wood, Lord Lucifer, Abraxas, Thark and Hiroshima.

Thanks to his hard work with Judas Priest, the Grammy Award-winning band became a cult within the Heavy Metal. As a result, Halford was nicknamed the "Metal God" after the Judas Priest song of the same name from 1980's British Steel.

The Metal God is is considered one of the most consistently powerful singers in Rock, and he possesses a wide vocal range, and is famous for his high-pitched, operatic, soaring screams. In addition to his work with Judas Priest, he has been involved with several side projects, including Fight, 2wo and Halford. He is also credited as the first openly gay mainstream Heavy Metal star, having come out in 1998.

HEAVY Birthday Rob and we wish you many more Metallic years!
