Joey Jordison Talks About His NEW Project With Members Of NINE INCH NAILS, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD & DARKEST HOUR!

As previously reported, the multi-talented Joey Jordison from SLIPKNOT/MURDERDOLLS (ex-Rob Zombie) has made it very clear that he is not willing to wait around until Corey Taylor is ready to work on the NEW SLIPKNOT album. He has actually been real busy working on his as of yet untitled NEW musical project.

Jordison recently chatted with Metal Hammer about his project with
Jed Simon (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, TENET, ZIMMER'S HOLE) and Kris Norris (DARKEST HOUR) on guitar. Here is what he had to say about his next musical venture:

“I’d been working on new Slipknot material since the end of the 'All Hope Is Gone' tour cycle but I ended up with so much stuff I had to take a step back and stop working on it,” he explains. “The time wasn’t right. But I came up with a bunch of material that was really killer and heavy and started taking some of it in a different direction. I started focusing on a lot of the post-Punk and industrial stuff that I’ve always loved and started putting super heavy and brutal guitars over the top of it. That’s how it started. It’s taken me a couple of years to get to this point, but I can honestly say this is the most satisfied I’ve ever been in the studio. I can’t wait for everyone to hear this shit.

“I’ve done the bulk of the work in the studio but now I’ve got Jed [Simon, Strapping Young Lad] and Kris [Norris, Darkest Hour] to play lead guitar on everything,” he adds. “Chris [Vrenna, Nine Inch Nails] is doing the keyboards and synths and all that stuff and I have an unknown guy on vocals. His name’s Henry and he’s super talented and a great vocalist. I didn’t want someone from a known band singing in this band, because then it just becomes some supergroup thing and that’s not what this is.”

Don't forget that SLIPKNOT will be headlining the Download Festival on Friday 14 June 2013, marking the band’s second headline appearance following an explosive set in 2009. They join fellow headliners Iron Maiden on Saturday 15 June and Rammstein on Sunday 16 June.

Joey Jordison is not holding his breath for a NEW SLIPKNOT album & starts NEW project

The multi-talented Joey Jordison from SLIPKNOT/MURDERDOLLS (ex-Rob Zombie) has made it very clear that he is not willing to wait around until Corey Taylor is ready to work on the NEW SLIPKNOT album. Jordison has posted several photos from the studio where he is currently working on a "new project."

More details about the band, which apparently features Jed Simon (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, TENET, ZIMMER'S HOLE) and Kris Norris (DARKEST HOUR) on guitar, will be made available "soon," according to Jordison.

While we totally understand that it is not easy for SLIPKNOT to move on after losing their bassist Paul Gray in 2010, Taylor seems to have plenty of time to write music and to tour with STONE SOUR. So lets hope that Taylor commits to SLIPKNOT after STONE SOUR completes their current album cycle in 2015.
Here is Taylor's latest update:
"We're doing five shows this year, all overseas. But it's still not time yet. There's a lot of people in the band getting healthy and trying to stay healthy and I think by getting together and doing this handful of shows, that will encourage them, and that's important.

"It takes a long time to pull yourself out of where we were. We were all in really bad shape and really dark places and right now we just kind of realized, we don't want to be there anymore. You can visit it. You can tap into it. But you don't want to exist in it. That's not life. That's just sustaining pain. For me, I let that go a long time ago and now the rest of the guys in the band are seeing that as well.

"So, we're all just trying to be there for each other and I think we'll start working on new music by probably next year… just kind of throwing demos together, maybe start working on a new album at the end of next year or maybe 2015."

Corey Taylor Talks About Seeing SLIPKNOT Perform As A Fan, Before He Joined The Band

Corey Taylor is not the original vocalist of SLIPKNOT, his original band is actually STONE SOUR. Speaking of STONE SOUR, the second part of
'House Of Gold & Bones' will be released this coming Tuesday, April 9 via Roadrunner Records.

Corey was recently interviewed by Noisecreep about STONE SOUR's NEW record, and of course SLIPKNOT came up during the interview. Here is what he had to say about his first time seeing SLIPKNOT perform as a fan:

"I went to see a Slipknot show in Iowa. This was two years before I joined the band. Stone Sour was playing the next night and so we went to see Slipknot and I never really had that kind of feeling before; of seeing a band with that kind of energy. They just marched up through the crowd and then I said to myself, that's the band that I want to sing in. So think about it. How many people get to go see a band that's like their favorite band in the world, and then soon after that they find themselves being the lead singer? It's the fucking coolest thing in the world and I'm glad you asked about that because it's good for me to remember what it was like back in the day when I first saw Slipknot. I mean it's weird, I'm still a fan of the band from when I saw them back then, and just look at what happened."

SLIPKNOT's Corey Taylor Updates Fans On The Bands Next Record!

For their millions of fans around the world, Slipknot are as much a culture and a way of life as they are a band. To completely engage with all of the perseverance, ingenuity, artistic integrity and holistic vision of Slipknot's creative output in all of its forms, is to fully embrace every facet, and to find community in counterculture and true strength in survival.

Needless to say, the "maggots" are impatiently waiting for a NEW SLIPKNOT album. And while most of the band is ready to get some songs recorded and released. The bands vocalist Corey Taylor is not ready yet.

SLIPKNOT will be headlining the Download Festival on Friday 14 June 2013, marking the band’s second headline appearance following an explosive set in 2009. They join fellow headliners Iron Maiden on Saturday 15 June and Rammstein on Sunday 16 June.

When Heavy Music Goes Acoustic & How It Impacts A Musicians Nerves

Back in the 90s, the "MTV Unplugged" series became very popular since it showcased artists in a very intimate setting. Part of the magic within the series was that the majority of artists would step out of their "comfort zone", and many would switch their electric guitars into acoustic guitars. This obviously added extra stress to the artists, since they had to rehearse and many times learn how to play a certain "amplified" musical part without any electrical effects or "tricks".

One thing that all musicians who are not used to performing in an intimate setting have in common, is that they get nervous as hell. Of course they are professionals and usually shine within this unusual environment for them, without letting anyone know how nervous they are. And even though they are used to performing in front of massive amounts of people, they do feel the added pressure.

Take for example MACHINE HEAD's Robb Flynn, who recently performed and acoustic set at a Tony La Russa benefit show (video below). Here is what he had to say about how nerve wrecking his recent acoustic experience was:

"And then the time came to do my set for a 40-to-70 year-old audience that I was certain had no fuckin’ clue who the hell I or Machine Head was. I cracked a couple jokes about it and definitely broke the ice; I was nervous, surprisingly so, irrationally so. Every time I do these acoustic things I'm nervous, I kept telling myself "dude, you headline festivals in front of 100,000 people, and don't even blink an eye, why are you nervous?" I guess the idea of sitting, just me and an acoustic, and just being in the moment, connecting to the lyrics, connecting to the emotion and the place where I wrote it, and the idea that I couldn't rely on my old bag of tricks is... well, scary. I both like and hate that feeling. I feel like I need to do more of it just to get past this weird... I dunno, fear? "

Another Heavy Music artist who recently performed acoustically in New York City and in Gothenburg, Sweden, is TRIVIUM's Matt Heafy (video below). Prior to his first acoustic solo performance at the Moscot Gallery in New York City, Heafy made it clear that he was out of his "comfort zone".

"I’m never nervous with Trivium shows but I’m always nervous with things I don’t really do – like dancing in public, if I had to do it I would be terrified. Having never done a solo acoustic show of songs that no one would expect me to do I don’t know what vibe I’m going to get, I’ll figure it out. I was asking Corey Taylor, who was doing those acoustic shows – I saw him do one in front of 8,000 people in Austria and people were freaking out, he played the Spongebob Square Pants Theme, Alice in Chains and all this stuff. So I asked him how he gets into it and he gave me a couple of tips."

Since Heafy brought up Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT/STONE SOUR)...

In 2011, we had the chance to catch "An Evening With Corey Taylor". The event was Taylor's super smart way of promoting his debut book "Seven Deadly Sins: Settling the Argument Between Born Bad and Damaged Good". Seeing Taylor in such an intimate setting without of his jumpsuit and mask, was very powerful (video below). Almost as powerful as seeing his as #8 in SLIPKNOT.

So for those who say that acoustic sets are not Metal: if you want to be close minded about it and not open your mind to NEW/COOL ways for our music to be presented, that is your personal choice. Just don't forget that the key ingredient of Metal is rebellion, which it can be translated into trying things that most are too scared to try.

Mr. Flynn, Mr. Heafy and Mr. Taylor, are all vocalists in some of the most important Heavy Music bands today. If they weren't "Metal" enough, they would have never dared stepping out of their "comfort zone" and rebelling all for the love of music.

Lets take a look at the differences between an electric guitar and an acoustic guitar:
