Heavy Music history was written on Thursday, May 2 at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles, CA. Not only did the Revolver Golden Gods Awards welcome the elite of the music we all love, but the energy inside the sold out venue was incomparable. Here is a scoop of who won what, and who performed with whom. Prior to the event we took over the Black Carpet and got harassed by SLIPKNOT's Shawn "Clown" Crahan (#3) and Chris Fehn (#6)! During their hostile takeover of the Horns Up Rocks microphone, the two maniacs announced the bands plans for 2014 and discussed the Golden Gods Awards. They also paid tribute to Jeff Hanneman and Chi Cheng (both men recently passed away). The entire event was dedicated to SLAYER's Jeff Hanneman, who passed away recently from liver failure. According to www.blabbermouth.net, the DEFTONES plan on releasing 'Eros' in the near future. 'Eros' is the very last record featuring their original bassist Chi Cheng, who passed away recently (details HERE). The band was actually finalizing the record, when Chi suffered life threatening injuries following a November 2008 car crash that eventually costed him his life. Chino Moreno had just left the studio after recording his vocal tracks for 'Eros' and was about half-way done with all songs on the album when the accident occurred. Following the accident, the band decided to not release the album because they wanted to release a better record. They then recruited Sergio Vega (ex-QUICKSAND) to play bass, with whom they have released two albums: 2010's 'Diamond Eyes' and 2012's 'Koi No Yokan'. Chi's last record with the band is 2006's 'Saturday Night Wrist'. Here in an interview that Artisan News conducted with Chino at the "Black Carpet", during the fifth edition of the Revolver Golden Gods Awards. Chino talks in detail about 'Eros'.
The DEFTONES recently unleashed a brand NEW video for their song "Swerve City", a song taken from their latest album 'Koi No Yokan' (legal download available HERE). You can watch the video for "Swerve City" HERE!

As previously reported, former DEFTONES bassist Chi Cheng died on Saturday, April 13, at a Sacramento, CA hospital. As we all know, Chi was in a tragic car accident on November 4, 2008. As a result, he suffered some very serious brain injuries. Ever since the accident Chi was in a state of semi-consciousness after suffering severe TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury).
Gil Sharone from the STOLEN BABIES is one of the top drummer in Heavy Music today. If you have had the chance to see him perform with his band STOLEN BABIES or with THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, or with PUSCIFER, or even with SUM 44, you know that Gil plays with a lot of heart. His precise technique is widely known and through the clinics that he oftens organizes, he has been able to pass the torch to young upcoming drummers. STOLEN BABIES are currently on tour with SEVENDUST, COAL CHAMBER and LACUNA COIL, in what is by far one of the best tour packages of 2013. Prior to his bands performance at the Best Buy Theater in New York City on April 17, Gil sat down with us to talk about this great tour and how STOLEN BABIES are catching a break following their hiatus. We also chatted with him about his musical career, jamming with his brother Rani, and about the recent passing of Chi Cheng from the DEFTONES (RIP). Without further due, here is our interview with Gil Sharone! STOLEN BABIES with COAL CHAMBER, Sevendust and Lacuna Coil (remaining tour dates):

His DEFTONES bandmate and friend Stephen Carpenter has made a statement in behalf of the band: "There are so many things I can say, and yet at this moment, none of it matters or compares to the loss everyone feels. There will be a hole in our lives where Chi once was. But that will be filled everyday with all of our love and memories we all have in our heart. He will always be here because of love. It's time we all give our love and best, and do our best to love. Especially ourselves, Chi would want that for everyone. All our healing will begin with love. I love you, Chi."

TUESDAY, JUNE 17, 2008: Cheng Checks In
"Hello Campers,
I've been on a personal hiatus and I apologize fer my absence. We've been locked into the studio as you know and are finishing the drum tracks on a song tentatively called "Trempest." Its heavy as fuck with a shitload of groove 'n even though its been driving me crazy as it runs through my insomniatic brain, I am really excited! I always say this shit but I truly believe this album to be well worth the wait and appreciate all your support and kind loyalty. The idea of finishing the album and getting out to play in front of y'all is a nice light at the end of my tunnel. We intend to tour extensively so don't fret. On a person note, I've been holding up 'n out. Went to a tattoo convention to support my boys at hard luck and many many other friends. If your wondering "does he always have more tattoo's than last time I saw him?" - yes, I do. I want to thank anyone who has gotten a tone tat and say it is amazingly flattering. I have finished reading Matt Ruffs "Bad Monkey" and am reading Thomas Pynchons "V-A" book on the history of civilization, and some more Buddhist literature. Took my son to see Iron Man and really enjoyed it. Hit an "X" dead center at 50 yards with my sig pistol. Clean my house, work on music and a little writing and lovin' on Colleen, Gabe and the dogs. Hope to see you all very soon!
My deepest respect as always
- Chi
P.S. I will now throw the band under the bus and let you know that we are all online playing full tilt poker for fake money. I go by "chetcheng," Chino goes by "chinote," Stef goes by "dodoubleg," and I think and frank is "fmdee." Abe doesn't play games, sorry. If you feel so inclined come 'n see if you can take our money."
We have some very sad news to report. Former DEFTONES bassist Chi Cheng died last night at 3 AM in a Sacramento, CA hospital. His mother made the official announcement onOneloveforchi.com.
"Our dearest Family,
This is the hardest thing to write to you. Your love and heart and devotion to Chi was unconditional and amazing. I know that you will always remember him as a giant of a man on stage with a heart for every one of you. He was taken to the emergency [sic] room and at 3 AM today his heart just suddenly stopped. He left this world with me singing songs he liked in his ear.
He fought the good fight. You stood by him sending love daily. He knew that he was very loved and never alone. I will write more later. I will be going through the oneloveforchi (website) and any other information may not be reliable. If you have any stories or messages to share please send them to the onelove site. Please hold Mae and Ming and the siblings and especially Chi’s son, Gabriel in your prayers. It is so hard to let go.
With great love and “Much Respect!" Mom J (and Chi)

Asked
how the NEW DEFTONES disc sounds, Moreno told Billboard.com, "It's
not a super fast or slow record. It's very dynamic. Some of my
favorite things about DEFTONES are the dynamics. Yes, we're a heavy
band, but we're not just in-your-face aggro the whole time, punching
you in the face. There's a lot of aggression in some of the music,
but there's also this very soothing element where there's a lot of
soundscapes rather than attack, attack, attack the whole time. I
understand that's a big part of our sound, but I really feel like we
reached a peak on our dynamics on this record with those two qualities —
the beauty of something and just straight, ruthless aggression."
As previously announced, the DEFTONES have a NEW

Lead singer Chino Moreno told Billboard.com
why the band got back to work faster than usual. "It was important
that we wanted to not drag it out," he said. "We have a well-documented
history of taking forever to make records. But with our last record,
we did it in a really short, good amount of time, probably four or
five months from the time we started writing until we finished it. For
us, that was record time, so this time the idea was, 'Let's go in and
start a record on this date and let's try to be finished by
summertime and keep this work ethic we kind of stumbled upon on the
last one,' and we did."
'Diamond Eyes' sold 62,000
copies in the US in its first week and debuted at the Number 6
position on The Billboard 200 chart. 'Diamond Eyes' was the deftones
first album, since their bassist Chi Cheng had a horrific car accident
on November 4, 2008. The accident left him in a comatose state.
Sergio Vega recorded 'Diamond Eyes', toured with the band, and is back
in the studio to record the bands seventh studio album.

Take
Out the stories
They’ve put into your mind and brace
For the glory
As you stare into the sky.. The sky beneath
I know you can’t be tired..
Lay there
Stare at the ceiling
And switch back to your time just go ahead now try and taste it I know it should be ripe...thrust...ahead.
Turning in circles
Been caught in a stasis
The ancient arrival
Cut to the end
I’d like to be taken
Apart from the inside
Then spit through the cycle right to the end
I wonder just how you shaped it To get back to your prize...thrust..ahead
Turning in circles
Been caught in a stasis
The ancient arrival
Cut to the end
I’d like to be taken
Apart from the inside
Then spit through the cycle right to the end
Wake for the glory
I know you can’t be tired

that was record time, so this time the idea was, 'Let's go in and start
a record on this date and let's try to be finished by summertime and
keep this work ethic we kind of stumbled upon on the last one,' and we
did."
'Diamond Eyes' sold 62,000 copies in the US in
its first week and debuted at the Number 6 position on The Billboard
200 chart. 'Diamond Eyes' was the deftones first album, since their
bassist Chi Cheng had a horrific car accident on November 4, 2008. The
accident left him in a comatose state. Sergio Vega recorded 'Diamond
Eyes', toured with the band, and is back in the studio to record the
bands seventh studio album.
Asked
how the NEW DEFTONES disc sounds, Moreno told Billboard.com, "It's not
a super fast or slow record. It's very dynamic. Some of my favorite
things about DEFTONES are the dynamics. Yes, we're a heavy band, but
we're not just in-your-face aggro the whole time, punching you in the
face.

As previously reported, on Friday, July 27, the DEFTONES performed at a private event at Warner Bros. Records in Burbank, California. During this special performance, they debuted two NEW songs called "Rosemary" and "Roller Derby". The as of yet entitled NEW DEFTONES album is scheduled to be released on October 9, 2012. The follow up to the critically acclaimed 'Diamond Eyes', released on May 4, 2010, is a lethal album for the DEFTONES and they know this. This is why once again they have lined up producer Nick Raskulinecz, who also produced 'Diamond Eyes'.
Lead singer Chino Moreno told Billboard.com why the band got back to work faster than usual. "It was important that we wanted to not drag it out," he said. "We have a well-documented history of taking forever to make records. But with our last record, we did it in a really short, good amount of time, probably four or five months from the time we started writing until we finished it. For us, that was record time, so this time the idea was, 'Let's go in and start a record on this date and let's try to be finished by summertime and keep this work ethic we kind of stumbled upon on the last one,' and we did."
